Linux/macOS Update, Steam Deck

Hi everyone! This is just a minor housekeeping update for the Linux and macOS versions - all it does is update FNA, the game's underlying framework, which can improve performance and stability without actually changing anything in the game. This is also provided for Windows in the 'fna-win32' beta branch, but as always this is experimental-only and is not supported by default. One small in-game change was to default to the native resolution when in Big Picture and Deck mode, so that the viewport fits the screen you're using. This allowed us to get a Verified rating, so if you still like playing the original Rogue Legacy and want to play it on a handheld, the latest native Linux release should provide the best experience! Enjoy!

Rogue Legacy 2 Launch Delayed to August 18, 2020

It has been a tough decision, but we've decided to delay the launch of Rogue Legacy 2 by three and a half weeks to August 18, 2020. We've run into a few setbacks and we aren't quite ready to show it yet. We're close though (which is why the delay is so short), we just need a bit more time to get it in a state that we're truly proud to display. We know a lot of fans will be disappointed by the delay, and for that we apologize. Even in Early Access we don't want to compromise the quality of the game, and we hope it shows when we finally make it to launch.

Lament of Zors Update - v1.5.1

Well that was quick! Another update to the Lament of Zors mod has been provided by modder, default0, aimed at addressing some stability and in-game QoL issues that were raised with v1.5. Check out the changes below:

  • Fix Projectiles in the Graveyard Ghost fight sometimes changing direction
  • Fix several minor graphical issues
  • Fix some bad pixels in the player animations (courtesy of Vorgozz)
  • Fix some configuration settings causing unintended side effects or not working properly
  • Fix setting a gameseed sometimes causing the game to freeze
As a reminder, in order to play the mod all you need to do is run the game. Before it starts, you will be given the option to run the original version of Rogue Legacy, or launch the Lament of Zors mod. Please note that this is an unofficial mod, so all content and support is provided by the tireless efforts of the modder, default0. Lament of Zors Update - v1.5

Hey all, The quintessential Rogue Legacy modder, default0, has dropped a nice surprise for everyone stuck at home. The Lament of Zors, the unofficial Rogue Legacy mod that is officially playable, has updated to v1.5. Check out the changes below:

  • New areas are easier to access and more streamlined.
  • Minor fixes and adjustments to room layouts.
  • A number of fixes to improve stability.
  • Adjustments to several room layouts.
  • Alexander IV fight has been nerfed.
  • Added a configuration file for game customization
If you haven't had a chance to try out the mod, there's no time better than now! It's as simple as choosing to launch the mod when running the game. Please note, because the mod is unofficial, we are unfortunately unable to provide support for issues encountered with the game. Rogue Legacy - The Lament of Zors Mod


Hey all! When we released the Rogue Legacy 5-year anniversary patch many moons ago, we inadvertently HAMSHANKED peoples' ability to play Cedric "default0" Schneider's super awesome mod for the game, Lament of Zors. To fix that, you had to download the v1.2.0b branch and install the mod, and afterward you couldn't play the latest version of the original game. We've made things easier, and added a selector so that you can switch between the original and the mod at any time! And don't worry, you won't lose your save files. So if you've been hankering more Rogue Legacy, this mod is gonna give you hundreds of extra hours! Without further ado,

Rogue Legacy: TLoZ (The Lament of Zors) Feature List


**warning minor spoilers ahead GAMEPLAY UPDATES: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - 4 new bosses have been added to the game - 3 New boss remixes have been added to the game - 3 new areas have been added - All areas are significantly larger - After beating the boss of an area, you always have access to the teleporter of the next area - NG+ progression scales exponentially instead of linearly - Stat boost effects scale with NG+ - Minibosses can spawn in the castle - Enemies are randomized between tier 2 and tier 3, instead of always at tier 3 at high room levels - The difference in enemy strength between areas is based off a ratio, not off castle size - Trait: Alzheimers has been removed - Trait: Acrophobia has been added - You can take fall damage - McRibs throw 3 bones instead of 9 - Spikeballs can be knocked around - Spikeballs get a redder shade the closer they are to exploding - Blueprints can be found multiple times, increasing them to +1, +2 etc. raising their weight and stats after a purchase of the upgraded blueprint - Dark Chest now has 0 health and 70 armor instead of 50 health and 0 armor as stats - Gold and stat boost drops are automatically collected - Stat boosts can be purchased from the enchantress after all runes have been bought - Player Level increases with stat boosts - Minibosses drop stat boosts - Spell casting costs increase the more magic damage you deal - Siphon scales with spell casting cost - Siphon and vampirism scale exponentially, instead of linearly - Charons Obol turns regular chests into silver chests and silver chests into gold chests - Curse runes increase enemy strength exponentially instead of linearly - Hedgehogs Curse makes you take 2x damage but gold gain is doubled - A new chest type has been added - Silver chests drop %-more gold than regular chests, instead of just a constant more - The elf game does not scale exponentially off your Gold bonus anymore - The haggle upgrade reduces the architect fee instead of charons fee - The passive gold bonus manor upgrade goes up to level 15 instead of just level 5 CLASS UPDATES: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Liches get EVP when killing enemies, increasing all stats but armor - Liches can sacrifice EVP for healing - Lich stats do not get reset after finishing a NG - Spelunkers and Miners drop Gold from Breakables - Spelunkers gain Gold by exploring - Spelunkers turn regular chests into silver chests and silver chests into gold chests - Miners and Spelunkers get 30% on their base gold bonus, instead of +3 gold per coin - Miners and Spelunkers get 30% move speed bonus - Mages absorb damage into mana based on how much mana they have left - Mages passively regenerate mana from an area up to a point - Mages can cast spells more quickly than other classes - Mages can land critical hits with their spells - Mages can cast spells for 1/4th the cost - Assassin sneak cost depends on room level - Assassins crits are deterministic, and when the next attack will crit, the sword lights up in flames - Knights and Paladins deal more damage (up to 3x) the less health they have - Shinobi and Hokage deal bonus damage based on remaining enemy health (up to 2x) - Hokage can heal past their max health, but this lowers their damage reduction - Barbarians heal whenever they attack something based on the damage the target deals - The crow spell has been removed - Dragon regenerates 12% of his max mp per second, instead of 12 mp per second BUG FIXES: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - OoB and cutscene glitches were fixed or otherwise rendered not useful for exploitation

    Rogue Legacy Content Patch v1.2.0 has been released

    A free content patch for Rogue Legacy (v1.2.0) has been released and is now available on Steam. Battle through special remixed bosses, unlock a new class, experience new traits and more! The update is currently on PC for Steam only, and will be made available through other distributors and platforms once we're confident in its stability.     Rogue Legacy Content Patch v1.2.0 has been released

    A free content patch for Rogue Legacy (v1.2.0) has been released and is now available on Steam. Battle through special remixed bosses, unlock a new class, experience new traits and more! The update is currently on PC for Steam only, and will be made available through other distributors and platforms once we're confident in its stability.     Rogue Legacy v1.1.0 Update Released

    Rogue Legacy v1.1.0 Major Changes: - Mac and Linux versions have been added to this release! - Added profile select functionality. You can now choose between three save game profiles. - Added Mac/Linux team to credits. - Jukebox is now persistent until you switch areas (or enter a boss room). General fixes: - Fixed bug where disabling fire shield displayed a mana cost. - Game now properly handles special character crashes in the hero/heroine name lists. - Fixed room that had empty block where a chest should be. - Alexander no longer moves in places where if you kill him, the money is lost. - Casting Mega Damage Shield now drains your mana faster than when casting the regular spell. - Fixed bug where player would no longer catch his own chakram or conflux projectiles. - Fixed bug where you could get the dragon fire spell for a class other than the dragon by locking the castle. - Fixed a few spelling mistakes in the game. - Fixed bug where game would function oddly when the system broke standard vsync and ran faster than 60. - Fixed bug where dungeon shader was being applied to all areas, affecting performance. - Tweaked the glowing fairies in the Garden to reduce confusion that players could interact with them. - Fixed bug where the backup save system wasn't kicking in properly if the map or map data got corrupted. - Fixed bug where one of the last boss's attacks had an incorrect hitbox. - Fixed bug where you could take damage immediately after exiting a compass room. - Removed the delete button from the options menu and put it into the profile selector. - Fixed bug where the Randomize Children skill in the manor had incorrect text. - Changed E.D.S to Flexible. - Added a more comprehensive fix for player/boss dying at the same time. - Player now makes a sound when landing after getting hit. - Fixed bug where you could see a bit of background during a death defy. - Fixed bug where quitting from heir selection with a character that has vertigo would result in him/her not having it on second load. - Fixed bug where credits were running extremely slow. - Fixed bug where lineage screen was running extremely slow.

    Rogue Legacy Update Released

    Rogue Legacy v1.0.13

    Major Changes:
    - Implemented some non-trivial optimizations to increase game performance.
    (Smarter sprite batching)
    (Merged several spritesheets to reduce texture swapping)
    (Additional minor tweaks to reduce GPU load).
    - Fixed bug where corrupt backup saves would get players into endless save corruption loops.
    - Forced flushing to OS stream for backup files to (hopefully) reduce the chances of a backup save corrupting.

    General fixes:
    - Fixed bug where gold would very rarely go into the negatives, resulting in a crash.
    - Removed normal mapping effects from the content pipeline.
    - Fixed bug where you could exit the axe carnival room, resulting in odd game behaviour.
    - Fixed bug where you could talk to shop keeps and architect while in mid-dash, resulting in a crash.

    - Fixed bug where money bags were not animating properly upon landing.

  • Rogue Legacy is a genealogical rogue-"LITE" where anyone can be a hero.

    Each time you die, your child will succeed you. Every child is unique. One child might be colorblind, another might have vertigo-- they could even be a dwarf.

    That's OK, because no one is perfect, and you don't have to be perfect to win this game. But you do have to be pretty darn good because this game is HARD. Fortunately, every time you die all the gold you've collected can be used to upgrade you manor, giving your next child a step up in life and another chance at vanquishing evil.
