How do I play for free?

Hey party animals! In an upcoming update, we're going to change how invite codes for players' lobbies work in Ultimate Chicken Horse. Currently, your invite code stays the same no matter what. In the upcoming update (a few weeks from now), you'll have the ability to generate a new invite code every time you host a lobby, or save your invite code so that it stays the same between games. Right now, you can SAVE your current invite code if you like it and want to keep it. Otherwise, this invite code will be WIPED once the update comes out. But if you don't care about your lobby code, there's no action to take.

Hi everyone, there's an issue with crossplay between PC and consoles! However, there is a temporary solution, so please read below! We just released a new update on Steam/PC to fix various server issues, including a serious connection bug for players in Korea. Crossplay was impacted because our console platforms have not yet received the same update, creating a game version mismatch. Thankfully, there's a solution if you really want to play together with your console pals!

We're asking you to make challenge/party levels inspired by Earth, nature, the four elements, space, or anything else you love about our planet! Submit your Halloween levels in halloween-level-submissions by Oct 25th, 10:00 am EST and we'll feature up to 15 of them in the following weeks. Here are a couple of prompts to spark your creative juices:

Ultimate Chicken Horse version 1.9.02 is now Live!

• Extremely new content (levels, votes, challenge times) may be lost if they were posted between the last time we grabbed data and now. We'll work to retrieve that if we can. We should be able to at least retrieve the newest levels in the coming days.
• Many older uploaded levels will be missing. Due to technical constraints, we weren't able to migrate every single level that had ever been uploaded. We've managed to migrate over 200,000 levels that were either popular or created in the last year. You can use the "My Levels" filter to see which of your published levels made it over. If any of your levels seem to be missing but you still have a local copy saved, feel free to publish it again!
• Almost all of the data besides uploaded levels should be present and visible. This includes level statistics, high scores and your personal bests. Note that in places where a username is shown, if the associated user comes from data that was migrated the display name will be whatever it was at that time and may not update if that same user changes their display name in the future.

Patch Notes

• Added crossplay with Xbox. All platforms can now play together!
• Replaced the GameSparks server solution with BrainCloud, this now handles all player authentication, level uploads, level bans, challenge times, user bans, etc.
• Added "Tournament" as a preset. These rules were suggested to us by the community.
• Added new Farmhands, Syd (community manager) and SuperNimbus (team we worked with for server changes) to the credits

• Fixed animal icons navigating inventory sometimes lose their costumes
• Characters dance sound continues when jumping directly from dance
• Lots of bug fixes involving the changes that were made to the servers

Hello! Our patch is coming out shortly (this Tuesday) and we have lots of info to throw your way! The patchs purpose is to move servers and tweak some bugs. However, we're also not solidly sure what issues may appear while the levels are porting from new users from one server to the next, so we would advise the following during this transition period of 48 hours: - Dont make any new levels during this transition period! - Dont try to beat any high scores! - Dont upvote/downvote anything! In short: save your creativity/speedruns for two days later! Now, for the GOOD stuff: - Did someone ask for Xbox cross-play? Well, we heard you! Everyone is now able to play with everyone! But - It should be known that Xbox Gamertags are displayed as anonymous in leaderboards and results screens, this is normal and expected. This is due to Xboxs legal standards and set-up, not something on our end. - As a tiny gift to our lovely community, weve added a tournament rules preset [details here]. If you have any concerns/questions about the rules, thats something to chat about with the community as they were created upon request :) - Weve updated the credits! Thanks to everyone who has helped us since our last edit of them. - Because of all of the changes to the back-end, there have been some wonky things about challenge scores, users, etc. Please report anything you see! - There is a possibility that we might lose the ability to click on a player's score on a level in order to open up their profile on Steam. Hello Ultimate Animals! Winter is rapidly approaching for us in the Northern hemisphere, so were getting ready to celebrate the Holidays and the New Year. To do so, we would like to feature YOUR Winter-themed levels in Ultimate Chicken Horse at the end of December! Hello, Ultimate Animals! As the longest year in our mortal existence comes to an end, the time has come to celebrate with the 2020 edition of the Steam Awards! Most of the awards are (rightfully) dedicated to games that came out this past year, with the unique exception of the Labor of Love Award. That one is reserved for games that have been out for a while now, but which the devs continue to nurture and support. Though it feels like a lifetime ago now, our big A-cobra-tic Update came out in March this year, on the 4th anniversary of the game. If you have enjoyed this update, we'd ask you to consider nominating Ultimate Chicken Horse for the Labor of Love Award! Hello Ultimate Animals! Did you see that you can nominate games for the Steam Awards during the Autumn Sale? Most awards are reserved for games that came out in the past year, but there's one important exception: the Labor of Love Award. Here's the description: "This game has been out for a while. Hey Ultimate Animals! We don't know if you've heard, but Steam has rolled out a Beta feature that allows you to play your favorite local multiplayer games... online! What this means is that you can easily connect with your Steam friends to play games as if they were sitting right next to you. And this feature works with Ultimate Chicken Horse! What's the difference with regular online play in Ultimate Chicken Horse? Mainly it's this: You only need one copy of the game to play with up to three of your online friends. The Beta feature arrived on October 21st, but since late last week it was made available to every Steam user, so it's easier for everyone to access it. The newest update to Ultimate Chicken Horse comes with a ton of changes and the online portion of the game is now out of Beta! You can hear all about the new changes in this video.
It's time to grab your copy of UCH and play online with friends or join the vibrant community; there are always several matches available online for you to join, and the new updated lobby shows you the best matches possible based on skill, connection quality, and other factors. We've also added Twitch integration, where Twitch streamers can have their audience vote on which blocks will appear in the Party Box. Once the chosen platform is placed, the names of the people who voted will pop out of it. Next up is a new level, the Pier!
This level features a giant wave that the players need to run away from... don't get caught underneath! The level makes for an interesting dynamic when players have to place obstacles on the path with the added pressure of constantly needing to move forward quickly. Our newest block added to the game is a punching plant which gets angry when you come near it, then punches out in a fit of flowery rage a second later. If you get caught in its range, you may regret it.

It's the Steam Summer Sale!!! With it, Ultimate Chicken Horse has gotten some major online updates: there's no more "Beta branch" for online play, we've improved connectivity, added clearer messaging, and generally improved the whole online experience to make it much more playable. We are still keeping the online mode labeled as "Beta" because we will be constantly updating it, improving it and fixing the remaining bugs. You can check the full Update Log for a full list of improvements. In this update, we're also including a bit of a preview for new content to come! We've added a new block, the horizontal moving block, which should open up a whole new world of possibilities of movement, placement and screwing with your friends:
We're planning on rolling out more content once the online Beta is out of Beta, but we wanted to give you a quick tease. Last but certainly not least, we're announcing the official UCH soundtrack with a great new bundle!
The soundtrack was made by the amazingly talented Vibe Avenue, contains 12 tracks and over 40 minutes of sweet tunes. It also features live instruments: trumpets, saxophones, flutes, whistles, banjos, guitars, harmonica and more!

Hello everyone! It's been a while since our last announcement, where we mentioned that the online beta would be coming soon. Well, we've got good news for you! It's actually been out for a little while, but previously people had been having issues connecting and had been experiencing game-breaking bugs. This announcement brings some important changes :)

Online Improvements

• No more need for port forwarding
• Scoring system works properly and games end at the right time

Next Steps?

Ultimate Chicken Horse will be launching with a fully stable, relatively bug-free local version (in the main branch) and with online multiplayer coming to the beta branch extremely soon. This was a stretch goal that we just barely didn't reach during our Kickstarter campaign, but we decided to do it anyway because we knew people would appreciate it and we knew that it would help us make the game as awesome as it deserves to be.
