Characters

We are coming to you with another Devlog! This time, we want to talk about character and customization. I hope you will have a great time reading, and lets jump into it!
The Inspiration Behind Zodiac Characters
When we set out to create the characters for Lunars, we knew we wanted something both familiar and uniquesomething that matched the fun, mischievous spirit of party games. The 12 Lunar Zodiac signs were perfect for this. Theyre rich in history, globally recognized and full of cheeky, quirky personalities that we could have a ton of fun reimagining. Picture a Toy Story-like backdrop where these Zodiac animals are turned into little plushies with attitude. Now theyre off causing mischief when no ones looking, bringing just the right amount of chaos to the party.New Characters: Whats Next?
Are we adding more characters in the future? Well, let's just say the lore surrounding the Lunar Zodiac animals is incredibly rich. Each country has its own variation on the Zodiac, which means theres plenty of room for new ideas. So while I can neither confirm nor deny anything, its safe to say the ground is fertile for future character development if we choose to pursue it.
Customization: Where Are We Going?
Customization is a huge part of making a character feel like its truly yours. Right now, were focusing on offering players. accessories and skins to mix things up. As Lunars evolves, well explore more optionsthink more outfits, unique auras, elaborate skins, and unlockable features that let players express their unique style. We want customization to grow with the game and give you all the tools to make your Zodiac plushie uniquely yours.
Exclusive Outfits: Will They Be a Thing?
One question weve been getting a lot is whether each character will have exclusive outfits. For now, thats more the exception than the rule, but were always listening to player feedback. Exclusive outfits give us more creative freedom since we dont have to make them fit every character. But we also understand the desire to use an outfit across multiple characters. Some might get their own specific looks, but overall, we want to offer a wide range of customization options so everyone can find something they love.Skins: Elemental and Beyond
Were really excited about skins, especially now that weve started rolling them out. Each character will have skins representing the five elementsEarth, Wood, Fire, Water, and Metal. But thats just the beginning. Were experimenting with even more ideas, and were keeping an eye on community feedback to see what players want. Down the line, we might introduce more elaborate outfits that completely transform a characters look, as Lunars continues to grow.
Character Progression: Leveling Up?
Many players have asked about the possibility of leveling up characters individually. While its something were considering for the future, for now, experience points (EXP) will go into a shared pool. This keeps the gameplay straightforward and accessible without adding too much complexity early on. We want to make sure everyone can enjoy the game without worrying about advanced progression systemsat least to start.Join the Conversation
I could talk about outfits and customization all day, but what we really want is to hear from you. After all, what better inspiration for new outfits than the players who will be rocking them? If youve got ideas for skins, accessories, or outfits, wed love to hear them. Join our Discord or Steam community and follow us on social media to stay up to date with all the latest outfit news and updates. We cant wait to see how you style your Zodiac plushies!Minigames

In todays Devlog, we want to talk about the Minigames our thoughts, ideas, and inspirations. We hope that after reading this, you'll understand our take on development!
When it comes to inspiration for *Lunars*, weve drawn from every game weand the Lunars communityhave ever played. Weve got influences from party games like *Mario Party* and *Fall Guys*, console classics like *Pilotwings*, and yes, even *Minesweeper*! The beauty of working on a game like *Lunars* is that its like being a kid in a candy storeyou can mix and match game concepts, and suddenly, youve got a brand-new mini-game or a fresh twist on an old classic.

Looking back, its hard to pinpoint our first mini-game. From day one, we had so many ideas bouncing around that it felt (and still feels) like a brainstorming session with a hundred caffeinated squirrels. If I had to choose, we mightve started tinkering with Water Wheel first, but it could have just as easily been Penguin Posse or Slice of Life. Honestly, its all a bit of a blur!
One thing weve learned from playtesting with the Lunars community is that different players excel at different genres, which makes some mini-games feel easier for some than others. We wanted the basics to be accessible enough for anyone to pick up and play, but we also built in higher-skill ceilings so hardcore players could get their fix. Were always listening to player feedback, and weve got the option for mini-game variants. So, if a particular mini-game difficulty is driving people nuts, we can split it into a harder and easier version. Our goal is to make sure everyones having a blast, even if it means tweaking the challenge level.
When it comes to team mini-games, weve explored a bunch of ideas. Weve got 2-player teams cooperating to reach a goal, 4v4 setups like in Soccer Punch, asymmetrical setups where one group is more powerful but has fewer players, team captures where one team starts off smaller but can convert the other teams players, and elimination teams where eliminated players come back with the goal of taking out the remaining players. Its all about variety and keeping things fresh and exciting!

As we head into early access, were aiming to have at least 25 mini-games in *Lunars*, and by launch, well be in the 30s. Well continue to add more based on what you, the players, think. Being a small team has its challenges, but it also gives us the creative flexibility to respond to our players and explore some of the more unconventional ideas. And trust me, if theres one thing we have plenty of, its fun mini-game concepts just waiting to come to life.
Now, about a scoreboard at the end of mini-games, showing the best scores of last week or monthwhile we dont have that built into the game yet, its something were definitely considering. We see the value in it, but it needs careful handling since *Lunars* is a party game, and your score could be heavily impacted by your co-players helping you outor, you know, sabotaging you. We want to keep the fun and competition balanced.
One last thing before I gowere making *Lunars* the kind of game you can enjoy with friends, family, or even that random group you meet online. Whether youre playing online or in person, were all ears when it comes to feedback. Were committed to making *Lunars* as fun as a barrel of monkeys, even if that means tweaking a mini-game after launch. So, keep those suggestions comingwere here for it!
