The Institute has been proclaimed an enemy of the state. Its research confiscated, institutions sacked, and agents assassinated. But it is also resourceful, given time it has recovered from worse.
A pity the apocalypse won’t be waiting.
You are the Director’s personal bodyguard. A deadly sorcerer with a brain so melted by cosmic forces that only a cursed helmet can keep it from leaking out. You haven’t done field work in the better part of a century, but a senior researcher in the sea town of Brein has convinced the Institute to send whoever they can.
Slaughter hordes of enemies in fast paced twin-stick shooter combat! Pull spells from your deck and exploit enemy weakness to generate enough energy to keep up the pace!
Cancel enemy attacks by interrupting them with their own elements, or overload your foes with arcane energies before detonating. Discard unwanted spells to heal, or equip new ones to pull in nearby powerups. Discard All Hope is easy to pick up and play, but offers plenty of mechanics to master.
Collect hundreds of different spells across 5 elemental types. Blast enemies at range with projectiles, cut through monsters with melee, summon eldritch familiars or protect yourself with defensive wards. Upgrade your favorites and find rare variants with random modifiers and even greater power.
Your spells double as stats too! Health, dash cooldown, magic regeneration, "ammo" reserves, and more can be improved just by holding them in your active deck… but be careful. The more magic of a given element you equip, the more susceptible you become to it. Insight into the unknown is a double-edged sword after all.

Scour every inch of the besieged sea town, Brein. Explore abandoned farms, once-bustling streets, dark woods, subterranean crypts, and much more. Discover the dark secrets hiding in the depths of this once unassuming place.
And when you are finished, delve into an endless labyrinth of ever-changing rooms in the ancient ruins lying deep under the earth!
The most recent update will unfortunately (but temporarily) be disabling the Steam overlay for Windows users. This is due to a bug caused by Microsoft\'s Windows Web Viewer (used for exporting Discard All Hope) that causes some gamepads (including Xbox gamepads) to not work.
The good news is this should be a temporary workaround. Once Windows has fixed the exporter issue, the Steam overlay will be reintroduced.
Unfortunately due to a Windows Webview 2 update, some gamepads (such as the Xbox Series X) are not recognized by the game engine. Discard All Hope is built with Construct 3, and while the Construct team is aware of the problem and submitted the issue to Windows, no fixes have been made as of yet.
I am looking into a possible fix that has the unfortunate side effect of disabling the Steam overlay. In the meantime, you can try other gamepads or use the mouse+keyboard controls.
Minor update expanding on the previous card (or loot) level update. Until now shield and summon cards did not improve with either the card level or upgrade level. Now they do. For shields, their durability (health) scales up, and for creature summons both their attack and health increase with level and upgrade.
Shields have also gotten a couple new modifiers, and the modifier that increased damage of attacks reflected by the shield back at enemies should now properly work for all shields that drop with it.
Hello all!
This is likely to be the last major update to the Demo until release. To those of you that have recorded gameplay for me to review, thank you, these changes would not have been possible without your feedback!

Major Updates:
[olist]Spell cards have a loot level, this can be seen in the bottom left corner of the card as a gold value. Damage incrementally improves with spell level. The primary goal of this is to push players to try new spells as they find them.
[olist]NOTE: Summon spells and Shield spells are currently not improved by loot level. This will change in the final release.
[/*][/olist][/*]Spell card modifiers are now better organized. You can no longer get 4 of the same modifier, or 4 modifiers that penalize attack damage. Modifiers are now organized into pools to improve spell variety.
[olist]NOTE: Spells can no longer roll with a modifier that buffs/debuffs the same element. For example, a blue spell cannot roll with a blue attack buff. This incentivizes multi-element decks.
[/*]A few new modifiers have been added as well, such as \"Hunger\" which drastically increases attack damage of the spell, but increases its special ammo cost by 1.
[/*][/olist][/*]Enemy spell indicators have gotten a visual upgrade. These now indicate the type of attack the enemy is doing (melee, projectile, shield, etc) and more clearly communicate how long an enemy will take to cast their spell. This gives you more information to decide whether to counter their spell, dodge it, or just move out of the way.
[/*][/olist]Minor Updates:
[olist]Player character has a run animation!
[/*]Gamepad issue when playing on a SteamDeck has been fixed.
[/*]Special ammo now has a radial indicator to convey how much ammo the play has left.
[/*]A log has been added that shows recently collected spell cards, their rarity, and their level.
[/*][/olist]As always, please provide feedback and let us know your general thoughts in the Steam discussion board, thank you!
Happy Scream Fest everyone!
To celebrate this spooky festival, https://store.steampowered.com/app/4020390/Discard_All_Hope__Demo/\"" style="color:#bb86fc;text-decoration:none;">Discard All Hope\'s Demo is getting a major update!
Full of quality of life improvements and some behind-the-scenes changes, but most importantly... a very challenging boss fight...
[/img]
This boss can be accessed from a portal by exploring the final area after defeating the Nymph of Maelsid boss fight (the big centipede). He can be fought multiple times and drops rare variants of numerous cards, but beware, he\'s no push over!

Additional changes:
[olist]A complete overhaul of the save system. You will no longer lose all your progress when the game is updated, and this paves the way for cloud saves and importing your save into the finished game when it releases!
[/*]Improved visibility when near tall structures that obscure the player. Roofs and other tall objects now disappear when near them.
[/*]Improved visibility of doors.
[/*]Added boss names to health bars.
[/*]Barrier sigils now point the player to broken barriers. This should make identifying which barriers are affected by sigils a little easier.
[/*]Improved tutorial messages and demonstrations.
[/*]Added options button from start screen.
[/*]Fixed bug where players would move faster after a status effect was removed.
[/*][/olist]Please report any and all bugs you find or feedback you have to this discussion board post!
This will likely be the last major demo update for the foreseeable future. Feedback, sharing, and support of Discard All Hope is very appreciated, thank you!

If you are new , Discard All Hope is:
A \"twin stick\" shooter (it does support Mouse and Keyboard though)
[/*]An Action RPG with an emphasis loot.
[/*]A deckbuilder.
[/*]Placed in a late Gothic Victorian horror setting.

Discard All Hope is a particularly good fit for the No Time to Loot festival as it\'s all about looting new spells for you deck of cards. These cards act as both attacks/abilities, but also function similarly to equipment by boosting your passive stats and affecting your elemental resistances.
