Inside The Coma #7: Please meet Miyeong, Eunae & Narsha!


Welcome to our seventh issue of "Inside The Coma"! After escaping from The Coma, Youngho returns to school and, having forgotten about his horrifying experience, starts growing interested in girls, as adolescent boys do. At Youngho's school, many girls who seem to be friends with him! Firstly, there's Mina from Class C. Mina is also the protagonist of The Coma 2, and a childhood friend of Youngho's from the same neighborhood who he's been close to for a long time. They're in different classes on different floors, so their interactions have become less frequent, but they still walk to school together.
Miyeong is a good student in her class, perhaps it's because she spends all her time studying. She takes her grades and achievements very seriously, studying at various tutoring academies until late at night. Although she is sometimes embarrassed by the boys who approach her, she is usually calm, intelligent, and even arrogant at times. In Youngho's class is a girl from the United States, called Narsha. She is very outgoing, sociable, and good-looking, which makes her popular with many of the boys. She even seems to have potential as a K-pop idol, but considering that idol wannabes usually start training in middle school, it might be a little too late. Inside The Coma #6: Please meet Yaesol!


Welcome to our sixth issue of "Inside The Coma"! Yaesol is a prominent enough character to be recognized as Dvora Studio's mascot. She is shrouded in mystery, and information such as her attire, age, and origins are all shrouded in secrecy. This mysterious girl appeared in The Coma 1 with an aura of mystery, and throughout the game she revealed various information and saved the protagonist in times of crisis. In The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters, she's back to help the other protagonist and guided her through her adventures.
In The Coma 2B: Catacomb, you'll hear more about her past. In this story, you'll meet a character from her past, and you'll also see the protagonist, Youngho, panicking. Inside The Coma #4: Please meet Youngho!


Everything could be a spoiler! But I will still give a brief introduction of Youngho, because this high school freshman is the protagonist of the last game, The Coma 1, as well as the protagonist of this game. To recap The Coma 1 without giving away any spoilers I'll just say this much: he's a student at Sehwa Private High School, and he's only been in high school for a few months. The Korean Education System usually enrolls new students in March and have their final exams around the end of June, so it's been about 3.5 months.
For some unforeseen reason, Youngho falls asleep during the exam (or maybe it's after?) and ends up in the mirror dimension "The Coma". There, he encounters monsters and ghosts ... and eventually has to escape the nightmare school, which is the story of The Coma 1, although a lot of it is left out ... He doesn't have any special powers, but his indomitable will and observation skills help him get through the crisis. In this new game, we get to know Youngho's family history and background indirectly, which helps us understand how he has this personality and mindset. There are subtle differences between Youngho's personality in The Coma 1 and Youngho's personality in The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters. It can be said that he has grown a bit more, and the reason why is revealed in The Coma 2B: Catacomb. So, stay tuned! Talk to you again really soon! Inside The Coma #3: The Order of The Coma explained


Welcome to our third issue of "Inside The Coma"! The Coma 2B: Catacomb is separate from the sequential flow of previous works. If The Coma 1 and 2 came out, shouldn't a third The Coma be coming out now? Not necessarily, because there are some important and mysterious gaps between the first and second that we want to fill. The Coma 2B: Catacomb needs to be a bridge between the first game and second one, but it also needs to be a game for both newcomers to the world of The Coma who have only seen it on YouTube, and players who have enjoyed the first two games and are looking for a new instalment.

As you'll know if you've played The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters, the protagonist is a girl named Mina, who is neighbours and long-time friends with the protagonist of the first game. Their escape story is told in The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters, but it was not from Youngho's perspective, so a lot of things are left unexplained. The Coma 2B: Catacomb begins with both the normal and true ending of The Coma 1. Many people were curious about the true ending, which was included in the remastered version of The Coma 1. It was clear that Youngho had escaped from the world of The Coma! So it was the purpose of this game's introduction to deal with both different endings. The opening sequence is a bit old-school style, but if you remember your slow and boring high school life, you'll be able to spot the oddities. Due to the chronological order, if you're wondering which game to play first between The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters and The Coma 2B: Catacomb, I'd recommend playing The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters first, as many of the things that you thought were disconnected or weird will be revealed in The Coma 2B: Catacomb. If you decide you want to play The Coma 2B: Catacomb first, feel free to do so; you'll be able to play The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters from an omniscient writer's perspective then. Inside The Coma #2: Back when The Coma began


Welcome to our second issue of "Inside The Coma"! This time it's about how The Coma series began almost 10 years ago. Surprisingly, The Coma series is already on its third instalment. Surprisingly because back then I would never have dreamed what would come of our debut game. The Coma 1 has fairly classic graphics, but a lot of players love it for its own unique artwork and style, and many people still get a kick of playing it.
The beauty of this game series, and I'm a little embarrassed to say this as a director, is that many people have said that this "horror" game doesn't trigger unpleasant emotions and fears so much that it makes you stop playing, but rather draws you into the story, painting a picture of overcoming your fears and overcoming adversity to reach the ending. At the end of the game, instead of thinking, "Wow, this game was really scary", the players think, "Wow, the story of the main character was interesting". This narrative is all the more interesting because it starts with an episode of an ordinary high school student in a unique and exotic culture.
As you follow the story of the main character, who may be living in a completely different culture, you gain information and knowledge that you didn't know before, and you endure the fear and experience the process with him. The game isn't scary enough to appear in your dreams, but it does send players into a panic in some situations. The traps are easy to overcome, and the controls aren't difficult. But when the killer appears and chases you when you least expect it, you'll find yourself making mistakes that you shouldn't, and you'll be gasping for breath over and over again.
Why are you suffering so much for a trap that you could have easily avoided? The constantly dark environment and physically limited left and right field of view keep you on your toes, even though the game is 2D and has a third-person perspective. The game is nowhere near as good as the first and second instalments, but it's laying the groundwork for the series to expand a bit more. The series is very interesting to me, and it has great potential because it combines the society I live in, my own past experiences, and the stories I hear from the current young generation. I don't know how many more great stories I can come up with, but I'm racking my brain. Talk to you again really soon! Inside The Coma #1: Meet The Coma-Developer Dvora Studio!


Happy Friday, Ghost Vigilantes! Before unleashing The Coma 2B. Catacomb later this year, we want to tell you more about the game with the "Inside The Coma" update series. But not only about the game, but also about us: Dvora Studio - the team behind titles like Vambrace, Scarlet Hood and - of course - The Coma. Dvora Studio was founded on the 28th August 2015, but I spent one year working in cafes in order to make the first game in the Coma Series. The formal company name was Devespresso Games (Dev + Espresso Coffee), as this was what shaped the first few years of my indie game development life. I changed the name to Dvora Studio later on, because it was easier to remember. Back then, we struggled to secure a programmer who could actually build the game. I'm a graphic artist with a bunch of cool stories, but I need to have someone who actually create the games with me. Those seats were taken by two programmer friends, who were later replaced by my cousin, and eventually filled with three indie game programmers now. To create the narrative stories and events, I requested custom modules and DB forms to shape the visuals of the games by myself for Vambrace: Cold Soul, The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters, and Scarlet Hood and the Wicked Wood. It added a lot to my workload, but I think it was possible because I wasn't married with kids back then, because it was so rewarding to work day and night to get the game done and to share the story and the characters and the world with gamers.
T. L. Riven and KYNO have been a huge part of that journey. They've kept my imagination and inspiration flowing and helped me stay on track to keep making games. The stories that T. L. Riven has built on top of my ideas have been amazing and exciting, and he's gone on to do some amazing things as a game writer and is now a game producer for another company. KYNO is now a brand new game designer, designing and creating sophisticated and highly playable games. Im grateful that the games we make have been described by many as having 'unique artwork, beautiful music, and immersive, detailed worlds', which has led to a lot of people who love and remember these game worlds (The Coma Series & Vambrace Saga), and it's a pleasure to work for them. Now I'm married, and I'm a dad with two babies to look after. Obviously, I look at the world differently, I have a different sense of purpose, and making a game with those experiences adds a different depth than before. I want to continue to make games that people remember. I want to make games for as long as I have the energy. There are currently six developers working at the company, including myself, and we're braving the unbearably hot Korean summer weather. I know a lot of people are surprised at how six people can produce two game projects, but it's actually happening. We have a lot of ideas in our heads, and we can't wait to show them off. Synopsis


Scarlet Hood and the Wicked Wood is the story of a young woman who finds herself tossed into the magical realm of Glome by a rogue tornado. It is there she must take up the mantle of the Red Witch and learn to wield her powerful Womping Stick to help a troupe of lost Munchkin safely navigate their way through the perilous domain of the Black Witch, LeFaba. The evil sorceress has no qualms about destroying any unwary intruders that trespass in The Wicked Wood. While Scarlet may be completely outmatched, she soon learns a recursion hex has her reliving the same day. Can she use her newfound powers and the knowledge gained from her previous lives to outwit LeFaba and lead the troupe to safety?

Many of you may be wondering what to expect this time around. If youre a fan of puzzle-solving/adventure games youll feel right at home in The Wicked Wood. This game has more puzzles than you can shake a stick at. There are also multiple paths to success featuring 10 unique endings to be unlocked. But just because this game more heavily focuses on puzzles doesnt mean that it skimps on action; youll have to avoid the bumbling Dodobo, mischievous Monkeyta, and a relentless wolf to survive this forest.

Synopsis:

Rejoice! Version 1.0.5 is officially live. We did the following:

FULL RELEASE ON JANUARY 28th


We are happy to announce that the game's FULL RELEASE will be on JANUARY 28TH. Putting the DEFINITIVE version of the game out there in the wild is an exciting milestone for the team. We just can't wait for players to see what awaits them. We've been hard at work putting the final level of polish on the game in anticipation for this full release. Everything else has been building to this moment since we launched the game in Early Access on November 7th. Since that time, your feedback has helped shape the game in ways we would have never foreseen. We wanted to make sure everyone had a reason to return - even veteran players. So, there's A LOT of new content coming your way. Here's just a taste:

  • An all-new ending & theme song.
  • New voices.
  • Secret rooms waiting to be discovered.
  • All bonus main screen wallpapers.
  • Artbook and original game soundtrack.
  • New "kill screens" (poor Mina).

Update 0.3.2 is Live!


Hello folks, Patch 0.3.2 just went live. So, what can you expect from the latest update? Lets get into it:

  • Police Offices front yard was cleaned: Some of the suspense felt a bit weird when Mina observes strange vines outside the police station. This has been cleared away. In addition, weve added a few other details like a street light, police office deck, and other road decorations.
  • Added a Right-wing to the Old School: The save point and hiding spot was altered slightly and we added a new floor before the mystery room.
  • Audio mixer arrangements & volume was edited.
  • The English and Korean loc text were updated. Youll find the script becoming more refined with added nuance or misunderstood lines being removed.
  • Voices and SFX for the Killer(s) have been added and edited.
  • The Ultimate Killers now has a unified BG color change when the game transitions to her appearance.
  • Theres a new sound effect for Mina when she dies in the final fight. Pity the girl!
  • The puzzle of the Old Library has been refined.
  • Mouse roll-over bug on the Game Over & Pause menu was fixed.

DLC


A lot of rumors and questions have been floating around about DLC for The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters. Please keep in mind that were trying to do everything in stride and deliver the best content possible with what we have (4 guys working round the clock). Our top priority, at the moment, is making sure the games full launch goes well! That said, the current DLC we have planned is a new costume pack for Mina. No announcements to be made yet about what costumes will be in the pack or how many though!

0.3.1 Hotfix


Hey folks, The first hotfix for the latest update is here. Please see what we addressed below.

  • The 10th note of the final chapter will now appear in the hall leading to the Old School after you have experienced the events there.
  • Added/edited character dialogue portraits.
  • The Spectral Incense wasnt working during Chances event. This was fixed.
  • Glitches for door sounds & event icons were fixed.
  • Korean localization text was polished.
  • Chinese localization text was polished.
  • [BUG / Spoiler] In 0.3.0, Your character freezes when you get down while swinging your axe after loading. This was fixed.
  • Collecting all notes unlocks the inner bonus, but this wasnt shown until you restarted.. Now it unlocks instantly.
Please remember that we are ACTIVELY updating the game and that it is still in Early Access. If you have discovered a frustrating bug, let us know in the discussion forums so we can patch it. We are listening.

The end is nigh!


Tomorrow, we release Patch 0.3.0 of The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters. The final chapter of Minas journey is finally revealed. Now its time for you to finish the fight! Can you survive the peril that awaits? The Patch goes live on December 28th: USA - 6AM Eastern Standard Time GERMANY - 12 PM Central European Time RUSSIA - 2 PM Moscow Standard Time CHINA - 7 PM China Standard Time KOREA - 8 PM Korea Standard Time While the game will be fully playable from beginning to end, we must note that it's STILL in Early Access. That means it won't have the extra content we're planning to implement before the full launch - trust us, there are some pretty sweet goodies in store for our most devoted players. The game is still 20% off for the Steam Winter Sale. Jump in while you can because all Early Access users are getting the Game Soundtrack and Art Book free - our personal way to do right by the players who have graciously supported us throughout the game's rough development cycle.

Text Patch Is Live

Update 0.2.5 is live - Including the next 3 Chapters!

Howdy Folks! Version 0.2.5 is officially here! We hope you're as excited to jump into the next 3 chapters of the game as we are to share them. In addition to that content, we've also done extensive QOL work on the first 3 chapters and the game as a whole. We were able to accomplish this with the community's invaluable feedback. Please continue to share your opinions or any bugs you find through Discord [www.discord.gg/devespresso] or right here on the Steam Discussion boards. We have done multiple playthroughs where we don't encounter any significant issues. We still stumble across the odd bug or typo here and there though. Remember, the game is still in Early Access until January. So, you can expect to encounter a few hiccups. If you do, please report it and we'll patch it right away. IF you do encounter an issue, it will probably fall into one of these categories:

  • Minor graphical glitches
  • Typos in the script
  • Random bugs
  • Aberrant or missing sound effects
  • An AI that doesn't always function as intended
  • Missing content (Bonus wallpapers, etc.)
Finally, onto some of the fixes. Frankly, they're too numerous to really outline, but here are the major changes:

  • So many lines of dialogue from Chapters 1-3 were adjusted to either serve their intended nuances or fix typos.

CRAFTING


  • Double-crafting bug Fixed
  • Crafting after the chapter bug fixed
  • Crafting Difficulty corrected - it will be more challenging.
  • Crafting Resource loot events will be disabled after each chapter.

STORY


  • [Chapter 1]: We made the Storage Room telescope functional in The Coma since most gamers skip it entirely in the Waking World.
  • [Chapter 3]: Fixed apothecary scenario skip to pick up the Grimseng.
  • [Chapter 3]: One more note was added about the Dokkaebi.
  • Language Update: General fixes and adjustments

  • Logo image correction (Size and spelling)
  • Erased the herbal stores background.
  • The Butchers animations were improved.

Howdy yall! Tris here with another patch update. The theme for patch was rebalancing. Aside from that, weve also added some pretty cool new content into the mix. We hope everybody gets a kick out of it. Without further ado:

  • The Butcher: We added a bloodlusted Butcher who will chase you throughout the Market before Songs arrival.
  • Manhwa Cutscenes: All new cutscenes were added and others were polished.
  • Expanded School Quest: New drama unfolds between the teachers of Sehwa High.
  • New Quest Text: English and Korean quest text is finished. Its a work in progress for the other languages.
  • Black Cat: A cute black cat was added to the market. Can you spot him?
  • School Toilet Entering Directions are fixed.
  • Police direction is fixed.
  • School security office fixed / It wont open unless you have the keycard.
  • Police Office Monster Patrol waypoint group has been updated. Dark Song will patrol more intelligently.
  • Market Monster Patrol waypoint group has been updated. Dark Song will patrol more intelligently..
  • The Shady Engineer (Noteman) in the Market will continue the conversation, so players may inquire about the sticky trap more easily.
  • Dark Songs (Zero) detection range: 4000 -> 3000
Loot: Loot was reduced by 40%. Most loot drops will be coins, matches, and water. When it comes to food, you probably need to purchase that at a vending machine. Inventory GUI: Inventory GUI was updated. Now, you can only have 1 mace canister at a time. However, it will not use up a slot of your inventory (like coins). The logic being that its small, but complicated enough to use that Mina wouldnt know how to fumble around with 2 bottles in an emergency. Some dialogue directional boxes have been toward to wrong character. It fixed. Korean Localization Fix:

    Launch Confusion!

    Whats up everybody? Wed like to give a big thanks to everyone who supported us yesterday for the official Early Access launch. Weve already received a lot of helpful feedback and have rolled out a small patch in response. This includes writing out detailed information that is only included on Early Access pages. That is nowhere to be found right now. Weve contacted the good folks at Valve to help us address this issue and to make sure the game has the right status. To reiterate, this is NOT the full release of the game. Our intention is for The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters to be in the first phase of Early Access, which will last until the games full launch in January 2020.     Halloween may be over, but that doesn't mean the scares have to end. Devespresso Games takes its first leap into Early Access with The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters. But this won't be your typical Early Access experience. We've got some goodies in store for players who want to jump into the Coma experience before the game's "full" launch in January. What do you get? First of all, the game is going to have a pretty good discount at $11.99. The full price is set for $14.99 in January.     Hey guys! The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters Early Access launch is right around the corner and were super stoked that the community will soon be able to experience another night of terror at Sehwa High. This represents a momentous occasion for our team. We got our start in the gaming industry in 2015 with our first title, The Coma: Cutting Class. Since then, weve had the privilege of making The Coma: Recut (a remastered version of Cutting Class) and, most recently, Vambrace: Cold Soul. Old questions will be answered and new mysteries revealed as you journey beyond the confines of the first games setting, Sehwa High, and into the surrounding district. As Mina Park, youll encounter a new cast of characters while being avoiding Dark Song.
    Evading her is more of a challenge this time around though; as Vicious Sisters influence grows over a new domain, Dark Songs strength will also increase. Furthermore, if youre unprepared for unique survival encounters, you may take permanent battle-damage that will haunt you for the rest of the night.     Try Coma 2: Vicious Sisters at PAX West!


    Devespresso Games made its gaming debut 4 years ago with The Coma: Cutting Class. The game followed the story of Youngho, a hapless student who finds himself trapped in a nightmarish version of his high school. Our team's journey, as fledgling game developers, has been an incredible learning experience since we launched with The Coma. We are now excited to announce that we will be collaborating with Indie MegaBooth to bring The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters to PAX West. This will officially mark the game's playable debut. It will be available as part of the MiniBooth showcase on Friday, August 30th and Saturday, August 31st from 9AM - 5PM. Tristan will also be available around the expo site on Sunday and Monday. The games booth will be located on the 4th floor in the Main Expo Hall. We're eager to connect with fellow gamers and hope you will be among the first players to try it out!   • Mina Park, a student of Sehwa High, awakens at night in her school. It isn’t long before she realizes that something is amiss. The once-familiar school where she spends her evenings studying looks twisted by something dark and sinister. She finds herself pursued by someone or something that looks eerily like her teacher. To survive, Mina must venture beyond the boundaries of her school and into the surrounding district. There, she will encounter strange creatures, mysterious strangers, and uneasy allies.
