Hey everyone A lot of you have been asking for The Escapists 2 on mobile devices and today were super excited to confirm that it is indeed coming. Its called The Escapists 2: Pocket Breakout and will be available on iOS, Android and Amazon phones and tablets. You wont even have to wait long, as it is launching in just two weeks on January 31st!

So whats The Escapists 2: Pocket Breakout?

At its core, its The Escapists 2 you know and love. We will, however, be rolling it out slightly differently, with additional content being added over time. At launch, youll get 5 prisons to escape from: Precinct 17 (the tutorial) Center Perks 2.0 Rattlesnake Springs K.A.P.O.W Camp Area 17 The five remaining base game prisons will all be added over time completely free of charge, giving you a continuous reason to dive back in. Well have more details about additional content roll-out in the weeks and months to come. The Escapists 2: Pocket Breakout launches with drop-in/drop-out local multiplayer allowing you to play with fellow escapists each on their own mobile or tablet device. This allows you to very easily jump between solo-play and co-op any time you want!

One of the biggest events in the gaming calendar, The Game Awards, is fast approaching and were extremely proud to see that not just one but TWO Team17 releases have been nominated for awards this year! Hi everyone! Today we’re excited to announce the Inmate Induction update, adding several new features and improvements to The Escapists 2 to improve the experience for new and existing players alike. These improvements are based on feedback from all of you, collected from both the Steam forums, surveys and social media. Your feedback has always been very important to us, and we do hope these changes make the game even better for everyone!

Manual Saving

You can now toggle manual saves, if you want more control over when exactly the game saves. With manual saves, you simply walk over to your own bed to be prompted to save your game. This should allow you to try your daring escapes without risk of losing everything! Save settings can be toggled in the Help & Options menu.

Robinson To The Rescue

Wondering how exactly to start your career as an escapists? We’ve added Robinson to Center Perks 2.0, who’s the 2nd most knowledgeable escapist in the world – just behind Jimmy Locke, of course. Robinson will now appear in the game with a red exclamation mark above his head, which indicates that he has very special quests available for you. These new quests will teach you the very basics of perimeter escapes, including how to dig your way to freedom. If you’re unfamiliar with the benefits of using the prison’s payphones, Robinson will also make sure you’re in the know! Beyond adding Robinson, we’ve also added a bunch of “signposts” in the prisons, where fellow inmates have dropped hints in various locations that could help pinpoint the best places to attempt your escapes from. Seek them out if you want some tips.

Improved Spawn Rates

If you’ve had troubles finding the items needed for your various escapes, you’ll be pleased to know that this update increases spawn rates for key quest items considerably. These items can now spawn in multiple locations at the same time, making it a lot easier to pull off that sweet, sweet escape!

Game Mode Indicators

We’ve improved the user interface to help make it easier to understand exactly how to play both local and online co-op the way you want to. This includes a clear description of the various online modes (Local, Private or Public), making it easier to understand exactly how to set up a game for just yourself and your friends. As a result, we’re hoping to only see Public games where the host intends for strangers to join the fun!

Progression Changes

We’ve changed the way new prisons unlock in The Escapists 2. Previously unlocking a new prison was tied to collected keys from unique escapes, and you used to have to complete most prisons to get access to the later content. Now you’ll instead have access to ALL the prisons as soon as you’ve completed three unique escapes, which will let you fully explore the game a whole lot faster! We’ve also added a number of additional improvements and fixes, that you can find in the patch notes below. Patch notes:

• Improved item spawn rates based on player feedback.
• Fixed an issue with one of the multiplayer doors on Dungeons and Duct Tape.
• Fixed an issue with picking up makeshift ladders after placing them down.
• Fixed an issue with vent shadows not appearing properly on Santa's Shakedown.
• Fixed an issue with placing indoor tiles over the cutlery drawer item in the Prison Editor.

We’re continuously working to make The Escapists 2 the best it can be, and we hope these improvements make the game even better for all of you. As always, be sure to let us know what you think, and please continue reporting any issues in our Report a Problem forum. See you on the inside!

Hey everyone You’ve been asking for it, and we’ve of course been working on it. Being able to make your very own rooms in The Escapists 2 is important to the creative process, and we’re very, very excited to be able to confirm that it’s coming. Oh, what’s that? Right, it’s actually AVAILABLE TODAY!!!
Just update your game at 5 PM BST today and jump into the updated editor. Those familiar with the Prison Editor from The Escapists will feel right at home here, as the updated editor for The Escapists 2 works much in the same way. You can still place pre-set rooms like before, but now you’re able to change absolutely everything about these rooms including walls, floors, objects, everything. You can also create rooms from scratch using the Zone Tool, allowing you to create any type of room any way you want. This includes the ability to now freely place a ton of new objects – like desks – anywhere you please! The editor will now also display potential issues with your prison, like being unable to get to your desk, make your way to roll call, or if a door has been blocked somewhere unintentionally.

Dungeons and Duct Tape

If you prefer prisons handcrafted by the team here at Team17, we’re also excited to announce our latest DLC prison – and the final prison included in the Season Pass – called “Dungeons & Duct Tape”! Hey everyone! With thousands of player-created The Escapists 2 prisons already available on Steam Workshop, there are definitely a ton of amazing creations out there. We want to celebrate the immense creativity among our players, and what better way than by holding a Prison Design Contest! Whether you're an experienced creator or are all new to the tools of The Escapists 2 Prison Editor (Pssst, find tips here), we'd love to see your creations. We're leaving it open too, meaning you can create your prison(s) any way you want. Any theme, any tile-set, any objects, anything. Just be sure you're not breaking any of Steam's guidelines. You can publish as many prisons as you want within the competition period, as long as you include the word "Contest" in the prison name (so we can find it!). Feel free to be creative with this.

How do you win?

We knew you'd ask and creativity is key here. You can turn your prison into a piece of art by "drawing" it using the buildings, objects, tile-sets and more. You can make a prison based on something in the real or fictional world. You can create your dream (or nightmare) prison, a resort-type prison, a water world prison or whatever else you feel like. Just keep in mind; it has to be playable, and it must be possible to escape. And you can't copy someone else's creation! If you'd like further inspiration, we'd encourage you to check out some of the existing masterpieces on Steam Workshop, or some of the custom prison videos available on YouTube.

The Escapists 2 Prison Editor Update

For those that have been eagerly awaiting updates to The Escapists 2 Prison Editor, I’m very happy to announce that we have a content update available for you RIGHT NOW as well. We’ve added the Rattlesnake Springs theme to the editor, adding new desert-themed tile-sets, rooms, objects, guards and soundtrack! You’ll find the new content in the tiles, rooms and objects lists, and the ability to select guard and soundtrack theme from the editor Settings. We can’t wait to see what you create and add to the more than 13,000 player-created prisons already on Steam Workshop! For a full list of all the changes in today’s big update, find the full patch notes below. 1.1.4 Patch notes:

• Editor Specific - Fixed a graphic issue when holding a premade room and hovering over the UI in some cases.
• Fixed an issue causing the player to lose the ability to use the "Join Game" feature provided in the Steam Overlay.
• Fixed various issues regarding invites within private versus sessions and lobbies.
• Fixed an issue altering the front end menus when spamming “continue” on the first screen.
• Fixed an issue causing the chat to close at the same time as the inventory would close.

Hey everyone Alongside Wicked Ward, our first DLC for The Escapists 2, we've released an update to the game itself, in version 1.1.0. Below are the patch notes for this update, that both prepares for game for DLC, but also fixes a number of issues. Please find the patch notes below. Calling all inmates. A big new update is live for The Escapists 2, packed with a variety of improvements to make your incarceration that little bit more pleasant! See below for a list of changes made… Patch notes - As part of our work to improve stability for some players we have added the option to launch the game with DirectX 9. This option will increase stability for players who are experiencing crashes. - Fixed an issue where quests occasionally didn’t have objective text on the in-game UI. - Fixed an issue where the “Invite to Game” option didn’t appear for Private Games. - Fixed an issue where the crafting tutorial gave an incorrect command for opening the crafting menu when using keyboard controls. Additional notes for Chinese players - Fixed connectivity issues on the Chinese servers. Players can now connect online by going into the Options menu and setting their server region manually to “China”, as opposed to "Automatic" or "Asia". - Fixed an issue where the console icons and input text didn’t display properly in the UI. - Fixed an issue where vendors didn’t show item prices in the UI.

Hello inmates! We've just released another update to The Escapists 2, bringing the game up to version 1.0.4. In this update we're addressing a number of issues, like increasing the time it takes medics to pick up guards and non-player inmates - now you have extra time to steal their loot! Patch notes - Fixed a number of issues causing crashes and hangs on certain hardware - Increased the time it takes for medics to pick up NPCs - Fixed an issue whereby characters’ appearance changes when reloading - Fixed a problem where a user’s swag bag would not function correctly if they had been looted by other players - Fixed an issue where V-sync would turn off after leaving a level - Fixed an issue with controller icons appearing incorrectly in Chinese - Fixed an issue adding outfits in people’s inventory when picking trash bags during the Waste Disposal job - Decreased the zoom level of the game when played at resolutions above 1920 x 1080 - Fixed an issue where the mini-map would still display the player icon even when hidden in a locker in a versus game Thanks as always for your continued patience and support! We've just updated the game to version 1.0.3 and have addressed another number of issues, including bed sheets not respawning and some items randomly changing into different items. Patch notes - Fixed an issue where items held in the player’s inventory would randomly change* - Fixed an issue where cell bed sheets wouldn’t correctly respawn during the next day - Fixed an issue where scores weren’t displaying correctly on the leaderboards for Center Perks, Rattlesnake Springs and Cougar Creek Railroad - Fixed an issue where players were able to prevent items from being lost when picked up by a medic by placing them in their crafting inventory * This fix only works on new save files, so if you are experiencing the issue, please restart the prison(s) as needed. UPDATED The first two post-launch updates for The Escapists 2 are now available to download! They address a host of things, including mouse cursor issues, multiplayer stat and progress saving, fixes to combat, Chinese localisation and UI, and general gameplay stability. Please find the full patch notes below. Patch 1 notes - Fixed an issue where combat controls would stop working when opening any UI - Fixed an issue where combat medics were unable to get to players in the underground of Rattlesnake Springs when digging out from cells - Fixed an issue where player 2 in a Local multiplayer game would lose controller functionality after disconnecting their controllers while the game was minimized - Fixed an issue where loading a save game twice during a meal routine would cause meal trays to display as white squares - Fixed an audio issue that could occur during prolonged gameplay sessions - Chinese - Implemented a smaller font, to fix various display issues - Chinese - Added "Craft" and "Hold to craft" localisation to the crafting menu - Chinese - Fixed an issue with Menu and Controller icons appearing incorrectly in the main menu - Tons of stability tweaks Patch 2 notes - Fixed an issue where the mouse cursor wasn’t working in menus when a touch-screen device or Oculus Rift was detected - Improved multiplayer stats and progression saving, allowing for all players to keep their progress when re-joining a game, provided they spawn into the same prison cell*. We will continue to work on this feature, and aim to improve it even further in the future - Reduced the likelihood of YouTubers/Twitch streamers appearing in-game - Further stability improvements *Each prison has four cells available for players, which are assigned when players join. Stats (Intellect, Strength and Fitness) along with money are tied to the cell that each player occupies. For example: If a player makes some progress and then leaves, the next player to join will then be given that cell and inherit the progress of the previous cell occupant. Cells are assigned to players in the same order every time, so if a group of friends are playing together and they want to carry on in the same cells as their previous session, they need to join the game in the same order as when they first played together in that prison. As we keep updating The Escapists 2 to improve the game further, please help us by reporting any issues you see in our Report a Problem forum.
