We're really pleased to share that the next game from Iteration Games, An Elaborate History of Chess, now has a a playable demo on Steam as part of this month's Next Fest!

The demo gives you the opportunity to explore the real-time strategy overworld, farming turnips, fighting rats, building castles, and promoting your pieces. Progress far enough in the overworld, and you'll have the chance to experience one of the turn-based dungeons, featuring combat, puzzles, loot, and intrigue.
As an added bonus, there is a special bounty available in Paper Pirates until 31st March 2025. If you have the An Elaborate History of Chess demo added to your Steam library and installed, this bounty will complete and unlock a special crossover outfit for you to use. We don't want to spoil it, but we think it's pretty fun!
If you play the demo, it would really help if you could consider leaving us a review on the demo's store page. Reviews really help with visibility, and will hopefully allow more people to discover both An Elaborate History of Chess and Paper Pirates. Paper Pirates is a social deduction game for 1 to 10 players, so bring along your best crew, see who you can trust, and who’ll be going overboard! Sailing on Stream?
Crew all stranded ashore? We recommend playing Paper Pirates on your favourite streaming service to play with remote players! Don’t worry if you’re not in the same room; you can use the built-in chat feature. And with audience mode, if you’re streaming for the masses, everyone can jump in and affect how the game plays out!Who can you trust?!
Every round, the captain will give out orders for their crew. Everyone doing their job gets us closer to shore, but watch out for when something goes wrong; a ghost must be about! And if things are going too well, then what’s to stop the captain being a ghost?Get Off My Ship!

When someone goes overboard you could be up for a promotion. The higher your rank, the more likely you are to get haunted and become a target.
