Evaluation of the big VR4 survey
Disclaimer: VR4 is NOT CONFIRMED. We are still in the process of evaluating its feasibility.
We conducted a large survey under the motto Shape The Future of Virtual Rides. We received a lot of great submissions and were able to get a good overview of your wishes and ideas for a potential successor to Virtual Rides 3. We would like to take this opportunity to give you a little insight into the results:
TOP 5 - the most requested new features:
TOP 3 - the most popular game modes:
TOP 3 - your individual wishes:
[olist]
Create Your Ride
73% of respondents stated that they would like to use a Create Your Ride function, similar to Indoorlands. You can take a look at the workshop and see what users have already built there. Pretty impressive. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1378890/Indoorlands/
Kickstarter
As the potential development of a successor to VR3 would involve a great deal of effort, both in terms of time and money, we naturally also have to think about funding. That's why we asked you about crowdfunding. Only a quarter of respondents had any experience of this, but 40% could definitely imagine such an approach and a further 46% could possibly imagine it. That makes us very happy!
What does this mean?
The results of the survey will help us to assess the feasibility. Thank you again for your participation. We would like to exchange ideas with you on our Discord in the near future. We would also like to give you our perspective on the project and the great challenge of addressing a larger target group than before with a potential successor to VR3. Until then, we hope you enjoy the latest update. As always, we value your feedback and encourage you to share your thoughts on this update with us. Your continued support helps us make VR3 better with every update. You can also join our Pixelsplit Discord server: https://discord.gg/fDV3YPA -Your Team Pixelsplit
Dear loyal players and supporters, VR3 is now 7 years old and we at Team Pixelsplit want to give you the opportunity to help shape the future of virtual rides. Do you want to be a part of this? Then join in now. Click here. Discord Discussion Forums for questions/ideas/help:
What is our goal?
We want to find out whether it makes sense to start developing Virtual Rides 4. To do this, we want to find out what your basic interest is and, above all, what a VR4 should look like so that it is the best funfair simulator the world has ever seen. And what better way to do this than to ask you, our loyal players and experts in the field, for your wishes and opinions.
What's the procedure?
Take your time to complete this survey. You have one week to submit your answers. We will read all your answers and summarize the results. Our team will analyze the results and create a feasibility concept.
And then? What happens next?
We want to involve you in the process and will share the results and conclusions of the survey with you as soon as we have finished our analysis and the feasibility concept. At the same time, we will continue to work on VR3 updates and DLCs.
Important:
This is not an announcement for Virtual Rides 4, but a first step to evaluate if a development is reasonable and feasible. You, our community, have made so many great suggestions over the years, which we want to collect here. Let's work together to create something great that has never been seen before. But let's also remain calm, realistic and constructive.

New rides
This time we have focused on adding two new rides instead of one. First up, we have "Glider" - Feel the rush as you soar through the sky. With its unpredictable twists, "Glider" promises an adrenaline-packed experience like no other. Next, prepare to take a ride on "Upside Down" - Feel the G-forces. With its intense rotation, "Upside Down" is guaranteed to leave you breathless. You can unlock the new rides here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2790450 As always, remember that you can often get a better deal with the Ultimate Edition. https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/10726/Virtual_Rides_3_Ultimate_Edition/

We have also added a feature that allows you to create multiple ride designs per ride. You can then switch between different designs with just a few clicks. These are also stored under Documents/VR3/Custom Designs. This means you can easily exchange them with other players. We hope that this feature will also be of interest to the active modder community.
As always, we value your feedback and encourage you to share your thoughts on this update. Your continuous support helps us make VR3 better with each update. Feel free to join our Pixelsplit Discord server: https://discord.gg/fDV3YPA -Your VR3 Team

What is next?
First and foremost, we are overjoyed by the vibrant enthusiasm and enduring passion that you, our valued players, continue to show for Virtual Rides. The creativity shown through modding and the countless hours many of you have dedicated to the game truly warms our hearts. A big thank you to each and every one of you! Now to the burning question: what is on the horizon for VR3? As a compact but ambitious studio, we've been channelling our creative energies into two other exciting projects - Indoorlands and REVEIL. Admittedly, this has left us with limited resources to devote to Virtual Rides. However, we're eager to put some more focus back into VR3 and are outlining plans to release 2-3 updates each year. The updates will mainly include new rides, but we are also working on some features such as managing different customisations for your rides, allowing you to switch between different themes. This should be of particular interest to modders. This rhythm is planned to be continued for as long as the technical framework of our nearly seven year old game allows. We are beginning to bump up against some of its inherent limitations, but our ambition to bring you exciting new content and improvements remains unwavering. As always, we value your feedback and encourage you to share your thoughts on this update. Your continuous support helps us make VR3 better with each update. Feel free to join our Pixelsplit Discord server: https://discord.gg/fDV3YPA -Your VR3 Team

Dear Virtual Rides Community, you surely all have noticed that we have been working on our new park building simulation "Indoorlands". Today, after 2 years of work, the time has finally come and we are releasing Indoorlands for PC, Mac and Linux as Early Access. [previewyoutube=zSlqCk1413Q;full][/previewyoutube] Of course we also took the wishes of the Virtual Rides community into account when developing the game and integrated the well-known ride features into Indoorlands. You can expect 8 unique rides at the beginning of the Early Access phase, which you can not only control and color, but also create your very own environment with the help of our decoration system. Whether it's pirate, western, space, urban, Viking or Japanese, there's something here for everyone. Of course, we'll be adding more rides during the Early Access phase, as well as adding new theming options. In addition, we have of course also the theme "roller coasters" on the screen and will find a way to integrate roller coasters into the game here. To celebrate the release, Indoorlands is available at a special price of 9.99 euros. One feature we are currently developing we are especially proud to announce to you: The ride builder. "Build your Ride" We are currently developing a mode in Indoorlands where it will be possible to design a ride from scratch. Should it be a round ride? What platform should there be, how many gondola crosses should there be, how fast should they be able to rotate or are they physical? Will there be rollover gondolas and how many of them? Or should it rather be a ride with lift? A swing? There are no limits to creativity and we are only at the beginning! As soon as the prototype is further developed and there are first pictures, we will of course share them with you. For now, we are looking forward to your feedback on Indoorlands and are excited to see how the game will develop with you over the next few months. We will have some time for Virtual Rides in the future and will deliver new content there as well. Thank you for this incredible journey over the last 15 years! We're proud of how what was once a small ride simulator has now evolved into an entire park-building game. And now off to your own indoor land: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1378890/Indoorlands/ Cheers, your Pixelsplit Team

- Fixed: "Flipping Disc" hub lift animation
Hi, today we publish the new update 2.1. At the end of these patch notes (at the very bottom) we have some more news for all ride fans, who not only love funfairs, but also amusement parks... steamhappy. The update contains the following changes:
New ride: Flipping Disc
We added the long-awaited new "Flipping Disc" ride via DLC.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1427010 Like always you might get the DLC cheaper via the ultimate bundle: https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/10726/Virtual_Rides_3_Ultimate_Edition/
Strobe colors & hex colors
Many of you wished different colors for the strobe light, so we added a selection for it.
We also added a hex input field for color selection so it should be much easier to set the perfect colors.
Modding improvements
We added custom font modding support. In the modding folder (Documents/VR3) you can find "Custom Fonts" now. Throw in .ttf or .otf files and they'll be made accessible in the game. This feature is experimental for now, so please give us your feedback about it. Additionally some of you players had plenty of custom themes in the game which could lead to memory problems (because all these themes were loaded). Now we just fully load the themes that are actually used by a fully loaded ride. If the ride is unloaded and no other ride uses the theme we unload the theme again.
Other changes

- Added: Setting to disable vomiting of visitors (under "Game")

- Fixed: Memory issue with custom themes
- Fixed: Fog going in weird directions
- Fixed: Big Spin automatically putting podest in safety position when arms are parked
- Fixed: Chopper gondola physics acting weird
- Fixed: Titan gondola physics acting weird
- Fixed: Casino swing backwall being transparent in lower model detail
- Fixed: Hurricane gondola decoration being hidden in lower model detail situations
- Fixed: Astronaut ride parking upside down
- Fixed: "The Falcon" gondola grid texture being invisible sometimes
- Fixed: "Giant Mill" engine not rotating correctly when controlled with panel
- Fixed: "Giant Mill" not parking correctly
- Fixed: Wrong flag order on "Handstand" ride
- Unity Engine Update 2019.4

Start of Modding Support - Custom themes
What you guys already did with VR3 is awesome! We are always speechless of the stuff we see in the screenshot section. Unfortunately we always break your mods when we release an update. We now started opening the game for modding! The first step is that you can load custom themes in your game. Therefore just open the game and it will create a folder with the custom theming files in Users/Documents/VR3/Custom Themes/Custom Example. You can modify or duplicate this folder and change all the images inside.
Support for aspect ratio 21:9
Some of you said that the game UI doesnt properly scale with an aspect ratio of 21:9. We adjusted and improved the scaling of the UI accordingly.

Hi, first of all: Happy New Year 2019 to all of you! It is going to be great :) Today we release update 1.3.5 to you. Here are the changes
Performance
The last patch introduced some performance problems on some systems due to the engine changes and how the UI was handled. We improved that and hope the performance is at least back at the old niveau. It even should be even better now compared to the pre-1.3 update. Please give us feedback about this!
New settings
In the last patch we reduced the distance you can see and added a distance fog to blend out the distant geometry. Not all of you were happy about it so we added options for that (fog and distance).

New ride and new map tile
We extended the map (to the left of the current city tile) and added a new ride to it. We hope you enjoy it!
New customization parts
We also added some new customization parts, several of which are Christmas themed. But more importantly we added a new effect part. We present to you: The Flamethrower.
Ride automatics (BETA)
To give the fairground a more lively feel we added automatic programs. These are started automatically when you enter a fairground tile. They are interrupted as soon as you take over the ride controls. Please note that this is a beta feature, so it could have some bugs here and there. Also note that there is no automatic program for the Crazy Spin right now.
Other changes
- Upgraded to new engine version which allows future improvements
- Improved: Increased speed of animations in queue

- Improved: Performance (due to new engine upgrade)
- Improved: Running lights also have a color during daytime
- Fixed: Adjusted some of the navmeshs so visitors can walk more fluently

If you didn't know yet why it took us so long to create this update, read this: https://steamcommunity.com/games/515260/announcements/detail/1706195930374952175 - Euer VR3-Team
Dear Community,
while we are working on the next update for Virtual Rides III, we are also building the next ride that you can discover and control in the update. Here are some first impressions.
So what is the current status? The ride is almost done and we started the new fairground. It will be left to the current city tile. We are also working on these topics:
- Automatic ride programs so the fairground is always in movement
- Improving microphone volume
- Some performance improvements
- Improving AI, also to allow a more fluent and queuing and dequeuing process
- New effect part for the light cages (you will like it :D)
Dear VR3 Community,
first of all we would like to apologize for not beeing able to say a single word for so long. We would like to explain this circumstance now and explain how we continue with VR3.
What happened?
We don't want to overstrain this part, therefore a short summary. After the release of VR3, our publisher was unsatisfied with the sales and the delivered scope of the project. Unfortunately, our contract seemed to allow too much room for interpretation for both parties. In particular our financial security was strongly endangered by this situation, therefore we saw ourselves after some unsuccessful solution attempts forced to call in a lawyer. From this point on it became so uncomfortable that we could not give out any more information (especially not to you, the community). It was painful to read the discussions here, but not beeing able to contribute - that will change now.
How did we come to an agreement?
After more than a year and a lot of back and forth we could find a satisfactory solution for everyone. The most important aspect for you might be that we have the license for digital distribution back and the product "Virtual Rides 3" can now be found in our account. This means we don't have to fear an account block anymore and can develop the project on our own, without the former publisher being involved. A further aspect worth mentioning is that the agreement includes that the publisher will continue to be active in retail sales with our product for the next few years, especially in order to reduce existing copies.
What are the future plans?
We still believe in "Virtual Rides". Contrary to some opinions in the discussion forum, we are not working on a fourth sequel. We will continue developing VR3 further. The used engine "Unity" has improved very positively in the time and we would like to try to take some of the improvements and use them for VR3.
But much more important for you: We will build a new tile on the map first, on which you will also find another ride. Unfortunately we can't give you an exact timetable yet.
Of course we also have many more ideas, but more about that at a later date.
We hope that you can understand our situation as developers and would be happy if you give us the chance to revive "Virtual Rides".
Please let us know your thoughts in the comments section!

Hey community!
Today we present to you something very exciting a new update with the title Release the Tentacle. Some of you might be able to guess what that means.
In the new version 1.2 we bring you the new ride called The Tentacle. A rotatable main engine, from which five tentacle-like arms emerge, which are moved up and down by the eccentric. On each arm is attached a controllable cross with five free-swinging gondolas (if the brake is not activated ). The ride is optically garnished with the flashing octopus head on the middle section.
The very brave of you can of course experience the ride in Virtual Reality a the ride is of course also in "Virtual Reality" mobile but maybe put a barf bag aside
Besides the new ride, we fixed a few small bugs in this patch and worked slightly on the performance.
Here is the Change-Log:
New content:
New ride: The Tentacle
Modified map tile for the new ride
VR Experience for The Tentacle
Improvements:
Visual improvements of the weather system
Several performance optimizations
Fixes:
Fixed sound problem for players that had a lot of jingles in their custom jingles folder
The podest of the Casino Swing ride lowers to the correct position now
We hope you like the new update. Enjoy it!

Hey riders!
Today we deliver the latest version 1.1 which comes with some improvements, and above all with additional content, which we created for you the community. Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions!
We present to you the new ride "Big Spin" - two independently controllable arm motors and a free-swinging gondola should give you even more exciting fairground thrills. You can even experience it in Virtual Reality
This ride can be found on a new fairground tile, which seamlessly extends the already existing map.
Furthermore, we added two highly requested features. We added a free cam to fly around a ride (you can control it with your mouse and the arrow keys on your keyboard) this should give you even more ways to experience your rides. Many of you also requested that the control panel activation (Shift key) should be available from all ride-cameras, so we added this feature.
We hope you will enjoy this update as we do and are looking forward to hearing from you.
Here is the full changelog:
