Voice and context updates, various bugfixes, 1-button voice repeats

This update addresses all notable issues related to context within both the fantasy and real-world areas of Koe (). The vast majority of these took place in the school and we had the voice actors re-record new scripts for each scenario, and various smaller issues related to context or clarity were fixed during re-recording. Additionally, many voice clips were remastered from their source such that fewer voices sound too low or trail in/out at higher or lower volumes. In total, around 2600 clips have been updated. The following bugs were also fixed: - [3D] Certain enemy models were falling back to legacy models, these are now all fixed (most notably the bomb, butterfly, akashita, rokurokubi and the "wind boss") - [Minigame] Scholar's game should no longer randomly lock you out of his house. - [Minigame] The player should no longer get stuck between two panels that are close to each other. - [Battle] The fourth midworld boss battles now all end correctly. - [Battle] It is no longer possible to accidentally trigger a random battle in certain cutscenes if the player is able to perform a scene break. - [World] School NPCs now advance correctly (such as the helpful hiragana student and the particle teacher student) - [World] Kaori now advances correctly, and will teach you additional moves with the correct payment. - [World] Speech bubbles render for world event scenes correctly in the broadway. - [World] The classroom NPCs will no longer show up when an event is taking place. - [World] Saito can now be interacted with correctly in the scenes where she is present. - [World] Dialogue triggers for events now show up correctly, eg the broadway trigger should no longer mention being late for school when you're out with friends/family. - [NPC] Nakano's subsequent interactions no longer go through the entire dialogue again. - [NPC] The grocery store owner's model was updated to address various facial and clothing issues. - [NPC] Multiple/duplicate characters should no longer be visible while at home. - [NPC] Various background NPC animation issues causes by multiple clips not blending correctly have been fixed, most notable the gliding female characters at school. - [UI] Pressing Q and E or rotating the joystick while the Menu is open should no longer move the overworld camera in certain situations. - [UI] You can now repeat the latest voice dialogue using a single button without opening the log. - [UI] The dialogue log was moved out of the main dialogue UI and functions separately which fixes double-input issues. Additionally, various small placement issues with collision and NPC positions were addressed. Thank you to everyone who reported (and continues to report) issues!

Koe () Patch 1 is now live!

Hey guys! This is mostly a QoL/small content update patch which will be followed by another hotfix momentarily that will address some smaller UI, scaling and consistency bugs. The changelog is below. A second patch is planned that will address battle QoL. - [Steam] Added support for Steam Cloud Saves.
- [Help] A help section is now available from the in-game menu. Basic world and battle topics are available here.
- [Voiced audio] Various customisation for the voiced audio section subtitles are now available. You may now also have Japanese directly in the dialogue box, and there is now an option to delay the secondary dialogue for linear sections so the Japanese or English text is only shown after your first choice of dialogue
- [Log] The log now has voiced translations and the ability to re-listen to recent voiced sections. This log is available within the dialogue as well as through the in-game menu.
- [Balancing] Many battle calculation changes were made and earlier battles of the game are now more balanced. Certain fights now also give you a rush of JP before starting. You may now also set your difficulty level depending on your playstyle. If you prefer the grind then the difficulty goes all the way up to 11 and if you want a more relaxed experience then the difficulty can be set down to 1. While this is a content branch update, various smaller bugs were addressed: - [Audio] Various audio was re-mastered to ensure scenes were consistent in volume. - [Audio] Broken or "poppy" voice sections have now been cleaned up. - [UI] Issues related to unclickable settings buttons are now resolved. - [UI] Various overlapping UI sections were addressed and now hide elements when a dialogue or tutorial is playing. - [3D] The bomb and rabbit model now render the updated model correctly instead of falling back to their legacy model. Various smaller cutscene bugs, including the one where the player moonwalks into a scene were also addressed. Sorry if you liked this one, I did too.

Hotfix 2

This hotfix fixes the following issues: - [World] Certain dialogues became impassible after a while of playing, this update ensures dialogue states are unloaded on each scene transition. - [World] Fixed some particle lingering issues. - [UI] The correct buttons are now shown when playing with a Sony Playstation or Nintendo Switch controller. Keyboard + Mouse players should also no longer see joypad buttons in the UI. - [UI] The menu now loads correctly in all scenes. - [UI] The LanGrid button no longer closes the LanGrid in Megumi's world. - [UI] Tabbing through the moves UI window now works as intended - [Controller] Remapping the controller now saves between scenes and functions as intended. You may now invert your camera movement using the Main Menu config correctly. - [Saving] Koe () now backs up your last 200 save files, including autosaves. - [NPC] Various NPCs should now end their story correctly. Please note that it is a known issue that some users are not seeing new NPCs after a certain point in the game, and this is being fixed. Various Audio issues related to softlocks were also addressed. Hotfix 1

Hotfix 1 2024-04-22 The following issues were fixed: - [Functionality] The game currently softlocks for certain Windows users at the end of the first day when sitting next to Rora. - [World] Some Hasui (Water village) flowers had collision issues that cause you to get stuck on them. - [World] Interacting with the crystal on the beach at the beginning of the game will cause you to not return to the shrine the next time you come back to Koe, which was a little confusing. - [World] Some text bubbles in the real world were gigantic.

Koe () Part 1 is now released!

Koe () is a JRPG with the Japanese language at the core of gameplay. It's been a very long time coming, but I'm very happy to announce that the first part of the Koe () story is now available, it makes up roughly 80% of the story of Koe () with the second part currently being prepared for release, which will be available as a free update. Patch difference from last build (0.55m) is 373mb. Our plan is to make this the second last update before our full world update. The next playable update will add a little more world, then we will release the full world to all players.   • In Koe (声) you are sent to Japan as a high school exchange student. Make friends, learn the language and spend time with your homestay family during your time in the rural city of Sakurachou.
    Eventually you'll realize this small Japanese city is harbouring a certain perculiarity in its shrine, you'll be transformed and sent on your way to Koe- a world full of cities, caves, shrine, battles along with new friends where your words will be your most powerful weapon.

    Using your army of Japanese words you'll be able to attack, defend, heal and grind your way through the vast overworld, while returning to Sakuracho to learn the words you need to strengthen your arsenal. With your friends, will you be able to uncover the mystery of the princess Fleur and her family?

    Koe (声) is a narrative driven JRPG-inspired language learning game that aims to introduce the player to the Japanese language over the length of a modern and full RPG. Designed and developed by a team based between Japan, USA, and the UK, Koe (声) is an ongoing development to create a truly unique language learning experience.



    A collusion of a rural Japanese city with the fantasy world of Koe is the setting of your journey. As you begin your travels you will find yourself at an airport at the beginning of the game, and will soon travel to your home to the town of Sakurachou. Here you will learn about living in Japan, learning the language and meet a variety of locals along the way. Some native, some from another world.



    Your weapon of choice will be the Japanese language itself. By leveling the individual Kana, the building blocks of the Japanese language, you will be taught how to use the language to your advantage in battle as you uncover the secrets of the princess Fleur and the world of Koe.



    As items become words, they become your arsenal in your fight against the corruption that threatens Koe. You'll need to learn as much as you can in Sakurachou in order to strengthen the Kana power you have gained, and explore the two worlds to gain as much knowledge as possible.
