Three winters ago, I joined the Kingdom team and one of the first things I got to do was play Kingdom Two Crowns in co-op together with Gordon Van Dyke. He taught me a Kingdom hack I never would have figured out on my own - if you upgrade your castle several levels fast, you get your first walls and wall upgrades for free! I think my favorite bug has to be in Shogun when you chop down a tree a ninja was hiding behind, he wouldn't mind and just stood there hiding in plain sightBut being so well-trained, he pulled it off, and the Greed would walk right past him anyway.

When I joined the Kingdom team as a QA I was told to just play the game for the first couple of weeks to learn it. This liberty allowed me to figure out one of the known, but unreproducible issues. That was my first ticket in Jira and remains one of my favorite bugs to this day. It was this peasant who moved like they were waterskiing. I called it "a slider".

It was challenging to reproduce and it took me about a week of playtesting to figure it out. Eventually, I exposed it!

The issue would happen when a floater would pick up a peasant and then when archers would kill the floater, the peasant would drop and remain frozen in this animation, sliding their way until they would pick up a tool and become an employed citizen."Kristina, QA Manager


Now with the Christmas season coming and the snow already laying on the streets, I cant help but imagine what it would be like to just hang out with my colleagues in Christmas jumpers, have some hot chocolate and gingerbread cookies, then altogether gather in the Gaming Room, and just play the Two Crowns co-op with one another Driver, Senior Community Manager



My favourite thing is playing the Christmas Event in Kingdom New Lands. No matter how many times I play it, it still makes me so happy to get to prance around on a reindeer and drop presents. I absolutely love Christmas and this never fails to get me in the festive mood.

The thing I recently discovered is that, if presents drop near the Greed, they'll take those in place of a coin and it's actually so cute seeing a little Greed holding a present. Vicki, Community Ambassador

• The Knights have received new training, with a buffed leap attack that will knock back the Greed from walls and the Siege Dumpster. The Knights also participate in the Siege now.
  
• The Greed can now destroy the Turrets but the Workers repair them every morning for free. This balance challenges the way you expand the base and makes you hone your survival tactics.
  
• Turret damage and rate of fire have been rebalanced to adjust to the above change.
  
• The interactions between the Greed and the Siege Barrier, especially with larger Greed types, have been improved. These are bug fixes for improper behaviours, the Siege Barrier now should block the Greed more reliably.
  
• Performance improvements.
  
• Fixed situations when portals spawned too close to the campfire.
  
• The campaign difficulty setting "Cursed" has been rebalanced and will now provide an even tougher challenge!

We're thrilled to announce that we're setting up our Kingdom Eighties camp at an exciting new location - Steam Strategy Fest! Starting on August 28th at 7pm CEST and running until September 4th 7pm CEST, we'll be calling on you to help us protect our new camp from the ravenous Greed (they get more ferocious during events according to the legends!).

Things are about to get spookier in Kingdom: New Lands as Halloween descend upon us.

In the spirit of trick or treat, you might notice an evil grin on the moon during night time and haunted mansions in the far distance across the islands of Kingdom. Even the greedy creatures dress up in pumpkin masks but they wont be bribed with candy, they still want your coins and crown.

If you're lucky, you'll find a spooky horse drifting around in nightmarish landscape. You will only find the cursed steed on the second island and the following islands when starting a new reign during Halloween on October 30th-31st. Do you dare to ride the cursed steed? Be swift, the horse disappears as the bell rings in November 1st.

The in-game Halloween event of Kingdom: New Lands:
Runs from Oct 30 at 12:00AM to Oct 31 at 12:00PM
Halloween themed masks of the Greed, a spooky horse, grinning moon, additional atmospheric changes to the background.

Hermits added upgrades to towers and brought the Balista into your defensive arsenal. Super powerful, especially when the RNG gods smiled on you with prefect wall and tower placements. What's your favorite hermit?

The Winter Holidays are upon us, and this calls for a celebration in Kingdom: New Lands! As a regent its up to you to explore and get the holiday spirit going. Why dont you start by decorating the giant tree? Pay a visit to the poor snowman that struggles to survive during Summer, and it will give you a more festive appearance. And if youre lucky, you might find The Great Reindeer to match your new outfit. Theres more to the Reindeer than the lovely red nose. Can you figure out the secret? Maybe it will unlock some presents

We have news for ye olde Kingdom: New Lands on thy Macintosh computer. Apple dropped the 32-bit app compatibility with their release of macOS Catalina 10.15 (see their article here) which affected Kingdom: New Lands. Do not fear, we have good news, we have updated the game and added 64-bit support. That means you can play Kingdom: New Lands on Macintosh no matter if you run older 32-bit version or newer 64-bit version of macOS.

The update should happen through the Steam client. In case it doesnt work, you might want to start with verifying your local files. If that doesn't work, uninstall the game and download it again through the Steam client. This should not delete your current save files.

Once more, venture forth and be brave, ruler, and fight to the bitter end,
lest these New Lands conquer you instead.

The Kingdom series is celebrating its 4th anniversary on October 21st! It all started with Thomas van den Berg wanting to learn animation. His first goal: animate a horse. From this task spawned new goals, such as putting somebody on top of the horse, and giving them things to do and interact with. The person became a monarch. The land became populated with people, one thing kept leading to another, and soon Kingdom was born.

Since its inception, the Kingdom series has grown beyond our wildest imagination with over 6 million units across multiple games and platforms. And this is only the beginning, for the path ahead, just like the sheen of a monarchs crown, is a bright one! Game Director Gordon Van Dyke has grand, or dare we say even royal plans for the series.

Kingdom Two Crowns: Challenge Islands represents the greatest challenge ever seen for hardened veteran monarchs. Can you survive long enough to claim the Gold Crown?

Kingdom Two Crowns: Challenge Islands is a free update coming on August 29th! These themed islands offer an alternative experience to the campaign with tougher roguelike gameplay and each with its own custom rules. Drawing inspiration from Kingdom: Classic and Kingdom: New Lands, each challenge takes place on a unique land with a single attempt to conquer it. If you lose your crown, you lose the game.

Each Challenge Island has associated goals to overcome and rewards you with a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Crown when you reach their milestones. The acclaimed Gold Crown is very difficult to obtain, youll have to be a very strategic monarch with plenty of experience to survive long enough to even be within reach. These are truly formidable challenges for the most experienced of monarchs!

There are three different Challenge Islands to begin with, each tailored for the lonesome monarch as theres no co-op to help lighten the burden of the difficult challenges ahead. We plan to add additional Challenge Islands further down the road.



With the new Dire Wolf mount as your aid, protect its pup at all costs. No crown, no monarch. No pup, no monarch! Now build the boat and try to escape as you run to as many islands as possible before the inevitable.





Time is running out and you must destroy the Greed Lairs, thats right Lairs, PLURAL! With a Greed Lair on each side and several Greed Portals in between this challenge is fit for only the gods that walk amongst Monarchs. And dont forget about the volcano that is waiting to explode!





This land has been overrun and on the brink of succumbing to the Greed FOREVER! And now a fearsome pandemic is transforming citizens into Greed. The only thing you can do is try to survive as long as possible until your Kingdom is nothing but Greed.



Can you survive the toughest obstacles to claim the Gold Crown on each Challenge Island? We doubt it!

BEFORE I CONTINUE

Many fans of Kingdom know that the joy is in the discovery and learning for ones self. There are also those who want to know how this is different from New Lands. To help with both, well make the below list spoiler-marked on sensitive content.

KINGDOM TWO CROWNS FAQ

IS THIS A BRAND-NEW GAME OR AN EXPANSION TO NEW LANDS?
This is a full, brand-new Kingdom game, built from the ground up to offer a fresh new experience that is still very much Kingdom to the core. Weve added many new features, including the Japanese inspired Shogun setting, the first of many upcoming themed settings that enhance and alter the Kingdom experience both in style and strategy.

IS IT STILL A ROGUELIKE/ROGUELITE?
Weve moved away from the roguelike experience and toward a full campaign experience. Now all of the lands will be a part of your greater kingdom, with progress that will maintain over time (you just have to repair any of the erosion).

IS THERE CO-OP?
Yes! The campaign can be played either single player or local/online co-op on Steam.

IF I LOSE MY CROWN, DO I HAVE TO START OVER?
Unlike before, losing your crown in Two Crowns is not the end. You will resume play in the new reign as your descendant who has inherited what remains of your ancestors kingdom. You will need to repair the erosion and recruit your followers again, but this can be done at a significantly faster rate, allowing you to pick up where you left off and explore further.

ARE THERE STILL UPGRADES? DO THEY STILL WORK THE SAME?
Yes, many of the familiar upgrades are still here, along with some new ones - but how you unlock them has changed. Now you will be required to venture to new islands to discover different upgrades and return to the previous islands in order to use them.

HOW DO SEASONS WORK IN TWO CROWNS? DOES WINTER END?
Seasons rotate regularly and no longer result in endless winter, so surviving through winter into spring is possible; you just have to build your economy to enable you to last. Seasons do not reset when you leave an island though, so be mindful of when you choose to settle a new land!

IS THE KINGDOM STILL SECURED BY BUILDING THE BOAT AND LEAVING THE ISLAND?
Hahahaha. Thats cute. Not even close. Youll have to find the technology that allows you to defeat the Greed for good, but even were not going to spoil that part.

Kingdom Two Crowns will introduce new incredibly vibrant and unique campaign settings for fans to explore.

At launch, Kingdom Two Crowns will feature an additional stunningly gorgeous Japan-inspired setting were calling Kingdom Two Crowns: Shogun which will be filled with its own unique set of NPCs, strategies, and mystery. This is on top of the already revamped and reimagined medieval backdrop Kingdom is known for, which will also don its own NPCs and more. Furthermore, additional settings will be coming to Kingdom Two Crowns post launch, each with completely new environments offering their own different items and characters. These arent reskins, they are settings that offer different strategies to ruling in Kingdom.

This is the most extensive undertaking of Kingdom we have ever attempted but one look at that teaser trailer and you can see itll totally be worth the wait. Both the current setting and the new Kingdom Two Crowns: Shogun setting overhaul Kingdoms permadeath mechanic and introduce a new campaign style where death will still be your best teacher but you wont be punished as severely as before.

For veteran rulers, there are plenty of new mysteries to solve in our beloved horse riding simulator. For monarchs who have yet to traverse these lands, Kingdom Two Crowns will make you swoon with its remarkable aesthetic and keep you engrossed with its simple yet brilliant strategic depth.

Trick or treat! Halloween is back in Kingdom: New Lands. From October 30 to November 1, Halloween descend upon the second island and the following islands, with the evil grinning moon during night time and the greedy creatures dress up in pumpkin masks (giving them candy wont do any good, they still want your coins and crown). If you're lucky, you'll find a spooky horse drifting around in nightmarish landscape. Do you dare to ride the cursed steed?

Wow, it’s been two years since Kingdom released. Two. Whole. YEARS. Back at GDC, we announced Kingdom: Two Crowns and that standalone game is still in the works!

We wanted to give a proper update on Kingdom: Two Crowns though since it’s been a while! First off, it won’t be coming out this year like we had originally intended. WE’RE SORRY! It’s still a small team working on Kingdom: Two Crowns, and these things take some time! The vision grew larger than our original scope, to the point that this is no longer just an expansion that adds new content but rather a full-fledged new title​​​.

Speaking of new things, when we unveiled Two Crowns we didn’t give a ton of info about the game itself, but now we’re ready so here we go!

• New features! Well, this was a given but just to elaborate a bit we’re talking about a new win scenario, additional tech level, new citizen role, and more stuff we don’t want to spoil! And of course…
  
• Co-op! That is the biggest draw for Two Crowns for sure! Co-op will be local split screen, but it’s also hot join so a friend can jump in and out of your game at any point during the campaign.
  
• Brand new soundtrack! There will be zero tracks from any previous Kingdom game!
  
• Overhaul of visuals! The pixel art in the Kingdom series is already top notch, but we’re taking it another step up and adding new skins for the rulers.
  
• Available on lots of platforms! We announced PC and Switch, but alongside that we’ll also bring Two Crowns to Xbox One, PS4, and mobile!

A Christmas update for Kingdom: New Lands is now live until the New Year! There are a few secrets in there, too, so happy hunting! We also took the time to tweak the game a bit, so this is an official update with patch notes below.

The biggest update to Kingdom: New Lands has finally arrived! We've been listening to all your feedback since launch and one of your biggest requests is now in the game.

You can now choose which of your unlocked islands to start on upon a restart of the game. Yup, that means you can start directly on the last island if you wanted to! Of course surviving the last island on a fresh start is a whole other matter ...

Other updates include various bug fixes and optimizations:

1.1.0 Notes

• Let players choose which unlocked island to restart on after they lose the crown.
  
• Fix bug where farmlands would only appear to the right of the farmhouse
  
• Allow players to start a new game directly on any land from the map in the menu.
  
• Game now discards corrupt data in preferences/unlocks file, preventing a lock-up at starting.

Today marks the one year anniversary since the launch of Kingdom! It has been a crazy, wonderful ride and even one year later we're still super excited about this game and, more so, absolutely grateful for your support. We're also still committed to improving and expanding the game 365 days after it has launched, and we will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

I'm taking this opportunity to launch patch 1.0.4, which fixes a bunch of annoying bugs in the current version. This is slightly ahead of schedule, so let me know if it's horribly borked!

The next patch—aside from a small spooky surprise next week—will be 1.1.0. For that version I'm working on a way to let you start a new game on any land immediately, probably through the map view from the menu.

A bigger patch that fixes some issues including the "neverending blood moon" ( http://steamcommunity.com/app/496300/discussions/0/361798516951313016/ ) is underway and will be released in one or two weeks.

Apologies that patch speed has been a bit slow, got quite a few balls in the air atm with IndieCade coming up next week.

Hey everyone! We've gathered your feedback since the launch of Kingdom: New Lands and have a new patch that addresses a few things.

• Updated the game's engine from Unity 5.3.6f1 to 5.4.0f3

It's here, it's here! It's finally here! Kingdom: New Lands is now available for Windows / Mac / Linux. You can grab it for $14.99 / €14.99 / £11.99, plus throw in a few more bucks if you want the soundtrack (which includes new songs too).

Kingdom: Classic is also included with New Lands, something that we're only doing for PC players.

Kingdom: New Lands is coming to PC in less than a week! We can hardly believe it ourselves. We've had some fun getting the game prepped for release and now the release of Kingdom: New Lands is fast approaching like a monarch on a speeding horse galloping away from a dozen greedy creatures intent on taking their crown (a.k.a. just another day at the office).

WE HAVE A NEW TRAILER FOR NEW LANDS. It's the first trailer and the last trailer. The alpha and omega. The one trailer to rule them all. Did you see all those new mounts? And new characters? And a new statue? It ain't called New Lands for nothin'!

Kingdom: New Lands is an expansion for Kingdom, but it's also like a sort of gold edition of the game. It will be the definitive version going forward and it will be the only version we sell from here on out. On PC, though, we'll have it set up so that you can play the original Kingdom game when purchasing New Lands if you wish. When Kingdom: New Lands launches on PC and Xbox One, it'll be priced at $14.99 / €14.99 / £11.99.

If you already own Kingdom (Windows/Mac/Linux only) through Steam, GOG, and other official partner sites, then you can sail away to the New Lands for zero money when it launches August 9th whether you're using the Steam version or a DRM-free version. Caaaaa-ching. Check your library at launch!
