In here, choose the "Betas" option You should be able to choose a "beta - Secret Government open beta" beta from the drop-down menu above. In your Steam library the Secret Government should now have [beta] tag behind it, which means that you are playing the beta branch. If you run into any kind of bugs or issues, please report it using the CTRL+F11 bug reporting function or head over to our Steam Forums and let us know there. Hello! In our latest article, we talked about game events. Today well focus on the details of these mechanics. After the event occurs, the player will have to make a choice that greatly affects anything that will follow. There is a setback time for the events. When the conditions are the same to trigger the event, it can be shown to the player again. Some of the events are unique and will be shown to the player only once. Sometimes youll need more resources to choose one of the event options. On the contrary, you can get extra resources in some cases. Quite often, one of the options to choose in an event will trigger the next step of that event. This way a small chain of events will be connected by a short storyline. These chains of events are designed to make gameplay more diverse. Also, there will be side quests in these events that correspond to the event storyline. The tasks available in the tutorial events allow you to learn and put into practice all the knowledge gained during the tutorial. This type of event is still under development. We hope to make the game world more vivid and realistic with the help of game events. Its an additional opportunity to influence what is happening in the world. The historical events that we also created will make the game world seem more realistic, too. These are the real events that occurred in the particular time period. The player will be able to make his choice in a certain historical event. Additionally, we will try to introduce historical characters. Greetings! In our latest article, we talked about the upcoming update of the lodge. We also mentioned the development of the lodge and today we want to give more details about this. As we told you earlier, youll be able to level up the lodge due to gaining experience. Getting to the next level brings a certain number of upgrade points. You can unlock different upgrades to the lodge using these points. They are available as a tree of technologies that will get unlocked as the lodge gets levelled up and the available upgrades are applied. The upgrades are likely to be divided into several areas: Brotherhood, Resources, Lodge. Each upgrade will earn bonuses or expand the mechanics already available in the game. Probably, the players will be able to level up the upgrades, making them more effective. We are still working on this matter. Using these new mechanics, we want to strengthen the importance of the lodge and create motivation for players to level it up. Also, it opens a whole new world of interesting decisions for the player. Its you who will decide what upgrades you should get first and adjust the lodge to your gameplay style. The lodge has been a part of the game for a long time, and some game mechanics, such as resource extraction, are strongly associated with it. Still, weve always wanted to increase the role of the lodge in the gameplay and make it more important. Now itll be necessary to create a Brotherhood lodge before you start your activities in the country. Without a lodge, its impossible to recruit members of the government and neophytes. Also, a number of master's errands will be unavailable. This way a lodge becomes the base of the Brotherhood. As soon youve established it, youll start your expansion into the country. There will be a head of the lodge. This is a new type of character that has his unique errands. The lodge doesnt function without its head. The confrontation with the Dark Brotherhood will also be associated with the head of the lodge. Its him who becomes the priority target in this confrontation. As you know, there is a quite complex economic model used in Secret Government. Today wed like to address an aspect of logistics. Probably, you havent focused on the logistic costs parameter, but it is essential when setting the price if you buy or sell goods outside the region. You can see this parameter when you hover the cursor over the trade route.
Logistic costs heavily depend on the geography of the region and its transport accessibility. If its a large mountainous area, the transportation costs will be high in this region. There is a logistic coefficient for all regions in the game. Bear this in mind when considering directions for trading if you want to reduce the final price of the goods.
You can also influence the logistic costs directly. To do this, use an errand for the Minister of Industry in the government of the country you need. The "Develop road infrastructure errand will reduce transportation costs.
You might use this tool if you want to influence the economies of countries at a deeper level.

There are ideologies in any country. They have a large influence on the image of these countries. Ideologies set the selection of estates and the form of government in the country. Ideologies bring along values that determine the satisfaction of estates.
The key point in the spread of ideologies is ideological pressure. It shows how quickly ideology will spread among the population. Our brothers, estates, political forces create pressure, as well as trade relations also help to spread pressure. We have added bonuses that will help you speed up spreading ideology and increasing ideological pressure. If you want these bonuses to work, certain conditions must be met. You can see the effects of bonuses and their conditions in the tooltip for each ideology.
We have also added ideological resistance so that there will be a counterbalance to the possibility of enhancing ideologies and diversifying the mechanisms of influence on the estates. Ideological resistance of estates shows how much a particular estate can resist ideological pressure. All people are different. Someone is more susceptible to new ideas, and someone is less. In combination, it allows you to make the spread of ideologies more interesting. You need not only to create conditions for the spread of the ideology you want but also to influence the estates. So far, weve introduced another secret society that is AI-controlled. Its called the Dark Brotherhood. Just like the Brotherhood under your control, the Dark Brotherhood pursues its goals and tries to rebuild the picture of the world. You might have already encountered the Dark Brotherhood when you saw red-hooded adepts in the government of the countries. In this case, there may be several options for the story. If the Dark Brotherhood considers the country important for reaching its goals, you should be prepared for a very tough confrontation. On the other hand, they may decide that theyre not ready for a conflict and will leave the country of your presence. After all, they are not willing to destroy your Brotherhood, but to achieve their goals as soon as possible and change the picture of the world in accordance with these goals. There is also an option to avoid conflict or try to act unnoticed. The secrecy of your brothers plays an important role here. As you know, secrecy is spent on running errands. But it also serves as your protection against exposure. If you are in a safe secrecy range, enemy agents cant blow your cover. The safe range of secrecy is colored green. Some time ago we developed a major update of the tutorial mode. Such a comprehensive and complex game as Secret Government can be quite difficult for a player in terms of the game mechanics, although lots of players enjoy the process of getting to know the game. However, weve walked the extra mile to make the tutorial mode easy and accessible. After we developed the new update, we decided to test it not only within our team but also to attract a small group of players for a beta test. When we did the test, we realized what kind of problems the players face during the tutorial. First of all, it turned out to be too long, so that the players could get too far away from the actual game. Creating and developing your secret society in the game is much more fun than going through long-term tutorials. Taking into account this important detail, we decided to finalize the tutorial. The team is currently working on the next update. First of all, we revised the duration of the tutorial mode for some chapters and made it shorter. The player now has the opportunity to start a tutorial at any time during the game. It allows you to study particular game mechanics almost without breaking away from the gameplay. We hope that these updates will help new players get into the game better, as well as allow more experienced players to refresh their memory on certain game mechanics. Introduction The upcoming game update will greatly change many of the core mechanics. We decided to describe some of the changes in this short article so that our current players wont feel completely lost when we launch the update. Brotherhood Ideology Now the Brotherhood and all its supporters follow the ideology that the player chooses at the start of the game. This ideology determines how the Brothers want to see the world, their goals and methods to achieve them. The more this ideology is shared around the world, the easier it is for the Brotherhood to find supporters and gain resources for the operational activities. Brotherhood Resources The resource system is getting really simple. Now it consists of only two types: the global resource of the Brotherhood and the local influence in a particular country. The local influence is required for neophytes and adepts to run errands within the country, change its laws, oppress certain population groups, and so on. They can also gain this influence for the Brotherhood, but only in the country in which they are located. You cant transfer a local resource from one country to another, you will have to gain influence in new lands from scratch. The global resource is required for Masters to run errands of the Brotherhood per se. For example, it is spent on attracting new supporters. You can get this resource by using Lodges in case the ideas of the Brotherhood are widespread enough in the country. Brotherhood Greatness Whether its a member of the Brotherhood or just a civil servant, everyone has a personal influence parameter. For civil servants, personal influence strongly depends on the power and level of the country as well as the position held by the servant. For the Masters of the Brotherhood, it depends on their experience and the general greatness of the Brotherhood. If the level of the Master's personal influence is far below the level of the influence of a minister of trade, itll be difficult even to get an appointment with this minister, let alone convince him of the ideas of the Brotherhood. The more influential countries find themselves in the webs of intrigue woven by the Brotherhood, the greater the personal influence bonus each of its members will receive. Spreading Ideas Spreading the ideology of the Brotherhood will now become a much more interesting and complex task. The loss of all six masters means the end of the Brotherhood. Changing Traits Almost all of the traits have been redesigned and rebalanced to have higher importance and coherence with the gameplay. There are a lot of new traits that make a character build more meaningful when leveling up a brother. Masters Specialty Masters will have their specialty. From now on, only the Worshipful Master will be able to create new Lodges. Tyler will make assassination attempts and interrogate prisoners. Ideology and its influence Ideology is the idea that people have about how society and the world around them function. If you change the ideological pattern in peoples heads, they themselves will change the world according to the new pattern. The dominant ideology in the region determines which estates are desirable and which are unacceptable; what powers and rights certain segments of society have. The ideology shared by a political force determines what forms of government will be available if this force takes power. The form of government, in turn, determines the legal restrictions that can be established on the territory of the country. The populations demand for the particular ruling political force also depends on the adopted ideology. In addition to the basic needs of livelihood, people want specific needs to be met as well. Nationalists want people of the same nationality to live next to them, Liberalists want strict compliance with the laws by all segments of society, Egalitarians want universal equality in rights. The support for the ruling political force by the population depends on whether these needs are met or not. As a result, the entire image of society in a certain territory is determined by the ideology in the minds of representatives of this very society. Brotherhood Support Ideas are the Brotherhood's main weapon for transforming the world. After choosing a particular ideology as an example of a perfect world to live in, the Brotherhood shares it with every neophyte. The members of the Brotherhood consider it their duty to spread bright ideas wherever possible. Each Brother creates ideological pressure in his country, which slowly puts the necessary ideas in the minds of ordinary people. The chosen ideology sets a certain range of criteria. They determine how close the society is to the condition that the Brotherhood wants. The closer the society is to the desired condition, the easier it is for the Brotherhood to find support among the population and gain resources to achieve their goals. To get a reliable Brotherhood outpost in any country, its necessary to recruit at least 30% of government employees into the Brotherhood and complete at least a part of the ideological criteria. Youll also need to establish a lodge with the help of which the Brotherhood will collect resources for its further expansion. The Spread of Ideology Ideology spreads due to ideological pressure created in a number of ways. The stronger the pressure, the more people will share this ideology. The sources of the ideological pressure can be: Members of the Brotherhood: neophytes, adepts, and masters. Please note that the strength of the pressure created by an adept depends on the importance of the post he holds in the government, and the strength of a master depends on his level. Political forces that regularly canvass the population. Surely, the public force has more opportunities for agitation than the secret one. Some estates themselves spread the ideology that they share. A clear example is the Intellectuals. By trading with a neighboring region, the population can pick up new trends or make sure that the neighbors share the same views. People, however, are not ready to accept any ideology so easily. For example, the Aristocrats are much more impressed by the ideas of Feudalism than Socialism, otherwise, they lose their privileged status. So different estates prefer some ideologies and reject others, which affects the way the ideological pressure can be effective.

As you are probably aware, Secret Government left Early Access on April 15th. Many of you supported our studio by purchasing the game and offering constructive criticism, for which we are grateful.
However, the games journey is only just beginning.
Secret Government is an extremely ambitious project. If youve played the game even for 30mins, you know that every action can have thousands of ramifications the complexity of the mechanics is massive.
When a game has this level of complexity, its practically impossible to look through all possible cases and iron out all of the details through internal testing. Even with hundreds of thousands of game hours, we still wouldnt be able to straighten out every kink and catch every bug. We tried to overcome this hurdle through the Early Access program, and it helped greatly. Thanks to your feedback, we made a huge amount of fixes and tweaks. But despite our very best efforts, despite the extensive testing, there were things we missed - things we could never catch, due to the sheer scope of the game.
And thats at the core of the games main criticism.
Our goal here is to be as transparent as possible, and explain to you what we intend to do to solve these issues.
Going forward, well be addressing all of the new bug reports that are coming in. If you encounter an issue, please follow the instructions in this post.
Right now we are gathering all feedback and issues you have met, and preparing a patch that were planning to release in a few days. We hope that with this update, your satisfaction with the game will increase. Once the issues with game stability have been addressed, and it will be easier to understand and enjoy, well continue to expand it, making the tutorial more comprehensive, adding new campaigns, and drilling even deeper into the mechanics to give you unparalleled control of your brotherhood and every aspect of the world in which it operates. This has always been our goal.

Important News about Linux Version
Despite our best efforts, the Linux version is still not a level where we consider it ready for final release. If youre on the Linux version and wish to continue playing post-launch, a new branch called "Early access" will become available for you. You will need to change the branch in your Steam account (see screenshots below). This will allow you to continue on the same Early Access build that you are using right now.
Once the full game build is ready, you will be able to switch back to the default branch and play the game. The full Linux Build is expected to be ready for publishing at the end of April. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

If youve been following our public roadmap, you know that we were due to launch our next major content update today, December 15th.
Regretfully, were going to have to push the release back by a few days. Heres why:
As with every release, our goal is to give you a better version of the game by fixing bugs and improving gameplay mechanics based on your feedback. That said, the world of coding is as treacherous as that of any secret society. Sometimes, solutions that appear simple, turn out to be convoluted and bear unforeseen challenges.
And thats exactly what happened with this release.
You already know were a tiny team. But to us, thats no excuse for putting out a sub-par release, even if were still in Early Access. Thats why weve decided to hold back on the release and put a little more work into it, so that it meets our (and more importantly, your) expectations.
On a final note, the official release date of the game has been updated to April 8th, 2021.

We are back after another week, which we spent trying to understand the strange dreams that haunt our minds and decipher the true meaning of the Nostradamus prophecies. Some of these signs are still veiled in the fog of uncertainty, but those that we managed to decode have been forged into yet another update for Secret Government, this time bearing the number 0.9.18.86.

The day of the update is upon us! With this update, brand new campaign called "The New World" has been introduced now you can sail the Atlantic ocean in search of greener pastures and more governments to corrupt! Furthermore, following the communitys valuable feedback, the developers have made numerous other changes and improvements to the game such as the Government system, tooltips and actions in battles.
Additionally after numerous nights spent meditating and studying the signs in the night sky and listening to we have decided, to prolong the Early Access period until March 15th, 2021 which will give us more time to polish the game and add more features to it, so that both you and us are happy with the final product. The longer Early Access period also means, that there will be two more content updates for you all to enjoy!
Also, we would like to mention that due to the many changes that the new build includes, you may find a few issues here and there. We did our best to have the build as ready as possible on time and with as few issues as possible, but some things still need more polishing, so we ask for your understanding. And as usual we would appreciate your valuable help by reporting the issues you find in the game through our Steam Discussion forum

We come once again with some news! The second content update that was postponed last week and was planned to be released today will be again postponed, this time to Thursday September 3rd! It turns out that this is a much bigger update than what we initially thought, so our team needs a bit more time to prepare and test the content properly so we deliver you a smooth and fully functioning build unfortunately COVID-19 seems to be affecting everyone, including the Brotherhood!
We have also decided to change the content of the second update and also merge the third content update with the full release, so we will have enough time to implement and test all the features properly.

Today I come before you as a bearer of bad news - It seems that we have misinterpreted the signs given to us and thus miscalculated the date of the next turning point in history. After some new calculations and measurements we have come to conclusion that the next Content Update will be released on 13th of August, 2020 AD.
We hope that you understand and can excuse this short delay, but we would much rather present you with fully functioning update, without any significant technical issues, than to be on time, but with a game that is riddled with bugs. Rest assured that the person responsible for this false prophecy has been severely punished.
As the wheel of history keeps turning, it is once again time for us to reveal another part of our plan. Since the world around us is such a dark and confusing place, we decided that someone has to do something about it and bring some order into this ever-changing world.

we are super excited to finally share with you a release date of the Early Access version of the game!
June 22nd is the day when Secret Government officially launches in Early Access giving you the opportunity to jump in and lead your very own centuries old institution, pulling the strings from the shadows, influencing world changing events and making history your own!
What to expect in the Early Access you ask?
The Early Access includes the historical mode, consisting of a tutorial and one full story mission, affecting the events of the English Revolution. A simplified version of the free play mode is also available, where the player can set the objectives of their own. The Early Access version includes all the main game mechanics and tools to influence them, such as wars, trade and production, relations between countries, revolutions, elections, class values, migration, and counteracting another Brotherhood. This will give you an idea of what we are trying to create before the full release. We also have a detailed roadmap to give you the idea of what to expect going forward. We have our own vision of the game but the point of Early Access is to share it with you and gather as much feedback from you as possible to create the best possible experience we can. We want to hear from you so please feel free to write us either here on Steam or our social media.
Lastly, we will have a demo live during the whole Steam Game Festival, so it's ideal opportunity for you to check out the game and see if it is interesting to you.

While development has been shaping up quite well so far, we feel that the game hasnt yet reached a level that will deliver a satisfying player experience. Our goal with Early Access was not only to involve you in development, but also provide a game that is fun right from the get go. herefore weve made the decision to extend our launch date to 2020.
We know this news is disappointing, but by delaying the release we can focus on bringing you the best experience possible. In the meantime, we will make sure to keep you updated on the progress of Secret Government.

we got some amazing news for you'll! Secret Government is coming out of the shadows and onto early access this October! But wait there is more. We signed a deal with publisher 1C Entertainment that will allow us to make the game even bigger and better than previously anticipated while being able to market it to more people! We have updated the beta version of the game. During last iteration, the main task was to demonstrate the future game model, based on already existing mechanics. Friends, we have published a new beta version of the Secret Government game. We set a goal to make the game more interesting without adding new mechanics and it seems we did it. Here is what has changed in the new version: 1. A "web of influence" appeared on the map. It shows how much you control the countries and how your secret government is distributed on the map. 2. Information icons appeared on the main map and in the filters. They are displayed when any parameters change in the game, either by themselves or thanks to you. Implemented for changing relations between countries and awareness of the activities of fraternity. 3. The game has pop-up notifications that inform about the completion of some part of the quest, the appearance of new quests on the map. 4. Improved usability of the action selection interface. A desire for power and wealth is not the only thing that drives the Brotherhood. It strives for a complete rebuilding of the world.
Beginning in the 17th century, you start making your own history, where in each mission of the game you will interfere in the main conflict of a certain period.
In the Early Access version, you will take part in the Glorious Revolution in England. There you will face a hostile secret organization. Its methods are similar to yours, but the goals are completely different, and you have to figure them out.
You need to act slowly and carefully not to raise the awareness of your clout in the country. You will otherwise be exposed and lose the level of influence already gained in this very country.
There will be plenty of diplomatic, economic and military actions at your disposal. Pay close attention to the domestic politics of each country. If the ruling party’s ideology is very different from the views of various classes and estates, if tax levels are too high and public order too low, then expect a revolution. You cannot impose your will on the rulers - your manipulations in the game are indirect.
