Update 1.3.2 + Shipping Updates

Hey there Cutie Club,

We small update with some fixes and an update on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation shipping dates.

Nintendo Switch & PlayStation Shipping Updates

The shipping dates for both platforms slipped a little bit as we had a few bumps in the road going through final platform certification

Switch has been fully certified and has gone to manufacturing and shipping now. Were hoping for PlayStation to finish certification this week (1 annoying bug has been hard to squash) and it will go straight to manufacturing and shipping.

Update 1.3.2

We skipped 1.3.1 to combined everything into a 1.3.2 update. The update is mainly focused on bug fixes and performance improvements based on completing the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation versions of the game.

Improvements

 • A lot of performance improvements!
 • Hidden Power achievement now just requires a total level of 75
 • Shiny Shaver now just requires 10,000 crystals

Fixes

 • Fixed Caught Them All not unlocking through item effects
 • Fixed wild jellies unlocking the Hidden Power achievement
 • Fixed Jelly getting stuck transforming when trait decreases relic meter
 • Fixed hover texture issue on bottom HUD buttons
 • Fixed JellyQuickInfo not clearing on unfocus
 • Fixed birds getting stuck while landing

Hey there Cutie Club,

Jelly Codes

Want to share a Jelly with a friend? Weve introduced Jelly Codes a 32 character passcode for trading jellies.

Bring your Jelly to Gabby and she can take your Jelly and give you a code in return. If your friend gave you a code, Gabby can take that code and give you a Jelly in return.

Jelly Names

Many players wanted to give different names to Jellies. Weve now added a hotkey to rename your Jelly.

Permanent Jellies + Jelly Relics

We had a lot of requests from players who wanted to keep some of their Jellies forever. In this update, weve changed how the Jelly Relic system works to allow you to decide which Jellies will turn into relics.

Jellies will no longer automatically turn into relics as you feed them items. Instead, when their relic meter is full, the Jellies will sparkle. Playing your flute 3 times on a sparkling Jelly will turn them into a relic.

Jelly Traits

Now that the relic system has changed, we had to change how the trait system worked. Now when a Jelly trait activates, the relic meter will decrease.

We also had to update several traits to match these changes; so make sure to read your notebook.

Improvements

 • A lot of performance improvements!
 • Replace MonoGame with FNA on Xbox
 • Add rumble feedback on game controller
 • Add Jelly renaming and Jelly codes
 • Update Jelly relic & traits systems
 • Add Jelly relic tutorial for updated system
 • Jellies now sparkle at max relic meter
 • Focus new item on pickup when hotbar is empty
 • Sort notebook map waypoints based on Y position
 • Codex details unlock through gameplay
 • Display sad icon in notebook when over farm limit
 • Display sad icon in HUD when over farm limit
 • Improve item hover feedback in bag
 • Default to newest objective first in quest details
 • Default to sorted by title in Cutiepedia
 • Implement auto-pickup while running (hold action key)
 • Add cooldown timer to Friend Finder Activated notification
 • Show base item value in shop
 • Improved relic meter colors in quick info

Fixes

 • Fixed jelly abilities activating when sleeping
 • Fixed jelly balloon jitter
 • Fixed infinite alchemy combo in certain conditions
 • Fixed digest time label including speed modifier
 • Fixed competition hotkey showing B instead of X
 • Fixed precision loss in fade in/out effects on consoles

 • Fixed island texture positioning on title screen
 • Fixed jelly quick info stat bar overflowing in certain conditions

Update 1.2 is out now!

Hey there Cutie Club,

We have a lot of new features, improvements and fixes in our latest Update 1.2. Take a look

Jelly Color Breeding & Mixing

We have added in another 32 colours for our Jellies totaling a number of 64 colors!

Jelly colors will now combine if you breed different color jellies. Use Smooch Blooms to make two jellies fall in love and watch the color mixing unfold.

Also, each Jelly now will poop their retrospective colored jelly beans. So if you see some colored beans in the wild you might find a color you havent caught yet

Item Delivery Improvements

We have updated the Item Delivery schedule. You now have the whole season to complete all 4 deliveries at your own pace.

Once you complete an item delivery you can collect the reward and the following delivery item list will be available.

If you complete all 4 Item Deliveries for that season, Gabby will reward you with a Unique Item Dont worry if you have completed all 4 shipments for previous seasons before updating. You will be rewarded with the new Unique Items for those season(s) when you continue your save.

Wild Jelly Info

The first trait of a Wild Jelly will always appear when you charm them. Its also possible to see the other traits and stats of a Jelly before you catch them. But youll need a Jelly with a certain trait in your backpack for that

Improvements

 • Added Jelly color mixing when breeding jellies
 • Added an emote for Morning, Afternoon and Evening meal time
 • Added background to hotkeys
 • Added Dialogue for when player walks up to Wubba Temple for the very first time
 • Added storage waypoint for tracking shipment quests
 • Added unique reward for finishing all deliveries for a season for the first time.
 • Added tutorial arrow when Desmond is talking about alchemy stamina
 • Allow pass through NPCs when player is sprinting
 • Allow interrupting Jellies when they are singing by pressing Pet
 • Jellies will now hatch with egg shell hats
 • Delivery deadlines are now per season instead of per week. Up to 4 deliveries can be completed each season.
 • Made shipment tab consistent with storage display
 • Updated tutorial to teach player the quest tracking functionality
 • Increased quest map marker blink duration
 • Tracked quest will always animate in Notebook
 • Highlight highest opponent by default in competition window
 • Allow player to see first trait of wild jellies without friend finder trait
 • Updated Desmond dialog when discussing Item Shipments
 • Adjusted map marker for Bort Temple key

Fixes

 • Fixed jelly emotes not clearing when picked up and put into pouch while playing an emote
 • Fixed Space and Enter not working as select buttons in pause menu
 • Fixed issue with delivery quests being marked as completed if nothing was delivered
 • Fixed star items showing incorrect background before being completed

 • Fixed tutorial UI displays not updating position when resolution is changed
 • Fixed next/prev page hotkey placement
 • Fixed player marker not being centered
 • Fixed YebYeb and Bort Temples sometimes not unlocking as fast travel points correctly

Patch 1.1.1

Hey there Cutie Club,

We've pushed a small patch to Steam which fixes a rare bug where the poofening cutscene softlocked the game if a captured Jelly turned to a Relic at a specific time.

As always, if you find any issues or have suggestions/ideas, post in Steam Discussions or our Discord server. More big updates on the way :-)

[ 2022-01-07 23:12:59 CET ] [ Original post ]

Update 1.1 is out now!

This post originally appeared on alchemiccutie.com

Hey there Cutie Club!

We have a (little late) holiday gift for everyone today! Update 1.1 is out now on Steam & Xbox and includes a lot of new features, improvements and fixes!

Wimba Island Shrines

Shrines weren't challenging and didn't require players to do much besides feed jellies. Each shrine now requires relics of different shapes and colors.

The shapes and colors required change each season. Happy hunting!

Your progress for each shrine is displayed on the right side of your screen. But only for shrines you have found! And don't worry! You won't lose your progress by updating the game or changing seasons.

Competition Improvements

Competitions can now be entered in any season in the morning or afternoon. To enter, go to the competition grounds and use the sign with the trophy icon above it. You can bring a jelly or select one using the new competition popup.

This displays your opponent, how their skills compare to yours, and what prizes you can win. Progress is tracked per jelly, so you'll need to raise one that can go from rookie to grand champion in one go!

Weekly Delivery Improvements

You don't have to speak to Gabby to finish a weekly item delivery. The delivery can be completed by using the farm storage once the delivery deadline has passed.

We also added a notebook tab to help you track your item delivery progress.

Fast Travel

You can fast travel not only to the farm but also to temples that you have discovered. This will reduce backtracking when you just want to get somewhere instead of harvesting items or jellies on the way.

Fast travel by opening the Map tab of the notebook, then using the fast travel hotkey. You can then select which location to fast travel to. Fast travel now passes time based on how far you travel.

Keyboard Improvements

Keyboard hotkeys are now more consistent across every UI. We also made adjustments to the default keyboard control layout based on feedback with a focus on comfort during longer play sessions.

And more!

We've added over 40 fixes and improvements. Thank you for sticking with us and be sure to give us your feedback on our Discord server

Changelog

Improvements

 • Improve competitions with more challenging NPC AI
 • Improve keyboard hotkeys throughout UI
 • Improve competition rewards with more rare items

 • Camera will now pan to farm during poofening
 • Allow competitions to be started in any season and from the competition location instead of from NPCs
 • Gabby will come to farm to give shipment rewards if not collected from shop

Development Log #18 Looking Back Into Early Development

This blog post was originally posted on alchemiccutie.com

Hey there Cutie Club! Today we are taking a look into the past of Alchemic Cutie, many things have changed since development started a couple years back. We will look at the changes in the world, the color palet and some of the facelifts that Wimba Island has received through the years.

World Art
The world is one of the most obvious changes, since it affects everything, from the simplest of farmlands to the most intricate of forests. Its really easy to see how simply changing the colours gave a really different atmosphere to the Island, it went from a desaturated place, to a colourful and charming one.

Another big change to the world was the cleaning of the ground textures, making for a much cleaner and less distracting feeling when exploring the island.

World art from alpha

Current world art

Changes to world structures
Along with the colour changes, most of Wimba Islands structures received a revision, making them more suitable to the simple atmosphere of the island. Some of these structures are: buildings, trees, grass, fences and more. Some of these changes were made not only to suit the environment, but also to help with future modding options, allowing the community to create better and more suitable structures.

On the other hand, the overhaul given to the trees gives the player a better understanding of the surroundings, clearly stating where they can go and where they cannot.

Farmhouse from the Alpha.

Current farmhouse.

Alpha version forest.

Current forest, much denser, cleaner and defined.

Cliff Overhaul
While it might seem like a minor improvement, overhauling how the cliffsides are made gives a ton of options and flexibility to make multiple different shapes. At the same time, it reduces the amount of tiles used for every face of a cliff, which frees up spaces on the tileset for other environment tiles.

Alpha version cliff.

Current version.

Hear it from @vakerics, the artist himself
Sebastien made a video talking much more in depth about the changes mentioned above, make sure to take a look, specially if you plan making something like this on your own, since he gives some insight and reasoning behind them.

[previewyoutube=ZPm_0p2Kd5A;full][/previewyoutube]

Whats next?
The team continues to work hard with the quests, turns out there are more of them than what we thought!

Development Log #17 Cute Jelly Competitions!

This post was originally posted on alchemiccutie.com

Hey there Cutie Club! We are pumped to share the Jelly Competition update, the perfect way to test your Jellys abilities and endurance. Make them break a sweat and compete for cool awards, but keep in mind, other Wimba Island neighbours may try to compete too!

Competitions are Season-tied events, winter related competitions will not be available during the summer, and will be held only during certain days, so make sure to plan ahead!

During the competitions Jellies will get very hungry, so keep in mind that even they need to rest and fill their tummies up. Different traits are beneficial for different competitions, so your professional swimmer Jelly wont be winning Jelly Sumo events.
Jelly Vogue
Its spring time! Make your Jellies perform as amazingly as they are. Compete to collect stars and make sure you are the one with more stars at the end of the competition, that will surely grant you an awesome prize. Being social is always a key aspect of the Vogue competitions.
Jelly Splash
During the heat and laziness of the summer, there is nothing better than cooling off in the sea. Thats exactly what your Jelly will do! Swim in the cool waters of Wimba Islands shore, and race to the finish line.
Jelly Buffet
Big tummies go a long way, in a buffet competition! Make sure you bring you best eating Jelly and compete to see which of the Jellies can eat all the contents the fastest.
Jelly Sumo
The Jelly Sumo competition is a winter event. We all know that winter is cold, and what better way to warm up than to push other Jellies out of the circle, that surely will get the blood pumping. Of course, the blobbier the Jelly the greater pushing strength it will have!
What's next?
Currently our main focus is finishing all the quests and improving cutscenes, it wont be too long until you hear from us again. Stay tuned!

In case you havent already, you can stay in touch and keep up to date with us through our newsletter, by wishlisting us on Steam or joining our Discord!

A sneak peak at the soundtrack

Welcome back Cutie Club! Its been a while since we introduced members of the Alchemic Cutie team. So today we present to you Dale North, our music composer. As a special treat, Dale has uploaded a preview of the games soundtrack that you can checkout on his SoundCloud!

Dale North is a music composer for video games, based in San Diego, California. As a multi-instrumentalist (piano, vocal, brass), performer, and singer-songwriter with an international training, he brings a unique voice to video game music.

Dales music mixes traditional instrumentation with vintage colors, blending live pianos and orchestral tones with the synthesizers and sound sets that shaped the sounds of games from the Super Nintendo and PlayStation eras. His upbringing in Tokyo, Japan helped shape his melodic sense (and his love of synthesizers), and he continues to hold the traditions of game music in the highest regard.

Dale looks forward to working on projects that favor creativity and seek to honor game musics rich heritage. He has previously worked on soundtracks for Wizard of Legend and Sparklite.

He also really, really likes Welsh Corgis.

Make sure to check him out in Twitter, Soundcloud and YouTube!

Let us know what you think of the soundtrack so far

Development Log #16 Codex, Shortcuts, Shrines and more!

Originally posted on alchemiccutie.com

Hey there Cutie Club! We are back with some more development news! If youve been keeping up with our social media stuff you may already have seen some sneak peeks of todays updates. Anyway, its time for Wimba Island to receive some love.
The Codex and the Cutiedex
These are your best companions when it comes to items and general information about your adventures on Wimba Island. The Codex will store information about different items that will help you remember what you can do with them, as well as allow you to know how much you may haven't found yet!

On the other hand, the Cutiedex will keep track of the different shapes and colors of the jellies you have caught. It will help you decide if you want to capture the next cute jelly you come across!
Shortcuts
Shortcuts do what you expect them to do, but on Wimba Island they are so cute you might as well activate them just for that.

Shortcuts should be used to avoid long walks to places youve already been to, progressing through the map will give you access to different and better ones. To activate a shortcut, you must place a relic on the correct side of it, this will leave it permanently active.
Shrines
In this update Shrines received a bit of a revision, changing some of their main mechanics. Shrines are now directly connected to temples, and are the main way of progressing through Wimba Island, allowing the player to access different zones of the island. You will have to find and complete all the different Shrines in the area before being able to travel to the next one.
Environment Widgets
Some of your favourite bushes and flora got some love in this update too! Receiving some cool animations and interactions, here are some examples:

Energetic Sprouts bounce up after you step on them.

Balloon Stalks give way for Yvette.

Stinkers fight back when stepped on.
Whats next?
We're currently working hard towards content completion so expect news about that in the coming weeks. Also, Dale is preparing a super awesome preview of the game's soundtrack. Stay tuned!

Development Log #15

Hey there Cutie Club!

As you saw on the first Wholesome Direct, weve finished adding seasons into the game! It took a lot of work but it has really brought Wimba Island to life. Your Jellies and you will enjoy chilly mornings in winter and lazy summer days.

As the seasons progress, different Jellies, resources, items and quests will appear on Wimba Island.

Each season lasts 28 in-game days, with different types of weather and climate changing the environment around you; with new areas becoming accessible. It will hopefully affect your overall mood too

Spring

Some days may be rainy others sunny but every spring day gets the jellies in a good mood. Lots of plants start to regrow during this season.

Summer

Warm and lazy, still makes everyone go crazy for sunbathing and Jelly swimming competitions. Time to shine swimming Jellies!

Autumn

Moody afternoons while walking through the forest, relax to the sound of water running and Jellies goofing around. Expect some foggy mornings during this season!

Winter

So cold it will make you want to stay home enjoying some hot chocolate and Jellie cuddles by the firepit. Some water areas will freeze over and give you access to new areas (with new Jellies!).

Whats next?

Were currently hard at work adding in all the quests of the game. The characters are starting to come to life and well be introducing some of them very soon

Happy new year!

Hey there Cutie Club,

We hope you had a good 2019 and have an even better 2020 We have a few quick updates today.

Jelly Traits & Abilities

Weve been working on updates to Jelly traits and have finalised all 32(!) possible traits a Jelly can have.

Every Jelly can have up to 3 traits. Traits can effect things such as digestion speed, stats, breeding and behavior. However, weve added some special traits (also known as Abilities) that activate while the player is carrying or holding a Jelly. These include finding hidden items, seeing when wild Jellies will appear and more!

Wild Jelly traits depend on the area, time of day and season so some exploring will be required to find the traits that you want. And if you want a Jelly to have a specific combination of traits, youll need to breed some Jellies.

Goodbye Obo

A few weeks ago, a Jelly egg appeared in our Discord server. Everyone helped to take care of the egg and when it hatched, we voted to name the jelly Obo. Since then, everyone took care of Obo, feeding them tasty treats and playing with them. Obos stats resulted with Tummy at level 34, Social at level 30 and Blob at level 29.

But alas, the contraption completed, and Obo has been sent to Wimba Island. And now a new Egg has appeared.

What does this mean? Well, any Jellies raised by our Discord community before launch will end up in-game as special event Jellies that can be caught. A Jellys stats effect many things from competitions to breeding to quests so planning how to raise a Jelly is important.

If you want to help raise some Jellies be sure to join our Discord server.

Whats next?

Were currently preparing for a big game show (more info soon) and focusing on main storyline content which means a lot of writing, scripting and mapping.

In the meantime, be sure to follow @alchemiccutie and @CIRCLE_Ent for future updates.

Santa left an early present

Hey there Cutie Club,

It looks like Santa has stopped by Wimba Island early. He left Finn a Jelly egg for Christmas and Finn needs help looking after it. So hes asked our Discord community to help raise it!

Finn will post updates on the egg every few hours with a guess of when he think it will hatch. We can vote on doing an activity with the egg by clicking on the reactions.

What will happen when it hatches?

So make sure to join our Discord to help out and be sure to follow @alchemiccutie and @CIRCLE_Ent for future updates.

P.S. A special thanks to Haku who helped code this

Development Log #14

Hey there Cutie Club,

After EGX Berlin (and London) were finally back into development and already have some updates to share

Weather System

Weve added a weather system into the game. Depending on the time of year, Wimba Island can be prone to different types of weather. On top of that, different types of weather will effect Jellies in different ways.

New dialogue box (again)

At EGX Berlin, we noticed players werent realizing that there was a scrollbox in the dialogue UI and that more options were available. Additionally, we realised the old UI didnt work well if two NPCs were talking to each other.

Based on those, we redesigned the dialogue box again to make things more clear. And for dialogue choices, if more choices are available the arrows will bounce to indicate more options can be selected.

EGX Berlin

We had a great time at EGX Berlin, meeting lots of old and new fans of the game! Our booth was always busy and we joined the Lets Play 4 Charity stream playing the latest beta build. Hopefully we can attend again next year!

Whats next?

Sebastien and Taylor are working away on building out the last areas of Wimba Island while Stephen and myself are coding some super secret new featurescant reveal anything just yet

In the meantime, make sure to join our Discord and be sure to follow @alchemiccutie and @CIRCLE_Ent for future updates.

Development Log #13

Hey there Cutie Club,

We have some updates to share today!

Environment Interaction

First off, we've been working on introducing alchemy to the environment to bring more fun to the game world. Every season will have different environment objects to play your flute on and find crystals.

New Flute Mechanics

Speaking of flute playing, we've completely revamped the flute mechanics.

To tie in with progressing to the different areas of Wimba Island, we've also added a progression system to the player's flute. The player has a limited number of transmutations shown in the top-right of the HUD. The flute will recharge throughout the day, or, if you want to completely recharge your flute, you can return home and sleep.

As the game progresses, you'll activate shrines in the game world which will expand your flute meter allowing you to perform more transmutations each day.

A homely home

Sebastien has been working on the tileset for interiors and has built out the player's home (left) and the grandparent's home (right). They look so cosy! :)

What's next?

As mentioned on our Jellycast, we won't be able to attend PAX and Gamescom this year (*sad jelly noises*). However, we are looking into attending a conference later in the year (hint: it may be in the U.K.). We hope to have more news soon :)

Tom has been working away on porting work and will have something cool to share soon. Taylor has been detailing The Plains (no spoilers yet) and has recently begun detailing The Forest part of the island. Stephen and Caoimhe has been working some new features which we'll share in a later blog post ;)

In the meantime, make sure to join our Discord and be sure to follow @alchemiccutie and @CIRCLE_Ent for future updates.

Development Log #12

Hey there Cutie Club,

Weve been busy the past few months working hard on the game and we have a lot of updates to share today!

New Logo
After a lot of feedback and revisions, weve updated the game logo! Our new logo is a lot more readable and 200% cuter. Check it out below!

A Wholesome Adventure
At the end of May myself and Sebastien worked with Talespinners to plan out the full narrative of the game. We have now finalised the story points of the game and are writing the finer details and dialogue. A special thanks to Matt Gibbs and Cash DeCuir for lending us their expertise!

New Team Members
We have 4 new members on the cutie team helping us build our wholesome RPG! Augusto Zanellato, Stephen Kelly-Hannon and Caoimhe Tiernan have joined us as programmers for the summer to help build out more gameplay features (more info later!). Taylor Richardson has also joined us as a Level Artist to help us bring Wimba Island to life. Expect a lot of updates in the coming weeks! Also, Caoimhes mom baked us an Alchemic Cutie cake which was yummy!

Building Wimba Island
Taylor and Sebastien have been hard at work building out the first area of the island. Wimba Island is split into 4 areas; The Plains, The Forest, The Springs and The Mountain. The plains is where your home and Wimba Village are. Theres lots of villagers wandering around, fields to explore and catch jellies. Check out a preview of Wimba Village below!

Whats next?
We have a lot of updates and announcements coming soon so we wont spoil anything yet! However, we would recommend joining our Discord server as there may be something new there soon

As always, make sure to follow @alchemiccutie and @CIRCLE_Ent for future updates.

Development Log #11

Hey there Cutie Club,

Weve been busy with development and have several updates to share today

End of Alpha
Well be closing sign ups to the alpha build on Monday 22nd April. We ended updates to the alpha in March as we started working on the next stage of development. Thank you to everyone who signed up and gave us feedback to improve the game If you previously signed up to the alpha, make sure to click the Discord invite link in your invitation and join the server before Monday. Well have some surprises for our alpha players on Discord in the future! And if you havent signed up yet you can do so here.

Jelly Shrine
Sebastien has been working on the design for the Jelly shrine. Unfortunately Jellies get old and die, leaving behind relics. Its a tradition on Wimba Island to place relics in the local shrine. Theres a rumor that certain relic patterns can perform alchemy at night

Jelly Ghosts
When exploring at night time, keep an eye on out for ghosts

World Map
Sebastien also finished designing the world map that can be found in the players notebook. As you discover locations, you can use the map to fast travel. Its also useful for marking locations you want to remember for later.

Whats next?
Tom is still working hard on porting the engine to the Nintendo Switch. Meanwhile, Dale has started composing the overworld music for the game and Sebastien is finishing up additional gameplay assets.

As always, make sure to follow @alchemiccutie and @CIRCLE_Ent for future updates.

Development Log #10

Hey there Cutie Club,

We've been busy since the last update building out Wimba Island. Over 200 Tiled maps will make up the island so we have a lot of work ahead of us!

From rough sketch to Tiled
Sebastien started off with a sketch of the island, then split it into images and imported them as image layers in Tiled. The first pass in Tiled was to do a quick fill of the terrain and allow us to see a rough version of the island and remove the image layers so that we could explore the island in-game. Now, we're focusing on building out the village and plains where the game starts.

Without spoiling too much, here's a section of that initial sketch showing where the game starts :)

To put it in perspective, this area is only 1/16th of the entire island. There are many environment types and locations to explore but you'll have to wait for later blog posts to learn find out more! (hey that rhymes!)

What's next?
After re-working a lot of the UI to improve readability on the Switch's screen size, Tom is now starting to port the engine. This is going to be a lot of work but hopefully we'll have a build running (in some form) by May :) Sebastien will be continuing on the Tiled maps while also working on new tiles needed for locations around the island.

As always, make sure to follow@alchemiccutieand@CIRCLE_Entfor future updates.

Development Log #9

Hey there Cutie Club,

We're still busy doing a lot of work behind the scenes in preparation for the beta but we've got some updates!

Environment Tilesets
Sebastien has been hard at work finishing off the tilesets for the different environments on Wimba Island. He's also done a lot of recoloring to make everything look more cuter!

Modding Tools
Tom (me) has finished implementing the modding tools and now all the game's content is packed using the tools. We're still unsure how to test the modding API with the community - maybe we'll do a private modding beta? If you're interested, be sure to pop on to our Discord server and let us know! :)

Localisation Tools
I've also been implementing a gettext library and tool for automating the generation of files needed for localisation. We haven't finalised the languages available at launch, more information will be available at a later date. :)

What's next?
We still have a lot of writing to do and we're starting to do a rough pass of the island's map design in Tiled (this will definitely take some time). Tom will also preparing a final bugfix patch for the alpha in preparation for GDC.

As always, make sure to follow @alchemiccutie and @CIRCLE_Entfor future updates.

Development Log #8

Hey there Cutie Club,

Weve been super busy doing a lot of writing and content planning for the game but we wanted to share some of the progress weve been making.

Designing Wimba Island

Weve settled on a near-final layout of the island and the different environments that appear there. We still need to test if the scale allows for a good balance of exploration and Jelly raising but already we can see the size of the island compared to the alpha.

Click here to see our world size

Building the Village

The Village is located to the south of the island and is where all the villagers can be found going about their lives. From the general store, to the local inn, theres plenty of people to meet and things to do. Sebastien has been working on the designs on the buildings. Based on the backstory of the world (more on that in a later post!), the buildings are designed to look like theyve been refurbished and patched up over the years.

Mod Preparation

Tom has been busy finalizing the engine architecture to begin building the game content and to also finalise the modding system. While the modding API already existed in the alpha, the engine was limited to running only the core game files which used the API. Soon, the game will be able to load multiple mods at once.

Whats next?

Were still extending the modding tools to work as a standalone application and extending the data validation to prevent game crashes caused by bad game data/configuration. Once the village is done, well be designing the other environment types in the world.

As always, make sure to follow @alchemiccutie and @CIRCLE_Ent for future updates
