In Great Britain & Ireland, players will travel to the home of the first steam engines in an age of unprecedented progress and technological innovation. Locomotives are the future but not everyone sees it that way, and youll have build respect and social standing as you battle rival companies to the top.
The new DLC includes the Great Britain & Ireland map expansion for Free Game and Sandbox modes, and tasks players with a new scenario. The update introduces new platform customizations, with stations and warehouses receiving upgradeable signal stations that give trains the option of which platform to stop at. Trains will automatically choose the platform that is least busy, reducing idle time while other trains are being serviced. The Analyst has also been added to the staff, who will cause mayhem on the stock market by placing false reports to manipulate the value of companies! Acquiring a company has also been smoothed over, with players now able to own 100% of a company without having to follow through with a full merger.

Tycoons,
we have released the latest free update 1.7.
New
- Dynamic platform choice
- Large train stations and warehouses can now be upgraded with a signaling control. All trains passing or stopping at such a station will make their own choice of platform. Trains will then always choose the platform which is the least busy at that time, which will then reduce idle time at highly frequented stations. During the creation of train lines, routing to a specific platform is not available at train stations with a signaling control.
- Another use of train stations with a signaling control is the ability to reduce idle times caused by maintenance of engines. While a locomotive engine is serviced at a station with signaling control, other trains entering the station will choose a different platform automatically. For highly frequented lines, an additional warehouse with signaling control and maintenance shed can be constructed. Trains that need to be serviced will stop at the warehouse, while other trains will pass the warehouse on a free track.
- New Staff member has been added
- The Analyst will cause hysteria on the stock market by planting false reports to increase ordecrease the share price of a company.
- Banks / Finance update
- It is now possible to acquire 100% of a companys shares without merging with it. In such an event, the player will automatically receive all surplus of the company. It will no longer be able to expand, but will continue to do business as usual. This state can only be change by a merger with that company.
Bugfixes
- Some seed values of random scenarios have not been processed correctly during input. Awards, which have already been paid out for connecting a city or a business, will not be offered again.
- Added a video tooltip and manual entry for the dynamic platform choice station.
- Rearranged building menu, such that the supply tower is on the first page.
Improvements
- [Great Britain & Ireland DLC] Based on community feedback, we have replaced the flat roofs of some buildings with gable roofs.
New
- Dynamic platform choice
- Large train stations and warehouses can now be upgraded with a signaling control. All trains passing or stopping at such a station will make their own choice of platform. Trains will then always choose the platform which is the least busy at that time, which will then reduce idle time at highly frequented stations. During the creation of train lines, routing to a specific platform is not available at train stations with a signaling control.

The Great Lakes DLC expansion out now!
Rail tycoons, its time to expand your empire into new and exciting territories. After heading south to Mexico for the first DLC, Kalypso Media is thrilled to announce that the next update for its ambitious strategy title takes players north into the wilds of Canada in Railway Empire: The Great Lakes.
Budding entrepreneurs will make their journey into the wilds of Canada circa 1860, a country dominated by forest and tundra and where only a few sparsely populated settlements have managed to develop into larger towns.
In order to further extend their rail empire, players must bridge the distance between the British colonies and reach economic independence by creating an effective infrastructure for the Great Lakes region in the all new scenario ‘Dominion Day’, spanning 1860-1880.
Heading into Canada offers its own new challenges to players, as a new enhanced weather system has been implemented for all northern regions.
However, this also allows for new tradeable goods such as fur and winter clothing to be transported to the 19 new cities on the Great Lakes map extension as you take stock of two new engines, Achilles (0-4-0) and Canadian (2-8-0) , both only available in this DLC.
Railway Empire: The Great Lakes is available now on PC!
In addition, as part of Railway Empire’s ongoing development, the game has just been updated to version 1.5, which introduces a new warehouse feature for supplying cities more easily and with less congestion on your network, as well as a range of other fixes and improvements.
The latest development roadmap also shows, what comes next:
https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/27917769/57da86e83c909dc7cc9e67cb330240566737133c.jpg
New features
- Placing warehouses near cities or rural businesses will open new possibilities in transport.
- Explanation: Warehouses receive a radius of influence like train stations. If the user sets up a warehouse close enough to a city or a rural business, a connecting line between the warehouse and the city/business is displayed, as in the case of train stations. After placing the warehouse, it will be connected to the city/business. Warehouses close to cities or rural businesses then exchange goods with each other automatically. As a result, cities can be supplied easier and with less congestion!
- Also new, is a filter that has been added for the “Replace locomotives” dialog in the engine shed. It is now possible to replace locomotives based on station type (city, rural).
- The in-game Tips & Tricks ’Transport Business’ section now features information regarding the reworked warehouses.
Bugfixes
- We have fixed a bug while constructing crossings.
- Additionally, we have corrected some AI problems in complex track laying mode.
- In the Mexico region, we have fixed passenger wagons in the 100 years scenario that were not properly changing appearance when shifting into new eras.
Tycoons!
With your ongoing support, in this case especially big thanks to our community-member Rishu, we were able to enhance savegame-stability.
Therefore, we have applied a little hotfix that enhances savegame-stability and prevents corrupted/broken savegames as well as possible crashes.
Please keep it up!

- As warehouses will now get supplied by surrounded farms and businesses, players will have more possibilities to get those supplies to other cities.

New addition
Legacy branch Ever since the launch of the original beta, we’ve been working hard to bring a stack of improvements and additions to Railway Empire, such as enhanced AI, crossings, balancing, a random map generator, the full Transcontinental map, 100-year tech tree, and much more. And there’s still more to come, and we promise to deliver even more content and improvements in the future. However, all these changes are also affecting the core of the game: the code. According to recent reports, some of these changes may have an effect on save games. For example, we recently had reports about an issue with random maps. For that reason, to protect your saved games and previous content (in case of incompatibility with current and future updates), we are introducing a new build called the Legacy branch, which will allow you to boot up an older version of the game to ensure that whatever we add to the main game, you can still access your old saved games. How to enter the Legacy branch 1. Go to your Steam library 2. Right-click Railway Empire 3. Select Properties 4. Select the "Betas" section 5. Select "Legacy" from the drop-down menu 6. Steam should automatically start the download To opt out from the Legacy branch, just repeat the steps above and select "NONE" in step 5.
Features
AI opponents are now able to use the complex track system. The AI can now make use of signals and multi-tracks, when the player selects the realistic track-building mode in the game settings. In realistic mode, the AI usually builds two parallel tracks – one for each direction. They will also make use of signals and crossings. Players can select the track-system for the AI in the game settings. So there are now three modes that you can now choose from:
- “Realistic” - Both the player and the AI use the realistic track-building system.
- “Normal” - Both the player and the AI use the simple track-building system, where trains can pass through each other.
- “Normal AI” - The player uses realistic track-building, but the AI uses the normal (ie. Simple) track-building system. Hint: Players that are looking for the greatest challenge should use the “Normal AI” setting and “Very Hard” difficulty.
Adjustments/Additions
- Fixed several issues related to random maps, by changing the way that random maps are created in the first place.
- Disclaimer: Because of this change, and the other improvements that have been made in favor of the enhanced AI and crossings, there is a chance that old save games before update 1.4 may be corrupted and in rare cases, might even be broken. If you want to continue playing your version 1.3 random map save games, you can do so on the newly introduced Legacy branch.
- Added an "Undo" button to the "Set up rail line" options.
- Added "Track utilization" to the "Edit station" screen.
- Based on community feedback, new rails will now snap into a parallel position at the end of existing tracks.
On June 8th 2018, the ‘Mexico’ DLC will extend your railway experience from the arid northern regions all the way to the dense jungles in the south of Mexico.
The new content will be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, and brings you a new scenario (Viva Mexico! – 1873-1893), the Mexico map (playable in Free Game and Sandbox modes), additional goods, 24 new cities and two new locomotives. As a special treat, the DLC also introduces a new night mode, letting you explore the world of Railway Empire in a whole new light.

Enginemen and -women, today Gaming Minds Studios have updated the Dev-blog:
A lot of work went into AI enhancements lately, not only the obvious change, that the AI is now able to use a complex track layout. For example, we enabled the AI to run routes that are more efficient and worked on the AIs priorities when it comes to connecting cities and farms. All those small overall tweaks should make the AI a more able competition in mid and late game, so please let us know what you think. The second big change released in the last beta update was the implementation of rail crossings. On the surface, it might not seem much, but we had to make many changes in the underlying structure. Therefore, in the last weeks we had to spend quite some time cleaning up behind ourselves and polishing this feature. As a result, crossings work more reliable and with newly added markers are easier to build. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1397571516 ːchooːːchooooːːchooooːːchooooːːchooooːːchooooːːchooooːːchooooːːchoooː
Source: https://steamcommunity.com/app/503940/discussions/0/1693788202022056425/

Thanks to the continued feedback from our dedicated beta testers, significant improvements have been in the recent months leading up to the full release of Railway Empire. Here are some of the most important changes so far:
Tutorial revision
The boss of the legendary Union Pacific Railroad, Thomas C. Durant, may be a mastermind tycoon, but his teaching skills in the original tutorial evidently left much to be desired among our beta testers. As a result, we sent our railway expert to back to basic training and developed a completely new tutorial, which now offers much more help and guidance as you take your first tentative in the world of Railway Empire.
Pause functions
Even the most successful of tycoons needs to take a break every now and then! But big business waits for no one, and with that in mind we have implemented three distinct pause modes, available for selection before you begin a game:
- Trainiac (pausing is not possible, but you will receive a bonus to your final score)
- Normal (game pauses during dialogs and events, with no effect on your final score)
- Manual (game can be paused at any time, with a penalty to your final score)
Authentic sounds
Not only are Railway Empire’s 41 locomotives astonishingly detailed from a visual standpoint, but they also feature highly authentic sounds to enhance the tycoon experience and sense of immersion. All locomotives now have individual, authentic sound kits that bring the trains vividly to life.
American measurement system
As your fledgling business grows, you’re going to want to measure it – in a literal and figurative sense! And after consulting with our beta testers, the preference was clear – if we’re in America, then we need to measure like the Americans do! So now, all players can choose between Metric or American measuring systems in the options menu.
Height adjustments for tracks
As well as being able to decide whether to build your rail network in miles or metres, you can now adjust the height of your tracks as well! Will you design your tracks with efficiency in mind, or will you dive into sandbox mode and make something that might look more at home in a rollercoaster game? The choice is yours!
Bug fixing and performance improvements
No one wants obstructions on the track! To keep those trains get rolling, the development team behind Railway Empire has been working hard on overall performance and balancing throughout the beta.

In Railway Empire, you will create an elaborate and wide-ranging rail network, purchase over 40 different trains modelled in extraordinary detail, and buy or build railway stations, maintenance buildings, factories and tourist attractions to keep your travel network ahead of the competition. You’ll also need to hire and manage your workforce if you want to ensure an efficient train service, whilst also develop over 300 technologies ranging from mechanical improvements to the trains themselves to workplace infrastructures and advanced amenities as you progress through five eras of technological innovations.
However, you can’t just build and research your way to the top – the competition never sleeps, and to keep your business on track you’ll have to survive against up to three rival tycoons. To get to the top you may have to resort to more cutthroat tactics as you attack and sabotage your opponents through raids and industrial espionage.
