Barbarian Guide & Walkthrough

What's new?
Hey there! I check the Legends of Pixelia top 100 from time to time. The cool thing is that there are always players finishing dungeons every months for the last 2 years or so. The sad thing: Nearly no player made it through the Game+ Mode. That's why I decided to write a Barbarian guide & walkthrough to help you finish this monster by providing leveling info, farming strategies and Legends of Pixelia insider info (e.g. on the epic item drop chance system).

Check it out here:

Have fun playing!

Pixelia 2 Announced

What's new?
Hey there! The successor of LoP is approaching release and needs your help on Greenlight.
It is Pixelia 2: Legend of the Phoenix Tower.

Please vote for Pixelia 2 on Greenlight:
Click!

Plot
A deranged troll mage subdued the small island of Mastico and planned to create a massive monument to prove his power. "I will build a cursed tower. An THEY will pay for it!" The legends about this tragedy spread around the world and many adventurers set out to help this small overseas island. Are you able to defeat Trollad Dump?

Fearures
• Choose one of the unique hero classes to start your adventure
• Explore the island of Mastico and discover the disturbing secrets behind the Phoenix Tower
• Select stat point bonuses on every level up
• Find powerful items to strengthen your hero
• Use one of multiple precise control schemes that fits your playing style (keyboard, keyboard & mouse, gamepad)
• Plug in some gamepads to enjoy local multiplayer (up to 4 players)
• Challenge an absolutely insane villain...

Key Changes from Legends of Pixelia
• Legends of Pixelia's focus was to create a challenging game. Pixelia 2 is designed to be a funny and enjoyable game in the first place.
• No more air combos in Pixelia 2. They added a nice "hard to master" gap to LoP but the mechanic was an obstacle when playing in a 4 player game.
• Pixelia 2 contains a plot.
• Well... Pixelia 2 is a new game with a new art style, new dungeon generation, new hero classes, new enemies, new items, etc.

Thanks for voting!

Version 1.02

What's new?
Hey there, long time no see! I received some pretty good player feedback and prepared something. Version 1.02 contains some smaller fixes only, but it's definitely worth playing. ;-)

Version 1.02 Changes
*** Appearance ***
- Added an option to get to the main menu from pvp mode
- Reduced the menu text overhead
*** Balance ***
- Slightly decreased Orbit Shield damage
- Reduced the respec drink costs by about 20% for higher hero levels
- Reduced the respec drink costs a lot for heroes with level 17 or lower
*** System Changes ***
- Enemies' damage now gradually decreases when they combo you
*** Engine ***
- Game engine update: Unity 5.2.4

Gradual damage reduction
RNG can be evil sometimes. A bad combination of room layout and picked enemy types can lead to situations where enemies keep comboing you to death. In order to lessen the pain of long enemy combos, version 1.02 features gradual damage reduction.

Whenever enemies hit you in quick succession for a high amount of hits, the damage received per hit decreases. You take full damage for the first 4 hits and then the received damage is gradually reduced by 15% steps (100%, 100%, 100%, 100%, 85%, 70%, 55%, 40%, 25%, 10%). So, after being hit 10 times in a short amount of time, you only receive 10% of the damage for every upcoming attack.

This system only affects enemies. Don't worry, your combos will continue to do full damage, both in PvE and PvP.

Combat info page
I added an info page for the combat system, check it out:

That's it
I hope you enjoy the new version as much as I do. :-)

Version 1.01

What's new?
Hello. I really enjoyed playing Legends of Pixelia v1.00 during the last weeks, but I noticed some things that still needed a change. As of today, version 1.01 is here to fix this! More epic items, more balance, more fun in Game+.

Version 1.01 changes
1.01 changes:
*** New ***
- Added 18 new epic items to the drop pool
*** System Changes ***
- The EXP cap is a lot softer now
- Buying the scoundrel's dice now gives a small epic find chance bonus
- Vamp Hunter's orbit shield is no longer breakable
*** Appearance ***
- Epic effects added to off/def rating: Ace, Bee, Ex, Why, Storm's Punch, Vampire's Spell
- The guard chance calculation for defense rating is correct now
- Melee/ Ranged/ Special 40 bonuses are now added to the offensive rating calculation
- Renamed the "Evade" passive to "Avoid"
*** Balance ***
- Increased the Angel Blessing (not Demon Blessing) stat bonus by 50%
- Increased the blessing cap for all game+ dungeons
- Increased the EXP gained in game+ dungeons
- Offensive 40 bonus is now +15% crit. chance & +40% crit. damage
- Defensive 40 bonus is now +25% chance to evade (any incoming damage)
- Slightly buffed the passive Vampire's Teeth
- Epic item buffs: Storm's Guard, Ninja's Hood, Ninja's Ambush, Dreifarb
- Slightly reduced evil plant enemies' skill damage
- Slightly reduced boss 1-1 damage
- Slightly reduced boss 9-1 damage
- Slightly buffed boss 6-3 and its game+ version
- Increased all guard chance values by about 30%
- All damage, defense, HP and heal per room on items increased by about 5%
*** Quality of Life ***
- Pressing and holding "A" now chains the base combo
- Pressing and holding "RB" now executes a block whenever possible
*** Bugfixes ***
- Game engine update: Unity 5.2.2
- Reduced the pool size of the pooling system

More epic items
I really like finding epic items, but once you reach Game+ mode, you tend to find the same items. That's why I added 18 new epic items to the drop pool, increasing it to a total of 43 different epic items. There are some really cool epic effects like perma endurance (your skills can no longer be interrupted by enemies) or increasing your critical chance based on your guard chance. :-)

To be able to find these new epics, the scoundrel's dice now also increase the chance to find epic items. Hurray!

Slash, slash, slash, ...
One of my favorite changes in the new version: Pressing and holding the attack button now chains the base combo. This change really helps when playing high attack speed builds. Also, sometimes it was hard to correctly time your block when trapped in a hostile Holy Cross spell. Pressing and holding the block button now blocks whenever possible. This might sound like a small change, but it really changed the way to play the game for me (in a positive way).

More balance
Whenever I started a new hero, I felt forced to put my stat points in either the melee, ranged or special tree due to the 40 point bonus being so super powerful (cooldown charge). That's why the 40 point bonuses of the defensive and the offensive skill trees got buffed.

Also, I talked with a friend about softcore and hardore heroes and he had the opinion, that hardcore is easier in the long run, because you only find demon blessings which offer way higher stat bonuses. After playing a hardcore Vamp Hunter to level 99, I totally got his point. That's why I increased the bonus for angel blessings by 50%. The demon blessing bonus used to be 5 times higher than angel bonuses, now they are about 3 times as high.

I miscalculated guard chance... in two ways. The displayed def rating used to overestimate guard chance where the actual values were way too low compared to critical chance. I fixed the def rating calculation and increased all guard chance values by 30% (this change is retroactive).

More fun in Game+
Starting at level 50, the EXP curve in version 1.00 was way too high. To fix this, I increased the experience gained in Game+ dungeons all over the place. You can (more or less) easily get your hero to level 95 in version 1.01. Also, the EXP cap sometimes felt a little too harsh. It is a lot softer now, allowing you to over-level if you want to. After some minor fixes to some bosses and enemies, Game+ is really well balanced now. I enjoyed my test runs with a softcore Paladin and a hardcore Vamp Hunter in version 1.01.

That's it
Still reading this? Go on and play the new version! ;-)
Oh, by the way: Happy Halloween.

Version 1.00!

What's new?
Hey there. After 18 months of work, I proudly present... Legends of Pixelia version 1.00! I already told you about the two new hero classes (Vamp Hunter and Mage) in the last post. This time I'll show you the new gameplay trailer, the changelog and some info about a new kind of items.

A new gameplay trailer

Legends of Pixelia - Gameplay Trailer (v 1.00)

Epic items
Do you know the moment just before you open up a giant treasure chest? I'm always a little bit excited, waiting for the next big upgrade for my hero.

Although I liked the old item system, one thing has been missing: Items that really change the way you play your hero. That's why I decided to add a new kind of items, epic items. Any giant treasure chest has a low chance to be an epic one, giving you the choice between one of 2 epic items or a ton of gold. The main idea behind epic items is "super rare, but super powerful". Here's an example:

Every epic item will have 3 high rolled stats + 1 epic power. The power of the item shown above reduces your Y-skill cooldown by 30%! That's an effect noticeable when playing. :-)

Version 1.00 changes
*** New ***
- Added two new hero classes: Vamp Hunter & Mage
- You can now find epic items in big treasure chests (low chance, but powerful!)
*** System Changes ***
- You now get bonus base attack ("A") damage from level ups
- You can now delete heroes ingame
- Potions now heal all players in multiplayer
- Bots in PvP now only choose unlocked champions
*** Balance ***
- Nerfed boss 1-1 and boss 1-2
- Slightly slowed down cast speeds of: comet rain, fire ball
- Decreased comet rain damage
- Increased flamestrike damage
- Combo-3 shot from Paladins and Archers now pierce
- The center arrow from multishot now has increased damage and pierces
- Gaze learned a new trick...
- Rebalanced scoundrel gold cost
*** Bugfixes ***
- Performance boost!
- Fixed a display bug for items showing slightly too high values for XBY damage
- Fixed a bug that lead to wrong gravity settings in air combos
- Bugfix: Main menu go back display error fixed

So many champions!
There is a total of 14 different champions waiting for some PvP acion in the Versus mode. Happy brawling!

That's it
I'm happy that I managed to develop a game, that I really love to play. Hope you folks out there like it, too. :-)

1.0 Release soon

What's new?
Hello! I've worked a lot and prepared a 1.0 release version that's close to being finished. The new version will feature some cool stuff like the Vamp Hunter and the Mage hero classes.

Steam Review
Your help is needed! If you own a Steam copy of Legends of Pixelia, please consider writing a review. Take your 10 minutes and support the growth of the community. :-)
Here's a screenshot showing how to get to the review screen:

Thanks in advance!

Version 1.0? When? What?
Version 1.0 will be ready sometime between early and mid September. In this post I'll tell you more about the upcoming new hero classes.

Vamp Hunter
The Vamp Hunter will join the team as a medium ranged fighter. Clear dungeon 5 to unlock this hero class. His skills are inspired by a great vampire hunter video game series.

Napalm, slow moving flames with a medium range and pushback:

Orbit Shield, 3 holy crosses orbit the player and deal damage:

Boomerang, changes the direction and flies backwards:

Mage
It's a kind of magic, magic. ... MAAGIIIC! The Mage unlocks after beating dungeon 6. Mages are specialized on chaotic area damage spells.

Snake Bolt, medium ranged piercing shot that splits:

Fire Ball, explodes on hit, (BOOM!):

Comet Rain, calls lots of small meteors:

That's it
I'm super excited about the release. I did some tests and I really like the upcoming version. Two new hero classes and more coming in version 1.0. For more info, stay tuned!

Version 0.93

What's new?
Hey there, version 0.93 is live! We now have a new NPC (shop), an option to config your gamepad and lots of balance changes. The Vamp Hunter won the second hero vote and is now waiting to join the team soon.

The Scoundrel
No idea how to waste your hard earned gold? The scoundrel offers some special goodies that might be worth a look. Every hero has to clear dungeon 3 in order to unlock the scoundrel, he can be found on the preparations screen. Here's some info about the current stock:

Rings: Permanently increase your EXP gained.
Skull Compass: Always shows the boss room on the minimap.
Canting Halo: One bonus statue
in every stage.
Dice: There are 3 different dice, that offer a set of item stats. Choose one stat (per dice) that will have a 15% chance to appear on all future items, even if the stat normally doesn't show up on that item type.
Sin Potions/ Demon Ex: Remove a chosen blessing stat, one time use.
Respec Drink: Respec your stat points, one time use.

Version 0.93 Changes
*** New ***
- Added the scoundrel NPC that offers expensive artifacts (available after clearing dungeon 3)
*** System Changes ***
- Removed minimum damage taken, go full def if you want to :-)
- Reduced variation of the number of rooms per stage
- Every boss now has a fix boss room layout
*** Balance ***
- Increased Multishot damage
- Reduced enemy archers' basic attack speed
- Decreased sky slash damage of avatars
- Slightly increased boss room exp, increased cap
- Slightly nerfed Boss 7-3
- Slight rebalance for game+ dungeons
- Reduced inventory upgrade costs
- Increased movement speed factor on items
*** Bugfixes ***
- OpenGL2 systems now default to "Ingame Look" 1 to prevent invisible characters
- Increased some scripts' performance to reduce lag when lots of shots are on the screen
- Fixed a bug that decreased the number of statues in small stages
- Fixed a bug displaying too high def rating with high heal per room
- Minor bugfixes

And the winner is...

The Vamp Hunter won the second hero vote with 64% and will be implemented soon.

Gamepad Config
Since every company has their own button mapping "standard" for gamepads, you can now map your gamepad buttons yourself:

Coverage
Legends of Pixelia was featured in the Australia Times Games July 2015 issue (Vol. 3, No. 13, pages 23-25).

"If you've got some friends to get around, and a healthy love of dungeon crawlers and RPG's, then this might be right up your alley." Read more (click!)

Also, WeiseGamer did a pretty detailed (p)review video for Legends of Pixelia, check it out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4RJhA2ZAlY

That's it
Although they are expensive, the scoundrel's artifacts really improve the late game experience. So, we got a new NPC but no new hero class this time.
Don't worry, I'm working on them. "Them?" Yep... :-)

Hero Vote #2, Archer Class Version 0.92

What's new?
Greetings! The Archer won the first hero vote and is now available in Legends of Pixelia as of version 0.92. Also, you can vote again for the next hero class. This time it's Vamp Hunter vs Priest.

Archer
You voted and the Archer won with 62%. Poor Ninja lost and has been banshied to the void...

Get your quivers ready, the Archer is here. First of all, you need to clear dungeon 4 to unlock the Archer. No problem for you right? Let's have a look at the ranged-only skillset:

Piercing Blow, a medium ranged piercing shot that throws enemies into the air:

Mighty Arrow, a powerfull single hit shot with a high pushback:

Multishot, shoot 5 arrows in a cone shape (hits 5 times at point blank, high damage):

This class really adds some variation to the gameplay, both in PvE and in PvP. I'd suggest to choose movement speed on items over HP or defense to survive in PvE. It's super hard to do decent combos with the Archer unless you heavily invest in attack speed, but if you prefer hit and run over combos, this is your hero class. :-)

Version 0.92 Changes
*** New ***
– New hero class: Archer (beat dungeon 4 to unlock)
- New enemy types: archer types for skeletons and demons
*** Appearance ***
- Increased the brightness of some dungeons
- Items now display their quality and maximum durability
- Added Kickstarter 'Bronze Edition' backer names to the credits
*** Balance ***
- Slightly increased the Barbarian's base attack speed
- Slightly rebalanced ostriches to reduce lag
- Added the new archer enemies to dungeon 1, 3 and 6
- AI: Better estimate skills with multiple shots
- AI: Better estimate skills with offset shots
*** Bugfixes ***
- Fixed an upgrade bug on items with more than 3 stats

Vote #2: Vamp Hunter vs Priest

The Vamp Hunter and the Priest are waiting to be unlocked by finishing dungeon 5. But which will be the sixth hero class in Legends of Pixelia?
You decide!

Vamp Hunter

Multiple titles of a very great video game series proved that a whip is the best weapon to kill undeads of all sorts. The Vamp Hunter uses a whip in combination with his skills to be a powerful and tricky medium ranged fighter.

Priest

Driven by fanaticism, the Priest tries to eliminate everything that doesn't fit his idea of being "good". Priests use supportive magic that helps in surviving as well as sacrificial magic that uses their own blood to deal high amounts of damage.

That's it
I really enjoyed my testing sessions with the Archer and can't wait to get your feedback on it. Also, the newly added skeleton archers really helped in making dungeon 1 more interesting.
Regarding the next hero class: Vamp Hunter or Priest? Whip or Scepter? Your choice! :-)

Hero Vote #1: Archer vs Ninja

It's time to vote!
Hello. Knight, Barbarian, Paladin and Sentinel are ready to welcome a new hero to their lineup. But which hero class should join the game and which one should be banished to the void?
You decide!

Archer vs Ninja

The first hero vote will be Archer vs Ninja. The class that gets more community votes will be implemented in the game and will be unlockable ingame by beating dungeon 4 for the first time. Lets have a look at the concept behind each hero class.

Archer

In contrast to the existing hero classes, the Archer will offer a set of mostly high ranged and big aoe skills. Do you prefer shoot and run techniques over melee combat? Go and vote for the Archer.

Ninja

Ninjas specialize on super fast melee combat combined with sneaky skills to trap and confuse their enemies. If you like fast heroes with high single target damage, vote for the Ninja.

A new Hero

What's new?
Greetings! Some exciting news: Legends of Pixelia will be available on Steam in June and a new hero class is on its way to support the others... Or fight them in PvP.

June Version
To celebrate the release on Steam, there will be a new version of Legends of Pixelia planned for June. This version will feature...

Character outlines to better distinguish characters from the background (a fine black line around all characters):

Selectable hero colors:

The Sentinel hero class:

Sentinel
The Sentinel is a hard to learn character class, but once you master using his abilities, he will be able to control the battlefield and support his allies. He can throw spears, break enemy shots and he has the ability to jump into the skies and bring death from above.

Dragon Jump:

Breaker, summon a crystal that devours enemy shots:

Spear combo vs. boss:

That's it
I'm planning on releasing more hero classes during the Early Access period, based on the community's needs and feedback. :-)
