Hi everyone! We ran into a hiatus this year, but we finally took the work we did the last several months and added it to the game, and it includes a new boss stage we worked hard on! You can check it out in practice mode.
As for the delays and the lack of any news on the main game and cutscenes, Im going to speak personally here as the organizer and "Team Kapptain" of this collab game and address that.
But first
I started a Patreon to help with NitorInc.!
The Patreon page is right here and has several tier perks related to NitorInc and our discord server. Just one dollar will get your name in the credits of the game! As of right now, this is a personal Patreon that helps support me as a developer as well as my efforts to bring this game to conventions and showcases. Everything else in this project has been volunteer work. But if we reach $75 a month, I can redistribute most of the earnings to our collabers and the Patreon will be converted into a NitorInc. Patreon. I really hope we can reach this goal and give back to our collabers, so every pledge helps! Anyway, on to the updates. Ill make it quick and in Q&A form:
Why the hiatus?
Basically me finishing up college, as well as some personal struggles over the last year. In my last semester I had to tackle more work than I anticipated, and I didnt put enough time into enforcing our collabers to finish their work and communicate with one-another. We tried to handle it by starting more microgames with more collabers, but that turned into too much for us to easily chew. Thankfully, despite being recently out of college, I do have a comfortable job lined up which will allow me more consistent time for side projects. I apologize for the lack of progress and communication from our end during this hiatus, and I have a plan to get our work back on track and stay active.
Whats the plan?
Our current dev cycle up until now has been self-governing with only soft suggestions for deadlines and a new microgame starting every couple of weeks. Starting this summer, our new plan is to start microgames in batches and start enforcing harder deadlines for progress. I would also like to actively seek more people to help me manage the collab and help move our teams along. This is a big experiment, and may take some time to get on its feet, but we believe it can help us create consistent content with new collabers while not being too much for me to pour work into during my real life. And I think our newly-launched Patreon will give us even more motivation to keep working and bringing you content!
What about cutscenes?
We still plan to continue work on cutscenes and story stages, but they hit a big snag when things got busy this year. Major apologies to anyone who signed up to help who hasnt gotten to yet. In addition to our new microgame plan, Id like to narrow my efforts into completing at least one cutscene and getting the ball rolling. This is brand new territory for us, so having a finished scene will help us understand how to pace ourselves while making them and will allow everyone interested in cutscenes to start contributing.
I signed up for the microgame collab but havent gotten to work on a microgame. Will I still get to go?
We didnt forget about anyone! As we make microgames, were still going down the list of signups we have. However, if this new plan goes well, we may redo our signups and require collabers to apply again when we start a new microgame batch. This would mean our collab would be open less frequently, but everyone who signs up will be given work to do much more quickly. If this does happen, well be manually contacting everyone who signed up for the original collab well before we open new signups, so dont worry about getting left behind. Thats everything! Thank you for being supportive and understanding as we experiment so we can fully realize our game. See you next update, and happy microgaming!
Hi Steam! We missed out on making announcements here, so let's make up for lost time. We're still kicking and have some updates! Long story short: we're releasing a bigger, better demo soon (July 28th), and we're making cutscenes for the full game, which we'll need all sorts of different talents to help with. Sign up here to help with cutscenes, or help us spread the word! More details below:
NitorInc. Demo+: Coming July 28
The full game is going to take some time. All games do. Since we don't want to keep you waiting forever, and since we have our collabers making awesome games 24/7, we're going to release an updated demo to the game. The update includes over 20 new games (that's double the content of the current demo) AND we'll continue to update it with new microgames as we finish them. Expect the new demo to launch July 28th as part of Redditaisai at reddit.com/r/touhou, the same online event our first demo released!
Full release plan: Character stages and "Episodes"
If you want to see the new microgames alongside new characters, stages, and story, just wait for our full release! Like any good microgame collection, the game will have story stages tied to different Touhou characters, each with their own cutscenes and storyline. Now you can finally see what the rest of Gensokyo is up to while Nitori is busy making games and scheming. Since this is such a big goal for a free fan project and will take some considerable effort, our current plan is to get a handful of stages done at a time and create a few episodic releases, eventually forming an entire game and telling the whole story.
Cutscenes! Help wanted!!
Our biggest new challenge for the full game is making the cutscenes for each character's stage: each story stage will have an intro and outro cutscene, as well as unique stage animations for the gameplay. While we have very talented people on board already, our time is limited, and we'll need some more manpower to actualize this. Our animation style is very simple, and mostly involves drawing body parts and moving them around. Learn more about the animation process here. If you have an interest in planning, drawing, animating, or making audio for cutscene animations, sign up and you can work alongside other talented people to make it happen!
How long will the full game take?
We really can't tell, not until we're super ready to know when. But we have no plans to charge for the full game, and we want to make some quality microgaming content for you to play. If you're excited to see the final game, consider helping us make it: The collab is always open. Also, if you signed up for the collab already and haven't heard from us, we're probably still making our way to you, but feel free to contact us. That's all we have to update with right now. The year since our demo release has moved by so fast, so we hope to get going and make some serious dents over the next year. Happy microgaming!
