Update 5

Another minor sale update: Unity and all assets have been updated, including photon networking and cinematic effects. This lead to a stream of bugs and errors that took most of my time to fix, so there is no new content. On the bright side, the updates should lead to better performance and reliability overall. In the meantime I have been working on a website for all my projects, check out some history or up and coming stuff: http://www.wardddev.com/

Update 4

Minor update for the first sale period. Here's the changelog:

  • Airborne character control is now more sensitive at low speeds. This should make jumping feel less 'floaty'.
  • All weapons will now fire automatically, simply hold down left mouse button.
  • Default quality setting is now medium, ensuring new players do not get discouraged by low framerates.
  • Motion blur is now turned off on medium quality setting.
  • Improved performance on high quality settings.
  • Fixed textures for falling boxes in the menu background, which were bugged since the Unity update.
  • Adjusted available screen resolutions to only show 16:9 resolutions (this is the standard, resolution can be changed at will).
  • Fixed a few mistakes in the skybox textures.
  • Fixed bug that prevented full text from appearing properly when you change a loadout in game.
  • Fixed bug that would make spectate menu close when closing chat.

Update 3

Demo version of the game will be coming very soon, hopefully this will get the servers going a little. Demo version allows you to play with other demo users as well people who have the full version, but with a few restrictions:

  • No Steam functionality (achievements and trading cards)
  • XP limited to 14, allowing 4 unlocks in total
  • acces only to 1 multiplayer map (ML01_Platforms)
  • No test loadouts; you cannot use locked weapons in practice mode
  • No access to Social Menu or Profile
  • No LAN mode
  • Client automatically disconnects to make room for paying players, if servers are almost full.
Along with this I made a few much needed changes:
  • Lower quality settings will now gradually turn off camera effects, improving performance
  • Added option to change mouse smoothing, allowing players to get rid of input delay
  • Fixed bug that caused tooltips to appear in the wrong place with Unity update
  • Added functionality to make game compatible with demo users

Update 2

I've finally managed to make the game compatible with the new version of Unity, with the new update I managed to make use of a few new Unity features:

  • Added bloom effect to accent luminescent objects
  • Added anti-aliasing effect to smooth transition between the gun and environment
  • Added motion blurring effect that activates when player is moving very fast
  • Added tone mapping to make the environments brighter and more colorful
Additionally I adjusted the lighting to meet the new effects; All in all a huge improvement to the graphics!

About the launch

Servers are up and running, everything is ready! Now we just need some players... In all seriousness, it might take a while before we get people playing reliably enough to always find matches. So for the time being, invite your friends over to play with you! I am also looking for people to advertise the game via lets-plays, reviews, free giveaways, contests, bundles or whatever; you can always contact me to ask for a handfull of steam codes to do so. Just explain what you want to do with the codes, provide links and such, so I know you're serious and not just mooching free copies. For any questions/requests regarding the game, contact me at WARddDev@gmail.com

    Drop Out 0 Content Linux [602.13 M]

  • Public Linux depots

  • Drop Out 0 is an online first person shooter with a twist: there are no hitpoints! Beat your opponents by knocking them out of the map.

    Gameplay

Drop Out is played in matches of up to 8 players, the goal is to get as many points as possible in a team, or alone, within the time limit. You gain 2 points for every enemy player you knock out of the map and you lose 1 point every time you are knocked out of the park. Every suicide will result in a withdrawal of 2 points to your own score, you clumsy oaf! The game offers a variety of weapons that allow for different strategies and playstyles; whether you want to rocketjump, snipe or fistfight there will be something for you!

    Mechanics

    https://sketchfab.com/models/6f7c979155a8495e9266fb767c8e7191

The game is built for multiplayer, you can play online, cross-platform easily and quickly. There is also an offline mode where you can practice against bots. LAN mode is clunkily available for windows, but can be improved and expanded if there is demand for it.

Playing online will grant you XP which you can spend to get new weapons, perks and skills. To keep the game balanced, you can unlock anything at any time. The price per unlock ramps up, making sure you can get a full set very quickly but getting every set will take some time.

The percentage at the bottom of your screen is your susceptibility. This number increases as you take damage, the higher your susceptibility the more knockback you will experience when taking hits.

    Features

At the time of writing there are 5 maps, 13 weapons, 8 perks, 2 character models and 2 skins for each. I will still be working on adding more content after release, which will be gradually added to the game.

Any player can host their own game on provided servers. As host you can kick/ban players and manage the timer and level selection.
When joining a game, the player can choose one of his created character load-outs. These can be switched in between deaths.

The game has been playtested a reasonable amount, but there might still be balance issues and bugs. I will try to keep up with the Steam community to notice and fix such problems as soon as possible.

    System requirements

Versions are available for Windows, Mac and Linux. The game is not too heavy performance wise, but just in case it has a bare bone setting so you can still run it on your favourite toaster. You will of course need internet connection with a reasonable speed to play online in real time!

    About me

As you might have guessed there is no professional team behind Drop Out. I am a 21 year old physicist in training from Belgium, when I’m not discovering the laws of the universe I like to work on my game development.
In the past few years I have worked on several smaller projects but nothing on the scale of Drop Out. During this time, i learned how to work with Unity and Blender which culminated in Drop Out 0.

Depending on the succes of this game I might opt out of a career in science to become a professional game developer. Even if that won't be the case you might still see a new title pop up on Steam in a few years.

    Special thanks to:
Doug Bryant (BulletMagnet) for the weapon models and teaching me how to model better,
Marnick39 for helping with coding, ideas and balancing,
Unity for their buggy game engine, PhotonEngine for their equally buggy networking code.
Thanks to the testing team, including CubicWarrior, Deraldo, Tafikay, Woxic, Patat, Joey, Anivia, hallway A1 and the FunnyJunk community!
Music by Louis Davita (check out his soundcloud).
Additional music by Kevin Macleod, and Adrian Von Ziegler.
