Its in Early Access for just $5.99 with a launch discount of 17% off, and an additional discount if you complete the Fullbright Collection bundle! In the Summer issue of the Fullbright Newsletter (which you should sign up for if you havent!), I introduced the concept ofFullbright Presents: an ongoing series of small, strange, lo-fi games I'm producing as a solo developer, to be released into Steam Early Access as they roll off the production line. And now, just a few short months later, here it is! This isn't a super-rough alpha Early Access launch either, the game is actually a pretty polished version of itself. There's a little more in the way of features and content to add, balance to improve, and bugs you'll help me find that I'll need to fix, but really at its heart this is the game as it's intended to be played. So, whatisthis game you might ask? Perhaps the real place to begin with that question is: what is a Fullbright game? With Gone Home and Tacoma, and even Minerva's Den, which is the proto-Fullbright game in many ways, these games at their core have been abouthumanity: the human side of the characters' experience, understanding who they are as people, what events in their lives shaped them, and in the end how their experiences might relate to our own lives, outside the game. Whether it's Charles Milton Porter's attempts to overcome immeasurable loss only to have to learn to accept and move on, Sam Greenbriar's struggles to reconcile her own identity with the expectations and prejudices of her peers and her family, or the crew of Lunar Transfer Station Tacoma banding together in the face of impossible odds and learning to rely on each other in spite of their many differences these are games aboutpeoplefirst, and through learning about them, perhaps we learn just a little bit about ourselves as well. Anyway, the new game is called TOILET SPIDERS, enjoy! https://store.steampowered.com/app/3098700/Fullbright_Presents_TOILET_SPIDERS/ You may be asking yourself: What? And to you, my answer is:
Toilet. Spiders.
Truly excellent cover art and logo by Markus Blow In brainstorming ideas for Fullbright Presents entries I've gone far afield, sketching up concepts for cinematic vignettes, digital travelogues, job simulators, single-room immersive sims, and yes, one darkly comedic, play-the-odds, randomization-based arachnid-centric non-combat survival horror game. But Toilet Spiders didn't come strictly from my own imagination: my five-year-old daughter Juniper actually gave me the idea, when one day she speculated about what if a spider jumped out of the toilet and scared grandma and of course my immediate response was, well I could make a video game out of that. Now the game is out, and if you're able to complete it, you'll see that Juniper gets the first line in the credits. The idea for the game ended up aligning with a number of other conceptual items I'd been wanting to play with: a game set in an abandoned research facility, a straight-up horror game, a game about managing your resources and tilting the odds inspired by the brilliant Buckshot Roulette. And so, for better or worse, TOILET SPIDERS was born.
"What PSYCHO did for showers What JAWS did for the ocean Youll never look at a toilet the same way again!"
So, the game is now in its first Early Access version, meaning it's not fully feature- or content complete, and I'm looking toyoufor input on balance and tuning, bugfinding and general feedback on the state of the game as it approaches 1.0. If you take the time to play the game (and I'll be so grateful if you do,) feel free to post on the game's Steam forum with any feedback you may have! All input will be considered, and will make a huge difference to future versions of the game. I do hope you'll check out Fullbright Presents TOILET SPIDERS; if you dig it, please leave a Steam review, it's the best way to get more folks onboard! Thanks for playing, enjoy (?) your time in my lo-fi hell world of giant spiders jumping out of toilets onto your face and good luck! -steve
This patch only affects the Mac build of Tacoma; there was an issue with the game launching properly on MacOS Ventura, which as been addressed. If you still have issues with Tacoma launching on MacOS Ventura, please ensure your OS is updated to the latest version!
Fixed issue with MacOS version crashing on newer Mac hardware and/or macOS versions
Hi there! If you already own Tacoma, you may notice a large patch from Steam today. But, despite the patch size, it should keep everything pretty much exactly as it was: we've updated the game to be compliant with MacOS Catalina's new security requirements, which required upgrading the game to a new version of Unity-- which means practically every file got touched in the process, causing a large patch size on Steam. But, everything should work the same, just maybe running a little smoother, with a few bugs fixed that we found along the way, and better compatibility for Xbox and DualShock controllers. If you see any issues with the new version, please let us know on the tech support subforum! https://steamcommunity.com/app/343860/discussions/5/

Katherine Cross wrote a lovely piece about our game in Gamasutra this past week. Check out the full article here:

"The game needed to deliver an experience that coiled tight around the emotions it was trying to elicit from us, and it succeeded. The overall result doesn’t advance the genre much beyond the ground staked out by its predecessor, but it still shows a lot of flexibility and creativity on the part of Fullbright. Tacoma’s is a world worth revisiting for its universe of personal detail. There’s much more I could add, but that would require spoiling the game in ways that merit a separate article. It’s sufficient to say that Tacoma works well enough to keep me going back. After the long wait, I wasn’t disappointed"

"Following the game's sudden—but deeply satisfying—conclusion, when it finally came time to leave the Tacoma, I wasn’t quite ready to part ways. The three hours I spent exploring the space station left me with a desire to learn even more about each crew member and their off-station lives—a testament to how well Tacoma is able to develop its characters in such a short amount of time."

Tacoma is Now Available on Steam!
Tacoma is a sci-fi narrative adventure set aboard a high-tech space station in the year 2088. Explore every detail of how the station ™s crew lived and worked, finding the clues that add up to a gripping story of trust, fear, and resolve in the face of disaster. From the creators of Gone Home.
We’ve worked extremely hard on bringing Tacoma to life, and now that our game is out in the wild, we wanted to share some of the initial reviews and impressions that have come in over the past 24 hours. Again, we are humbled by the amazingly thoughtful pieces written, videos created and sentiments shared about the world and characters we’ve created. From all of us at Fullbright, Thank you!
"Something I really appreciated was the individuality of each crew member. Probably the most immediately obvious thing is the diversity of body shape. The game doesn’t make a big song and dance about it, it’s more that it’s noticeable in a gaming landscape which tends towards a generic/idealised basic shape. These seemed like humans rather than generic game avatars. But beyond that there are also a range of relationships, family dynamics, faiths and personal struggles or ambitions. The more I speak to anyone, the more I find out that they have their own problems, heartbreaks and happinesses to navigate and it’s so nice to see that reflected in what you find out on Tacoma rather than a bunch of archetypes." Rock, Paper, Shotgun "I’ve never been much for stories set in space, outside of the occasional outlier like SOMA or Futurama, and yet, here we are. I got so caught up in the story, I found myself gasping out loud and putting my hands over my face. That’s how much I liked it. I risked jawline acne for this game." Paste Magazine "Developer Fullbright’s vision of the future space travel is impressive, especially with its depiction of a grotesque evolution of capitalism. In 2088, your loyalty to a brand is worth money, and it can even shape your family’s future. This feudalistic concept and other futuristic problems are explored in detail throughout Tacoma." IGN "Tacoma excels at making you care deeply about how those questions impact people. When the story was over, I was bummed. There was just enough for me to get to know everyone, but it felt like the first episode in a larger story, cliffhanger and all. That I came away from Tacoma wanting to know more about the fates of everyone I'd "met" is a compliment to any character-focused drama." WayPoint "an intriguing tale about mortality and relationships in the face of catastrophe..." Game Informer
Karla hangs out with the folks from Gamereactor to talk about how Tacoma's story will be told both through its characters but also through the game's surroundings.
"The Fullbright Company brought us Gone Home in 2013, a game that used exploration and environmental storytelling to weave a mysterious tale, and we talked to the developer's co-founder Karla Zimonja at E3 about their latest game Tacoma"
