Greetings Citizens!
It\'s been a while since the last update, so it\'s time to share some details on how development has been going for the past few months. While there has been some progress, it has admittedly been much slower than I originally anticipated and so I\'ve decided to delay the game. This is just to make sure I have plenty of time to get things right, and ensure that nothing is rushed. The release date has been pushed back to Q2 2026, which is quite a big jump but should give me the time I need to finish it. Of course, this new date is not at all concrete either, but with any luck this will be the only time I need to delay the game.
So what has been going on since Next Fest? Well, the main thing I have been working on are new enemies and weapons. The difficulty I have found though, is in trying to keep these additions fun and unique, and not just rehashing existing content. That is just the nature of this type of game though - it relies on a good variety of enemies, and an even better variety of ways to kill said enemies.
There will be more updates on the game in the new year, as well as some showcasing of the new features. But until then, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Greetings Citizens!
Prepare to crush the rebels wherever they may be hiding! With the latest update providing full Steam Deck support, your orders to Crush The Rebellion! can now be faithfully executed on the go!
This had been planned for some time, but now that I\'ve had the chance to fully test the game on Steam Deck, I found that there wasn\'t much left to do to get it working properly. This update includes correct icons for the Steam Deck buttons, and some changes to the default options to improve the experience out-of-the-box.
Full release notes for demo v0.10.1:
Added icons for the Steam Deck controller buttons
[/*]Added new default options for Steam Deck - anti-aliasing is set to MSAA x2 and VSync is set to \"Adaptive\"
[/*]Fixed the icons for non-Xbox controllers, the game should now be showing Xbox icons for all devices that don\'t yet have official support
[/*]Set the default control scheme to the more natural-feeling \"relative to camera\" when a controller is plugged in. This is only altered if the setting has not been changed manually
[/*]Fixed a bug where holding down a button in the intro would cause it to skip through to the end
[/*]Updated the engine to Godot 4.5, bringing various bugfixes and improvements
[/*]
There is still more to do to improve the experience on Steam Deck (and smaller screens in general) though. A text scaling option will make it easier to read some of the smaller text, and the performance could do with further improvements. These changes will come in future updates.
Greetings Citizens!
The rebellion is gathering steam, and the Empire needs every available citizen to join the Imperial Fleet! Together we can destroy the rebel scum and Crush The Rebellion!
That\'s right, the demo is here and is ready for everyone to give it a go. There may still be bugs to fix and balance changes to make, but content-wise the demo is pretty much complete. Please note that the beta is now closed and won\'t be playable again until the next beta period in a few months time, before the full release. Special thanks to everyone who gave it a try!
As mentioned in the patch notes for the last beta update , there are a few restrictions to be aware of in the demo:
The demo is limited to the first 10 waves (i.e. the first boss fight). The game will end after defeating the boss, however it can be replayed any number of times
[/*]The demo does not allow the weapon loadout to be changed, however upgrades to the ship and the default loadout can still be applied as normal
[/*]
Additionally, the following changes have been made since the last beta update:
The minelaying enemies now try to drop mines in front of the player ship (instead of just behind them)
[/*]The enemy AI has been adjusted to be slightly better at avoiding the player ship
[/*]Fixed occasional flicker of enemy health bars when new enemies are spawned in
[/*]
Please leave any feedback you have here and report any bugs you may find here . The Empire expresses its sincere gratitude to all those who volunteer for the Imperial Fleet!
Next steps
The next job now is to, well, finish the game. The following new features are planned for the full release:
More enemy types - tougher and more deadly for the later waves (after the first boss)!
[/*]More weapon types - more ways to blow stuff up!
[/*]More pickup bonuses - I am well aware that the current options are fairly limited.
[/*]Superweapons - the additional firepower will be more than necessary to survive as time goes on and the waves get tougher. These weapons will be able wipe out huge numbers of enemies at once, but may come at great cost!
[/*]Even more performance improvements - to ensure that the game continues to run smoothly after the first boss fight!
[/*]Steam Achievements
[/*]Steam Deck support (+ improved support for other controller types such as DualShock)
[/*]And more!
[/*]
There will also be development updates to cover the major new features, as and when they are added. Until then though, thanks for reading!
And get to work, Pilots!
Greetings Citizens!
The beta for Crush The Rebellion! has been updated again. This update is a bit smaller than last week\'s, but a full demo release is very close now so this will be the last beta update for the next several months. I hope to release the demo next week, after which all updates will be for the demo and the beta will be closed for some time.
While much of the demo is the same as the current beta, there will be a few extra restrictions to be aware of:
The demo is limited to the first 10 waves (i.e. the first boss fight). The game will end after defeating the boss, however it can be replayed any number of times
[/*]The demo does not allow the weapon loadout to be changed, however upgrades to the ship and the default loadout can still be applied as normal
[/*]
Full release notes for v0.9.9:
Improved the destruction effects for the boss. It will now explode into a number of fragments like the ships do
[/*]Improved the pickups dropped by the boss. It is now much more likely to get respawn points (lives) from defeating the boss and it will always drop 5 pickups
[/*]Added a new sound effect when the logo in the intro animates
[/*]Some minor fixes for the performance improvements added in v0.9.8
[/*]
Greetings Citizens!
The beta for Crush The Rebellion! has received its first update. This update comes with a number of performance improvements and bug fixes, as well as the promised \"taunts\" in the game over screen.
Full release notes for v0.9.8:
Added taunts to the game over screen
[/*]Improved the performance when lots of lasers and missiles are being fired. There is still some room for improvement here
[/*]Improved the performance of background elements including stars and the fragments from destroyed ships. The game should handle a lot more debris now
[/*]Fixed some edge cases where the enemy counter for a wave would get out of sync with the actual number of enemies that need to be killed in order to complete the wave
[/*]
Greetings Citizens!
The Imperial Fleet requests your service! The beta is now ready and it is finally time to Crush The Rebellion!
Please leave any feedback you have here and report any bugs you may find here . The Empire expresses its sincere gratitude to all those who participate!
(This is an open beta so it is freely available to anyone who is interested!)
The Roadmap
The next step for the game is to release a full demo (hopefully in a month\'s time), but it is not quite ready yet. The main things that I will be focussing on up until then are:
Performance - I have a lot of ideas for how to optimise the game and it will definitely need this boost, as the full game will need to handle a lot more enemies at once!
[/*]Flavour - there are a lot of hints to the \"lore\" and story of the game, however there is more I still want to add - for example, the next big feature will be the \"game over taunts\". There will be more details once the features have been implemented.
[/*]AI - the current enemy ship AI is quite basic and needs some improvement. Nothing too fancy, but the rebels should look a little smarter than they currently do!
[/*]Balance - the game hasn\'t really been balanced at all yet. Things like enemy or pickup spawn rates and upgrade costs may need adjusting to ensure that the game remains fun to play.
[/*]
Beyond the demo I have even more features planned:
More enemy types - tougher and more deadly for the later waves (after the first boss)!
[/*]More weapon types - more ways to blow stuff up!
[/*]More pickup bonuses - I am well aware that the current options are fairly limited.
[/*]Superweapons - the additional firepower will be more than necessary to survive as time goes on and the waves get tougher. These weapons will be able wipe out huge numbers of enemies at once, but may come at great cost!
[/*]Steam Achievements
[/*]And more!
[/*]
Thanks for reading, and enjoy!
