A new version has just been released, featuring a brand new multiplayer game mode: King of the Hill.
You know the drill: hold the sparkly zone until your timer counts down to zero to win!
This comes with a new map, and some significant multiplayer improvements, including being able to see player names in-game. Now you'll know exactly who's coming at you with the Scorcher!
This update also features some fantastic new music tracks in Story Mode.
For full details, check the readme.
Abacus v0.26.0 is here!
Work on Abacus is progressing well, and the new version adds some meaty features. Without further ado, let's take a look!
Steam Lobbies
Now you can jump into a game with your Steam friends with ease - no IP address or port forwarding required.
Multiple Save Slots
You can now create as many save games as you like, and view a summary of your progress on the save select screen.
Revamped Scorcher
The Scorcher has been heavily revamped - now you can expect more flames, and less lag! What's more, the flames now set players on fire, allowing for hit and run attacks. Flames cannot be blocked by the Shield, making the Scorcher a good counter for blocking players.
... and much more!
This release also adds a number of bugfixes and quality of life improvements. See the readme for more details.
Parallax Layers - the mountains, trees and celestial bodies that can be seen in the distance - can now be customised to a much greater degree in the editor.
Any number of parallax layers can be added, and various properties can be configured, including their distance, offset and scroll speed. In addition, all of the existing story mode and multiplayer levels have been revisited to fine-tune their parallax layers, resulting in a much more visually pleasing experience.
For more details, see the readme.
14 Achievements have been added, ranging from easy to... well, good luck! Several bugs have also been fixed in this release. As always, see the readme for full details, and please let me know if you encounter any problems.
The plan for Abacus in Early Access has always been to interact with the community and respond to suggestions and feedback. To date, I have only received one suggestion: gamepad support. Today, I am pleased to announce that this feature is now generally available!
Any gamepad should work, and the controls can be customised from the Settings menu on a per-device basis.
See the readme for more details.
Lobby Revamp
- Level preview
- Joining players can see game parameters
- Player names shown in colour
- Messages when players join or leave
- Pre-game countdown
- Players automatically rejoin the lobby after a game
New Deathmatch Levels
- 7 new maps including 4 fan-made maps!
- Rainbow Bombs can no longer kill instantly and look nicer (!)
- Rainbow trails have been shortened, to make them less intrusive
- Bees home in on nearby enemies
- Scorcher damage reduced, and delay between firing modes reduced
Health pickups have been added to all Deathmatch levels, and they are a game changer!
Players can now customise their colour through the Settings menu, and their Fire Walls will change colour to match!
Some other minor improvements and fixes have been made - see the readme for the full list of changes.
A few minor bugs fixed, and some rendering performance improvements; see the readme for full details. Once again, thank you for all your support!
