Neon Chrome Beta Update 6th April 2016

Time for the beta update of the week. The change list below. Mostly polishing and fixing. We may release one more beta update before aiming for a release candidate version.

  • Fixed shadow drawing.
  • Spiderbot now reacts if the player fires a weapon behind it.
  • Improved caching of stuff.
  • Optimizations: removed dev mode text and gfx markers from level generation
  • Fog a bit lower, optimized city gen
  • improved name display for loading tips
  • Now the elevators in the hub open only when the player exits the boss level.
  • Game shows authors for tips if set, there can be multiple death tips for killers, random will be displayed
  • Fixed bugs with the level mods eerie silence and tag teams
  • Updated loading tips
  • Some psycho dart tweaks. Fixed security guard line in xml.
  • You're Special" achievement now requires that all special levels are completed.
  • Pacifist achievement is now "Finish a normal level without using abilities, weapons or melee."
  • Removed booze reference from gunz and booze, now gunz and funz (age restriction stuff)
  • Special level stats now per theme in stats (only work on new games)
  • Cryonix text in hub with lower alpha for better stat readability
  • Cossbow no longer loses DPS when clip size increases.
  • More additional information to special weapon tooltips.
  • Airships no longer changing scale each frame.
  • Replaced Grenadier achi with "Stop the Overseer 1.0" achi (explosives achi very similar)
  • "You've just been erased" achi now requires a railgun.
  • Explosive achi limit lowered to 8.

  • Fixed some overseer level changing bugs.
  • Fixed gun drawing in character selection screen.
  • Removed "immutable" key value from a prefab that has placeholder boxes.
  • Changed the signs in gun tutorial to represent the new, more family friendly name of Gunz and Funz.
  • Added a sign to the weapons course to show the time to beat.
  • Stuns should now work properly regarding energy use, also lowered a cost little to accomodate the correct behavior
  • It is no longer possible to stun enemies that are in cryocasks.
  • ESC now always opens the pause menu correctly in co-op.
  • It should not be possible to fire missiles through the walls anymore.
  • Another co-op character selection fix.
  • Fixed a bug in a co-op character selection screen. Gamepads do not intervene with keyboard+mouse anymore.
  • max_players limit for special levels should work now (some special levels were not co-op suitable)
  • Overseer threat estimate now has cool progress bars which turn red and indicate "unstable conditions" at 10.0 and over
  • Even more enemy variants.

    Neon Chrome is a ruthless twin-stick top-down shooter with procedurally generated levels and destructible environment.

    Neon Chrome was created by 10tons - the company behind the cult hit game Crimsonland.


    Use your looted credits to permanently improve your stats like health, luck and damage. Your character also improves with guns and cybernetics during a run. Visit your nearest upgrade station and select from a choice of over four dozen enhancements. The enhancements range from health and protection improvements to defense and assault systems - and far beyond.


    After each death the game will generate a completely new path always ending in a final showdown. The Overseer controlling everything trusts his obedient minions to end your journey before you reach him. Your path will be a mix of randomly generated futuristic environments and hand crafted challenges.

    Before each run you choose one of three randomized "assets". The asset is a unique combination of role, weapon, and ability. Each one a bit different - everyone as good as dead. They will have all your permanent stat improvements in addition to their original qualities. The sneaky assassin with mines or the robust corp soldier with incendiary grenades? The choice is up to you.


    Almost everything in Neon Chrome can be destroyed with weapons or cybernetic abilities. You’ll shoot through walls, make rooms explode, and obliterate whole floors while blasting your way through the building.

    Overcome the latest killing solutions ranging from armed security to lethal assault drones and cyborgs. The building hosts a small army and even devastating military robots. To make your way to the top you also need to overcome handcrafted combat and puzzle challenges.


    If your friends would like to help you bringing down the Overseer Neon Chrome supports 2-4 players in shared screen local co-op!


    Armed with your skills, weapons, and cybernetic abilities you’ll have a fighting chance of stopping the Overseer. Go on, venture into the Neon Chrome and remember: Death is always a new procedurally generated beginning.
