Today the game has received the official Steam Deck verification. Totally a surprise, as although I made sure in the last update to be able to be 100% compatible with it, I did not request a review and I was not expecting Steam to do so for such small game on their own. In any way, good news, and thanks again Steam!
Hi all, the beta patch is now available on the default branch. Old builds are available on the beta branch. Steam support was kind enough to restore the game after I've asked to retire in the first place half year ago. Thanks Steam support! posting the patch notes here again. 1.2: This patch fixes the following: - The major refresh artifacts bug that made the game unplayable - The game resolution getting stretch instead of fit. This was very noticeable on ultra wide screens. - Game sticks not working. Pad is still better for this game but now you have a choice - You can now window the game from main menu if you wish to do so - Other very minor fixes This patch removes the following: - Linux build. Game works great with Proton (and in Steam deck). If I need to do a new patch I would need to spent too much time managing and testing different versions. - Mac build. I don't even have a mac to test. The build can be built (is a Java game after all), but I won't release it without testing.
Hi all! I had some time to be able to tinker with the game code a bit, although most of the time was spent recovering the development setup. There is a new beta patch ready on the beta channel (you can activate it from the properties page of the game). This patch fixes the following: - The major refresh artifacts bug that made the game unplayable - The game resolution getting stretch instead of fit. This was very noticeable on ultra wide screens. - Game sticks not working. Pad is still better for this game but now you have a choice - You can now window the game from main menu if you wish to do so - Other very minor fixes This patch removes the following: - Linux build. I don't even have a mac to test. The build can be built (is a Java game after all), but I won't release it without testing. If everything goes well, and Steam does not have any problem with it, I hope to put the game back to steam, as a free game (as before).
Hi all, Raining blocks will be removed from the steam store for new downloads. Of course, whoever has it in the library permanently it will still have access. The reason for the removal is that a bug has surfaced on the game after this many years related to the refresh of the screen that makes the game flicker back and forth every now and then. It's a mix between the engine of the game used and the code not accounting to different refresh rates properly. This is most noticeable now with this many updates on hardware, software and of course, the steam deck. After reviewing the code, there is not enough of my spare time (this is still a free game after all) to fix it properly for all three OS (Windows, Mac, Unix), and I've decided that is time to let it go. It was fun and a learning process to work with a platform like steam, but if the game is not playable anymore is for the best. Thank you all. PS: You can always take the installation folder outside steam. If it was working for you, it will continue working (leader-boards won't work).
Just a quick note, I just updated the library artwork so it fits better on the new library from Steam. It was bothering me as the autogenerated were so ugly!
Yep, now Raining blocks is going free! Why? Well, this project was a test course for a complete cycle on development. From the original idea, to doing all the legal paperwork and tax stuff, marketing, post-support.. etc. Now that the cycle is finish (and the game at least has payed the publish fee), plus personal matters , it's better to just make the game free to avoid busy work on a game that was not going to make any more money, and I prefer to everyone to enjoy (or hate) it. Thanks for the supporters, was a very nice surprise!
If you are the one(yep, just one) that has bought the game on the last two weeks, please be my guest and ask a refund if you desire.
When? Well, I can't do it by myself, so when Valve approves the operation, usually one week from today.
HOLD ON! you say, if it's free, there are some "funny" stuff happening, like ads or freemium..? NOPE! I could not care less. I know that information is power but I just wanted to make a game where you don't need care about anything else, just a complete game with all features it can offer. Only scores and achievements are tracked and it's done by Steam, and neither of these if you play the game offline.
Patch notes for 1.1f:
Fixed performance issues when playing multiple sounds at the same time
Fixed performance issues when playing multiple particle effects at the same time

Hi there!
this patch contains the following additions and fixes:
-Ingame music by Sergio Gordillo Bellido (www.xperimentmusic.bandcamp.com)
-Now extra things are locked by default, and you unlock them earning achievements. This way people will try everything little by little instead of not knowing what to take.
-If you select friends on leaderboards it will always load even if you have "top" selected. Steam API does not have the friends/top combination to show
-New font! PressStart2 by codeMan38!
-Fixed hovering mouse not working on ingame menus
1.1.c - 2018/07/01
-Fixed the problem with unlocking where you need to restart the game to unlock
-Added label clarifing that the unlock objectives are steam achievements. (You need to be online on Steam to unlock achievements)
-Adjusted volumes of musics and sounds
1.1.d - 2018/07/02
-Fixed a crash to desktop on two players menu if you tried to move the menu before pressing space or button A

-Added 32 bits only binary for Windows and Linux.

Hi!
Thanks to Sergio Gordillo Bellido the game will have his own music, starting (in this update) with the menu music. Also, a mac version was released and the game is now localized in Simplifed Chinese!
This patch contains:
-Mac Support
-Little intro!
-New music
-Explosion sound it also played when a block explodes.
-Chinese localization
-now using the keyboard or the gamepad will hide the mouse
-now hovering over a menu the keyboard will preselect the menu. In the case of game mode selection this will load the description of the game mode too.
-fixed mouse not hiding properly when you started with the -windowed parameter
-fixed a few typos
-fixed minor bugs on menus
-flickering of blocks on full screen should be gone now
-minor tweaks
Edit: Also, on Windows version no longer it will lose the save with the user data on every update (I blame steam depot system!)
Hi there!
I just uploaded the first mini-patch for the game with the following fixes:
-Escape leaderboard records are now measured on minutes and seconds
-Fixed flickering screen on leaderboards
-Fixed a few typos
-Fixed "it's a new record" not showing properly on escape mode at the end of the game (and not saving the record on local). This bug did not affect to steam leaderboards as any score is always checked
-Fixed possible CTD on some situations (none so far, but better fix it just in case)

Raining blocks is now available for everyone. For the beta players (thanks!) there is also a little patch with changes since the beta version: -Mouse is now hidden at the start of the game. This is useful when playing the game with steam link and a gamepad. -You can now set the launch parameter "-windowed" to start the game on window mode. -Fixed bug with purple blokg gadget spawning a different block. Have fun!

We are nearer to the release date! I hope you can enjoy this little game as I do. It will have Steam cards on the future, when the game qualifies to have one. You can find a few of the artwork we are going to use to make them on the community hub!

Raining blocks it's a game where you need to avoid the blocks that fall, and which you push and pull to try to escape or survive longer. It has a split screen so you can play against a friend where you can connect same colours blocks to make it's life harder!
Raining blocks has achievements, leader boards and steam cards. It has three game modes (Classic, extended and split screen) with three difficulty modes (easy, normal and hard). With six characters to play, 4 gadgets to use and three bonuses to apply.
With music and art from the community (CC and Public domain), remember to take a look on the about section to know who helped (thanks again everyone)!
Have fun!
