Guardian Of Lore and the Steam Game Festival Experience
Wed shared in our previous devlog post that wed been selected to participate in the Summer Edition of the Steam Game Festival. You can think about it, dream about it, obsess about it, but actually living it woah, its something else entirely. We spent the better part of June tweaking the demo so it would be perfect for the Festival, and we must say it was not as grueling as we thought it would be. Weve become accustomed to working longer and longer hours to make up for the inevitable delays working from home has presented us with. So, by the time the Festival was upon us, the demo and the gorgeous art we created to accompany it were beyond ready to see the light of day. We had 1,200 downloads and over 500 wishlists during the Steam Game Festival, which we feel are great numbers. Most of those who downloaded the Guardian of Lore demo played for a solid half hour! All in all, the stats are encouraging. We still have a ways to go, but were on the right track!
As far as the live streamings, the Q and As (Questions and Answers), and the Dev Walkthroughs, we didnt exactly know what to expect, so we were a bit nervous. What if no one showed up? What if we ended up with our neighbors and cousins asking us the same old questions weve been answering for years at barbecues? (We love you, friends, and family! Dont take this the wrong way!). Amazingly, new people showed up! Actual fans! And they asked insightful questions. We had fun! We werent exactly expecting to actually enjoy being in the spotlight so much, we might get used to this. All in all, it was a very enriching experience. One we hope to repeat many, many more times.
Guardian of Lore has two new levels full of bad dudes ready to steal Sayris thunder! Or, rather, destroy the Lore but you get the drift. The first one is another tutorial! Its aim is to give players some more combat training so theyll be ready to face the music in the real game, especially the eyes on the walls, those bad guys have proven to be pretty hard to kill. And the second one is a scene in the Yerba Mate folktale. An enemy army tries one last time to murder the hunter while he is fast asleep, just like in the legend. And theres more! Tons of cool changes up ahead, keep your eyes peeled!
Weve revamped the animation of Sayri killing the Yaguarete Boss to give the sense of true achievement. Apart from giving you the spell, it also drops an object now. Catch it, Sayri! We held a contest in the (virtual) office - the loser would get to design our new website! Daniel may need therapy after this, but the website sure looks awesome! We fixed a gazillion bugs, as usual. [We may or may not be exaggerating here.] We replaced our previous spikes. They were hard to see and testers often had a hard time spotting them. Now, they are 3D and when you get close enough, pointy spikes come out! Ouch!
Weve added life bars to the eyes on the wall now. These guys are round (you know, like eyes XD) and a bit ornamented, so it was hard to figure out exactly where to hit them to cause damage. Now its more clear! The whole library has been polished [Wow, we do sound like Cinderella, do we not?]. It looks even more amazing now! Now, when you kill a spider, the patch it left on the wall goes away. We've completely revamped the Knowledge Extractor. Now it's quite different from the Inventory. It's also more functional now - it allows you to create items in groups instead of one by one.
So, weve closed our Pre-Beta registration forms for good. Aaaand, weve set a release date for the demo! Yup, it will be released on July 22nd! Woot woot! Add this on your calendars, folks, you wont want to miss it! Truth be told, we were expecting to release the demo in March, but life happened! It took us a while longer, but here we are! A mere weeks before the big day!
Design on the folktale La Flor del Lirolay (Lirolay Flower) has begun! Were hoping well be able to design it while also designing the Merida folktale. Our aim is to catch up on the time we lost working from home these past three months. Its hard, guys, every time we have to consult with each other, we have to set up conferences and share screens instead of simply turning our chairs and speaking face to face. But, you know, this will pass, and something amazing will come out of it, were sure. Times up! Its been great, thank you for making it this far. We look forward to interacting with you all on our Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter pages. Also, make sure you join our Discord community, its super active and we share many sneak peeks and bits of news we dont share anywhere else. See ya next month!
