Were extremely excited to announce that We should talk will release on Steam, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on Thursday, July 16th 2020, with the Playstation 4 release to be announced shortly after! Our team came together with the goal of creating a game that challenges traditional transactional romance in games, and collaborated to push relationship-building games forward by expanding the realm of player choice.
How does it feel to explore a relationship playground? In We should talk, players are encouraged to think carefully about the words they choose as they interact with various people in a bar, while also texting their partner at home. Using the sentence spinner mechanic developed for this game, players craft sentences in response to the in-game characters, allowing them to explore the nuances of conversation with interactions of various intimacy levels. In a live-streamed event on Twitch and Steam, Jordan Jones-Brewster and Carol Mertz will describe the development process of this unique narrative mechanic, and how it allows for a different way to engage with meaningful choices. Afterwards, the development team will respond to questions in chat about the design and development of We should talk.

We should talk will release this Summer 2020, and were excited to be already working through the certification process on consoles. The game was accepted to show at a number of global events this spring and summer (including at GDC with the Indie Megabooth), which have since been cancelled. This Kickstarter is essential for us to raise funds for marketing efforts and post-launch promotion so more people can discover We should talk.

We should talk explores the nuance of words and conversation. How does what we say, and how we say it, change how people respond to us? How does our relationship with another person affect how we express ourselves to them? Using a unique dialogue choice mechanic, players assemble sentences from modular fragments to craft responses. Through texts with their partner and in person conversations with fellow patrons at a local bar, our protagonist will determine whether their romantic relationship survives the night.
