Celebrate 10 years of development on Stone Story RPG!
Thank you for 10 incredible years of support for Stone Story RPG! This weekend we want to celebrate a (belated) birthday for SSRPG, which started development on July 29th, 2014. Were so grateful for everyone whos played the game, learned stonescript, and made incredible ASCII art and animations. Come celebrate with us!
Celebrate our 10th Anniversary with a trove of loot from now until August 18. Like previous events, youll complete in-game objectives to earn points that move you along the reward track. We want to celebrate with you, so weve added even more rewards!
In this update were also adding The Beastiary to the game. Thank you to our community for naming it and helping with its design!
Wed like to do a special shoutout to Incoherent Toast, who created the first version of the Beastiary during Stone Jam 6. (Link) Toast has been a longtime valued community member and is now even part of the open-source initiative. The Beastiary has been one of our most requested features; we hope you enjoy filling it out! All players will receive it upon updating the game.
In this update, leaderboards have also been reset. Can you make it back to the top?
Let's take a look back at the past 10 years of SSRPG's development:
Stone Story RPG began as the brainchild of creator and lead developer, standardcombo. With years of experience in mobile gaming and animation, he blended the two with a heavy dash of Candy Box to create a unique ASCII art incremental game. Development communication at this time was largely on the TIGS forums as the games many systems were iterated and polished. Check out standardcombos previous ASCII game, Pyramid Builder! Much of the core visual design to Stone Story was defined here. (Link)
After 5 years of development, the game launched into Early Access on August 8, 2019. The game was out, but the project was far from over. Stone Story RPG has continued to receive major content updates, seasonal events, and further polishing. [previewyoutube=7dUyz29cizI;full][/previewyoutube]
Stone Story released to quite a positive reception! Players were intrigued by the text-based animation, the hauntingly hypnotic soundtrack, and the deceptively simple gameplay. The team was humbled to be considered for various awards, traveling to Tokyo where it won four indie awards at Tokyo Game Show, as well as the UK where it won Best RPG at the TIGA Games Industry Awards.
The next few years saw bugfixes, balance patches, and new content updates like adding the quest system in the Quest Update and upping the games difficulty in the Yellow Update.
After a few years on PC, the game received F2P mobile ports; first on Android then on iOS. This greatly boosted the games reach all across the world! Were still growing and doing our best to make the best game for as many players as possible.
Stone Story RPG is far from over. Weve got a lot of plates spinning right now, like the animated trailer, Green Difficulty, Part 2, and a whole lot of other stuff were not ready to share just yet! Weve hit every milestone for our 2024 roadmap and plan to do the same for 2025!
We cant wait to finally reveal everything weve been planning and working on. Until then, thank you as always for your continued support. -SSRPG Team [url=https://twitter.com/StoneStoryRPG] Stone Story RPG Twitter Stone Story RPG Discord

In a realm of perpetual evil, a single stone could change everything.
Stone Story is an RPG set in a dark and vile world. The game's fluid ascii art is painstakingly animated in plain text by a single insane game developer. The game has been in development since 2014 and is presently in closed beta testing. It features 8 locations to explore, 8 boss fights, mind-blowing ascii cutscenes and plenty of loot to discover.
The casual play contrasts with the retro visuals, providing a unique experience that blends nostalgia with modern design principles. One of the game's defining mechanics is that you have no direct control of the player character. You choose what items to equip, which location to visit and relax while an artificial intelligence does all the exploring, combat and looting. That doesn't mean this is an idle game. Potions and special abilities are maximized by good timing. Boss fights are intense and can keep you at the edge of your seat, requiring quick item swaps if the boss changes patterns. Additionally, an item crafting system allows you to combine otherwise disposable items--rewarding experimentation, giving you interesting choices and making full use of all the gathered loot.
Initial language support is English, Portuguese and Chinese. Further localization will be added based on regional demand.
