SUMMER SALE Underhero 4.1.3 Patch notes!

Hi there!


Today is the start of the summer sale and Underhero is 50% OFF for the first time ever! If you still haven't tried it yet, this is the perfect chance to jump into the metaphorical pool known as Underhero. The water is cool, clean, and all your friends are here drinking smoothies and floating carelessly while you play videogames... in the pool?
We're not particularly sure where we're going with this, so here's the bug fixes for patch 1.4.3

Bug fixes:


  • The song "Fighting until the very end" was not unlocking for some players.
  • Left shift key was not working by default for the shield.
  • Shield default key also not working during the shield tutorial.
  • Game over menu had a repeating key input that was causing issues with the menu.
  • Movement keys not working during the ice skating competition by default or with rebinding.
  • Level up menu couldn't be navigated with D-Pads.
  • There was a coin getting stuck in the ceiling of the Dark Maze.
  • W key not working to zoom in the fanart artwork in the fanart room.
  • During the final battle with [REDACTED], the Masked Kid would get stuck in a falling state when landing in a certain way on platforms. This would in turn, send the player flying through the floor and out of bounds. Yikes.

Also NEW game!?


That's right! We have started to show some of our progress with our new game! Mainly concept art, but we will slowly work our way towards gameplay gifs, trailers, music and more. You can see some of it on our Twitter, and we also have a cozy devlog channel in our discord server. We know you might be thinking this is a sequel, but nope! We are working on an entirely new IP with new characters, gameplay, world, music etc. An Underhero sequel is not entirely discarded, but we want to try new things and improve our skills before we attempt another game in the Underhero universe. Underhero 4.1.2 Patch notes

Hello!


Today we have a more by the numbers update, we mostly fixed some bugs and adjusted a few things.

Bug fixes:


  • Swimming bug where the character would jump repeatedly when holding down the jump button with keyboard.
  • Certain lava switch doing a disappearing act.
  • Buying things with keyboard unintentionally bought many items at once with one key press.
  • HUD appearing with every jump when it shouldn't.
  • Couldn't delete files with keyboard because the "d" key was now back. Whoops.
  • It was impossible to hide inside the hiding spots in World 5 with keyboard.
  • Some Elizabeth dialogue prompts not working with keyboard in World 5.
  • Trying to type a name for a file with a controller connected would cause the "s" and "d" key to respond during typing, and would accept or close respectively.
  • Issue where drawing tablets were being detected as gamepads, which meant keyboard players would have play with Xbox icon prompts.
  • Using a forced resolution no longer resets when returning to the main menu.
  • Cloud saves now working on Linux version.
In other news, there is a super cool fan effort right now to mod Underhero and potentially collaborate with the community to create translations for the game! The tool is still in the early testing stages and it might not happen at all mind you, but we are working closely with them to help as much as we can. Underhero 4.1.1 Patch notes (Key binding update!)

Hello there!


Were happy to say that with this new update Underhero now has controller remapping and key binding. It took us more work than we originally anticipated, but hopefully it improves the game for more people.

What's new:


  • Completely redone controller menu.
  • Edit inputs for both keyboards and controllers on the main menu, or during play through the pause menu.
  • Inputs are saved after the game is closed.
  • For quick access press "F12" to open the new menu, and "F11" to reset to default inputs.
  • Most gamepads will be compatible with the game now (no more Xbox exclusivity :P).
  • This update will also be available for Mac and Linux users.
  • Quicker saving times, initial loading times slightly faster too.
  • New force resolution option* (More on this below).
Unfortunately we were not able to make it so icons were updated during play with new inputs, or new icons for different controllers types. Regardless of what controller you use the game will still use Xbox 360 icons. We really tried with this one, but it was not possible and we apologize for it. This new input system was tested with xbox 360 controllers, dualshock 4, Switch pro controller, generic brand gamepad and keyboards. That said even after a lot of testing there might be a couple of bugs that slipped through, let us know if you find anything and will get it fixed for the next patch.

Bug fixes:


  • Fixed a bug where the player couldnt save or load because the save file wasnt created.
  • Fixed a couple of lingering typos.
  • Fixed a bug were the checkered background in some menus would become smaller horizontally when zooming in and closing the menu.
  • Other small bugs pertaining to the new input system.
*How to access the force resolution option: Go to the main menu and then to options, now press F10 to open the force resolution screen. Type both a new resolution and an aspect ratio and press enter. This was done in case the game is not recognizing or changing the correct display resolution, its a bit hacky but we hope it works for some extreme cases. If you find any issues be sure to let us know through our discord server or here in the Steam forums.

Mac and Linux now available! Underhero 4.1.0

Underhero 1.4.0 is here!


What's new:


  • Mac support
  • Linux support
  • Windows 32-bit support
  • Cloud saves!

Bug fixes:


  • Itormon enemy disappearing after being defeated. This meant the player couldn't talk to it and learn important passwords.
  • Hilarious bug where Yanijo had [strike]a coconut bikini[/strike] the wrong sprite between being rescued from the volcano, and giving the reward to the player.
  • Some W5 Masked Kids had inconsistent names through dialogues.
  • Blowie enemy wouldn't turn off sleeping particle system if they were bribed while sleeping
  • Opening and closing the items menu with the B button or the D key wouldn't let the player open the menu again until it was pressed twice.
  • Attention prompts would still appear on the main menu after quitting the game.
  • What's Cloning On wouldn't spawn.
  • And other smaller issues.

What's up with the new controller options:


We are currently still working out the kinks of key binding and controller remapping for the game, but we are close! We've had to rework quite a few things in order to let any type of gamepad and keyboard be compatible with the game. New updates for the Unity engine have thrown a few curve balls our way, we still need to figure out a few things. Hang in there! Here's a sneak peek of the reworked controllers menu (keep in mind that is a work in progress and some things might change!):

Underhero will be available for Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and Xbox One on these dates:


  • Playstation 4 on Feb. 11th for the US and Feb. 12th for EU.
  • Nintendo Switch on Feb. 13th for US and Feb. 14 for EU.
  • Xbox One on Feb. 14th for US & EU.

Underhero 4.0 is here!

Hello again! We've been hard at work porting the Underhero source code to a newer version of the Unity engine as to make console ports possible and improve the game on PC as well. This brought a great deal of new bugs and things that needed to be adapted to the new version, needless to say it took a lot of time, but... We are happy to announce that the update is now live! There are way too many changes and improvements to the overall performance of the game to count, so here's a general idea of the things that we have fixed: - Resolution options are back and (hopefully) working as intended this time. - We have added a V-Sync toggle in the options menu. - Improved collisions and character controls. - The bugged achievements "Almost untouchable" and "Key finding master" have been fixed, now "Employee of the month!" can be completed 100%. - On that note, those who completed these achievements should automatically have them when they load their save file in game. - Stutter issues and occasional framerate drops have been addressed and improved (We are still unsure if this is fixed for some Nvidia users, time will tell.) - Improved camera follow methods. - Final battle music cutting off on right and left headphones. - Improved horizontal and vertical moving platforms. - Infinite stamina recharge animation bug fixed. - You can now return to World 4 after finishing it. - Enemy Masked Kids shield bugs. - Baron van Gregory Boss fight performance. - And many more technical/small bugs. Paper Castle Games has moved to Spain!

Hey there! After working and living for so long in Venezuela (which was incredibly stressful and a daily struggle) we made the tough decision of moving out of our country and we are now in Spain! Our plan right now is to stablish ourselves here and find our stability, while we work on smaller games/projects. We have been set back with the Underhero console ports because of the move and other priorities that needed our attention, but we have resumed work on updating the game and we are now slowly but surely working towards porting the game to consoles. We will make a proper announcement when we are ready. Aside from that, thank you to all of you who have played and enjoyed Underhero so far, we literally wouldn't be where we are right now without you, and we can't wait to start making new games! Art Book Updates 2019

Happy new year everyone!


It's been a while since our last update so we wanted to let you know what we've been up to lately and what are our plans for the future.

- Underhero Art Book:



That's right, we made a book that collects all the concept art and design for Underhero, it has more than 70 pages of sketches, designs, unseen art and more!

We are currently running a give-away for the book on our twitter, head over there for a chance to win a key for the book and the game!

- Underhero Soundtrack:


You may have noticed that the soundtrack is not yet available on Steam, we did all we could to have everything ready for launch but because of complications with the publisher of the Underhero Soundtrack we haven't been able to offer it here on Steam. We are still trying to resolve this issue and we want nothing more than to have it available as soon as possible, but for now the soundtrack is also available on these other sites: Bandcamp iTunes Spotify Google Play Amazon

- Game updates:


We are extremely aware of the current bugs and problems with the game's current build, we haven't stopped working and improving the game ever since it was released. But because we started working on this game on 2013, we have been using an older version of the Unity engine which has caused a lot of compatibility issues. So we decided this past November to upgrade the game to the latest version of Unity 2018. This was not an easy task, porting the game has come with it's fair share of problems, but we believe this will help us improve the game for the better. We are on the testing and debugging phases so we plan to release the new update in the upcoming months, please bear with us while we work on it!

- Console ports:


The other big reason for the Unity 2018 update is that it was necessary if we wanted to port the game to all the current game consoles, unfortunately we have nothing to announce at the moment, but we are definitely working towards this goal! It will be available on Windows PC in English, initially (ports and other languages to be announced) for $14.99! Cant even begin to describe how excited we are to release this thing. *Gasp* A fun water level!?



Hello everyone, happy new year! It has been a while.


We are making good progress with the game lately. Testing and polishing is taking most of our time, we cant commit to a date yet, but we are getting there! Today I wanted to talk about water jets! In our last update, we showed a very sonic-esque animation if you recall. Well that animation is for underwater sections. We thought about how to make a water level "fun", and simply improving your mobility and removing the element of drowning actually makes these sections a lot of fun!
Your trajectory depends on the direction you make contact with the water jets. You can change your trajectory a little bit while rolling too! And pressing jump lets you stop the rolling. The best part about this is that you can chain water jets, increasing your max speed exponentially! Its really satisfying to pull off. And underwater hazards like the ballon fish can be avoided if youre rolling too. Exploring underwater is really fun now! So we made sure to add secret chests and goodies throughout the level ;)

Big update! New things! Journals! And 2018!


Up and down and all around~ Ok! Lets review (in no particular order) the things we have fixed and added to the game recently:

  • You can now exit the game after a checkpoint without fear of losing your progress! But only if you press "Continue" on the main menu. Using "load" will restart you at your last save station. Think of checkpoints as soft saves, and save stations as hard saves from now on.
  • Remember those little hiccups after you saved or passed through a checkpoint? Gone.
  • You can now bribe enemies right from the get go, instead of attacking first.
  • We now have a pretty loading screen!
  • Added skip options for all tutorials.
  • Some conversations with Elizabeth are optional now. If you dont want to hear what she has to say you can just ignore her (you monster).
  • You can use keyboard and controllers at the same time now.
  • We added a traveling merchant for certain places! They will sell useful stuff like magic anvils, potions and other things!
  • Fixed many bugs, like, you wouldnt believe.

And last but not least, we have added a handy journal for your adventure!



You will be able to check your journal and see how your adventure is going:
  • Stopped playing for a few days and forgot what you were doing? Journal!
  • Want to know what the protagonist thinks of the adventure so far? Journal!
  • Forgot about some side quest and want a quick reminder? You guessed it!

And yes, the main character writes! Being quiet doesnt mean you cant talk somehow. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We wanted to talk about more stuff, but I think its better if we discuss it a little more in the upcoming updates. Theres still a lot of work ahead of us, but we are getting closer and closer. So please, be patient! We want you to play this thing as much as you, but the game still requires more testing, work and polish. A 2017 release is no longer possible (even after doing everything we could). We are now aiming for early 2018! See you next time!
