Hi Survivors! We've gotten a few questions regarding Keyboard & Mouse controls for the game. KBM support is always active and can be used at any time on top of our gamepad support. If you'd like to see on-screen controls for your control scheme of choice: Go to Settings -> Game Settings -> Controller Icons You can set Controller Icons to Xbox, PlayStation, Keyboard, or Hidden. We also wanted to inform you that an incoming patch will fix the icon sizes for the on-screen KBM control display. In the near future, we will also support key rebinding. Thank you for reading, and we hope you enjoy the game!

Hey Survivors,
Our latest patch for Railbreak is now live on Steam! This patch brings some meaty graphical enhancements to the game, and brings the title up to the 12GB size that was advertised on the store page since launch. If you encounter any instability, just reduce the Texture Quality setting in the Video Settings menu as that area received the biggest upgrade across the game.
Patch 3
- Significant graphics improvements across the entire game. Hard drive space usage increased, however run-time RAM usage only appears slightly higher in-game as per our testing. This change does not affect the game's framerate. - Fixed an issue where the Sinden Lightgun Border would disappear on the Game Over screen.
Hey Survivors!
Good news! A few more glitches have been patched in the world of Railbreak on Steam! These patches are rolling out to all other platforms today as well!
Here's what we did, and don't forget to check the "Update Notes" button on the title screen for this complete list too! We have plenty more updates coming in the weeks ahead!
Patch 2
- Added a "Compile Shaders" button to the Settings menu. - Added the Update Notes screen. - High scores now properly save in all parts of the game. - Added an option in Audio Settings to allow you to set the character's voice volume level independently. - Fixed numerous infrequent softlocks on Acts 2, 4, 5, and 6. - Added an option in Game Settings to allow you to specify additional wait time before moving to another area to make it easier to collect items. - Added an option to the Screen Filter Override in the Game Settings menu called "Never Switch", which will ensure no game overlays ever appear on screen. - Added an option to the Game Settings to specify larger bounding boxes on item pickups. This can only be set at the Main Menu. - Items can now only be picked up if they're visible to the player, and cannot be collected through walls or other surfaces anymore. - Improvements to eliminate a very infrequent situation where being grabbed by a zombie would remove your gun. - Additional performance improvements across the title. - Item highlights now appear at greater range.

Hello again Survivors!
https://youtu.be/y-WS-KRfjDM
Today we're excited to announce a slew of new features for our upcoming arcade on-rails shooter, Railbreak! As previously mentioned, Railbreak will be launching on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Steam, and Epic Games Store on December 22nd at a price of $19.99 USD worldwide!
Since we last showed off the game, Railbreak has evolved in several really important ways. The work on the game has also enhanced the map design and general gameplay for Outbreak: Shades of Horror, as well. Stay tuned for more information on Outbreak: Shades of Horror in the future!
We have FOUR key categories to touch on today!
1. New Elemental Weapons
If you tuned into our last stream, you may know a bit about these already! The primary and secondary weapons in Railbreak are outfitted with unique elemental effects that can give you an advantage in battle. Load up enemies with electricity and watch them explode! Stop zombies in their tracks with ice ammo! Melt through the undead with fire! Send the body parts flying with explosive rounds! The new elemental effects drive the action into absolutely chaotic territory, so be sure to take advantage of your arsenal!
2. 'Glitch' Gameplay Modifier System
As you progress through the game, things may become a little dicey when new modifiers dubbed 'Glitches' trigger during a stage. Some Glitches may lend a helping hand with infinite ammo or a defensive buff, while others may serve as a thorn in your side with enemies gaining additional health or a storm of civilians running out in front of your shots. With a ton of different Glitches to encounter, you'll need to stay on your toes to survive!
3. New Special Boss Zombies
On top of your run-of-the-mill zombies, keep your eyes out for powerful boss monsters! Boom Boom will detonate itself if you're unable to kill it fast enough! The demonic Fetch will blast and blind you with its powerful laser attack! Things get even hairier when you encounter 'Glitched' versions of these beasts; these enhanced versions of the special infected have are faster, stronger, and tankier!
4. Three New Bonus Modes
Thought you knew all the ways you'd play Railbreak? Think again! Deal with constantly firing and random Glitch modifiers in Glitch Gauntlet! Face off against all of the game's bosses in a unique scenario in Boss Rush! Face a special challenge that serves to thank our supporters in Shoutout Shootout! With these new modes, you'll never run out of ways to play Railbreak either alone or with a friend in optional two-player coop!

Development of Railbreak has taken place alongside Shades of Horror, with each game helping and enhancing the other! Railbreak started as a way to test and build out the co-op functionality in Shades of Horror, and it was so fun that we had to create a full featured experience out of it!
Featuring areas and content from the first act of Shades of Horror, Railbreak is the ultimate sneak peek into how development on SOH is progressing.
If you are an on-rails arcade game fan, you will be as thrilled as we are that the Railbreak features optional support for Sinden Lightguns (Keep your peepers open for a bundle, people!!). Join Lydia as she tries to escape a city overrun with the undead, meeting fellow survivors, solving puzzles, battling the undead, and running for her life as everything tries to kill her.
You'll find no modern polish or game mechanics here. This is a '90s survival horror adventure as it was back then, all the rough edges intact including cheesy voice acting, limited saving, and non-stop death. So if you're ready to take a trip back in time for the ultimate challenge, there's no better time to face the nightmare. Just don't expect to kill a zombie in a single hit, they're quite durable!
And hey, you can always bring a friend along in split-screen co-op (or even online through Remote Play Together) if you really need some backup! Good luck! Oh, and bring a gamepad if you can, there's controller support!

Outbreak: Endless Nightmares twists the series' survival horror gameplay by adding elements of roguelike gameplay. You'll need to explore, hunt for supplies, uncover clues, and fight your way through each anomaly each consisting of semi-procedurally generated instances where both the environment, and the undead, are out to kill you!
Immediately after the events of Outbreak: The Nightmare Chronicles, you find yourself trapped within the remains of Arzt Memorial Hospital the hub to organize your inventory and storage cache, level up your character, or just to take a breather before venturing back out into the chaos. Theres more to discover in the world besides murderous hordes of the undead find the journals scattered about to learn more about the outbreak and ultimately where to find refuge! Dont think death can save you every time you die, you'll awake trapped in this nexus.
Outbreak: Endless Nightmares focuses on extreme replayability by offering multiple character options each with their own abilities, upgrade paths and more! Each time you venture into the anomaly, itll change and become increasingly difficult as you grow in power. You'll need to think carefully about what weapons, healing items, and other supplies you'll bring along. If you're lucky, you may find storage caches that give you access to your expanded inventory, and offer an opportunity to restock. But it's all on you to search your environment for supplies. If you run out ... your fate is sealed!

Outbreak: The New Nightmare - Fixed camera 4-player co-op survival horror!
Outbreak: Epidemic - OTS 4-player co-op survival horror!
Outbreak: The Nightmare Chronicles - Single-player hardcore fixed camera classic survival horror!
Outbreak: Lost Hope - Single-player OTS hardcore classic survival horror.
Outbreak - 2D 4-player co-op survival horror!
Thanks for surviving with us!
Outbreak: Epidemic v6.0 has been released! This update includes:
- Local 2-player co-op splitscreen. You can now play the entire game with a friend locally through splitscreen. See this post about details and how to use this feature. NOTE: If you've played Outbreak: Epidemic before, it is highly recommended to reset your controls to defaults prior to playing again.
- Upgraded the underlying engine to latest version. You should see less stuttering during gameplay (especially on lower-end machines) and a small framerate boost across the game in Single-Player and Online Co-op modes.
- Fixed an issue where games could be joined after they were started. Join-in-progress is not supported and would cause the game to crash and exhibit other issues.
- Minor fixes across the game.
Hey Survivors! Fast off the heels of Outbreak: The New Nightmare getting local co-op, we're happy to announce it's coming to Outbreak: Epidemic as well! You will be able to play the entire game in 2-player splitscreen co-op. This will be coming to Steam first and then consoles later in 2020!
Local Co-op Overview
You'll access splitscreen co-op through the new Local Game menu (replacing the Single-player menu).
Once there, you can either set up a solo or local co-op game by selecting your characters for each player. If P2 is set to None, you'll play solo. If you set a character, you'll enter local co-op when the game starts.
Both players will be able to select their characters and fully level them up during gameplay. All characters are pulled from the owner's Steam profile. Everyone shares EXP, so each player will get equal XP as you fight through the scenarios. All game modes and scenarios are supported in local co-op.
You can customize controls for each player in the Options -> Controls menu. Either player can use Keyboard, mouse or gamepad and all controls can be rebinded.
You can also see the current stats and EXP of each player via the Options menu.
Unfortunately, due to current limitations, only one inventory screen can be up at the same time. BUT you can still use the hotkeys to quickly equip your different weapons without going into the inventory and interrupting gameplay.
Stay tuned for details on when this patch will be going live. As with Outbreak: The New Nightmare, local co-op is experimental and you may encounter bugs or other issues. You can expect patches for both titles in the near future as the experience is refined.
Thanks for playing the Outbreak series. The best is still yet to come!
Hello Survivors! I'm happy to announce Outbreak: Epidemic v5.0 has been released! This major content update brings the game into a complete enough state to transition from Early Access to full release! To celebrate the launch, the title will be 40% off during the launch window! Outbreak: Epidemic is a 4-player co-op survival horror adventure (that also plays great solo!) that covers the story of Gwen, Tom, Kara and Renault as they try to escape the epidemic. As they travel across multiple different locations, you'll fight your way through the Campaign, wave-based Onslaught mode and the Experiments scenarios! Outbreak: Epidemic was created by a solo indie developer. Your support means the world and I hope you have a lot of fun with this latest title. I'll keep an eye out for feedback for upcoming updates, new features, content and more! I'm excited to grow the title with the playerbase over the next year! The v5.0 major update includes:
- Six new scenarios across the Tunnels and Streets locations.
- Significant gameplay rebalancing, including optimizing the experience for both solo and co-op players so everyone has a great experience.
- Significant performance upgrades across the title.
- The first batch of DLC that is now available!
- And many more fixes and small enhancements across the entire title.
Hey Survivors! We're happy to announce that Outbreak: Epidemic will leave Steam Early Access on Feb 12th, 2020 with the release of a brand new major content update! It will also release on Xbox One at the same time.
What can we expect in the update?
You'll be fighting across six brand new scenarios in two new locations, the Tunnels and the Streets. After their harrowing escape from the underground morgue and repairing the train, the survivors find themselves trapped in the city's subway system. You'll need to blast your way up to the street-level if you want to escape. Then on the streets, the survivors will be confronted by both defusing a nuclear bomb and repairing their means of escape. This update will bring Outbreak: Epidemic up to 18 total scenarios across the Campaign, Onslaught and Experiments modes. In addition, numerous gameplay fixes, tweaks and minor enhancements are included based on the months of testing the game has gone through. It's going to be a massive expansion to the series.
Why leave Early Access now?
Outbreak: Epidemic will have reached a point with this update that it is fully functional and playable from start to finish. The majority of major bugs have been eliminated and the game plays great in both single-player and up to 4-player co-op. In addition, you have 18 scenarios to fight across (fully in co-op if you choose!). It makes sense to bring the game to a larger audience now.
But is this the end of development for the game?
Of course not! Like all other titles in the Outbreak series, this title will continue to get new content. I'll be looking for the players to suggest in the discussion boards what they'd like to see more of: features, weapons, scenarios or fixes! Your feedback will directly drive where the game goes from here! So grab some friends, get some playtime in and send me your feedback on the forums! Stay tuned for more information leading up to the release, including details on the Deluxe Edition DLC! Thank you for playing Epidemic and the entire Outbreak series. The best is yet to come!
Hey Survivors! It's time again for another Dev Update!
Brand new Steam library art!
All of the Outbreak titles on Steam now have brand new library art for the new Steam UI! Your library will look more beautiful and this art is now consistent with ports of these titles as well!
Progress on New Content
Things are progressing well on brand new scenarios - six to be exact! In the last update, we showed a bit of the underground subway tunnels, and today we're showing a bit of the city location! Get ready to fight the undead on the streets as you race against time before the city is destroyed by the epidemic.
There will be brand new Campaign, Onslaught and Experiments Mode scenarios in the city. The campaign will find the survivors desperately trying to disable a nuclear bomb while also trying to repair a method of escape on a tight timeline. The city campaign scenario is a bit different as the objectives can be tackled in more of a non-linear fashion... although your goals will come together at the end!
The Experiments Mode scenario in the city will task you with eliminating a huge amount of enemies with very limited supplies. If you rush in guns blazing, you will get overwhelmed. Take it slow and plan your attack if you're going to survive. But beware, healing items are very scarce!
Ports
We're happy to announce that the Xbox One port of Epidemic is coming along well. We'll have more details in the coming weeks on timelines for it, but you won't be waiting long.
Thank you!
Thanks again for playing the series and we look forward to surviving with you in 2020 and beyond! We're happy that the series is going strong as the original Outbreak celebrates it's third anniversary!
Hey Survivors! Checking in with a quick dev update on Outbreak: Epidemic!
New Scenarios
Progress is coming along nicely on the brand new location (The Tunnels) and the new scenarios that take place in it. Sometime in the next month or so, you'll be venturing into the subway system after your harrowing efforts to restart a train in the Depths scenario. The survivors are hoping to find help near the city... but unfortunately they'll just be descending further into hell. The Tunnels location will feature a brand new Campaign, Onslaught and Experiments mode scenarios. Stay tuned for details on the Experiments scenario, it's going to be an explosive good time! Check out the screenshots below for your first look!
Console Port
The console port to Xbox One is coming along nicely! It took a bit of resources to get everything set up, but now it's on the horizon. Check out our Discord for more information (link in the forums!). Thanks again for supporting the Outbreak series. Looking forward to surviving with you in 2020 and beyond!
Hey Survivors, It's been a bit since we've last spoken. I'm a solo indie developer working nights and weekends on these games and have been doing so for over four years! In that time, I've really not taken any time off, so in the last few months, I stepped away a bit to recharge. Well, I'm back and work on Outbreak: Epidemic has resumed. In the last month or so, I've been working on the console port to Xbox One. That port has gone very well and I'm happy to say I'm wrapping up the enhancements there and will likely be starting on new content for all platforms in the months ahead. Stay tuned for new details and thanks again to everyone playing Outbreak: Epidemic and all of the other titles in the series. It's been great to meet folks on Discord, hear your thoughts and see all the fun happening! Hang in there, survivors. We're nowhere near done yet!
Hey Survivors,
I've pushed a minor hotfix (v3.1) which fixes an issue where reading notes may softlock the game, or notes may appear in the wrong areas. Thanks to the players in the forums who reported this issue! steamhappy
Hey Survivors!
I'm excited to announce that v3.0 of Outbreak: Epidemic has been released, which features brand new scenarios, enhancements and fixes!
You now have access to the Depths campaign scenario, where the survivors will need to fight through a brutal underground maze to find safe passage into the city subway system. What horror will they uncover as they learn about the government's response to the epidemic? Grab your friends and experience the nightmare!
Next, check out the brand new Death Race experiments scenario! You have limited time to navigate the underground, find a necessary item and return to the train for repairs! Be careful - supply drops are spread thin and in dangerous areas - choose wisely when it's time to restock or when it's time to keep moving!
And finally, experience two brand new Onslaught Mode scenarios as you fight off waves of the undead in the underground!
All this new content takes place in a brand new location! In addition, this patch includes the following:
- Ability to toggle your flashlight. (Bind this key in the Controls menu or restore your controls to default to use it if you've played before!)
- Significant improvements to the spectator view to make it more smooth.
- In-game UI and controls bug fixes to ensure menu navigation works correctly across keyboard and gamepad.
- Significant improvements to enemy pathfinding to reduce cases of them getting stuck on game geometry.
- Firing the shotgun when crouched no longer causes your player's animations to freeze.
- Game size on disk, including memory used during gameplay, has been dramatically reduced.
- Difficulty balancing and minor fixes across the entire game.
Hey Survivors,
Just posting a quick status update. We're still working with Valve on a few backend changes that are necessary before we're ready to push the new content drop, but unfortunately things are taking a tiny bit longer than we expected. Just hang in there and we'll have the content out as soon as we can - hopefully sometime early next week.
Thanks for your patience! :)
Hello Survivors!
We've had an awesome month since Outbreak: Epidemic launched on July 9th! We spent the first half of that month working on patches to address the largest feedback from the community quickly, and now we're happy to announce the next major patch is on the horizon and scheduled for August 9th!
But we have other news to share as well about the long term plans for the game including transitioning from a F2P title to a more classical paid title (and why that decision has bee made, including how Premium Content owners will automatically keep their access to the game). So buckle up and keep reading for all the news!
New Location - The Depths
After the survivors desperate attempt to call for help at the end of the Outbreak Scenario, they eventually learn that there's a military camp situated in a nearby urban center. With the undead roaming the countryside and a lack of a working vehicle, they take to the underground tunnels to try to find a way into the subway system underneath the city. This leads them into the Depths, a dark and desolated underground system where they will learn horrifying truths about how the government tried to mitigate the epidemic. On August 9th, you'll have access to a brand new Campaign scenario, two new Onslaught scenarios, and a new Experiments scenario. The campaign will take the survivors on a desperate quest to repair part of the underground subway system to make their way further into the city.
The new Experiments scenario increases the intensity by giving you 30 minutes to navigate the underground caverns to retrieve a desperately needed item before you make your escape. This guns blazing scenario will force you to move quickly, and carefully determine when you want to stop at a supply drop (scattered throughout the scenario) to re-arm. Be careful though, if you take too long, the caves will fill with gas and you'll be dead quickly.
Patch v3.0
This release on August 9th will come with Patch v3.0, which includes a large amount of small fixes and polish across the entire game (too much to list). It will also include heavily requested options like the ability to toggle your flashlight on or off during gameplay.
Transitioning from Free To Play to a Traditional Paid Title on August 9th
I'm also ready to announce that Outbreak: Epidemic will be transitioning from a F2P title with optional premium content to a more traditional paid title like all of the other games in the Outbreak series. When I was planning to launch Epidemic, my goal was to open it to a larger community and invite everyone to play what was essentially a demo, with the option to upgrade to the full version. After gathering feedback and observing the game's progress over the last month, it was determined that this model ultimately wouldn't allow the development of the game to proceed at the rate I want in the F2P model. It became clear that I would need to go in a route of creating and marketing add-on content like cosmetics to ensure the game remains financially viable, and that effort (with only a single developer working on the game) would greatly interfere with the development roadmap and timelines.
Transitioning to a paid title will allow me to focus on developing the core game experience including new scenarios, while not needing to focus on cosmetic or add-on content too early in the development process. It's definitely understandable if some folks will be unhappy with this decision, but I hope you'll understand that it's the best for the game long-term so it can stay on track and new content can be delivered at a reasonable clip. To be clear - there are no plans to transition back to a F2P title for this game. It ultimately makes more sense as a more classical paid title.
So how will the title work when the patch is released on August 9th?
For people who have purchased the Premium Content DLC, you will get access to the full paid game (as you've already paid for the upgrade). For anyone who has not upgraded to the Premium Content DLC and is only on the F2P version, unfortunately they will lose access to the title unless they purchase it. After speaking with Valve, this seemed like the best compromise for the title to ensure folks who have invested their money in the title get full access and their purchase remains valid.
Thank you!
Thank you to the entire community for supporting the Outbreak series and sharing such passionate feedback about the game. Epidemic has grown by leaps and bounds in the month since it launched and there's plenty of exciting new locations, content and more on the horizon. Thank you! outbreakzombie
Hey Survivors!
We've had an awesome two weeks since Outbreak: Epidemic launched on Early Access! It's been a whirlwind of updates as I've tried to address the most prominent feedback and improve the game! We've had upgrades to gameplay balancing, the camera, the netcode and even a brand new Onslaught scenario!
So it's now time we set our sights on where we're going next. Development for the next major area is now under development. This means the patches won't be daily going forward as scenario development takes time and focus. You can expect to start seeing some screenshots of the brand new area in about a week or so. When will it be released? Too early to say, but I can tell you it won't be too long.
Hang in there and keep playing - and sharing feedback! Remember - if you enjoy the game and feel it deserves it, please consider leaving a positive review. If you hit issues, reach out to me anytime here or on Discord for support!
Thanks again for playing and get ready for a brand new spooky location later this summer!
We're happy to announce that v2.2 of Outbreak: Epidemic has been released!
This patch includes:
- New Onslaught Scenario - Two Stores. Fight the undead in the middle of a strip mall converted to a medical camp by the military shortly after the epidemic occurred. Featuring a large outdoor area with vertical options, as well as two indoor areas you can seamlessly enter and battle the undead in. This location does not take place in the Campaign and is simply a fun bonus map to mix things up!
- Adjusted detection range based on enemy types and other qualifiers to improve some areas where enemies would become confused or stuck.
- Minor cosmetic bug fixes across the scenarios.
We're happy to announce Outbreak: Epidemic v2.1 has been released!
This patch includes adjustments to increase the lethality of all non-reptile enemy types. Their movement speed is buffed and their detection range has been increased. To ensure this doesn't have any negative effects to spawn areas, you'll find the intros to the Tutorial, Outbreak and Darkness scenarios have been mildly changed.
Thanks again for playing and if you're enjoying the game, please be sure to consider leaving a positive review and sharing your thoughts! If you hit any issues, reach out anytime on our official Discord or on the forums and we can help out right away!
We're happy to announce Outbreak: Epidemic v2.0 has been released.
This patch includes the following:
- The player's laser sight will now smoothly update when moving.
- The player camera now locks instantly to the player when rotating by default. This should greatly reduce the feeling of motion sickness. The old camera transition can still be enabled in the Options menu if you liked the slower transition effect.
- Added a camera option to allow camera position transitions to be accelerated. You can enable this in the Options menu if you're interested.
- The EXP & Leveling System has been overhauled to provide a more gentler leveling up curve at the lower levels. As you gain more levels, your progression will slow. You will see your new level reflected the next time you play the game.
- Fixed an issue in the upstairs warehouse where enemies could become trapped on a chain link fence.
- Leveling up is now reflected correctly mid-game, including having new buffs applied from the increased level.
- Adjusted ammo amounts across the game.
We're happy to announce v1.9 of Outbreak: Epidemic has released!
This patch includes the following:
- When picking up stackable items, your inventory now more efficiently combines them with existing stacks before allocating to a new stack.
- Slightly buffed ammo counts on Realism Mode across all scenarios.
- Player facing the camera at all times is now enabled by default. This option can be changed in the Options menu. There will be no change if you've manually set this setting in the past.
- Adjusted melee weapon damage in Realism Mode to ensure the Fire Axe and Sledgehammer are superior to the Knife for Renault.
- Fixed numerous clipping issues on the multi-level warehouse.
- Magnum damage now behaves properly on Realism Mode.
We're happy to announce Outbreak: Epidemic v1.8 has been released!
This patch includes:
- Adjusted handgun damage on Realism Mode to typically take at least 2-3 headshots to kill most low-level zombies with the Handgun. Characters with Handgun buffs will kill faster, those with debuffs will kill slower.
- Weapons of the same type can now be combined to share ammo directly from the inventory.
- When selecting a gun in your inventory, an Unload button will appear that will empty all remaining ammo if you have room. As a reminder, you can also combine a gun with an empty slot to unload its ammo.
- Reduced Onslaught Mode wave intermission times in co-op. There is now less of a break between waves in co-op to keep the game moving at a good pace. Single-player still has the longer intermission times to give the player more of an opportunity to survive.
- Fixed issues where guns would not detect hits on enemies due to other collisions intercepting the shot.
- Fixed an issue where using a puzzle item may be unresponsive if there is other interactables nearby.
We're pleased to announce v1.7 of Outbreak: Epidemic has been released. This patch includes improvements to the camera system - namely allowing you to set camera distance and height! You can change these directly in the Options menu or change them ingame via the new key bindings (check the Controls menu)!
This patch also includes some fixes to the Tom model to adjust how he holds both the Handgun and SMG to make aiming more natural. It also includes some item text fixes to clearly denote melee weapons only usable by Renault.
Thanks again for playing! Remember - if you're enjoying the game and feel it deserves it, please consider filing a positive review. If you hit any issues, please reach out to me before filing a negative review as I may be able to help fix it! :)
Reach out anytime in the forums or on our official Discord! See the forums for the link to the Discord.
Thanks and have fun! :)
We're happy to announce v1.6 of Outbreak: Epidemic has been released! This patch greatly focuses on improving the single-player experience.
When playing in Single-Player Mode, you will now have a much larger inventory by default to offset your lack of teammates. Characters like the Renegade will still get their inventory buffs, but now this makes most of the other characters viable!
In addition, on Easy and Normal difficulty, you will now find more supplies on both Realism Mode and Arcade Mode, and encounter fewer powerful enemies when you're assaulted by mobs. This primarily took the form of reducing the number of Reptiles thrown at you at once in set piece moments.
Thank you everyone for your feedback! We've had an awesome week of growth for the game! Remember - if you're enjoying the game, be sure to leave a positive review and share your thoughts. If you hit issues, bugs, or have feedback, reach out to me anytime before filing a negative review - I might be able to help fix it quick!
Also, we pushed a quick patch v1.61 that allows you to disable the Weather in the Options menu. This may help with lower-end computers trying to run the game. Enjoy!
Note 2 - We just released v1.62 which fixed the issue where changing your player side (left or right) in the main menu didn't work correctly.
We're happy to announce the v1.5 patch for Outbreak: Epidemic is released! This release contains a major new feature - realism mode - based on the huge amount of feedback we've received.
Please post feedback on Realism Mode here!
This patch includes:
- Realism Mode - This brand new way of playing Outbreak: Epidemic notches up the realism by significantly boosting headshot damage - meaning many standard enemies could be killed in a single well placed headshot. But as a trade-off, you now have much less resources to work with. You need to make every bullet count if you want to survive. Advanced monsters can still take a beating, but your only way to defeat them is by going for the head! NOTE: Like the old way Epidemic played? It's still available - just switch back to Arcade Mode in your game lobby!
- Fixed an issue where quick weapon switching could happen while menus are up.
- The blood effects when you take damage are now toned way down and will not obscure much of the screen.
- Weapons now zoom in when aiming.
- A rare issue where flashlights would become very dim is fixed.
We're happy to announce Outbreak: Epidemic v1.4 has been released. This patch includes new functionality that has been highly requested - the ability to always face the camera and to switch the side your player appears on. Keep submitting feedback!
Remember, if you're enjoying the game and feel it deserves it, please consider filing a positive review and sharing your thoughts. If you hit any issues, please reach out prior to a negative review to see if we can address your issue!
This patch includes:
- Players can now change their view to always have the character face the camera direction. You can set this setting in the Options menu or change it during gameplay anytime via the new key binding. NOTE: If you played Outbreak: Epidemic before, you will need to either reset controls to default or manually bind to use this functionality in realtime.
- Players can now set their player position on either the left or right side of the screen. You can set this in the Options menu or change it during gameplay anytime via the new key binding. NOTE: If you played Outbreak: Epidemic before, you will need to either reset controls to default or manually bind to use this functionality in realtime.
- The music toggle in the Options menu now clearly displays whether the music is enabled or disabled on the button text.
- You can now bind the B button on your gamepad in the Controls menu.
- Weather effects now follow properly in spectator view and correctly shut off when your spectated target is indoors.
We're pleased to announce Outbreak: Epidemic v1.2 has been released with some highly requested features!
- Players can now equip/switch weapons realtime without using their inventory in the Handgun, Shotgun/SMG, Power & Melee categories via new bindings. NOTE: You need to either reset the game controls to default OR bind these functions if you've played Outbreak: Epidemic before. Inventory cooldown times still apply on weapon switching.
- Players can now sprint using the new Run binding. Players have a limited amount of stamina that allows them to sprint which automatically recharges when they are not sprinting. NOTE: You need to either reset the game controls to default OR bind the Run function directly to use it.
- Player movement speeds have been adjusted. When aiming or crouching, players move at reduced speed. Players cannot sprint while aiming or crouching.
- The default key bindings for Keyboard & Gamepad have been changed due to the new functionality above. It is highly recommended you reset your controls to default in the Controls menu if you've played Outbreak: Epidemic before.
- All weapons are now available for trial on the Tutorial scenario.
Hi All,
Thank you for all the feedback everyone has been sharing over the past day since release. It's been great to see so many folks playing and enjoying Epidemic.
I have taken some time to go through as many of the reviews as I could and gather up some quick fixes to help improve the game experience (like mouse sensitivity, volume settings, glare intensity and more!). Other areas I'll be working on next include weapon switching, and a few other hotly requested features.
In the meantime, enjoy the fixes in v1.1 which is now available.
- Game version bumped to v1.1. You must update to play with other players running this version.
- Minor buff to player movement speed. NOTE: This will continue to be evaluated, including potential run functionality, in future patches. The goal is to find the middle ground where movement feels swift but players do not have too great speed versus their enemies.
- Mouse sensitivity added to the Controls menu.
- Game Volume can now be more discretely set from 0-10. NOTE: You will need to reset your volume to your desired level on next game load if you've played Outbreak: Epidemic before.
- Enemies can no longer be incapacitated prior to death. The first time an enemy is knocked down, it is truly dead and will not reanimate.
- Player damage buffed on Easy (+35% total) and Normal Difficulty (+20% total).
- Lowered the intensity of general environment lighting in many locations.
- Lowered the intensity of the player's flashlight.
- Lumberjack life leech changed to 20% per level.
- An additional Aid Spray added earlier in the Outbreak scenario.

Get Outbreak: Epidemic on Steam
Purchase the Premium Content on Steam - 30% off launch week!
Welcome to Outbreak: Epidemic. The first time you load up Epidemic's F2P version (without the Premium Content DLC installed), you'll be faced with a tremendously difficult decision. You'll need to pick your survivor - a permanent choice that you'll need to live with as long as you stick to the F2P version of the game. The survivor you pick in the F2P version will only have access to their starting class and can only level up to Level 4.
Note: You can unlock access to ALL characters, classes and the ability to start games on Biohazard or Nightmare difficulty by purchasing the Premium Content DLC.
It is highly recommended that you take a minute to visit the "Characters & Upgrades" screen before making this selection. You can view all of the character classes there and their starting stats. Your choices on the main menu are:
- Gwen - Survivor Class
- Tom - Marksman Class
- Kara - Reporter Class
- Renault - Renegade Class
What's the difference between the F2P version and the Premium Content?
In a nutshell, the F2P version allows you to play on ANY game mode or scenario either alone or with up to three additional friends. The limitations in this version is that you are forced to select a single survivor and you can only level up to level 4. You also cannot start games on the Biohazard or Nightmare difficulty BUT you can join other games hosted by users on those difficulties. Essentially in the F2P version - you can always play with your friends - no matter if they're on F2P or have the Premium Content installed.
Why did you choose to restrict these portions of the game in the F2P version?
Restricting the characters, classes and higher difficulties options, but allowing you to play on any game mode, scenario or join all games was designed to ensure that everyone has plenty of content to play and to help grow the player population. For folks who enjoy the game and experience, they can choose to upgrading using the Premium Content DLC and gain full access to all characters, their classes, the ability to level up to level 10 and start games on Biohazard or Nightmare difficulty.
What can I expect as the game continues to develop in Early Access?
You can expect more scenarios for Campaign, Onslaught and Experiments modes. New enemies, weapons, items and more. Polish to the entire game experience will continue, including gameplay tweaks, performance enhancements, etc... And best of all, we want YOUR feedback to determine how to prioritize this work and what you'd like to see added. Feel free to sound off on our Discussion Boards! Have fun and make sure to tell your friends! We're looking forward to surviving and growing this game experience with you in the year to come!
