Dr. Spacezoo v0.8.6 was released on 2016/10/14 and brings additional ultra weapon upgrades for the laser and bullet weapons, and many new bullet types and firing sounds were added. Read on for some of the more significant changes since the v0.8.4 update announcement.
I love how the Trash Monster's debris trail whips the Feedbot Mk.4 out of the way!
Bullets:
Many new bullet types and firing sounds were added. The bullet used is based on the highest stat property from the selected weapon upgrades. Here's a cycling of all the new and different bullets:
Damage Bullets vs Feedbot Mk.4:
Duration Bullets:
Drunken Bullets' behavior was also improved to be a bit more Itano Circus during flight
New Ultra Weapon Upgrades:
Many new Ultra Weapon Upgrades were added in the last two updates. Melee Deflector (Ultra) is back! The Melee Deflector is a rotating shield that increases in speed each rank and gently bumps away anything it touches. It stops a lot of bullets.
Melee Damager (Ultra) is a rotating weapon that increases in speed each rank and does damage to anything it touches. It does NOT stop any bullets. Vortex (Ultra) is a proc effect that harmlessly pulls in enemies, animals, power-ups and bullets. Get over here!
The Force Vortex (Ultra) is a proc effect that forcefully pulls in and damages enemies, animals, power-ups, bullets, and destructibles. Health Booster (Ultra) is a passive effect that boosts base health per rank. Health Regeneration (Ultra) is a proc effect that restores a small amount of health per rank.
Co-op Animations:
Co-op player ships are now animated to match the single player ship and the co-op bullets and ultras are color matched too. Blue's Drunken Bullets are mostly going in the correct direction here!
Weapon Upgrade Help:
Added Weapon Upgrade Help to describe each of the different weapon upgrade properties:
Screen Transitions:
New screen transitions are now used when changing between pages:
Reminder: Price is going to increase as the game becomes more complete!
The price is currently $8.99 USD and will likely raise to $9.99 within the next few updates. If you were waiting for a discount to get Dr. Spacezoo, note that it is already discounted from its final v1.0 target price.

Dr. Spacezoo v0.8.4 was released on 2016/09/30 and brings the first set of unique ultra weapon upgrades for the laser and bullet weapons. Also, new enemy art animations were added, as well as new screen transition effects. Read on for some of the more significant changes since the v0.8.1 update announcement.
Unique Ultra Weapon Upgrades:
The unique ultra weapon upgrades are super rare weapon upgrades that a add additional defensive or offensive effect to your laser and bullet weapons. Currently, there are four unique ultra weapon upgrades which include: Push, Force Deflector, Reflections, and Bounces. Each unique upgrade will increase in potency with each of their 4 ranks. The later missions will allow for higher rank uniques than the earlier missions.
Bounces Ultra
Here's an image of the weapon upgrade UI with the Bounces Ultra weapon upgrade selected. The +1 Bounces Ultra allows for each bullet to bounce off a wall once:
Here's an example of Bounces Rank 2 on a Bullet Weapon with a lot of +Bullets and some +Homing:
Reflections Ultra
When selecting upgrades for the Laser, the Bounces Ultra will be known as Reflections Ultra, and will add an additional laser reflection for each rank. Here's an example of Reflections Ultra Rank 4:
Both the Bounces Ultra and Reflection Ultra are super handy for boss fights:
Force Deflector Ultra
The Force Deflector is back and may be added to either the Laser or the Bullets. The Force Deflector is a periodic proc that will trigger more often as you stack on +Haste. It does a ton of damage to anything caught in its explosion radius:
Fountain Weapon Upgrades:
Fountains aren't just for cover anymore. The sprayers now have a small chance to drop a Weapon Upgrade when destroyed. It's good luck to take coins and upgrades from fountains, right?
Updated Enemy Art:
The sentry, rammer, ranger, and swarmer got new art and animations. Here's a gif of a rammer, ranger, and two swarmers sitting mostly idle waiting on the player to break in and save some space animals:
Chaotic action shot of a few sentries, rammers, and swarmers doing their thing, with a bonus appearance by the Force Deflector Ultra:
Screen Transitions:
Added new dynamic screen transitions to make the UI a bit more dynamic:
Screen Resolutions and Aspect Ratios:
Added a new in-game resolution selector to Settings which supports resolutions greater than 1280x720 and non-16:9 aspect ratios (the minimum resolution is 1280x720). Dr. Spacezoo's menus and game are now resolution/aspect ratio independent in both full screen and windowed mode. Also, a new Screen Resolution Based Zoom option was added to Settings, which will show more of the game levels at higher resolutions (uses more CPU/GPU). Here's a wide aspect ratio shot of the Feebot Mk.4 boss fight with the Screen Resolution Based Zoom option enabled:
And here's a super tall aspect ratio shot of the title screen:
Dr. Spacezoo should work with whatever weird resolution and aspect ratio that you throw at it. Please leave a comment and let me know if it doesn't!
Reminder: Price is going to increase as the game becomes more complete!
The price went up to $8.99 USD with the v0.8.3 update, and will likely raise to $9.99 within the next few updates. If you were waiting for a discount to get Dr. Spacezoo, note that it is already discounted from its final v1.0 target price.

Dr. Spacezoo v0.8.1 was released on 2016/08/23 and brings a huge overhaul to the weapon system. The old weapon system was one of the first systems added back in 2014 and I'm excited to finally replace it. Read on for some of the more significant changes since the v0.7.4 update announcement.
Weapon Upgrades:
The new weapon upgrade system reduces the available weapons to a laser and bullets, each of which now have 3 slots for upgrades. The weapon upgrades drop from enemies and bosses, and each upgrade includes a few properties that improve how the base weapon works. Combining multiple weapon upgrades into a single weapon may create a very powerful and unique weapon. Currently, the following properties are available for inclusion on a weapon upgrade: Bullets/Photons, Damage, Haste, Homing, Spread, Drunken, Duration, and Velocity. Bullets/Photons offer the biggest increase to raw damage output, followed next by Damage. The weapon upgrade properties from the earlier missions will be weaker than those from the later missions, and weapon upgrades from a boss will include an additional bonus to each property's roll. The rarity of the weapon upgrade determines the number of properties and the rolling range. Here's a homing shotgun style bullet weapon created using weapon upgrades:
The weapons created using the weapon upgrades are currently super overpowered and will be tuned over the next several updates. Here's an example of slotting new upgrades into the bullet weapon:
Daily:
The Daily Challenge is now its own game mode and everyone now starts the daily with the same random selection of core power-ups and weapon upgrades. Be sure to compete each day for the top spot on the Daily leaderboard!
Hit Sparks:
Added hit sparks to the bullet impacts and when ramming an enemy:
Boss fight meters:
Added HP meters for the boss fights, which are very helpful during Boss Rush mode's tag team fights:
Offscreen enemy indicators:
Added offscreen enemy indicators to show where the active enemies are outside the screen, which are very useful for aiming.
Settings:
Added more granular options for Screenshake / Optical Boom Blaster, which were previously a single on/off option.
In Game Steam Leaderboards:
Each mode has its own leaderboard. Select the mode name/mission/level to cycle through the leaderboards: Story, Action, Boss Rush, Permadeath, and Daily
Reminder: Price is going to increase as the game becomes more complete!
The price is going to go up from $7.99 USD to $8.99 USD really soon (next update). If you were waiting for a discount to get Dr. Spacezoo, note that it is already very discounted from its final target price.

Dr. Spacezoo v0.7.4 update brings a new Permadeath mode to the game. Fight your way through 20 levels across 5 missions with one life and only the primary laser and whatever secondary weapon you manage to collect along the way.
This boss is a total nightmare in Permadeath Mode:
Weapons:
Secondary weapons are acquired in Permadeath Mode via weapon drops, and they replace your current secondary weapon so choose wisely. Also, the defensive Melee Deflector and Force Deflector weapons were made to be much more viable in an offensive capacity. Here's the Force Deflector reducing a fountain, a few enemies, and some jerk faced bees to grease and gibs:
Maybe that Force Deflector is a little too viable now..
Reminder: Price is going to increase as the game becomes more complete!
The price is going to go up from $6.99 USD to $7.99 USD really soon. If you were waiting for a discount to get Dr. Spacezoo, note that it is already very discounted from its final target price.
