I originally created Oneons as part of a game jam, polished it up, added a second area, and released it on Steam. I learned a lot about Steam (and what players really want) by doing this. My main goal was to get actual player feedback by doing this, and in hindsight, charging for the game impeded that. One of the things Steam does well, is drive ongoing, "long-tail" traffic to your game. In the year since release, I still get people checking out and wishlisting the game. Since I genuinely just want to build a fun game that players enjoy, and really want to see that in the comments and reviews, going forward, Oneons will become a free game. To celebrate, I plan to release a new version with various changes that you, the players, asked for:
- A new biome/area with new monsters, that use brand-new mechanics (unlike the previous monsters)
- A new skill that you can use - heal - because that will impact the difficulty
- Re-add persistence: collecting Oneons powers you up
