Update 1.3.4 - anniversary edition

Greetings, friends!

Wow, time really flies... Exactly two years ago at around 6PM I pushed that magical green 'Release now' button on Steam, starting Zniw's big Adventure in the land of Polisemia. The rest is, as they say, history...
Can't believe it's already the second release anniversary of Zniw Adventure! Or its second hatchday if you prefer! Hope you have your shiny pebbles ready!

That's also why we've decided to gather all the feedback people shared with us over at our support channel for the last couple of weeks, and make the game even better with an update - and just in time for the release anniversary! So let's celebrate by going through the changelog, shall we?

  • several English script typos fixed.
  • one image pop-up in Chief's Apartment had some incorrect transparent pixels, and was fixed.
  • one image pop-up in Jaw Mountain Summit linked to an incorrect image ID, and has been fixed.
  • entering either the sound test or FMV viewer from in-game Extras corrupted the sprite of the first dropped item on the screen (if there was one present). Fortunately it was purely cosmetical, as attempting to pick it up reverted it back to the valid graphic, but it was still annoying having to click the item twice.

But hold on, that's more! While we're here, we'd like to remind you about Zid Journey, in case you missed the news - our second game in the Zid and Zniw Chronicles series is currently on Kickstarter, plus you can try out the demo version as well!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1814690/Zid_Journey/

What's more, we've already surpassed 200% of our initial goal, and there's still 10 days to go!!

It's absolutely crazy to think that after a mere 2 years we already have a second part in the works, and even a Kickstarter campaign with a playable demo - but it's true, and it's all thanks to your lovely support! We just couldn't have a better second release anniversary than this!

---
That's all we wanted to share with you today! Stay tuned for more news in the future - see you and until next update, friends!

A very Journey-ous sale

Greetings friends!

Now you might be asking yourself "oh what's this sudden sale about?" and the answer's pretty simple - we need to properly celebrate, as the Kickstarter campaign and demo version of the second game in Zid and Zniw Chronicles series - Zid Journey - is now live!

In 2020 you went on an Adventure with Zniw, and found a perfect gift for your mother's hatchday, while also saving a neighbouring village from some major trouble.
Join Zid, the second character of the duo, this time around - a young Woodroamer from Magmosia, as he tries to reunite a Daspletosaurus hatchling with its lost parents, while also uncovering his own mysterious origins! Start your own Journey today by trying the free demo, available on all systems! (Windows, Linux/Steam Deck, MacOS)

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1814690/Zid_Journey/

And since both Zniw Adventure and Zid Journey happen in the same world and timeframe - if you still haven't, you can join Zniw on her Adventure right away too! Zniw Adventure is available for 15% off until October 29th!

Thanks so much for all your support once again! Let's make this new Journey a grand one!

Update 1.3.3

Greetings, friends!

Today marks a rather special occassion, as exactly one year ago, on March 15th our dinosaur Twitter acount went live! Man, a year already... Time really does fly, huh?

And now, 2479 tweets and lots of love later, we decided it would be a perfect opportunity to update the game to version 1.3.3 as well, since we've gathered a few fixes over the past few weeks! So, what's new in the newest version? Mostly text changes and updates, as while fixing one issue, we've noticed one peculiar thing...

  • due to a code oversight, the cursor state wasn't updated after the pebble throwing window in Undercave when the "keep cursor item" option was selected in the options, and had to be manually cleared with a right-click. The issue has been now fixed, and the cursor always reverts to a default one.
  • one message box in Residential Wall was not displayed correctly, and was fixed.
  • changed one message in the beginning of Scattered Woods, so it will be even more clear what to do next.
  • due to another oversight (...the joy of being an indie dev!), several text messages in various points of the game were omitted from the final script. All of them have been restored in 1.3.3 (several messages in Scattered Woods, Fungilla and the late-game section in Residential Wall/Fungilla at night).

--

Phew, that's a lot of text fixes, eh? Hopefully all of them will make the game even more enjoyable for you! And while we're at it, that's all of the little things we wanted to share with you today. As always, remember you're always welcome to join our Discord community, or follow our aforementioned Twitter acount! Remember to give some wishlist love for our pal Zid, the star of our upcoming game, too!

And in the meantime... stay tuned for more news in the future - see you and until next update, friends!

Greetings, friends!

Today's update is a particularly excting one, as we have some surprises for you - and especially exciting if you missed the big news! What news, you may ask? All in due time, my friend! For now let's go over the changelog of improvements or bugfixes of version 1.3.2, that will make the game even more enjoyable!

  • Several small typo fixes in English and Polish script.
  • Fixed a very rare timing bug, that could potentially crash the game during the credits scroll.
  • One of the messages in the Fungilla forest (during the mammal catching sequence) was not displaying correctly, and was fixed.
  • Added three small changes to Fungilla puzzles (the pillow, the secret alley and the tunnel), to make them a bit easier to figure out.
  • The tunnel on the thief's map is now correctly highlighted in red.

Now what are the little surprises I told you about before...? Well, for starters, the manual and reference card are now available from the Steam store page as well, meaning you can check them out before you even buy the game!

Update 1.3.1

Greetings, friends!

Today's a rather special update, because we don't have much to show in terms of actual improvements or bugfixes (all of them are either small typo fixes, and, in one case, a removal of an unnecessary hotspot in one of Undercave tunnels), yet we have several things to show you, as we've been busy for the past weeks!

Now, first of all, do you like cards...?

You do? That's excellent, because I'm proud to announce Zniw Adventue Steam Trading Cards are now live! A pack of seven cards, badges and several goodies (three ZA Steam wallpapers and seven emotes) await all of the prehistoric adventurers! Each card has a unique full-size graphic as well!

But wait, that's not all!

We've also decided to post a Steam version of our 100% spoiler-free walkthrough! It includes both location maps, several screenshots for more tricky parts, information for achievements and shiny pebbles, as well as some fun stuff to do and optional game lore to learn you might've missed!

If you ever get stuck, or would just like to know more about the game, head over to the Guides page on our Community Hub and have a read yourself!

--
Alright, and that's all the news we wanted to share with you today. We hope you will continue to have fun in our prehistoric land of Polisemia, and for the meantime - see you and until next update, friends!

Update 1.3.0

Greetings, friends!

I just noticed it's been over a month since the last update. Worry not - we've definitely been busy with cooking up something extra delicious. If you follow us on Twitter (and you really should, we'd love to see you there!), you most likely know what's coming, but if you're not, let me just drop the biggest news without any ado:

That's right! Update 1.3.0 introduces Zniw Adventure to the owners of Apple computers - the game is now available for all Intel-based 64-bit Mac machines! And if you've already bought the Windows/Linux version, you can now download it on your MacOS computer as well! Naturally the manual and reference card is also included, you can find them in the game's local files:

But wait, that's not all! As always we also fixed a bit of things, and introduced some quality of life improvements to make the game even better! So let's go through the changelog, shall we?

  • Several small fixes to the English and Polish script.
  • The intro cutscene is now skippable in new game plus.
  • Fixed a very rare crash that could potentially happen during the second cutscene of the outro.
  • One of the messages in the Fungilla forest (during the mammal catching sequence) was a bit misleading, and was changed.
  • The eye animation on the Fungilla's Pharmacy door was mistakenly left as a clickable object. It's properly set as a non-clickable one now.
  • When giving the hot sauce to the healer in Fungilla, the cursor was not updated properly after the dialogue if the active item mode was set to "stay on cursor". This visual oversight has been fixed.
  • Immediately clicking on the window after arriving on Fungilla rooftops for the first time made some speech bubbles appear in wrong places during the cutscene. The placement has been fixed.

--
Whew, and that's all of the updates we wanted to share with you today. Stay tuned for more nice goodies in the future - see you and until next update, friends!

Update 1.2.2

Greetings, friends!

Wow, would look at that, the March is already ending! Time definitely flies, eh? In any case, we decided it's about time to introduce yet another minor update to our dinosaur adventure, fixing some of the issues our brave Discord community managed to catch in the last weeks! We're really flattered people like the game so much, they still contact us with all those little pesky details - thanks so much, everyone! Your continous support is always appreciated!

As always - without any further ado, let's go through the changelog! Any spoilers will be marked appropriately:

  • small typo fixes in the English and Polish script,
  • while trying to get the final shiny pebble in Jaw Mountain, the camera was locked on the current viewport, until Zniw went down after the pebble to the forest path. This issue was fixed, so now Zniw can walk around the forest clearing freely after bashing the pebble with a rock, without having to change screens,

(hover on the spoiler above to see the picture)
  • if you took the trashbag from your backpack, and dismissed the message with the right mouse button, instead of the usual left one, the trashbag got duplicated in your inventory, appearing in both the main view, as well as a side item. This bug was purely visual though, it didn't affect the trashbag mechanics, or the shiny pebble side quest.

(hover on the spoiler above to see the picture)
  • if you had the 'item stays on cursor' option toggled, and clicked the bolt in the prison with axe as an active item, the axe cursor stayed visible through the dialogue with Agu. This small visual oversight was fixed too,
  • if you got the summit pebble in your first playthrough, and decided to get it again in new game plus, it erroneously counted it again, rather than treat it as an already gathered pebble. Sorry guys - there's no super secret 101% ending with 28 pebbles, it was just a small programming oversight.

And that's all for fixes in version 1.2.2. But hold on, we're not done just yet! In case you missed it - we have recently launched our dedicated Zid and Zniw Twitter account!

If you have a Twitter account, definitely consider giving us a follow for more updates, art content, dino facts or interesting trivia - we'd absolutely love to see you there!

--
And NOW we're done with this update, phew! As again - thanks so much for sticking with us! See you and until next update!

Update 1.2.1 - the community edition

Greetings, friends!

The February is here, and so is the new lunar year! We figured out it's a perfect time to prepare yet another minor update to our dinosaur adventure, fixing some issues that popped up recently. This update is actually rather special, as all of the bugfixes below came from our lovely community, both on our Discord server, as well as from streamers who decided to give our game a go! Thank you so much for your continous support, everyone!

Now then, without further ado, let's go through the changelog! Beware of the spoilers if you still haven't finished the game!

  • several small typo fixes, mostly in the English script,
  • there was a very specific oversight you could trigger in the lake of Fungilla. If you took the fishing rod, and then talked to Pentaceratops about the trash bags, the game would hang after you decided to head back to the lake and tried to return the fishing rod. This issue was fixed, and now Pentaceratops will actually remind Zniw to leave the fishing rod behind before venturing onwards,

(hover on the spoiler above to see the picture)

  • one erroneously placed hotspot in Residential Wall has been removed,
  • if Bartholomew the Orodromeus and the mammal were on specific positions in the Residential Wall, using any item on the mammal would result in this amusing outcome:

(hover on the spoiler above to see the picture)

This bug however was purely visual, and didn't impact the story progress, or the pebble task. Nevertheless it was fixed in this version.

And that's all the little things we patched up in this version and wanted to share with you! And while we're on the topic of community, did you know you can vote for Zniw Adventure in the Aggies 2020 Readers' Choice Awards hosted by Adventure Gamers? If you enjoyed our dinosaur journey, consider dropping a vote for ZA in some of the categories!

--

Well, we've come to an end of this update! Thanks so much for sticking with us! Take care and until next time, friends!

Zniw Adventure 1.2.0 update (the BAE 2021 edition)

Greetings, friends!

I hope my message finds you well, and everything is going smoothly for all of you in 2021. As you might have already noticed, Zniw Adventure is participating in The Big Adventure Event, among many other excellent adventure titles, so we figured out it's the perfect time for the 1.2.0 version! Hopefully this update will put at least a little smile on your face because, just like in the 1.1.0 update, apart from the usual fixes and improvements we also prepared a little gift for you! But first thing's first - let's go over the changelog now! As always - beware of the spoilers below!

  • Two small typos were fixed in the Polish manual.
  • A small side note was added to the Lambeosaurus and Parasaurolophus encyclopedia page to highlight the design change due to the 2019 paleonthologic discoveries.
  • The mini-map of Fungilla had a very minor graphical oversight (incorrect colour of several pixels), which was fixed.
  • Small modifications to the speech bubbles during the outro cutscene, as two of them were displaying with an incorrect sub-class.
  • mall improvements to the inventory items - since some of them are not used ever again after certain events, they're now automatically removed from your inventory after specific actions:
-the brown cycas cone is removed after Zniw gets to Rivenn-na for the first time,
-the hot sauce bottle is put away after Zniw manages to enter the Residential Wall,
-the axe breaks and is removed after cutting the line that holds the door to the storage.

And now it's time for the little gift I promised, right? Well then, without further ado, here's our little surprise: the complete Zniw Adventure OST is now available as a free DLC!

Many people have asked as whether we have any plans of releasing the game's OST, to which we can finally reply - of course! This pack contains all 23 tracks from the game, including the main sountrack by Denis 'Problem' Comtesse, as well as chiptunes from the minigames, created by Kamil 'Pator' Patecki and Karolina 'Twarda' Twardosz! What's more - both the MP3 and FLAC tracks are included!
(you can find them by browsing the local data of the soundtrack folder)

Furthermore, you can also listen to the OST online, by going to the Denis' and Kamil's soundcloud! Please give a round of applause to these talented musicians, everyone!

Zniw Adventure OST by Denis Comtesse
Zniw Adventure minigame chiptunes by Kamil 'Pator' Patecki

-
And that's all what we wanted to share with you today. Hope you enjoy all the stuff we prepared for you in this update. Take care and until next time, friends!

Zniw Adventure 1.1.0 update

Greetings, friends!

First of all I'd like to wish you the happiest of Holidays! 2020 wasn't exactly what I would call a good year, so here's hoping for 2021 to be much better! We were very busy for the last couple of days to deliver a major update, and a little something extra for you to enjoy during the holidays. So without further ado, let's get to the changelog first! Beware the spoilers below!

* Updated the initial config files to the newest version.
* Fixed a very minor graphical bug, that didn't refresh one of the sprites in the Jaw Mountain summit, while entering the dead end path for the first time.
* One of the story FMVs had the skippable flag incorrectly set to true, and the cutscene could have been accidentally skipped with a key press. This has been fixed.
* Added several additional text boxes in some parts of the game, serving as a little hint about the game mechanics, or your quest progress.
* A quality of life improvement regarding the pharmacy and pantry pass handling - now you only need to show them once. After that they're removed from the inventory, but you can still access the pantry/pharmacy at any time, without having to show the pass each and every time. The pantry entrance becomes a clickable hotspot, while you can enter the pharmacy by merely knocking on the door. This change both applies to new and existing saves!

(Spoiler screenshot above, hover on the tag to display)

But wait, that's not all! Oh no, we're not done just yet! Here comes the star of this update...

That's right! Located within the Steam launcher/game data folder is a colourful, 41-pages digital manual in PDF format, explaining all of the game mechanics in detail, as well as further expanding the lore a bit! Treat it as a little early Christmas gift from me and Twarda. ;)

You can access it from the Steam launcher (Windows only), or from the local game data directory (both Windows and Linux):

That's it for now, hope you enjoyed today's update! Stay tuned for more and see you all in 2021!

Cheers,
Kurasiu

Zniw Adventure v1.0.4 update
Greetings, friends!
Just in time for the first month anniversary of releasing Zniw Adventure, we've prepared a special (and major) 1.0.4 update, featuring several bugfixes and quality of life improvements, to make your prehistoric adventure even more enjoyable! The last month has been a crazy ride for us, but one thing's for certain - we're extremely glad for all the positive feedback and reviews we've received! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for every message, Discord DM, email and tweet - we're absolutely ecstatic so many of you liked our little dinosaur adventure!
However, at the same time, we also listened to the things you thought could be done better (or were simply missing), so we considered these, as well, while making all of the changes below.
Now then, without any further ado, let's check out the changelog! And don't worry about your old saved games - they're intact, and have all of the features listed below too!
(spoilers below, so watch your step!)
* Several small typos in both English and Polish script were fixed.

* Added explicit information in the reference card PDF documents about the doubleclick operation, since some people missed the fact you can doubleclick with the left mouse button to move Zniw twice as fast.

* A very minor part of the scenery was missing on the alley rooftops in Fungilla during the night part. It has been added in this update.

* Fixed a very rare bug, which prevented the player from talking about the hot mushroom sauce with the pharmacy owner, after finding the thief's notebook and checking the food bowl. All of the affected saves will be fixed too - simply check the Triceratops' food bowl again and talk with the pharmacy owner, while having the notebook in your backpack.

* The outro cutscene from the FMV player was not played properly when viewed from the main menu/extras section. It has been fixed in this update.

* Small quality of life improvements in certain parts of the game: these apply to both new games and existing saves, so don't be surprised when you see some changes in your old saved game!

- for convenience, the flint/pyrite and the torch were merged into one item (and will merge automatically if you already have both in your backpack), after you successfully manage to create a torch in the Undercave. You can still use the special verbcoin action/GUI icon to light and extinguish it.

- the single twig in the Undercave has been made a bit more visible.

- four little icons have been added to Fungilla mini-map, to show all four indoor locations and help with navigation:

(hover on the spoiler tag below to reveal the picture)

- the pillow on the Fungilla farm has been made a bit more visible.

- the money purse has been removed from the inventory, and attached to the backpack itself, since it didn't really serve much of a purpose, as you can buy the items with the "take/use" command. The amount of shells is now displayed next to the item list on the backpack view, where the money purse is attached.

(hover on the spoiler tag below to reveal the picture)

- The pickaxe will break once you use it on the rock formation in fungi path, so you can immediately acquire the blue mushroom, even when your backpack was full prior to that. Remember about it if you're planning to get all of the secret pebbles in Fungilla, wink wink.

- Zniw can now take the notebook from the thief's hideout even with the full backpack, since she automatically leaves the thief's cape on his pile of loot upon picking up the notebook.

--

That's it for today! Thanks for your patience, and until next time, friends! We're preparing a little something we're hoping to deliver to you by the end of the year! And remember - if you wish to discuss some things, or would just like to have a friendly chat, feel free to join our little Discord server!

Cheers,
Twarda & Kurasiu
