DIFFICULTY SETTINGS ARE A THING NOW!!!!

Greetings everyone!!

It's been a while since we uploaded the last patch. Thing's been crazy around here, with us working on the upcoming DLC and fixing as many bugs as people has reported and we've found ourselves.

Nonetheless, there's been a request going around from many people asking to lower the difficulty of certain bosses, so they could navigate the story and the Latin American Myths, without having to stress out about the bosses.

So...

Difficulty Settings are in the Pause men now

Inside the men there are two new options now. One to change the difficulty of the game, and one that enables/disables the spell cheat sheet.

The game was intended originally to challenge both your motor skills as well as your mental skills.

In our opinion the more choices we give you, the more fun you can get out of the experience.

Remember we're still running our 100 dollars give away contest. You can check the previous post to see more by cicking the image below.

Play the game, give us feedback and win. EZ

August Review Contest!

Greetings Amazing People!!!

Let me begin by thanking each and every one of you for supporting us, being that you supported us by buying the game, the soundtrack, or even just by helping us spread the word of Latin American Mythology through social media sharing... just knowing we caught your interest means the world to us.

Let's now get to where you want to be.

HOW!? I MEAN HOW!? Can I win a ticket that can purchase me virtually any game I want?

Easy peasy. Just post a review on Steam, from all the reviews that have been posted before August 31st (23:59 GMT -5) we'll pick what we think are the best, and from those 10 will pick one randomly and that's pretty much it.

FAQs

  • Q: I've already posted my review, how can I participate?
  • A: If you posted your review before August 31st, then you're already participating. You can edit your review if you think that'll help.

  • Q: What happens if I didn't buy the game on Steam? Or I got my key for free on a giveaway or something...
  • We don't care. We want to receive great feedback and every review is welcome. Although Steam does have some playtime requisite on their platform to post a review.

  • Q: I posted my review somewhere else, made a video, told a friend... what now?
  • A: You can copy/paste, post a link, send a smoke signal... it still counts as long as it's posted on Steam.

For full terms and conditions of the contest you can go here:

If you have any other questions or whatever, you can always contact us through Discord, Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook.

July Update!

Updates first
Controllers udpate
• We've made the shield block faster and more accurate between the moment the animation finishes and the shield starts blocking damage.
  • Jumping is now slightly faster as well. Hopefully, this will fix the issue some people had made them feel the game wasnt responding to some commands.
Levels updates
Some items were moved around so players will see them easier.
Some enemies were switched to provide funnier combats.

And now...

Exciting news!!
Upcoming updates
Everything is getting ready for you to change the game difficulty settings.
A system is being installed so each player can pick whether they want the spell cheat sheet to be activated with each casting or not.
DLC
Everything is being put in place!! We're extremely excited to announce an upcoming release for a one-of-a-kind DLC. A new level is being created with some new items and a lot of Lore to be saved. This is set for November... let's see if you can guess what it is?
Contest
We'll be giving away some Steam Gift cards!! The bases will be released in August, but we wanted to give a heads up so you can start working on your reviews!

That's it for now.

We've killed some small bugs.

Patch Notes Junes

Hello people!!

Once again, thanks to those who bought the game and played it. That support means the world to us!

We've heard your suggestions and requests and this is what we did about it...

These are the patch notes for June's Update.

First and foremost. Many people have said that they dislike that once you began hitting or casting, there was no way to cancel that. Although it was intended that players are forced to think before smashing buttons, this seems to be something you didnt enjoy. So starting now, jumping or dashing will cancel casting stance and break you off the attack animation

We understand some of you wanted more clues on how to save each story. So now, if you exit a story without saving it, the Amulet will give you another clue. We hope this clue, with the end screen on each legend, will help people find how to save every story.

We've increased the feeling of hitting and being hit. Hopefully, this will fill everyone's blood with rushes of excitement as we want you to enjoy the journey through the amazing Latin American Myths you'll encounter at every level.

We've added crouching attacks and upwards attacks for every type of weapon. Some people mentioned that they felt as having no control over the attacks. Hopefully, this will aid you to really have a sense of wearing our hero's boots.

We've added a new frame to the initial animation as some people felt it weird to start the second half of said animation with a black background and some dialogue displayed at the bottom.

We've reinforced some animations that will queue you on what's going on as you block with your shield and we've also twitched how the shield blocks overall.

We've also worked on some extremely small bugs we haven't noticed before. Guardian of Lore is a huge, ambitious project and there're probably some other bugs we haven't noticed... so if you happen to run across one, remember to tell us about it, either through social networks or here at Steam.

Last but certainly, not least... MAC version is a reality at last!! It wasn't easy, but we made it work. We'd committed to giving you a PC/MAC/Linux version and we'll keep that promise.

PC was an easy one... we know the game is playable on Linux via Proton hence we focus our efforts on the MAC version. Now that is done, we'll start working on the Linux version.

What's that? Do you want to know about the console version? It's in the making as well... if you want to skip the PC version and jump into your favorite console, it is a matter of time.

Patch notes May 28th 2021

Hi Everyone! This is the first patch we've created after the initial Game release.

What does it have? Well...

First of all, it was brought to our attention that the game must be windowed to be played with some controllers for people with disabilities. We made this a priority and it is now working properly.

Second important fix. There was an issue with starting the game for some people in ASIA. This was due to the alphabet difference used in the name of the month... I know... we didnt know... it should work now, without a problem.

Some minor not worth to talk about.

As usual, if you find anything you think it's out of place tell us about it. We're here for you.

As always, thanks for playing.

Releasing Guardian of Lore, getting Jolted by folks in Top Hats and much more!

This is it, folks! This highly awaited Guardian of Lore DevLog contains an explosive bit of news! If you have been paying attention to our social media outlets, please dont spoil the surprise for those still in the dark. If you haven't then buckle up, youre in for quite a ride!

In-Game Updates
Bug slaying time!
The content is finally 100% finished and put together in Unity! This means exactly two things - were days away from the finish line AND, as we speak, were deep in the throes of intensive debugging. This stage in the development of an indie game like ours, with so many layers of complexity, is hard! And not as fun as it sounds. But hey, theres no way but through. Once the polishing up is done, well be ready for the takeoff!
The final battle is EPIC
Guys, theres no way we can convey with words just how incredible the mother of all final battles is. Its the final battle which ties up every single story. Therell be exciting danger, dangerous excitement, and Sayri, aided by your gaming skills, will get to prove himself as the rightful Guardian of Lore! Will you beat all odds and become the savior of legends? Or will you succumb to the evil forces seeking to destroy the memories of your kin?
You asked for a spell cheat sheet and we gave you one!
Several streamers and testers expressed the need for a visual reminder of Sayris many spells! Our prince is a very powerful mage whose incredible, customizable spells may have been a tad difficult to remember. But no more! Now, when you press the casting button, a cheat sheet appears to remind you of the key combination for each spell. In case you have an extraordinary memory, there'll be an option in the pause menu to disable the spell cheat sheet. Your wishes are our commands, but we also want to give you the freedom to choose what suits your playing style best.
New Demo version and a super polished tutorial!
We released a new demo a short while ago! Among some incredible features, you get the chance to win the final sword of the game. This weapon is unlike any other you will encounter throughout our indie masterpiece - get the chance to wield a two-handed big badass sword!

As regards the new tutorial, it looks extremely different from the old one! It truly is something else. The details are ravishing and the backgrounds are, hands down, otherworldly! We have the most talented team of designers and digital artists.

We have also updated our controller system: you can now customize your keyboard or controller combo. The choice is yours!

Additional Guardian of Lore Updates and Highlights
Guardian of Lore Release Date set for *drumroll*
Mark your calendars, folks, Guardian of Lore is set to be released on May 18th! This date is the definitive one and is coming up fast. Theres just no accurate way to describe the extent of our excitement as the day approaches well probably realize whats going on once were past it. Theres just so much effort behind every level, every bad guy and weapon, every character and background. Still, we made lemonade with every lemon life threw at us! Thats how determined we are. We were positive we would create an indie game masterpiece, and we did it, guys! Just wait and see!

And theres one more cherry on top of this amazing Dev-Log cake! (Can we have another drumroll please? Or is it a bit much?). Top Hat Studios is a publishing and development studio. After a while of sitting on this amazing bit of news, we can finally say that weve reached an agreement with this awesome studio and theyll be taking Guardian of Lore into different game consoles! Firm dates are yet to be set, but needless to say, were super excited!
Guardian of Lore is now on GameJolt!

Digital Dragon Awards, interviews, and team-building activities!
Weve applied to become contenders in the Digital Dragon Awards in Digital Dragons Indie Celebrations online event. It's a huge opportunity for indie developers to promote their work at a time when events and conferences around the world are canceled. Finalists will be announced on May 4th and the event will take place on May 13th. Wish us luck!

On a different note, we were interviewed by an Ecuadorian magazine! An actual, real-life magazine, made of glossy paper! The fact that well each buy a copy to treasure and collect is beyond question. We may or may not be tempted to frame the interview and hang it in our offices. The jury is still out on the verdict! What do you say, folks?

After so much excitement, we felt like we deserved to celebrate with a get-together! The whole team reunited after a long time working from home in an ultra ventilated venue. We had a great time reconnecting, blowing off steam, and planning for the future ahead.

This is it, folks! Well probably be back with a new DevLog after the much-awaited release of our indie masterpiece! Join us on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to be fully updated on all things Guardian of Lore! Guardian of Lore - eyeing the finish line!

In-Game Updates
The finish line is near!
Were super close to finishing all the content in the game WHOA! What?! Does that mean Guardian of Lore will be out soon?! Hold your horses, now! It wont be out just yet, sorry to disappoint you, folks. However, it means the game is that much closer to being ready for the final polishing and debugging rounds.
100% Finished items and New Enemies
All of the items are finished, finally! We made sure to balance the item types properly throughout the game for an optimum gaming experience. Theres a Steam achievement waiting for those heroes who manage to find all the items!

Apart from rounding off the development of all the items, weve added new enemies for Sayri to battle against. At Round 2 Games, were big on providing players with variety, we want them to have an awesome and FUN experience! Well, our new bad guys will surely be very entertaining to beat - one of them will chase you with a ginormous Morning Star (that is, a spiked mace), and the other is ready to take a shot at you with a crossbow. Bet you cant wait to try your hand at beating them!
Your own choice of game buttons!
We cant tell you how many times weve been asked for this feature. Your wishes are our commands, folks! The menu to choose your own combo of game buttons is in the works. And it will be fantastic, we promise!
Unity 3D Particle Effects and New Background Art
Particle effects galore! Weve added this wonderful effect to all of the weapons and the bosses. And boy does it make a difference! Sayris court agrees, even ugly old Cherufe is looking more dapper than ever!

Our star illustrators have been polishing up some of the backgrounds - we are aiming for uniqueness and jaw-dropping scenarios. We want your experience with Guardian of Lore to be one-of-a-kind and were working hard to make it happen.
Slow down, Sayri!
Seems our heros been having way too many Mates lately - you know, those hot infusions made with dried leaves from the Yerba Mate tree? Mate infusions invigorate your body and soul. We have sped Sayri up a bit to increase his agility and to make it easier for players to beat bad guys.

Updates outside of the game
Steam Games Festival is upon us yet again!
The Winter Edition of the Steam Games Festival took place from the 3rd of February to the 9th. We had a blast, as usual! We streamed live on the 8th and had an awesome time. We showcased a whole new level of Guardian of Lore. Did you participate in any of the Steam events?

Heres a recording of our Live Stream in case you were not able to catch it.

[previewyoutube=vdKcD3DxF1Y;full][/previewyoutube]
Round 2 Games at the Global Game Jam 2021
We decided to take a short break from Sayri and his court for some much-needed bonding time and team-building experiences - now, dont go soft on us, folks, there was very little crying and lots of laughter and hard work!

The Global Game Jam, or GGJ for short, took place from the 27th to the 31st of January. Its goal is for developers to come together to create a video game or board game in a very short amount of time. The mission of the game jam is to bring new and fresh ideas into the gaming industry, while empowering individuals to experiment, learn and create collectively.

Without further ado, we present to you, our humble creation - Soul and Found!

[previewyoutube=N5PLMe_7jdY;full][/previewyoutube]

This beauty came to fruition in just four days! A two-player cooperative game. One soul, one body, one mission: to find each other in a magical setting. A mystical desert watches your every move as you struggle to reunite with your other half. We were blown away by the experience and came out of it proudly: our bond as a team rock-solid and our developing skills stronger. All in all, an awe-inspiring experience.
Guardian of Lore Release Date
Shrek, are we there yet?! No, Donkey, were afraid not. Our Steam page date of March 2021 is breathing down our necks. Will the game be released in March?! No, we didn't want to release an unfinished game. Even with our limited resources, we'll push it as much as we need to give you our best game yet. Good things come to those who wait, they say, and we couldnt agree more.

Our times up, folks! Our carriage is about to turn into a pumpkin (dated Cinderella reference youll excuse our old age). You can find us on your favorite social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Were also on Discord, which is our favorite spot for interacting with fans and other fellow developers. Come join us! Click here to join our discord server. You wont regret it. See you next month!

Guardian of Lore New Legends!!

It's a new year and for us, it's the year of GOL (Guardian of Lore... of course!!)

And with the new year, and the upcoming full release for GOL, we'll be taking part in the Steam Summer Festival: February edition.

This gives us a new opportunity to Livestream our game and we'd like to take the opportunity to show you a Latin-American Myth-Based level not featured in the Demo (Available of course on Steam).

Watch as our own Audiosource (AKA: Charly) will take a shot at one of the hardest bosses in the game while we try to answer any question you may have and might want to have the answer to. Do you think he'll rise up to the challenge?

Which level/legend you're asking?

Here's a small taste of what's coming:

Join us on Monday as we take on this dude and try to save some innocent girls about to be thrown into a volcano.

Meet the Dancing Boss and the Greedy Evil Brothers!

So September is finally over! Did anyone wake up the guy from Green Day? Didnt that joke stop being funny five years ago? :( September lasted at least as much as January, didnt it? It must probably be the back to back development sessions were immersed in! While the global pandemic still rages on, we have gotten used to new working habits and are trying to make the most of this situation. Sayri and the rest of the Guardian of Lore gang have been thriving in this new normal, let us tell you more about the changes weve implemented!

Guardian of Lore In-Game Updates
Double Trouble for the Guardian of Lore
In our August Dev-log, titled Second Level Round-up, Kickstarting our Future and Much More!, we discussed the bad guys of the Flower of Lirolay level we had been working on: a pair of greedy, evil brothers! They look the part, too, their frowns are deep, their muscles are huge, and they are as mean as they come! They have it in for our guy Sayri, of course. With such strong characters, working on their artificial intelligence was quite a challenge, to say the least. They put up quite the fight, let us tell you, we can say it will be very interesting and will make a splash in the gaming community. What is more, the animations of the attacks are to die for!

[previewyoutube=MVQm5-EQocM;leftthumb][/previewyoutube]
Dancing bosses, new weapons, and more!
At the beginning of September, we began giving life and color to the Aya Huma level! Its such a vivid tale, full of music and brightness. Our design team truly went all out and had a blast playing freely with the design elements of their choice - they got to experiment and the results are outstanding.

The Ecuadorian solstice festival, Inti Raymi, is a celebration for all involved. We were inspired by the Aya Huma dancers to create Sayris coat. This coat is the players reward for finishing the level. It makes Sayri kick his feet up in a jolly dance if the player keeps him still for a while. Dancing is invigorating, for sure, Sayris health bar will refill slightly while he dances his sorrows away!

We have also been drawing the weapons of this level which will be an addition to the already existing weapons in the game. There are three Aya Huma dancers, whom the player will face throughout the level. The final battle is also under construction - the final boss is a cheerful character who dances nonstop during the battle. It was a bit of a challenge, but also quite entertaining, designing a boss who dances all the time!

The Virgin and the Cherfe level is almost done! We worked hard on the scenery and it turned out gorgeous. This tale takes place in beautiful Chile, so you can expect to see breathtaking landscapes as you aid Sayri in his quest to save the Lore from oblivion. Also, the Cherfe - a Mapuche lava demon who feasts on virgin, you know, charming dude - is ready for 3D modeling! Heres a sneak peek at the "behind the scenes" of this terrifying character:

Among some of the new items weve been creating for the game is the delicious Fritada! Its a typical Ecuadorian dish sold in food carts, consisting mainly of fried pork accompanied by corn, cheese, and assorted carb-filled goodies. Wholly deliciousness, Batman, its spicy, hearty and so very mouthwatering. What effect do you think the Fritada will have on Sayri? Lets just hope he doesnt demand a nap after such a treat!

Guardian of Lore Updates Outside of the Game
Did anyone say New Trailer?! We did!
The development and design team has been hard at work on a new version of the trailer! We love the original one, but taking into account how far weve come in terms of design in the various new levels, we feel its become outdated. There are so many new and incredible sceneries, characters, and weapons, its time to flaunt them!

However exciting it might be to create a new trailer, it does pose certain challenges. What we truly enjoy is submerging ourselves in designing the video game per-se. However, we do know that we have to take care of everything around the game as well!
Exciting online events and Crowdfunding news
This past month has been quite eventful for us! For starters, we were selected to participate in Unidos (United, in Spanish) a Livestream celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in the USA, organized by the Puerto Rico Game Developers Association (PRGDA) and Latinx In Gaming. The Twitch live stream took place on the 11th of October. We had a BLAST! And needless to say, we were super excited and humbled to have been selected as participants.

In our August Devlog, we told you all about Guardian of Lores upcoming crowdfunding plans. Well, we didnt manage to meet our September 30th-October 15th deadline for the campaign. These things happen, friends, sometimes deadlines are too ambitious, and, you know what? Its okay not to make it sometimes. Were only human! We have families, social lives - even during this darned pandemic, were social butterflies! Well, that might have been a stretch - and were working on several different fronts at the same time. The campaign will be completed very, very soon, and you will be the first to find out all about it!

The shows over, for now, folks! Stay tuned for more Guardian of Lore updates, exclusive sneak peeks, and online event news. Our community manager is eager to meet you guys on the major social media platforms, like us on Facebook [https://www.facebook.com/Guardian.of.Lore ], follow us on Instagram and Twitter and join our Discord server! Were partial to our Discord community, its seriously the coolest, hope to see ya there!

Pandemic Indie Game Dev Multitasking!

Hey, folks! Hasnt it been ages since we last reported back to you with updates on the Guardian of Lore universe? Actually, no! It feels like April, but its September already, can you believe it? This was the month we had originally planned for our Indie platformer release date. Alas, the Covid-19 pandemic took us by surprise and turned our lives upside down. The good news is that were working full steam ahead now, fully immersed in this new normal, and our new release date of February 2021 is set in stone. Come on, now, fasten your seatbelts and join us in this magical mystery tour to the depths of the coolest Latin American Folk tales.

Guardian of Lore In-Game Updates
Indie Game Development - Level Hard: Multitasking Lords
At the Round2Games headquarters - now, our own homes! Totally unthinkable a few months ago -, its all work and all play! There are no dull boys in our dev team, thats for sure. We are working on several levels at a time, which keeps us on our toes as well as fully entertained. When you spend every day doing what you love, work hardly feels like a chore.

Well, then, what Guardian of Lore levels are we working on? What changes and updates have we implemented this past month?

  • We are reaching the final instances in the development of the level called The Marvelous Talisman. This Quechua folktale revolves around well, you guessed correctly a marvelous talisman. Whats the deal with this amulet? Well, we cant say yet, sorry folks! Its classified info. What we can share is that this level is unlike any other we have developed so far. Theres no final boss, for starters, and it ends on a weird note. Why? Thats classified too. Youll have to play it to find out ;)

  • The final bosses of the levels Flower of Lirolay and The Virgin and the Cherufe'' are almost complete. The latter is probably one of our favorite final bosses: the Cherufe is a reptilian volcanic demon who feasts on virgins. Sounds like a charming dude, right? Well, hes not! Hes likely to be the hardest final boss in the whole game.

  • Were testing new game mechanics for two levels: Talisman and Cherufe (for short). As you may know by now, were an ambitious bunch. We want the player to experience something different in terms of play in every level, and to take something with them after every level. Thus, each level has a different mechanic or a special something the other levels dont have.

  • The Aya Huma level is finished! There are still some details to polish, as well as the battle with the final boss, but were right on track! It was exciting to be able to develop Ecuadors very own folktale. The team has added some Easter Eggs to the level, some hidden goodies, which may be hard to find for those who are not very familiar with Ecuadorian culture. Still, it was a fun task! Its also one of the most detailed levels.
Extra Guardian of Lore Updates and Goodies
Of course, theres more, guys, dont fret! So, what else is new? As usual, weve added more particle effects that look SICK (yeah, were shouting). Our boy Josh, the ex-intern turned fully-fledged Round2Games team member, has been handling these types of effects. Check out his awesome work!

Twitter Video

There also are new sound effects! In this regard, were ecstatic to announce that *drum roll* Guardian of Lores first-ever track is available for download on our Discord server! Its been up for a while now, those of you on Discord has been enjoying it for a few weeks. [Hey, you, yeah, you! Those on our discord server have access to all sorts of amazing sneak peeks and perks! Join us now, clicking here. Charlie did an incredible job on the music for the Aya Huma level. A soothing flute composition to guide Sayris steps towards becoming the savior of this folktale.

Check out Charlie's work on our Twitter feed.

Weve also been working on the level called The Snowy Mountains of Merida. Without giving too much away, and if youve been paying attention to our social networks, Merida has many exciting features. Theres a Goddess of Nature, beautiful Caribay, daughter of the Sun, and the Moon. If you dont save her, she becomes corrupted and attacks you. Yikes! There are also five white eagles, one of which comes to Sayri's aid during the final battle with the boss and joins him for awesome aerial combat. In this level, theres also the opportunity to acquire a super cool Frost Spell (no pun intended). This spell can also be upgraded according to the players desires.

Check out Merida's week on Social Media

EVA Play Peoples Choice Award, New Platform, and More Kickstarter news!

Keep the good times rolling! Proud as peacocks, were excited to announce we were selected to participate in the EVA Play Peoples Choice Award! We didnt take home the prize, but being selected was very exciting nonetheless! It means people outside of our own team appreciate our work and love what we do.

Guardian of Lore on a new platform! From the 3rd of September to the 10th, we were available for download on GameRound.CO, along with other three games. Even if it was just a couple of weeks, it gave us the chance to reach 2500 eager players. What a great opportunity to dazzle video game fans!

Were still hard at work on our Kickstarter campaign. In the spirit of a great warrior like Sayri, were fighting hard against every single obstacle weve encountered in our path. As you very well know, were from South America, which presents us with difficult legal and fiscal challenges. We wont give up! Were more motivated than ever - the content were coming up with is I-N-S-A-N-E- Seriously, guys, we cant wait to show you what were working on, there are tons of surprises we wished we could spill the beans on but alas, we cant! Youll just have to wait and see!

This is all for now, folks! Well be back before you know it with more updates on our beloved Guardian of Lore and the nerdy team of indie devs behind it.

Dont forget to follow us on our social media networks! Were on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Discord! Join us on your favorite network for the latest news, sneak peeks, and fun everyday mishaps! See ya!

Second Level Round-up, Kickstarting our Future and Much More!

We blinked and another month went by! We sound more and more like old people, dont we? =( Anyway, were back, folks! With tons of news on your favorite indie platformer: *drumroll* Guardian of Lore! So, what have we been up to this past month? Just wait and see! We promise youll enjoy the read and the ride! ;)

In-Game Updates
Rounding-up Guardian of Lores 2nd Level!
Weve given the final touches to the Snowy Mountains of Merida level. This is the 2nd level overall, in case youre just joining us now. Boy, is it looking amazing! What have we changed?

  • Some background text and several technical fixes we wont go into too much detail about. See, every single one of our levels is quite different from the last, so theres always something to modify a certain platform may fall in a certain way thats not quite how weve envisioned it, or enemies may appear and disappear before our eyes. These challenges keep us on our toes all the time! But thats part of the charm, no time to get bored!

  • Before the fight with the final boss, we added an animation during which the player summons an eagle just like the boss does. The final battle is an epic aerial combat!

  • New enemy alert! Heres the evil - and quite unsightly, may we add - ChonChon!

So, whats the story behind this guys very distinct appearance? We wont drop spoilers, dont worry. In the Mapuche mythology, evil wizards had the ability to separate their heads from their bodies, turn their ears into wings and grow claws.

The Flower of Lirolay - or Guardian of Lores 3rd Level - going full Steam ahead!

The Flower of Lirolay level is the hardest so far in terms of gameplay. If the player wants to follow the folktale to a T, theyll have to be skilled fighters and be very precise when jumping from platform to platform.

Were a bit behind schedule in the development of this level. Its a massive level indeed! However, were now working on the boss fight! Youll be fighting against the tribal chieftains two older brothers who are brought back to life by the final boss. Sounds bad, right? It will be!

As regards add ons to the level, weve created a new item. It occupies the slot of a consumable item, but it becomes active when you die and prevents you from losing Knowledge Points. Its the mythical Flower of Lirolay! The actual flower described in the folktale. Weve also added a new type of coat made of bamboo canes. It attacks your enemies when you touch them! Sayri wont want to take it off!

Aya Huma - Ecuadorian Folktale is in the works!

The development team has finally reached the point of designing the Ecuadorian folktale, their home country. This has been a huge boost in morale for everybody! Were having a blast, for sure. This level features the story of a character, Aya Huma, who celebrates the Sun God (Inti Raymi). It will be shorter than The Flower of Lirolay, but just as incredible, full of music and color. Aya Huma is a cheerful fellow, so famous were his lively involvements in the Inti Raymi celebrations that he became a legend. At this point, were focused on the architecture of the level, but we can let you guys know Sayri will earn a spell during this adventure!

In case you are wondering... AYA WHAT?! This is the traditional costume and the boss inspired by it.

Its not just in-game updates weve been pretty busy outside of the game as well!

Covids Still Bugging Us

We decided we wouldnt dedicate too many words to this d*mn virus, but its somewhat inevitable! Were all deeply affected by it in one way or another. We are finally catching up after having fallen behind schedule due to the pandemic. In the beginning, we actually thought this would blow over in a matter of weeks a month or two at most. But we were mistaken, obviously.

Weve adjusted to our new reality and were making splendid progress on the game, even if were working Monday to Monday for up to 14 hours a day! Were tired, our nerves are frayed, weve probably aged a decade this year but the results are a-ma-zing! The game art is insane, theres nothing even remotely clichd about any of the levels, they all have different dynamics and different paths to follow. We truly hope players are able to see that and appreciate it.

Kicking off our Kickstarter Campaign

Our Kickstarter Campaign is well underway! It will probably be finished by September 15th. Our plan is for it to be released between the 30th of September and the 15th of October. The idea behind the campaign is to raise funds for several side projects related to Guardian of Lore, which we wouldnt be able to see through without the funding from interested supporters. It also means the possibility of adding features to the game that we had to put aside for time and monetary constraints, but which we truly wanted to develop. What are some of the stretch goals were planning for our campaign?

  • A Novice or Easy mode for the video game.
  • A Comic Trilogy! It would tell Yebichais tale: how does a spoiled prince become the first Guardian of Lore and create the Mystic Library?
  • Boss Fight mode for the game! Players would get a chance to relive their epic fights and try different fighting styles against the bosses, once theyve been unlocked.
  • Guardian of Lore in more languages! French and Italian, for sure, and maybe even another language requested by the Backers.
  • Port of the video game for different consoles.

And speaking of ports, were trying our hardest to port the Guardian of Lore demo on MAC, but were still struggling. The MAC architecture is giving us massive headaches! We wont give up, though!

Thats all, folks! Did anyone else imagine chewing carrot noises? Is it just us? Please tell us you got the Bugs Bunny joke. Okay, enough with the ancient references.

Have an amazing August, well be working tirelessly to turn our indie masterpiece into... Well, to make it even more masterpiece-y!

Guardian Of Lore and the Steam Game Festival Experience

Guys, were still quarantined due to the Coronavirus! Wed hoped wed have different news to share come June, but the truth is were still working from home but hey, were making the most of it, and we can still wear slippers and bed hair to every team meeting. Were confident no one wants to see that live some things are better left to the imagination. Its been a super eventful month for us, and were excited to share every bit with all of you. Sit tight, cause Guardian of Lore is back, and we have news!

Guardian Of Lore @ Steam Game Festival - Summer Edition

Wed shared in our previous devlog post that wed been selected to participate in the Summer Edition of the Steam Game Festival. You can think about it, dream about it, obsess about it, but actually living it woah, its something else entirely.

We spent the better part of June tweaking the demo so it would be perfect for the Festival, and we must say it was not as grueling as we thought it would be. Weve become accustomed to working longer and longer hours to make up for the inevitable delays working from home has presented us with. So, by the time the Festival was upon us, the demo and the gorgeous art we created to accompany it were beyond ready to see the light of day. We had 1,200 downloads and over 500 wishlists during the Steam Game Festival, which we feel are great numbers. Most of those who downloaded the Guardian of Lore demo played for a solid half hour! All in all, the stats are encouraging. We still have a ways to go, but were on the right track!

As far as the live streamings, the Q and As (Questions and Answers), and the Dev Walkthroughs, we didnt exactly know what to expect, so we were a bit nervous. What if no one showed up? What if we ended up with our neighbors and cousins asking us the same old questions weve been answering for years at barbecues? (We love you, friends, and family! Dont take this the wrong way!). Amazingly, new people showed up! Actual fans! And they asked insightful questions. We had fun! We werent exactly expecting to actually enjoy being in the spotlight so much, we might get used to this.

All in all, it was a very enriching experience. One we hope to repeat many, many more times.

In-Game Changes
New Levels Alert!
Guardian of Lore has two new levels full of bad dudes ready to steal Sayris thunder! Or, rather, destroy the Lore but you get the drift. The first one is another tutorial! Its aim is to give players some more combat training so theyll be ready to face the music in the real game, especially the eyes on the walls, those bad guys have proven to be pretty hard to kill. And the second one is a scene in the Yerba Mate folktale. An enemy army tries one last time to murder the hunter while he is fast asleep, just like in the legend.

And theres more!

Tons of cool changes up ahead, keep your eyes peeled!
Some knights throw bombs!
Weve revamped the animation of Sayri killing the Yaguarete Boss to give the sense of true achievement. Apart from giving you the spell, it also drops an object now. Catch it, Sayri!
We held a contest in the (virtual) office - the loser would get to design our new website! Daniel may need therapy after this, but the website sure looks awesome!
We fixed a gazillion bugs, as usual. [We may or may not be exaggerating here.]
We replaced our previous spikes. They were hard to see and testers often had a hard time spotting them. Now, they are 3D and when you get close enough, pointy spikes come out! Ouch!

Weve added life bars to the eyes on the wall now. These guys are round (you know, like eyes XD) and a bit ornamented, so it was hard to figure out exactly where to hit them to cause damage. Now its more clear!
The whole library has been polished [Wow, we do sound like Cinderella, do we not?]. It looks even more amazing now!
Now, when you kill a spider, the patch it left on the wall goes away.
We've completely revamped the Knowledge Extractor. Now it's quite different from the Inventory. It's also more functional now - it allows you to create items in groups instead of one by one.

Extra! Extra! Guardian of Lore Demo Release Date is *drumroll*

So, weve closed our Pre-Beta registration forms for good. Aaaand, weve set a release date for the demo! Yup, it will be released on July 22nd! Woot woot! Add this on your calendars, folks, you wont want to miss it! Truth be told, we were expecting to release the demo in March, but life happened! It took us a while longer, but here we are! A mere weeks before the big day!
Guardian of Lore and the Flor del Lirolay
Design on the folktale La Flor del Lirolay (Lirolay Flower) has begun! Were hoping well be able to design it while also designing the Merida folktale. Our aim is to catch up on the time we lost working from home these past three months. Its hard, guys, every time we have to consult with each other, we have to set up conferences and share screens instead of simply turning our chairs and speaking face to face. But, you know, this will pass, and something amazing will come out of it, were sure.

Times up! Its been great, thank you for making it this far. We look forward to interacting with you all on our Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter pages. Also, make sure you join our Discord community, its super active and we share many sneak peeks and bits of news we dont share anywhere else. See ya next month!
Yerba Mate Myth (optional extra reading):
Argentinians, Paraguayans, and Uruguayans are so used to drinking mate they cant even start to explain what it means to them. They inherit this tradition from the Native American People around their borders: The Guaranies.

This is the legend on how they acquired this sacred infusion:

The moon in the Misiones sky saw everything from above. Yac illuminated the evergreen forest, the Iguazu waterfalls. It saw some birds, such as hummingbirds and toucans: but the foliage was so dense, the green of the forest so compact, that it could not see much more. Yac, the moon, did not know the animals or the people who lived on the floor of Misiones and this made her curious. She wanted to go down to earth, but she decided not to do it, and although she did not know the dangers she could find, she always thought the same idea.

Without knowing how, she convinced Ara, the cloud to visit the land. Together, Ara and Yac they became girls and went down into the jungle. Very happily, they started to investigate. They looked like two girls doing pranks.

How wonderful! - they said.

How many plants they did not know! They recognized the fern, the orchids, and also the drunken stick, typical of the area. They also loved the sound of water and the sounds of small animals. The whole jungle was a concert of voices and sounds. They were so distracted that they did not hear the stealthy steps of a jaguar approaching, crouching, ready to attack them. When they saw it, the animal was too close; They did not know what to do. His gaze was threatening and he was ready to jump, when an arrow shot by an old Guarani hunter stuck in the side of the jaguar. The animal turned around, wounded and roaring, but a new arrow ended his life.

The Indian looked for the women he had saved. He wanted to know how they were after such a big scare. However, he did not see them. Only the trees and the darkness remained in the dense jungle.

That night, the old hunter lay down in his hammock as he always did. But this time he had an extraordinary dream. There the menacing jaguar appeared again. Once again he shot his arrows and beat him, but now he saw the women, with their very white skin and long hair, who had escaped during the day. In the dream, one of the girls called him by his name. In a soft voice, she said:

We are Yac and Ara. We want to thank you for saving our lives. You were very brave and you deserve a reward. Tomorrow, when you wake up, you will find a tree when you leave your house. It's called Ca. With its toasted and ground leaves, you can prepare a drink that brings hearts closer and drives away loneliness. This is our gift to you, your children, and your children's children.

The next day, when leaving the communal house occupied by the Guarani, the hunter found the new tree without difficulty. There were several specimens that had oval and bright leaves. He called his companions and repeated the instructions he had received during the dream. They roasted and ground the leaves, as Yac had said. Once this was done, they put them in a hollowed zucchini and added water. All that was missing was a thin cane that would serve as a straw, but they soon got one. With great curiosity, the hunter tried the new drink. He liked it and he passed it on to the others. The container was passed from hand to hand as a round. Everyone liked this new drink and they agreed to call it "mate".

How we found the silver lining during Quarantine

Were so excited about this time of the month! That marvelous time when we share our updates, new developments, hopes, and also some inevitable setbacks and even some fears. Guardian of Lore has come a long way, even in these trying times. The team is still quarantined, as must be most of our readership. It makes us incredibly happy to be able to share with you some of our many ups and -luckily- very few downs and bring some happiness into your day! Creating this indie game and building a community around it certainly brings lots of joy into ours. Wanna know what went down this month? Continue reading to find out!

Guardian of Lore Discord Community: The Bright Side of The Quarantine

In our last devlog , we were pretty open and honest about the challenges we were facing as game developers during the mandatory quarantine following the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak. Indie video game development from home is quite different and causes inevitable delays on different fronts. It forces development teams, in some cases, to direct their efforts to other areas of the project.

One of those areas we focused our attention on was growing a tight-knit community on Discord. Were ecstatic to report that our followers are eloquent and insightful, and, most of all, fun! Were thoroughly enjoying the experience of engaging with our Discord followers. Join us! Follow this link. We share exclusive content including game art in the form of Wallpapers, additional information on the video game characters, and even the original soundtrack of the first level.

On the same line, we have also been working on our mailing campaign and weve had a few more people test the game and give us their reviews.

In-Game Changes

Sayri Spells Trouble for his Enemies

Thereve been a TON of changes to the gameplay, as well as a few additions! For starters, Sayri has a healing spell now! Players can earn it in the tutorial. This spell has proven to be a great way to balance the gameplay and complete the spell system. The difference between this spell and the others lies in the fact that you cant level it up, you find the power-ups across the game. When you acquire this new spell, or any other, for that matter, theres a nifty new animation weve implemented. Check it out!

[previewyoutube=hiUhzc4TyXI;full][/previewyoutube]

We have also changed several character animations, the most important being Sayris sword and axe attack combo. Now, enemies are sent flying and collapse after the last blow. This third, and final, blow also deals 25% more damage. What else is new, animation-wise? Sayris aerial sword attack, and an animation of a stunned Sayri after receiving a hard blow! Were also working on an animation of Sayri casting a spell, its coming along quite nicely! Oh, youd like some sneak peeks, right? You can find some in our Discord server ;)

Mixing it up: Knowledge Points and New Bad Guys

There have been some interesting changes in the way you can earn and lose knowledge points. [By the way, in case you need a little refresher, knowledge points are collected throughout the game and work as a sort of currency/XP which allows you to level up spells and acquire other goodies.] Now, when you die, you lose knowledge. Ouch, it does feel a bit more dangerous, doesnt it? Never fear, though, bosses drop knowledge during fights so you wont go without. In a nutshell, dont die too much and kick some good boss butt and youll have amazing spells! Oh, and bosses drop a scroll that maximizes your total HP. Pretty neat, huh?

On a different note, weve implemented a Knight who throws bombs! So you can expect a wider variety of bad guys to vanquish. This new dude has added A LOT of difficulty to the game. But hey, whats life without a little risk? Also, A new section of the tutorial is on the works and weve also changed the game fonts to give the game a more cohesive look.

As usual, tons of bugs were taken care of, at least 15 big ones, and a whole lot of little ones we came across. Also, you can no longer go through your enemies - gotta fight em to move past them!

Guardian of Lore @ Steam Game Festival

This is H U G E! We were mindblown when we received the news that we had been selected to take part in the Steam Game Festival. This event takes place from June 9th to the 14th and is a celebration of amazing upcoming games through demos and live developer events. Indie Game Dev from Home [ - Lots of Guardian Of Lore Improvements and Challenge

Its been weeks of mandatory quarantine for most of the world, and the Guardian of Lore universe is no exception. Sayris been weathering the storm with us at home, wondering whats with the change in scenery and why on Earth were working in our pajamas (dont try to deny it, dude, we KNOW youve worn your slippers to one too many work meetings). Its not every day that you get to save the world by staying home, so were doing our part, just like you! Read on to find out what weve been up to these past few weeks!

We want YOU to join Guardian of Lore - Pre Beta Testing is UP!

How many platformer games inspired by Native American Lore have you come across? If the cricket sounds are loud on your end, we have your back! Guardian of Lore gives you a chance to delve into the stories that guided the lives of thousands of people from all parts of America for hundreds of years, all while vanquishing a wide array of bad guys with the help of incredible spells and all sorts of offensive and defensive weapons. Follow this link [https://guardianoflore.com/pre-beta-sign-up/], fill-up the form and submit it for a chance to test Guardian of Lore! Youll have a front-row seat at the shaping of this marvelous, one-of-a-kind universe. Your input matters! So, come on board, lend a hand, were ready to launch!
In-game Development - Details make all the difference!
Back in our February Devlog update Yerba Mate, Testing and More! (Previous Announcement), we spilled the beans on our unofficial testing before our Pre-Beta subscription was launched (a Pre-pre Beta Testing, if you will?). The observations, comments, and suggestions we received were super useful and gave us lots to focus on. Some of the changes weve implemented since then may appear small, but they make a ton of difference in gameplay and general feel of the game! Heres a list of some of the improvements weve put into effect:

A cancel spell button! If you come to regret casting a spell, you can take it back. If youre using a controller, its the RB button, whereas if youre playing on a computer, its the keyboard key Z.
We replaced the icons of resistance, immunity, and weakness of shields and armor for words, as they were somewhat confusing.

We reversed the position of the inventory and the glossary, with the former on the left and the latter on the right.
The spheres which grant Sayri knowledge were replaced for new ones! Arent these tiny orbs neat?

We revamped the spell icons on all menus and inventories. Now they look like this:

On the Pause menu, we added an option to access the Tutorials. This gives players the chance to brush up on the mechanics of the game any time they desire.
The last Boss has been given a final touch-up: the rays he shoots from his eyes are finally done!
Heavy duty Indie In-Game Dev
Apart from improving Guardian of Lore aesthetically, weve been hard at work behind the scenes, making sure the game runs better and better all the time. What does this entail? Check out some of the changes and improvements weve implemented this past month:

Debugging! Theres no jumping on bugs to make them disappear, Mario style. We have to straight-up roll our sleeves and work through them until they are fixed for good (which in turn may or may not bring new bugs, but that comes with the job!).

Check out this moves!!

Weve been paying special attention to the written content of the game: grammar and spelling check galore.
Weve rebuilt the platforms of every level. Now they run way more smoothly and load faster. Its easier to realize where Sayri can step on and the game is 1 GB lighter.
The Animal Spirit spell is up and running! Players get to cast a spell that takes the form of an animal. The first form is a Jaguar, and weve just finished another level of the spell, which is an Eagle. Players can control these animals - theyll be a great aid against the Lore destroying army of foes!
Weve advanced A LOT in the development and design of the second level of Guardian of Lore: Snowy Mountains of Merida.
Game Dev from home? Challenge accepted!
We wont lie, folks, working from home has presented us with greater challenges than we anticipated. Those of us with families are tackling the extra workload of homeschooling as well as household chores, on top of designing the indie game of our dreams. We've been working around the clock, running on very little sleep and absolutely no weekends (Saturdays and Sundays, whats that now? Were living on an eternal Monday!).

Still, when you want something as much as we do, theres no other choice but facing hardships and obstacles head-on. Were taking our Guardian of Lores example now, and following his lead. We will protect our project with everything in us, and power through. Theres also an evil army out there destroying our very real world, we have to stay home to fight it, and so we will do. Our project may or may not be delayed in the process, but we will prevail, figuratively and literally.
Guardian of Lore in Discord and Steam
Snowy Mountains of Merida, here Sayri Comes!

This past month has been quite a rollercoaster! The world came to a halt after the coronavirus outbreak turned into a full-blown pandemic. People went into voluntary (or mandatory, in some countries) confinement to try and flatten the epidemic curve. Full houses, desert streets, nature reclaiming ultra known geographical landmarks (crocodiles and swans in the canals of Venice?!). As regards Round2Games... were happy to report were completely safe and sound, working tirelessly to turn our vision, our dreams, into a reality: an epic Indie Game you wont be able to put down!

Whats new with Guardian of Lore? We have lots of exciting updates to share. Keep reading for the full report!

Guardian of Lore March 20 Update - Controller compatibility

We want players to enjoy our action-adventure game as much as possible, which means we must ensure that Guardian of Lore is compatible with the most popular video game controllers. We have improved the compatibility of the game with Xbox controllers (Xbox 360 wireless controller and Xbox One controller), PlayStation 4 controllers (Dual Shock 4) and with generic controllers. What is more, the game detects which was the last controller input and changes the in-game icons depending on which controller youre using. Hither art some captures of our computer screens which supporteth our claims! Or, in other words, check out these screenshots! Best leave the fancy English to the pros (hint: not us, we should stick to game development).

Other improvements along the same line include the deactivation of the mouse so as to keep it out of sight. You can still use it on the menus, as it comes back to life once you click any button. Out of sight, out of mind! We need your head 100% in the game, no distractions, for Sayris sake!

Guardian of Lore March 20 Update - New colors for Sayris wardrobe!

With great coats, comes a great responsibility wait, thats not how it went. Anyway, Sayris new outfits are both awesome AND powerful! Apart from giving our hero a brand new look, they add a little special something to the gameplay.

The coat Sayri gets in the Yerba Mate level is made of Yaguarete fur and increases his speed. Sayri finds it after doing a certain action we won't disclose at a place we won't talk about... aren't we the nicest devs ever? You won't get spoilers from us!

Were already working on next levels coat, which will be made out of ice and white eagle feathers. This special coat will allow Sayri to fall a tad slower. There will be 9 special outfits, one for each level!

Guardian of Lore March 20 Update - New level on the works!

While were at it, let us break the news *drum roll* Were full on working on the level Sierras Nevadas de Merida! Sierra Nevada (in Spanish, Snowy Mountain) is a mountain range and national park in the Andes, in the western part of Venezuela, in South America. Beautiful beyond measure, Merida is rich in myths and legends, both of indigenous origin and those created through time by peasants.

Sayris guardian duties will have him protecting the lore in this incredible snowy mountain range. Were just a teensy bit envious of all the traveling our guy is doing, wed totally follow him on Instagram if he had an account! We guess all the boss fighting and lore saving leaves him no time for taking pictures.

We have no sneak peeks to share yet, but we can promise you beautifully crafted landscapes that will do gorgeous Merida justice.

Guardian of Lore March 20 Update - New trailer!

Our brand spanking new trailer is finished, and were over the moon. We wont lie, it took a while to put together. But the results of such hard work are more than worth it! You can see it on our Steam page >>

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1211740/Guardian_of_Lore/.

And, while youre there, you might as well add us to your wishlist, if you havent done so already.

Have you ever caught yourself admiring our artwork and our characters and wondering what youd be able to accomplish as a Guardian of Lore? Here's your chance to take your imagination on a ride across the Mystic Library and the Yerba Mate Level. We present you with an action packed trailer with out-of-this-world music. But dont take our word for it, go check it out, well wait right here!

Guardian of Lore March 20 Update - Extras!

We have added more bad guys to the Behind The Walls tutorial, for players to exercise casting spells and using weapons against their enemies. We realized our testers had a hard time against the final boss of the tutorial - the need for more fighting practice was in high order. This way, players will have acquired fighting skills along the tutorial and will be on top fighting form once the Behind The Walls Boss tries to stop them from saving the Lore.

New pause menu to match the rest of the menus in the game.

Sayri can now cast the Animal Spirit spell! Our Guardian first conjures up a jaguar, but as he levels up the spell, new animals are unlocked!

Weve fixed well over 15 big bugs, and quite a few small ones too.

Thats all for now, friends! Over the course of the next few weeks, development improvements will surely start coming more slowly, specially now were to stay home until the virus is under control. Its a small sacrifice to make to ensure the infection rate slows down. Stay home with us, follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, drop us a line, well be happy to hear from you! Stay safe!
