Giants - Patch 1 has dropped on the Beta Branch. It features a few things but the most important are:
- Inverting the Y axis
- FPS Cap at a custom value
- Fix for auto targeting
Hello Giants!
We've celebrated the release of the game over the weekend. At this current point in time, the game sold ~295 copies really within our expectations. This means we're almost 40% of the way towards my goal of having Bearded Giant Games 100% independent and focused on original game creation and client/freelancing work. But enough about this, let's talk about what you can expect from the game this week!
For Space Mercs - we will going to establish a weekly routine of releases in a Tik-Tok fashion.
- On the Tik week, the game will see patches that contains bug fixes and quality of live improvements.
- During the Tok week we will be working on content updates and new features.
In the first patch, we're focusing on solving issues raised by you guys over the weekend. On the first patch we're focusing on fixing the following issues:
- Resolution duplicates when scrolling through the resolution list Some of you have duplicate resolutions in the options menu when you scroll through the list making it seem that the Next and Previous buttons are stuck.
- View mode saved between sessions Your last view (cockpit or exterior) will be saved and the game will default to it on the next mission.
- Multiple FPS Cap targets We heard you loud and clear on this one - multiple FPS locks will be available to be set from the options menu if you want to cap it. 30, 60, 90, 120 FPS sounds like a good target for me!
- Invert Y axis No need for explanation here - we're enabling it for all control modes
- Improve readability for Hull and Energy values
- Fix for auto targeting non-objective enemies in range
- Fix for audio slider defaulting to 0 on hitting the apply button for the first time
Giants - I have something special for you on release day! It's called the Battle Designer and it allows you to setup custom battles of up to 4000 ships each.
If you ever wondered how many ships of a given type you can take on yourself well, now you can! Setup your own custom 1000 Light fighters vs 200 Heavy fighters battle or go all out and just setup a Battleship war - it's up to you!
I designed this game because I wanted to feel like I'm part of a huge scale war, I wanted to fly around ships who are fighting each other and I think the Battle Designer brings the game ever so closer to that goal!
With further updates I believe we can extend it to setup custom community challenges for the game! If you have any ideas, drop by the forums and let us know. We're shaping it together!
The Battle Designer unlocks after completing the campaign missions!

Hello Mercenaries! The steam page and trailer received an overhaul as we have managed to secure optimal graphical performance even on the lower end computer spectrum. Both the video bellow and the attached images were recorded on a laptop with an integrated gpu (Intel HD 4000) and represents the minimum graphical quality of the game! Users with computers that surpass the minimum specs can toggle additional graphical effects. At launch, on the minimum hardware specifications, you can enjoy the following post processing and hardware based effects available by default:
- Screen Space Reflections
- Anti Aliasing
- Ambient Occlusion
- Bloom
- Color Grading
- Depth of Field
- Real Time Shadows
- Eye Adaption
- Chromatic Aberation

Space Mercs Linux [1.02 G]
Throughout the game’s 30 mission campaign you will dodge, chase, fire, escort and absolutely obliterate enemies ranging from small drones to huge battleships while bound to a single rule: “If it moves, it dies“.
The game features four different game modes, two available from the start and two that can be unlocked by progressing through the story:
- Quick Battle: You are given a random ship, a random amount of wingmen, a random objective and must face off a random amount of enemies. It’s literal chaos bound to keep you by the edge of your seat.
- Campaign: 30 action-packed missions that can be unlocked and explored via the Bulletin Board. You get one or more targets, an objective, reward and are sent out into space. Completing the objective rewards you with credits which allows you to purchase more ships. Destroying anything else outside of the objective will reward your with Prestige which allows you to upgrade your new ships. The backstory of the game, lore and conversation can be explored via the use of the Command Line Interface in the game. Read emails, access restricted folders and explore your Station’s computer via a bash-like interface.
- Duels (1 v 1 / 3 v 3) is a mode unlocked via campaign progression that allows you to gamble some of your heard earned prestige in battle. Win and multiply your Prestige, loose and it’s back to grinding enemies on missions you can defeat.
- Survival is your reward for finishing the campaign. Jump between procedurally generated sectors and defeat a ever growing list of enemies and go for the highest score possible.
- OS: Ubuntu 18.04
- Processor: Any
- Graphics: Intel HD 4000
