Hey all, I forgot to update the wasteland monsters' art style when I uploaded the v1.7.0 patch yesterday. That's now been fixed.

Hey all,
After looking at the Oneons game, I realized I was extremely unhappy with the quality of the graphics. It's hard to believe how much my pixel-art skills have changed in two years.
So, I set out to revamp the game entirely. I updated almost all the graphics: monsters, tiles, items, and the UI. As part of this, I decided to revamp the game and make dungeons more than twice as big. Oneons is supposed to be a difficult, brutally hard and strategic game; and while the addition of heal in 1.6.0 made the game significantly easier, the game is now back to being quite difficult, as intended.
I hope you will all enjoy the updates as much as I enjoyed working on it! If you have any feedback, please drop me a comment here or on Discord.
Thanks for playing!

Thanks to all our new and returning players for providing feedback on Oneons v1.6.1! One player pointed out a small bug fix that just I couldn't resist fixing: monster health bars! Starting in v1.6.1, monster health bars now decrease according to their remaining health. (The numerical display of their health was always correct.) As usual, if you find the game or developer intriguing or just want to chat with us, hit us up on Discord! (Link is on the game page.)

I am honestly very thankful and humble for the support around Oneons. In one year of launching my first ever commercial game on Steam, I really learned a lot. As the game now reached one year, after much deliberation, I decided to make the game free forever. If you're interested in the game but haven't tried it yet, why not give it a try? I would love to hear your feedback, good or bad! Most of all, if you play the game, please leave a review! It really helps a lot with current, and future games. Feel free to hit me up on Discord if you want to discuss the game!

A few players mentioned that they found Oneons very challenging and difficult, to the point of being unbeatable (despite being a relatively short game). I decided to make a couple of simple changes to reduce the difficulty of the game significantly:
- Any Oneons you rescue increase your health, energy, and damage. This change is now permanent across all games, instead of resetting to zero when you die.
- Added a heal skill with a moderate energy cost and healing amount. You can use it any time, like Psi Blast.

I originally created Oneons as part of a game jam, polished it up, added a second area, and released it on Steam. I learned a lot about Steam (and what players really want) by doing this. My main goal was to get actual player feedback by doing this, and in hindsight, charging for the game impeded that. One of the things Steam does well, is drive ongoing, "long-tail" traffic to your game. In the year since release, I still get people checking out and wishlisting the game. Since I genuinely just want to build a fun game that players enjoy, and really want to see that in the comments and reviews, going forward, Oneons will become a free game. To celebrate, I plan to release a new version with various changes that you, the players, asked for:
- A new biome/area with new monsters, that use brand-new mechanics (unlike the previous monsters)
- A new skill that you can use - heal - because that will impact the difficulty
- Re-add persistence: collecting Oneons powers you up

Hello! Just a quick update to v1.5.1 version of Oneons. This includes a single tiny bug-fix: attack animations! Prior to this fix, when you attack, you only see the first frame of animation. Now, you see the full thing. Enjoy!

Today, we launched Oneons v1.5.0. This rather small update includes three small quality-of-life changes:

Oneons v1.4.0 is Now Available to All Players
I am extremely excited to announce that you can buy and play Oneons right now. After five months of development (three of which were implementing player-requested changes), the game is now released. (Prior releases were only available to Steam Curators.) This public release also coincides with our v1.4.0 release. As far as 1-3 week releases go, it's a smaller one. The game is polished, complete, (hopefully) bug free, and hopefully many of you will play it and give us your feedback so we can improve it.
What's new in v1.4.0
This release primarily includes more polish (quality-of-life changes) and bug-fixes. The list includes:
- You can now toggle jumbo images, which is an accessibility feature we restored for low-vision players.
- The sidebar now presents your stats (including poison) separate from monster stats and recent events.
- Critical warnings are now centered and outlined in black so they're a bit easier to read.
- Added a button on the title screen to exit the game
- Hitting any key on the title screen no longer launches the game (easy to do by mistake)
- Added outlines to the Blastinel sprite so you can see it on dark backgrounds
- Fixed a bug where the UI didn't tell you about Cactobite damage when you move
- Fixed a bug where Cactobites deal double damage when you attack them
- Fixed a bug where the tutorial arrow on the first dungeon didn't appear properly

First of all, I apologize for not meeting our intended two-week goal with this release. Life happens, and unfortunately development on Oneons is slowing down. I cannot guarantee either that two-week releases will continue, and I'm not sure if all the planned future content will make it into the game. If you're interested in following development, you can find me on Twitter (@nightblade99). That said, the v1.3.0 update is now live!
What's New
v1.3.0 includes two major changes, the first being a complete Wasteland biome. The area now includes a new monster (Cactobite) with a new ability; new sprites, new audio, and a new BGM. It poses quite the additional difficulty over the previous (Dungeon) biome. Second, due to an oversight in testing, the Linux version of Oneons crashed on startup. (This is because we stored BGM files in a .7z archive, which doesn't have a good cross-platform library for extraction.) We switched over to using MP3s for audio, and now it works well on Linux too.
Quality-of-Life Changes
On top of completing the Wasteland biome, this release includes quite a number of smaller fixes and changes. These include:
- Energy is more abundant in all floors. This helps fix situations where the player might die from low energy because there simply wasn't enough energy to survive.
- An oft-requested feature from players: you can now see the damage you would inflict on enemies, in the sidebar under your health/energy bars.
- Psi-blasting Toxinewts no longer poisons you. (This fixes a major imbalance in the Wasteland and makes it more predictably beatable.)
- The player health bar changes green when you're poisoned.
- All items are now bordered in black for easier visibility (player request).
- You can now exit-game to the title from the options screen / at any point in-game (player request).
- Fix some UI bugs (specifically around psi-blast) where text would draw on top of a health bar
- Fix bugs where audio volume is either ignored or changes the game volume in Windows Mixer
- Going to options and back to game no longer removes the background
- Fixed some bugs where button text would appear far from the button image
- "You will die" note now appears correctly if you have low health and are poisoned

Dear Oneons community, We're excited to ship a new v1.2.0 version of the game today! This this the second every-other-week release that delivers changes players requested and based on player feedback.
Now Playing: Oneons v1.2.0
This new update includes some significant changes. Mainly: there is no New Game+ any longer! Instead, on 7B, the dungeon changes over into the Wasteland biome. This biome contains what was previously the New Game+ content (new monsters/tileset); in the next release, it should be a complete distinct biome. Furthermore, all persistent boosts have been removed from the game. While you can still rescue Oneons to power up, that only lasts until you die (or win). Major changes:
- Wasteland biome starts on 7B, contains what was previously New Game+ content
- Dungeon floors are much more consistent; you will find fewer monsters, but much fewer, consistent items. Overall, the game is quite a bit harder.
- The much-requested title screen is now a new, separate screen from the game. Winning/losing takes you back there instead of starting a new game.
- Your HP and energy now appears with health/energy bars, as well health for the monster you're looking at.
- The Wasteland biome only has two monsters for now and only requires one key per floor
- Bombs hit all enemies, whether you can see them or not
- The game screen is slightly smaller, but biomes have distinct backgrounds
- Nerfed rescued Oneons so they don't power up bomb damage quite so much
- A warning appears on-screen when your energy is 20 or less
- Death messages tell you which floor you died on
- Fixed a bug where you never see the message indicating how much damage you took last turn
- Fixed a bug where rapidly clicking on New Game made the game weird
- Fixed a bug where the current square cursor appeared in the wrong place if you mash the keyboard
- Fixed a bug where playing too fast on the keyboard locked up the story
- Fixed a bug where there's no audio SFX when attacking while in a combo
What's Next: Oneons v1.3.0
As we mentioned last week, you can expect releases roughly every two weeks. v1.3.0 is planned for the second week of August. Oneons v1.2.0 included lots of internal changes and restructuring; the net effect is that biomes, new monsters, and new monster powers are much easier to create. For the next release, I intend to wrap up the Wasteland biome, and start on the next one (Space-Time Continuum?). You can see a proof-of-concept art piece here:

Dear friends and curators, I released Oneons on Steam with the plan that I would ship it and move on to my next game. But, overwhelmingly, the feedback I got back is that the game ... could be better. Could be great. But, it needs more work! With that in mind, my plan for the next several of weeks is pretty simple but comprehensive: ship Oneons version 2.0, primarily driven by player feedback and suggestions.
Oneons v2.0
What will 2.0 include? First and foremost, doubling the amount of content. Not just increasing the number of floors, but adding more (interesting and varied) challenges. While I'm still working on a concrete plan and specifics, this includes:
- Several new enemy types, with new abilities
- New skills that you can learn and use
- An expanded story
- Different, themed dungeons
- Bosses
- New gameplay mechanics, given the same layout
Now Playing: Oneons v1.0.1
This new update that shipped a few minutes ago includes the first few improvements that players suggested:
- A consecutive-kill combo counter! You get a satisfying count up when you kill two or more monsters in succession.
- Right-clicking an enemy now uses the psi-blast skill automatically
- Pressing ESC no longer kills the game. This caused lots of frustration!
- A new BGM audio track.
- Enemies that poison you are now indicated in the status window when you mouse-over them.
Let's Talk
I would like you thank you all again for playing Oneons and giving me detailed feedback. My ask to you is simple: if you're interested in seeing the game evolve, try out the new versions, and post your feedback. I'll read it all, agree with much of it, and implement whatever makes sense to me. Also, feel free to connect with me. I'm on Discord frequently, I'm on Twitter (@nightblade99). I would love to hear from you.

Coming Soon: August 2020
First, and most importantly, Oneons: Starship Prisoners, our premiere broughlike (roguelite) dungeon crawler, will be available in August 2020 (barring any unforseen delays). The game is functionally complete, tested, and polished, so I don't anticipate any issues. Major changes from the last month include:
- New post-game content (New Game+) with new monsters, each with powerful new abilities
- Lots of polish: new animations, new art, new effects, a revamped story, and an updated audio design
- Quality-of-life change to reduce accidental deaths in the form of hints and warnings
- Steam Cloud Save support
- Eight new Steam achievements
