New Discord Server!

Happy Monday everyone!


Today we have a few really important announcements to share with you all. To start, a patch was just released for the Switch version of the game! This update brings the Switch version to the same place as the Steam version with all the recent bug fixes that were made. Secondly, the development of To The Rescue! has been transferred to indie.io. The developers at Little Rock Games created an absolutely amazing and adorable game and we are excited to pick up where they left off and continue making improvements. Why the new server?


The previous server was for the developers of Little Rock Games and not exclusive to To The Rescue! When the game's development was transferred to indie.io, we made the decision to create an exclusive server for the game to make sure the community stayed up-to-date with anything going on related to the game and so that you can report bugs and issues directly to the team now working on the game.

How do I report a bug there?


Head over to the #-- channel and use the /bug command to report a bug or issue. Make sure to include as much information as possible including the version number, what you're playing on (Steam or Switch) and what happened leading up to the bug/issue.   • Fixed an issue causing dogs to be stuck in a Playspace indefinitely.

Experimental: Hotfix 1.0.71

Hi everybody! We are back with our first update to the Experimental branch! The experimental branch let's us release new updates in a limited way to catch any new issues that might have snuck in. You can swap to the experimental branch if you see a bug you've been experiencing has been fixed in an experimental update, and let us know if you encounter it again. If you're not familiar, you can try the experimental branch by right clicking TTR in your Steam library and then selecting properties. From there, you can navigate to the Betas tab and swap to the experimental branch. After we are confident the experimental branch hasn't introduced any new issues, we will move the update to the default branch. Now, onto the bug fixes!

Bug Fixes


  • Fixed issue that prevented players from moving through vertical doors sometimes.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed helpers to interact with dogs from a long distance.
  • Improved the reliability of the scene moving Ringo to Diesel's kennel.

Patch 1.0.68 Hi everybody! Its been a while, but we are back with a mountain of bug fixes! If youve stepped away from the game because of bugs or performance issues, wed like to invite you back to see how weve improved. Below are a few of the highlights, but there are many more changes than we could reasonably list here. We wanted to take our time to try and get a handle on the most severe issues that players were experiencing and bring the game closer to our intended experience. If you experience any issues,please use the in-game link to submit a support ticket so that we can assist you and prioritize any new issues that crop up. Updates will be more regular moving forward, and we are excited to hear what kinds of new content for the game that you would love to see in the new year!

Bug Fixes


  • Fixes for issues in the story and tutorial preventing progression.
  • Overall Performance Improvement: You should notice strong performance improvements for larger shelters.
  • Fixes to Side Story Content: Side stories such as Jeremys New Dog should progress properly now without starting duplicate instances or failing to progress.

Adoptions


  • Fixes for issues with the adoption sequence such as refusing to take the selected dog, or refusing to leave.
  • Lost dog visitors will not automatically begin a conversation when trying to hand them a dog before speaking with them.
  • Construction
  • Construction Layering: sub elements in the construction menu like doors and kennels should properly layer visually with walls and floors.
  • Fixed issue with demolished rooms reappearing when loading saves.
  • Valid door placement is more strongly enforced, preventing doors from being placed over kennels and on wall boundaries.
  • Kennels should now maintain their upgrades and level when loading a save.

UI


  • Fixed many UI formatting, functionality, and spelling issues.
  • All construction items should be properly named now.
  • All text should fit in the given space or animate to accommodate.
  • Renamed the Tutorial and Sandbox options on the new game panel to Intro and Quickplay respectively to better convey their purpose.
  • Grant Issues: Grants should now check for completion properly at the end of each week, with new grants being available at the beginning of each week. Additionally, grants should load and animate properly.
  • Fixed issue with event icons appearing as white squares.

Functionality


  • Fixed issue with gameplay settings resetting under certain circumstances when opening the settings menu or restarting the game.
  • Controller Support: Controller support is widely available and input tooltips should use relevant controller glyphs.
  • Super dogs should maintain their appearance between loading saves.
  • Play area capacities should be enforced now.
  • Improvements to the function of the interaction focus marker, particularly when around multiple interactable objects.
  • Helpers properly pause now during cutscenes,while using the pc, and other irregular game states.
  • Fixes for issues in the story and tutorial preventing progression.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to grab objects through walls.
  • Players must now be holding the scrub brush to continue washing a dog in the bath.

Features & Changes


  • Added a few new companion tips to assist new players.
  • Show kennel ribbons are targetable with the folder, allowing players to see the linked dogs info.
  • Visitors now check to see if there are dogs in the show kennel before failing an adoption. If there arent any dogs present, they will ask the player if they should wait, or come back another time.
  • New animations for the community map menu on the pc.
  • Added paging functionality for the save rollback panel to make it smoother to navigate for larger save files.
  • Added an Unstuck button to the pause menu that resets the player to the front door and reapplies the room construction function to resolve any navigation issues.
  • Added new stressor factors to some traits.
  • Bad With Dogs: Generates stress when near other dogs.
  • Dominant: Generates stress when sharing a space with another dog with the dominate trait.
  • Sensitive Stomach: Generates stress when eating a non-preferred food.
  • Separation Anxiety: Generates stress when not near other dogs or humans.

A Few More Fixes


I've got a few much needed bug fixes ready to go! As we continue to get a handle on bugs, what kind of content or changes do you want to see most? We've made some QOL progress with the adoption skip and dog trackers, but I want to know what you're looking forward to next!

  • Fostered dogs should no longer duplicate and appear in the holding kennel.
  • Adoption actions should no longer freeze adoptions when you have the second adoption action skill.
  • The game should no longer fail to save if it is unable to create a back up save.

Back again!


Back with another hotfix to address some urgent issues! As always, I want to reiterate that we are committed to making TTR the best it can be! I know that it has been a rough road, but we are getting closer. Thank you all for all of your support.

Bug Fixes


  • Frozen input after loading into the shelter is fixed.
  • Fosters failing to appear in the foster panel is fixed.
  • All Dogs disappearing when loading into the shelter is fixed.
  • The story goal to unlock the foster network should properly clear now.
  • The adoption skip input is now remappable. If your input prompt appears bugged, remap the control in the settings.

Hey Everyone!


We have a small patch to address a few issues that we've identified since the last patch. As always, please report any bugs you find so that we can keep working to make the game as good as it can be!

Bug Fixes


  • Machines with touchscreen input should no longer experience any issues with the mouse being unusable.
  • Right-facing T kennels should have a capacity of 4 dogs now.
  • Vertical Run Kennels have had their colliders adjusted so that they should be able to placed directly next to one another now.
  • The input for the adoption evaluation skip should now properly default to the space bar. Control remapping for this input will be coming in a future update.

Patch 1.0.45

Hey everyone!


As always, thank you all for your support and patience. We have another patch for you all today to address more of those pesky bugs as well as add in some quality of life things that you all have been asking for! Here's a quick highlight of some of the most prominent quality of life things you all have been asking for: Skipping adoptions - Does it feel like adopters sometimes take forever when choosing their furever friend? Well now you can skip all of the waiting around and get right down to getting them their new friend
Dog locator - Having a hard time locating a dog in your shelter? Not sure which kennel they're in? Well now from the dog log you can track a doggo and they will have a little indicator over their head to help you find them!
Nearby objects now being sorted by type and then position - When close to objects, you no longer have to just scroll through everything to get to the thing you want! Priority is now set by their type and then by position closest to you
Before we get into the full log, we want to again thank you all for everything. We hope this helps improve your experiences with To The Rescue. Bug Fixes


  • Fix for issue that could overwrite most recent save with dummy data.
  • Interactions should now be limited to the currently active (yellow highlight/outline) container or interactable. The current interactable is determined by picking the closest interactable to the player.
  • The order of focusables (targets of the interaction pointer) is now sorted and determined by object type, horizontal position, and then vertical position. Scrolling through nearby targets should move by object type, from upper left to lower right.
  • Breakrooms should no longer dissappear.
  • Duplicate and incorrect foster entry data should be fixed.
  • The page control buttons for the Staff panel should function properly now.
  • Fixed issue that allowed failed games to be loaded and continued in a broken state.
  • The kickstarter backer plaque should be interactable again.
  • Issue for frozen dialog requiring using the escape key should be fixed now.
  • Fixed issue that allowed doors to be placed on top of existing decor in rooms like the break room.
  • Fixed issue that would create cutouts for horizontal run kennels placed next to horizontal walls.
  • Helpers should no longer become unresponsive. If helpers are waiting in the lobby, make sure that you have enough break rooms and they are accessible with doors.
  • Fix for duplicate fosters issue.
  • The mayor's portrait should now appear centered properly during tutorials.
  • Fixes for the end game cutscene. Visitors who can be spoken to will have an icon above them until you have spoken to them.
  • The current goals on the pause menu should be placed properly.

New Additions/Changes


  • Added a Toggle to dog log entries that will track a dog's location with a pointer on the screen. The pointer will dissapear when toggled off, the dog is leashed by the player, or the dog is teleported with the Ribbons.
  • Dog Log entries now include disease and vaccine information for each dog similar to the file folder view.
  • Added a skip to the evaluation section of adoptions.
  • Limited the frequency of dialog interactions to address issues like the camera becoming stuck or skipping lines.
  • Reduced the capacity of Sunny Paws from 24 to 18 to make this stage less overwhelming.
  • Cleaned up layering and colliders in the player home scene.
  • Optimization and performance Improvements
*Quick note: If you have remapped your controls, the Skip Adoption shortcut becomes unmapped. The fix is just to reset controls to default.*

  • Fixed issue with items in player's inventory during the day transition becoming stuck in their inventory the next day.
  • Pausing during cutscenes should no longer cause issues with cutscene timing.
  • The time of day should be properly cleared when creating a new save during the same game instance.
  • Fixed issue with vaccinations reducing adoptability by one star.
  • Fixed the Clock Out button disappearing if enabling the summary tab in the reports page (when it wasn't enabled by default)
  • Fixed issue with end game scene, making it impossible to get to credits if said "no" the first time to the mayor
  • Fixed issue with being able to click to differnt tabs during the daily summary.
  • Fixed an issue with the Daily Summary becoming stuck.
  • Fixed the issue with Adoption Trait matches and the Emphasize action not registering properly.

  • Added a restriction on Lost dog events to only be dogs that arrived within the last 7 days.
  • Added an icon in the build menu to display if a room doesn't have a door.
  • Dogs now eat and drink at higher thresholds than before.
  • Playspaces no longer have wallpaper and flooring options in the inspector.
  • Visitors without any dialog do not highlight in the end game scene, making it more clear which ones you're supposed to be able to talk to
  • Ribbons can now return a dog to their home kennel, even if they have been removed manually from the show kennel, provided they have a home kennel (The home kennel icon should appear when on leash and focused if they do).

Hey everyone!


I want to thank all of you for your patience as weve worked on this patch. It has been a while, but I hope that our work shines through in the fixes and improvements weve been able to make and If youre new to TTR I hope that you just get to focus on helping virtual (and real) pups. We have more work to do, but I hope you are still enjoying TTR and that it will be much easier to do so now! I also want to reiterate that we arent stepping away from TTR anytime soon. We are committed to making sure that the game is everything it can be and we still have tons of content planned to further expand the game this year and beyond. Things like new shelter customizations, new dog and character designs, deeper interactions between the dogs, and much more! We have the best audience and community out there and we cant wait to share even more with you. Additionally, I want to shout out our incredible helpers and Discord mods who have been there to help you with issues while we work and provided invaluable feedback during testing.   • Fixed issue with items in player's inventory during the day transition becoming stuck in their inventory the next day.
  • Pausing during cutscenes should no longer cause issues with cutscene timing.
  • The time of day should be properly cleared when creating a new save during the same game instance.
  • Fixed issue with vaccinations reducing adoptability by one star.
  • Fixed the Clock Out button disappearing if enabling the summary tab in the reports page (when it wasn't enabled by default)
  • Fixed issue with end game scene, making it impossible to get to credits if said "no" the first time to the mayor
  • Fixed issue with being able to click to differnt tabs during the daily summary.

  • Added an event that can spawn between 3 and 5 dogs when the shelter is below 65% capacity.
  • Added an icon to mark a dog's Home Kennel when they are focused while on leash.
  • Added a restriction on Lost dog events to only be dogs that arrived within the last 7 days.
  • Added an icon in the build menu to display if a room doesn't have a door.
  • Dogs now eat and drink at higher thresholds than before.
  • Playspaces no longer have wallpaper and flooring options in the inspector.
  • Visitors without any dialog do not highlight in the end game scene, making it more clear which ones you're supposed to be able to talk to
  • Ribbons can now return a dog to their home kennel, even if they have been removed manually from the show kennel, provided they have a home kennel (The home kennel icon should appear when on leash and focused if they do).

  • Grants no longer stop tracking further progress once the game is loaded

  • Dog thought bubble symbols now reference the specific disease they have when sick
  • Added a failsafe to return dogs to their playspace if they escape

  • Greatly improved file write times. Issues with lost frames while saving should be reduced

First off, thank you all for all of the bug reports and suggestions you have been sending our way in Discord. It's been really helpful for us, so please keep sending those reports. Before we go through all the fixes/changes, we just want to highlight one of biggest requests we've added in this patch which is a Story Mode Tutorial toggle to the new game panel. Toggling this off will skip the introduction of the story and progress straight to the Mayor's tour of the new shelter Tanner, Olivia and the rest of the TTR team

Major Bug Fixes/Changes


  • Fixed issue with game not saving the first time a scene is loaded.
  • Dogs should no longer spawn with the same names as dogs needed to progress tutorial in Sunny Paws (again: we're looking at you Peanut and Ringo)
  • Made it no longer possible for dogs to run away where you can't get them in Sunny Paws
  • Made dogs that spawn in Sunny Paws have much higher needs at the start to make it hopefully a bit less hectic or stressful
  • Fixed the visual issue in the character selection screen that occurs after having unlocked the secret character
  • Added Story Tutorial toggle to the new game panel. Toggling this off will skip the introduction of the story and progress straight to the Mayor's tour of the new shelter
  • Fixed an issue that would occasionally lock the save slots preventing a new game from being started
  • Adjusted font settings to address the issue with dissapearing text on Mac
  • Added a failsafe to check skill availability so they shouldn't become incorrectly locked
  • Loose dogs now return to the player if they get too far away. They also now generally prefer to stay inside
  • Limited the maximum rate of disease spread to make outbreaks more manageble.
  • Balance changes for adoption and new dog event biases: should reduce the number of times one will happen without the other
  • When the foster network is unlocked, it is now very likely that the first foster will appear on the next day.
  • Fix for bug that allows unlimited liking of a social media post with the Floofscrolling sklil.

Minor Bug Fixes/Changes


  • Added a catch to remove dogs from the list of current dogs that shouldn't and dont spawn into the scene
  • Fixed issue causing superdog traits and other recently added traits to appear as mirrors of other traits or garbage data
  • Fixed issue with superdogs not knowing what shelter stage they belonged in and haunting the player for all eternity
  • Fix for the issue with the Backer Plaque being interactable from outside the lobby. It should no longer override interactions with nearby kennels.
  • Fixed an issue for dogs recieving duplicate traits.
  • Fixed animation issues with several visitor and player designs
  • Fixed helpers removing dogs from show kennels to bathe them in certain circumstances
  • When the foster network is unlocked, it is now very likely that the first foster will appear on the next day.
  • Fix for bug that allows unlimited liking of a social media post with the Floofscrolling skill.
  • Added a failsafe to return dogs to their current kennel if they have wandered out for some reason.
  • Added a markerboard next to the First Aid cabinet to show the current inventory count of first aid kits.

Bug Fixes


  • Implemented a fix for stress gain happening before stage 3 leading to injuries that can't be treated yet.
  • Implemented a fix for events not happening on the first day of the game.
  • Dogs should no longer spawn with the same names as dogs needed to progress tutorial in Sunny Paws
  • The puppy events were getting a bit out of hand, so we reduced the frequency of puppy events
  • Added a catch for a issue in cutscenes that potentialy broke cutscenes and led to potential hard blocks.
  • Reduced the slowest speed from 1 tick every 2.5 seconds to 1 tick every 3 seconds.
  • Fixed common issue with saves that was caused by specific dog traits.
  • Fixed an issue with being unable to close construction during mayor cutscene. The mayor should no longer impede your constructions.
  • Added a call to refresh setting values when loading to the menu.
  • Companions no longer have a radioactive looking outline animation.
  • Fixed an issue with kennel upgrades retaining default text.
  • Simple Bathing minigame mode will no longer be extremely, so hopefully you'll be able to have more simple baths.

Demo V 0.1.23 If you've been experiencing any bugs in the tutorial or the main story, you will likely want to make a new save file upon updated.

Altered some dog names in some languages. The proper number of dogs should spawn in story mode The tutorial should no longer become stuck during the first adoption. Localization Announcement

We wanted to post an exciting announcement regarding something we have been working on! For a while now, we've been developing TTR with support for localization, but the plans for actually localizing were a bit hazy. However, we're pleased to announce that through our publisher, we have partnered with Gameeleon to localize TTR into 10 languages! The following languages will be supported at launch:

  • Russian

NextFest Demo Patch Notes

Fixes


  • The daily timer should no longer continue into the negative without triggering the summary sequence.
  • Visitors shouldn't get stuck on evaluating the first dog anymore.
  • Starting a new game mode should load the proper gamestate (Starting a sandbox game after playing the story should load directly to the stage 3 shelter)
  • Music should be back on the start menu.
  • Updrades to the leash and player inventory should be preserved on loading a save.
  • General stability improvements to mitigate issues that we have been unable to recreate.

Workarounds


  • Clear prior save files if you are continuing to have issues.
  • Try completely closing and reopening the game before starting a new game if they are having issues.
  • Camera stuck in some instances. Added a button in the menu to reset camera which should fix offset camera and black screen issues.
  • If the dogs start to do "the wave" and stop eating/drinking go to the shelter construction and click the "checkout" button. Don't ask why, but it works!
  • If the player gets stuck, look for the "reset position" button from the pause menu

We've been hard at work trying to squash the nastiest bugs in the demo and make the overall experience a bit more stable. If you continue to have issues, please submit a bug report via the in-game link or join our discord to talk to us directly!

  • Settings and preferences should be saved between game sessions now.
  • Community events should no longer be executable during the end of day summary.
  • Community events should no longer get stuck on the fade-to-black transition.
  • The camera should add and remove targets properly.
  • Saving and loading should be more stable now.
  • Dogs should eat and drink without issue now.
  • Visitors should leave when adoptions end.
  • Visitors shouldn't get stuck on evaluating the first dog anymore.
  • All visitors should be interactable now.
  • Using the reset player button should work in any scene with the player now.
  • Moved the euthanasia option to the new game menu so that no one misses the option to toggle it off.

NextFest Demo Patch Notes

We're aware there there have been quite a few bugs that have cropped up during the demo, and we've spent the day squashing as many as we could! A new version of the demo should be ready to update with a handful of fixes.

Fixes


  • Fixed issue where Sandbox toggle from debug menu only works the first time the menu is loaded.
  • Fixed issue preventing starting a new game after the first time the menu is loaded.
  • Player no longer gets stuck in narrow spaces between kennels.
  • Fixed issue causing volume settings to be reset between sessions.

Balance Tweaks and Changes


  • Enabled tutorial panels for story mode segments
  • Slightly adjusted tick rate
  • Reduced poop frequency by 66%
  • Enabled Sandbox button on main menu to jump past the story cutscenes

Working To Fix/Known Issues


  • Visitors won't leave after adoptions for some players (related to nav mesh issues)
  • Day ends and timer continues into negative but no end of day summary screen
  • Community Event stuck on black screen when resolved.
  • Companion highlight issue
  • Loading a save can cause the nav mesh to be incomplete
  • Returning to the main menu from character select makes it impossible to start game
  • After 2nd day dogs may stop eating/drinking/become difficult to leash. (related to nav mesh issues)
  • Some visitors cannot be spoken to

Workarounds


  • Camera stuck in some instances. Added a button in the menu to reset camera which should fix offset camera and black screen issues.
  • If the dogs start to do "the wave" and stop eating/drinking go to the shelter construction and click the "checkout" button. Don't ask why, but it works!
  • If the player gets stuck, look for the "reset position" button from the pause menu

Steam Next Fest and Dev Updates

Hello everyone! Were excited to announce were going to be a part of the Steam Next Fest! Starting today, youll be able to play our latest demo! To The Rescue! is a dog shelter simulator where you are responsible for taking care of dozens of cute dogs in need of homes. It's not all cuddles and snoot boops though: running a shelter can be a lot of work. You have to manage all of the dogs' needs in order to maximize their chances of finding the right forever homes.

Each day brings new challenges and rewards. Dogs have specific preferences, can get infectious diseases, and can have negative traits. But you can also hold fundraisers, get random donations, and, if you work hard, help someone find their new best friend. Unfortunately, there's never enough room, and always more dogs.

Some dogs are more desirable than others, but maybe if you can afford to wait long enough, just maybe, every dog will have their day.



Features
  • Support real-world charity. 20% of the profit from all sales of To The Rescue! goes towards real dog shelters. Details TBD.
  • Every dog is unique. Each dog is generated with its own traits and preferences to make them unique and memorable.
  • Match dogs with adopters' needs. Adopters will often come into the shelter looking for specific things. Match their preferences to increase the chances of adoption.
  • Upgrade your shelter. If you end up with some spare funds, you can upgrade the shelter to have deluxe kennels, get help with cleaning or upkeep, and more!
  • Keep the shelter open. Sometimes it can be tough to afford to take care of all the dogs in the shelter. You'll need to be thrifty and sometimes make tough decisions so that you can keep helping dogs find homes.
