I find myself in something of a hate-hate relationship with all things tutorial. Sure you need to convey some information but in-game tutorials, despite being the norm, are a terrible way of doing it. Sometimes the “tutorial section” seem to be roughly 50% of the game. In the olden days rather than a tutorial level, the inlay/booklet was instead full of vitally important information that could not even be contained in-game due to space constraints. This moved on to a box full of novelty gimmicks (which was great) and ended up at the state we are in now with a box containing mostly advertising and a somewhat useless disk. We would love to produce a small booklet to go with our game, maybe a cloth map full of hints and tips that doubles as a tea towel and a small bronze signet ring to give the box that all important rattle. However that’s not really how the world works anymore and the amount of people we would be able to deliver to would be so small that we would only be doing it for the love of art. So our simple alternative plan is to use the youtubes and produce a series of videos explaining everything you could possibly want to know and probably TMI about every single feature and level. So far we are upto level 50 of 100. I’ve added them to le’Steam so they should now be easy to find under the community video tag and I’d recommend checking some out, especially if you feel our lack of in-game toots to be disturbing.
