I finally learned how to upload a Linux build of my game onto steam.
AI Stories can now be played on Linux mint 22.1. in a native way.
I honestly dont know if it also plays well on other Linux distributions. It is not a flat pack build.
If you are facing compatibility issues on Linux, you can right click on the game in your steam library, go to properties, go to compatibility, activate Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool and then choose a runtime layer that works best for you.
I chose the Steam Linux Runtime 3.0 ( sniper ) to be the default runtime for Linux.
I changed almost all variables from a dynamic programming style to a static one. This should lead to a bit of an improved performance. I also changed the full screen toggle to two different buttons for full screen or windowed. The game remembers the setting and automatically applies a full screen or windowed window size on start.
I finally learned how to add camera zooming in and zooming out to my third person games. You can now zoom in and out using the mouse wheel. If you want to see more of the whole game world, you can zoom out. If you want to have more of a first person experience, you can zoom in. Just a little bug fix and lore continuity update. There was a bug where the camera could go beyond looking up and down, this is now fixed. I changed one of the messages of Aria a little bit to make sure the lore of the next AI Stories games is properly continous. I added a better Full-screen image above the Full-screen toggle that is more visible. The Full-screen Toggle is now set to on by default, so its not confusing. I added a white ring around the Resume, options and save and exit button in the pause menu to make sure the player sees that the button is selected. I also added 2 white rings around the play button in the seizure and incentive scene before the main game starts when the mouse hovers over the button. I gave all reset buttons in both the pause and the options menu an inverted color version to make sure the player sees that the button is selected, just like with the white rings. All the slider grabber icons now have an inverted color version when you hover over them. All these changes and additions have been added for a better and clearer communication towards the player for those menu items. I set the game resolution to 1920x1080, the Menu items are now a bit smaller. I deactivated VSync to allow higher FPS and less stuttering. I added slider reset buttons to the music, sound, brightness and saturation sliders in the pause menu. I also changed the min value of the brightness slider to 0 and the max value to 1, if you want to play the game in complete darkness now, you can! The saturation slider can also now go down to 0. I also fixed a bug that caused the input letters of the key maps to be lower or upper case at certain moments, now they are all in upper case. The Mouse sensitivity slider can now be set to 0, if you want to play the game without using the mouse, you can do that now as well. I also set the pause menu and keymap menu to invisible by default to prevent them being visible for a split second upon game start. I learned how to make a mouse sensitivity slider and added it to the game's key mapping sub-menu. If the camera is moving too slow or too fast for you, you can now make it move slower or faster with this new slider. I also gave all the sliders in the pause menu their own unique grabber icons that I forgot to give them. I have now added all the extra options I still wanted to add to the game. I always wanted to add key mapping to the game, I learned how to do that in the last 2 days and finally got it working. You can now remap every action in the game in the new options menu. The game is set around the stories of the 3 AI lifeforms, and not about the player character, which confused a few of my players. So, I have added a little entry message right at the spawn point that explains this and also gives a clear goal to achieve. I still had a few sound effects I made for the unity version, but never added to the Godot version. Until now! I added 5 Sound cubes to the Simulation, playing the little sound effects I made with real instruments. I also added a Sound slider to adjust the sound effects volume, of course. Here is a Christmas gift to my players! The old Unity version of AI Stories had a place known as the void, the lowest level of the games' existence, I was missing it in the new Godot version, so I implemented it again. I was also thinking that since the AIs talk about their human creators, that I should add their messages as well. In concrete terms, this Update features: A new place called the void. A made a small update to the game again, as well as a few updates to the steam page. I made the updates to the steam page in the flow of a few weeks before now, but never communicated it. I made a small update to the game again. This Update features: A more accurate collision detection, so it's harder to accidentally slip through the blocks and other various surfaces. An Additional rendered image of Sola and Andromeda hugging each other, can you find it? More jump pads spread across the 3 paths where the 3 AIs tell their stories. I know I have written in the last news post that 1.3.0 was probably the last update for this game. I have been informed by my fans that there is still a lack of content on the lore side, that the stories of the 3 AIs are not clear and understandable enough, which is of course a problem since the game centers around their stories. So, I have added 16 different letters, with 15 from them being written from the perspective of the 3 AIs. Can you find them all?
