Leaderboards got a big update! They are now delineated by player count, not by difficulty setting.
So, there's a leaderboard for Distance - 1 Player, Distance - 2 Players, Distance - 3 Players, etc etc up till 8 Players. Here's an example of the Distance - 1 Player Leaderboard:
Next up, the Results screen got a little update too:
A couple bug fixes were put in too that were found during Emerald City Comicon last December. Fun!
Go get those LONGEST RUNS on that DISTANCE board!!!
Little updates in this latest version 2.0.1:
Now the player score background box is highlighted in their color in Collect Mode. You can easily see at-a-glance who to keep away from Photons in that high stakes match!
Speaking of at-a-glance updates, your name is now highlighted in yellow on the Leaderboards for an easier find!
Bug fix: When a Tie Breaker would occur in Round Mode, the level would continue to make that pattern and there was a bug that no pattern would follow it. So it filled the Title screen with blocks and dumped a a bunch of errors until a different pattern was loaded. That is now fixed up, as you can see here by a level building itself post-Tie Breaker ending:
Be sure to update right away to get the latest and greatest!
Version 2.0.0 of CD-RUN is now available!
Here's what is new:
Support added for 11 more languages. CD-RUN can be played in: English, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Spanish, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Chinese (Simplified) and Korean!
Added a new game mode: Collect. Little photons of light are floating around the CD player in this mode and your goal is to collect 100 of them before your opponents! The matches keep playing until 100 photons are collected.
New pattern type: Barrier. This vertical floating wall will definitely change how you approach slipping through the cracks to keep alive.
You'll see Collect Mode as an option on the Game Mode screen. View Achievements has been moved out of Options and is now on the Game Mode screen, next to View Leaderboards.
Level generator touch up. The big Bluff patterns occur less and other tweaks have been made to make the level more fair over time.
Added Analytics on Steam, non-personal.
- Game match data - Game Type, Win Amount, Difficulty, Tie Match, Team Mode, Player Amount, Language, Match Time, Match Distance
- Player cosmetic and statistical data - Eyes, Mouth, Color, Score, Result Place, Total Score, Distance Traveled, Play Time

Work is progressing nicely on the project! I was a bit overwhelmed with the idea of having CD-RUN localized but after looking into it, found out it wasn't so bad after all. It's quite a "small" game in terms of words and strings.
There'll be support for 12 languages over all, nicely summed up in the name acronym: PREFIG J SHUCK:
Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, English, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Spanish, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Chinese (Simplified), and Korean.
Here's a few screen shots of the title screen:
Hope that all reads correctly. I don't think the company who translated it played a joke on me ;)
Added Elecom and Unknown Controller support.
Update Notes: Keyboard player support on Steam. Keyboard key maps for the player are available to change in the Options menu. Updated CPU players some more (tweaks to personalities and having them more "aware" of the match situation). Fixed bug where in Distance mode the camera speed could increase to faster than a player can run and they weren't able to keep up. Fixed workaround bug for adding CPU players. Now it's squeaky clean.
Coming soon to CD-RUN: keyboard support!
One player will be able to use the keyboard while other players can use controllers.
I've got some good feedback from folks who've been using it. Hopefully It'll be released next week.
Fixed up a bug in Distance mode where the camera would get faster than the max speed of the players.
When you're on the Join screen, simply hit the Y button to enable teams. They'll be based on color of the players so you can easily stick together in a match.
Team sizes can be any amounts from 1 to 7 players per team. As you can see below there's 4 teams: Red vs Green vs Blue vs Teal.
In a match things will start out pretty easy going:
Then, inevitably get pretty intense:
And the match is over when you've got all players of the same team left on the screen:
They'll get there:

So give Team Mode a go and share your experiences! CD-RUN is best enjoyed with friends and yelling and screaming :)

CD-RUN Release version: 1.9.0
- Team Mode has been added for Round and Score type games!
- When team mode is enabled, when you press "Random" for player facial features, it will keep the same color of the team you are on.
- CPU teams will be added in size by the largest amount of players on a team. So if there are two people on the Blue team and they add CPU players, it will add two CPU players with a random team color. If three players, then three CPU players.
- Some level patterns are shorter in height when team mode is enabled to encourage teamwork and not totally wrecking everyone else quickly in a match.
- The Distance game type has had an overhaul. It is now a cooperative mode where all the runners are on the same side and attempt to get the longest run where the score is sent to a leaderboard, delineated by game difficulty: easy, normal, or hard.
- When a player is out of the match, they will enter a queue and rejoin the match after a few seconds.
- When a run in Distance is completed, the score will be uploaded as your personal best to the leaderboards on the platform you play. The player who is signed in at the time is the one who receives the credit for the run.
- Unique CPU Color flag: when you add CPU players, you have the option to try to make their color different than the existing human players colors.
- A new race song has been added. Six race songs in total now!
- The CD logo on the title screen can be spun for fun.
- Both the L and R buttons allow the user to run now too.
- The level used to have six block type graphics on it, now there are 8. One of them was removed and replaced too as it looked odd when traveling at high speed in a level.
- Xbox button iconography on the Xbox platform!
- Gradual difficulty is now present in the generated level. There are some circumstances that allow you to easily kill all your opponents which have been toned down until the distance traveled is 100 or more. Which is when the pits start. Enjoy!
- Bug Fixes:
- When the level would move at high speeds and a "Next Track" behavior occurred, it would skip placing the level column correctly and make it look like the level was "catching up with itself". This has been fixed as the level movement has been optimized.
- You could earn a lot of achievements by simply having the CPU players play. This has been fixed to where only one achievement can be unlocked based on CPU play, the rest must have a player playing in a match now.
- The CPU players have been fine tuned a little bit more.
- Overall game speed has upped.
From Stikz: There's so much more to this game. It's simple tactics but you can really mess people up! Also Stikz laughs on end for like 2 minutes after a victory. CD-RUN came out in October 2019. Since then there's been a lot of updates with new content, features and bug fixes! Since releasing CD-RUN, here's a list of changes and additions:
- New Faces
- New Level Pattern
- Scratched Disc!
- Added a Discord Server
- In-match Laser
- Color Blind Mode
- Changed input to utilize DirectInput
- UI updates to the menus
New faces
In version 1.6.0 two new looks were added:
New Level Pattern
Also in 1.6.0 I added in new level pattern called a Bluff! These are a pain to climb up when the match is going really quick! Keep on your toes on this one or you'll get caught up and pulled back:
Scratched Disc!
When a level abruptly ends, it's from a scratched disc! It had always happened in game, but the update now announced to the players that they're getting the shaft: [previewyoutube=GPlMPXHsDZY;leftthumb][/previewyoutube]
Added a Discord Server
This one is pretty self descriptive, click to stop on over and have a chat:
LASER
Added a laser in version 1.7.0. The laser doesn't hurt anyone, but all CD players have lasers...or else they wouldn't work! Keep running buddies:
Color Blind Mode
In version 1.8.0 I added in Color Blind Mode to help players with differentiating the Bits on the screen. After getting feedback from my pal about it, I implemented it up and he said it helped out a lot, so I'm glad he let me know!
Updated the Windows builds to use DirectInput
After getting feedback from some players about the XInput cap of 4 controllers max in a game, I updated the game with their suggestion to use DirectInput. Sure we lose Steam controller support and Steam Link but I felt it was more important to get more XInput compatible controllers allowable in each match as that'll be most cases.
UI Menu Updates
And most recently, in version 1.8.2 all the menus were updated to have the "B" button go back to the previous screen. Previously, there was a Back button to navigate to in each menu and that took up space, had to be walked to to leave a screen, and wouldn't allow any screen growth for future releases.
That's a lot for a part-time gig! Whew! Along the way, there's been a lot of bugs fixed, testing done, and feedback given. Everyone has been very helpful with every step, it's been amazing to experience. There's more of CD-RUN to come, so keep your eyes peeled and keep running!
Small but thorough update for CD-RUN: The Menu Update!
Previously, on all the menus, there was a Back button on the bottom of the selection.
Now, there's just the Back button you can press at any time:
On the Options screen:
Achievements screen:
The Hub:
And the Join screen:
Why do this? Well, it will be helpful to have a dedicated Back button to press rather than a menu Back button to have to navigate to when there is a long list of things to choose from.
But Mike, you ask, There aren't any menus with long lists of things to choose from, are there?
I laugh with internal company-man knowledge that soon there might be another option on the bottom of the Join screen Back footer. Mwa ha ha ha ha!
Woah...got kinda evil bad guy there for a moment! More to come soon!
Turns out I didn't fully realize or understand the hard limit of 4 XInput compatible controllers in Windows boxes. I thought if you plugged them in it wouldn't be a limit, but no way. I also wished I had borrowed enough Xbox & PS4 controllers when testing it.
After some invaluable feedback from a player I took out XInput and utilize DirectInput now. So, now I have tested with the lot of them and the fix is up now to download: version 1.8.1.
Please update and have fun!
CD-RUN has been updated: The Color Blind Mode Update (v1.8.0) is now live for Windows and Linux. Grab it or wish list it now!
Update notes:
- new Color Blind Mode
Color Blind Mode
I've added in a Color Blind Mode on the Options screen to help out. A friend suggested it to me a few months ago and was finally able to add it to the game. I had him test it out and he said it was super helpful. Which was great to hear after his initial comments: "Wow! You made a game! This plays great....I can't tell who I am! Ahhhh!!! Dammit. I think I died." Here's some images of it enabled. Your player number is on the back side of your Bit so you can glance at that while the chaos is at hand.
CD-RUN has been updated: The Laser Update (v1.7.0) is now live for Windows and Linux. Grab it or wish list it now to have at your next get together. It's a great party game!
Update notes:
- new Laser in the level
- bug fixes
New Laser
I've wanted to do this for a while, but it's been pushed down the priority list again and again. But now that things are so far along, it beamed its way back up! Every CD player has a laser right? Sure! That's how it reads the data from the disc, basically. It doesn't hurt you or anything, but it flies by in the background and has a cool "hummmm" sound. The laser changes color depending on which difficulty setting you have it on. Easy = White, Normal = Red, Hard = Blue. Why those colors? Well, typically a laser on a CD player is white, a DVD player laser is red, and a Bluray laser is blue. Thought I'd match the better technology with the difficulty level for some fun Here it is in action:
Bug fixes
- "The Level Stays Flat" bug: Turns out this would occur in the case when the Repeat behavior was active and a match ends. In the Repeat class it tells the Pattern Manager to keep making the same thing for X amount of seconds. If the match ends, the behavior never gets to reach X seconds and the Pattern Manager would keep making the same pattern. When a new match starts, its default pattern to make is the flat one, so it just kept doing that forever. Or at least until the Repeat function gets called in the match (which might not happen at all).
- Also, the Achievements in Steam were a little messed up there for a bit. Turns out the SteamWorks library I was using didn't cooperate with IL2CPP that well. Someone had forked it for a fix that patched it up, so that was great to be able to pop in the code and have it magically start working again. Let me know if you have any troubles with Achievements!
Better shows off the game play, player customizing, and the level messing with players. And more action. And platforming. And more fun! [previewyoutube=MgXMFx-b99o;full][/previewyoutube]

Looks like he took his existing set up and added a PC in there to run Steam. Only had to map a few buttons via Steam to get it to work! Though he wasn't able to get a Start button to work, so he had to periodically go back to the compy and hit a key.
Otherwise, he and his son had a good time playing it! After his boy figured out that ANY part of the screen is bad, they were off and running! Yay father and son time!

Minor update for CD-RUN. Now updated to v1.6.1!
Audio Bug
The main reason for the update was to fix up an audio bug where if you changed the volume of the music in the Options screen, it wouldn't respect the setting on all the different UI and Game screens. Turns out I forgot to update a Introloop prefab in Unity after updating it. Oops! So that was easy enough and now the music will be as quiet or loud as you like it! But the volume up because it's really good stuff!
Bonus feature: SCRATCHED DISC!
During the development cycle of CD-RUN, there was a bug when in the middle of a match, no level would build. The camera would scroll, the level would move behind the players, but nothing would be there for them to run on. Well, it took me a long time to eventually find the problem, but by the time I had, players and play testers all loved it and wanted it to stay in...now it's a FEATURE! So, after I eventually found out the cause and fixed the bug, I had to add it back in because folks liked it. It's been there for a bit, but I've never called it out to the player that something was about to happen...it kinda just did. While that was fun, I felt it nice to at least inform the group. I finally got to check off a box on my Polish List to add a label to the occurrence pointing out it was a SCRATCHED DISC. That also gives more weight to the whole "running inside a CD player" concept! Here's some footage of it in motion: [previewyoutube=GPlMPXHsDZY;full][/previewyoutube] Update your version to 1.6.1!

CD-RUN has been updated: The Bit Update (v1.6.0) is now live for Windows and Linux. Grab it or wish list it now. You'll be happy you have it at your next gaming party :)
Update notes:
- new and updated faces
- new pattern
- bug fixes
- achievement update
- level fine tuning
New Faces
I've added two new faces (well, two eyes and two mouths) to the game. The first one we'll call Steve:
Big cartoony eyes and a total in-your-face-to-the-competition-not-to-mention-wreckless-tongue-sticking-out-during-a-race boss! Speaking of boss, I've wanted to put in a cyclops for a while, so here he is:
A Cyclops can only see one thing: the defeat of his opponents! ...And winning. Okay, two things. Last up, I finally fixed the lady face up and she now has open eyes. They were filled in black before when I accidentally shipped it w/o filling them out properly:
New level pattern
The new pattern is called: a bluff! These staircases appear after a match gets "really long"...about 35 seconds. Sure, they're cute at the end of a level for a plumber to trod up, but here they're killer when the levels are going really fast. Keep on your toes or be dragged off the screen!
Bug fixes
Cleaned up some code and removed some cruft that was hanging around. Saved a few cycles of things doing nothing. Fixed up some random little bugs like not having the AI players give away the direction of the level and reweighed the behavior weights for when the level messes with the players.
Achievement updates
I fixed up a bug on the Gauntlet achievement where you needed to trigger two behaviors that potentially might not come up. I felt it was kind of crafty at first, but after being out for a bit I rethought it and shaped it up so it's more correct to achieve. Another bug fix was in the Free Ride achievement. Before, you need to ride a player for 8 seconds minimum and then (you as the player) jump off the other player to trigger the code. That felt unfair after playing it for a bit longer, so I changed it now to where you can: jump off, fall off, bounce off, or reverse gravity off another player after 8 seconds to get the achievement. Feels better now during game play.
Level fine tuning
Fixed up some pattern order allowances that occur. No Posts after a Bluff, and Pilings can't be called after a Piling (too hard jumping!), and no Bridges after a Pit.
