It’s been a busy few weeks here at Valiant, with our devs hard at work adding new features to the game, and squashing some of the more troublesome bugs we’ve encountered in testing. This week we’ve been focused on improving stability in preparation for releasing the first batch of these new features out into the wild. The result is Gyrodisc Super League v0.2.7, which is now live on our Steam pre-release branch ready for testing. The biggest new addition is the release of our third playable character, the veteran Gyrodisc champion Ivar Vidarsson! Ivar is a giant of the game (in more ways than one), and his larger catch box and powerful throws make him a formidable opponent on court. Unfortunately he’s not as spry as he once was, so you’ll need to plan carefully if you don’t want to get caught out by those tricky overhead lobs. Other notable changes include a number of animation improvements (such as unique character specific idle and diving animations and an improved catch and throw sequence) a simple ‘Tutorial’ screen to explain some of the game’s core controls, and a new ‘Exact angle’ control option that aims to map your throwing angle more closely to the actual analogue stick direction (rather than the current ‘normalised’ system that spreads the possible angles across the whole stick range). Check out the full patch notes below for a more comprehensive list of the changes. As ever we look forward to hearing your feedback on the discussion forum, and please report any bugs you encounter in the relevant Report a Bug forum so we can get to them as quickly as possible.
Patch notes:
Gameplay:
- Added a third playable character to the Gyrodisc Super League roster: Ivar.
- Added a new ‘Exact angle’ option (available in the control options screen), which removes the normalisation from the throwing angle when using controllers.
- Diving into other players now causes them to lob the disc up in the air, instead of instantly dropping it.
- Player’s are now briefly invincible after being hit by dives
- Players can no longer accidentally remove themselves from a team after selecting go on side select
- Fixed some issues where the disc could escape the court in rare cases
- Fixed an issue where players could sometimes be hit in the back of the head by the disc from incorrect angles
- Added unique idle animations for all characters.
- Added unique diving animations for all characters.
- Added an improved catch and throw animation sequence.
- Updated to the latest unity version release to fix some texture corruption issues when changing display resolutions.
- Closer integration with Steam to pave the way for later features.
- Added a new ‘tutorial’ screen, with some handy illustrative videos of the various moves available in Gyrodisc.
