While you are in a square area, your weapons receives a higher rate of fire. Otherwise, the rate of fire is reduced and time stops and kills stops counting in outside of square. Just stay in the box and everything will be fine. In case of lose, your points will also be published in a global leaderboard. As the time decreases, enemies appear more abruptly and the area of ​​the square expands, thereby allowing you to better control the situation and overcome more powerful enemies.
