City Game Studio is a sandbox type management game.
January 1975, you have created your video game company. You are renting a tight place that allows you to develop your first game. Quickly, your games are successful and you already have to move, but it is up to you to cross the city to pick up your next local. In the blink of an eye you are hiring artists to improve the visual aspect of your games. Next came developers and then testers. But a problem remains, even if your games are brilliants, you don't have enough fans to self-publish a big game to make your studio profitable. You will have to turn to video game editors who will carve out the lion's share. Combinating successes is the only way of getting rid of the publishers. Furthermore you will be able to publish your own publishing contracts. Then you will then be ready to dominate the market and buy back your competitors.

Each game is unique

Maps and studios are procedurally generated. Combined with random events and customizable studios, you will rediscover the game with each new game.

Assign the best studio

Browse the cities and choose the location of your next studio. As my uncle said "we do not hire new talents with vinegar !"

Furnish your studios carefully

Everyone is not a studio designer, yet every piece of furniture has its place in your studio, and can have an influence on the history of your company.

Publish, hire, repeat

Each game is unique, but over time new generations of consoles come out. You cannot create a bestseller alone. You have to hire new talents that will help you creating the perfect game

City Game Studio 2: Behind the Scenes of Development and Fixes for the Original

Hello everyone!\n\nI hope you\'re all doing well! This week I\'ve been hard at work on City Game Studio 2, and as always when I work on the sequel, I end up fixing bugs in the original. Let me tell you all about it.\n\n

This Week\'s Recap

\nCity Game Studio is built with Godot 2.1, which came out back in 2017, a few years ago now. And I\'ve decided to start from City Game Studio 1\'s codebase to build the sequel. I explained why in a previous post, but the short version is: to avoid rewriting everything from scratch. A lot of the logic will be shared between both games, but many things are going to change. The entire interface will be redesigned, and the views (studios and cities) will be merged into a single 3D view where you can zoom in and out.\n\nI wanted to keep this brief so I\'ll spare you the other details, but to get back to why porting City Game Studio to Godot 4.5 helps me fix bugs. Since Godot version 3.x, a static code analyzer was added. And with Godot 4.x this static code analyzer has been improved. As a result, it finds bugs and potential crashes where Godot 2.1 finds nothing at all and just crashes instead.\nGame Description Image\nSo I make the fixes for the sequel, but I also backport them to the original. And that\'s how you\'re going to end up with an even more stable game.\n\n

What\'s Coming Next

\nAs you might guess, I\'m going to keep fixing bugs as I encounter them, and also keep working on City Game Studio 2. And for those wondering if they could play City Game Studio 1 in the Godot 4.5 version, just know that the Godot 4.5 version has no interface (no studio or city views for example), because these are elements that will be completely redesigned. You get it, it\'s not possible to play City Game Studio 1 on Godot 4.5. I do have a version that was ported to Godot 3.6, which is more or less complete (this is v1.24.1 and not v1.25.0), but quite a few things are broken in that version too.\n\nAnyway, you get the picture, I\'m waiting for your feedback to fill up the roadmap for v1.26.0 (which is already pretty full), and in the meantime I\'m working on City Game Studio 2.\n\nThat\'s it, thanks for reading, catch you very soon.\nTake care of yourselves in the meantime.\nXavier aka Binogure
