As mentioned in a previous post, I am working on updating INNER to an anthology. I am still working on he second case file (mini-game) to be added but I have updated the game itself to support multiple mini-games! I've also done some minor bug fixing for the original mini-game (now known as case file: Michael) as well as updated the entire rendering system to improve graphical quality and allow me to build what every I think up for new mini-games! I have also put in the request with Steam to make INNER free now that my original announcement for it has been around for a bit. Keep an eye out for going free and the new mini-game in the coming weeks! NOTE TO LINUX USERS: Unfortunately, my Linux machine is down so I wont be able to test and provide stable builds of the new direction for a bit. Though I will release alpha builds on a test branch that you can reach out to me and apply for. Thank you!
- Updated all UI and various systems to support multiple mini-games
- Improved graphics for current and all future mini-games
- Minor bug fixes on original Michael mini-game
Anyone following my work may be aware by now that I have long intended for INNER to be converted to an anthology. After the first little game jam game, I really liked the concept of many little games related to the same theme in one package. I feel INNER's area of subconscious and psychological experiences is a fun one for many mini-game projects and a great way to introduce people to my work. That's why, in the not too distant future, INNER will be 100% free and I mean actually free. Here's what the future of INNER looks like:
Future of INNER
INNER will become an anthology that I update with mini-games periodically for free. No DLC, just free content. Every game will be of similar quality, length, and cover the same theme of the psychological and subconscious. I have many other projects such as Mortuary Assistant and my various Patreon games being worked on but around those, I will create more content for INNER. When I do, I will upload a new build, post the update, and you will have a new mini-game to play!
The Current Update
The update hitting Steam soon is still just the base mini-game (Now known as Michael) but the game's rendering has been given a large upgrade to support any new project, UI systems, and some other work necessary to support multiple games have been completed. I have also fixed a number of bugs in the Michael mini-game. This update is basically the conversion to support new content in this format. Please note that Linux is not included currently in this change as my equipment to test Linux builds has broken and I am not certain when I can get it operational again. I am actively working on a new mini-game that I hope to add to the game in the next few weeks. So keep an eye out for updates! INNER should be completely free in about a week. -Brian
After I launched Our Secret Below in July, I looked at the calendar and thought it might be cool to try and get a short game in out in time for Halloween. I wanted to jump right into The Mortuary Assistant but figured a few months on MA would not be as impactful as a full new title!
So I started on Kohate. A spin-off of my first project The Subject, Kohate focuses much more on the survival aspect as apposed to the puzzle-heavy aspect of The Subject. It's short, fun, and filled with secrets, lore, and multiple endings.
I also have an updated planned with a fourth ending for October 22. Kohate launches today for $4.99! I hope you can go pick it up and be sure to leave a review!

The Mortuary Assistant
Now that Kohate is finished, I have started on full development of The Mortuary assistant! The environment is larger, there will be more dead bodies, and you will actually embalm them! I'm very excited to start on this project as it is very special to me. There is currently now launch date set other than an aim for spring-summer next year. So be sure to follow my Twitter and keep an eye on development!
INNER on Linux
It has been a little bit now since the launch of INNER and I originally stated that I planed to release on Linux as well. That time has finally come! I'm very happy to say that I am a man of my word and have completed the port. Along with the new release, I have put a bit of work into bug fixes. Some minor and one major issue where mouse control could potentially stop working correctly and cause the player to not turn properly.
Hey! I'm glad this game finally made it to steam. It was a fun and chaotic 3 days to develop and I figured it might be nice to re-visit it for a little bit before working on Outstation. Come by if you'd like to watch! https://www.twitch.tv/darkstonedigital

About The Game
INNER is the result of a 3 day game jam live on Twitch.
The game jam and project itself were created to try and capture the feeling of a horror game without using first person perspective as a tool for immersion and, instead, focusing on atmosphere and tone to deliver a darker feeling.
This also gave birth to the concept of DarkStone Digital LABS projects. Smaller titles meant to explore new mechanics, concepts, and styles.
