My Games are going to be free |
Hi everyone,
because of some private changes I have to make a pause with solo developing and that's why I am deciding to give my games away for free. So with July 1st, all my games are free on Steam.
I am not sure if and how frequently I can still work on Dayscream, but let's see what the future holds.
Best wishes,
Bernhard

Short development update |
Dear followers,
I know it has been very quiet lately. April was a very stressful month and I had little to no time to work on Dayscream. Sorry for that!
But I am still working on the game and will start working more frequently on it again in May.
Chapter 3 is coming together very well and there are also some bug fixes in the working.
I hope to release at least some parts of it in the end of May or June.
So, please apologies my absence, the next and final Chapter is still in the works!
I also hope to fix most of the critical bugs as well a push them as a fix even before the next Chapter 3.
Stay tuned for more updates in the next weeks and more important, stay healthy.
Best wishes,
Bernhard

Dear followers,
this update is not as big as a new chapter, but it is nearly as important.
It features a whole new reworked character controller which should be more robust against glitching and other problems. It also behaves different than the old one. Of course, it is possible that the new controller introduces new bugs, but I still hope that the new ones are not as significant as the glitches and other game breaking bugs.
Also, I changed a little bit the shaders in the intro sequence and hope that this maybe fixes a problem with Linux where the screen is only black.
There are also additional bug fixes with the enemies and raycasting problems in the new chapter.
I hope the new character controller fixes the annoying glitches and other problems which occurred with the old one.
I continue to fix ongoing bugs and will also start to work on the next and final chapter the next days.
Best wishes,
Bernhard

Update 0.1.4 |
Dear followers,
I pushed a new update with improvements to the UI and the AI.
The Main Menu has now better looking buttons and looks overall better in my opinion. There is also now a sound played if a button is clicked.
The AI has been refined an shuld work now a litle bit smarter with better pathfinding and performance.
Let me know if there are new errors with the enemies!
The next update will be the next chapter if there is no need for hotfixes. I will cover the next chapter in my next dev diary so stay tuned for it.
Best wishes,
Bernhard

Dear followers,
sorry for beeing so quite in the last few weeks. It was and still is a very busy time. But nevertheless I am working on Chapter 2 and many improvements to the enemy AI and the UI of the game. And it is Steam Autumn Sale so tell your friends and family to get the game 20% off until Dec. 1st. And if you have not bought it already now is your best chance to do so!
In the next update it will feature many UI improvements to the main menu, and the player UI. New buttons, sliders and other graphics will be added. I hope this will deliver a better experience as well as a more suitable UI for the game.
Regarding the AI I am working to improve the NavMesh pathfinding as well as the behaviour of the enemies. They are sometimes still running around if there is no reachable way to the player itself. So I will prevent them from it. The AI should also be more performant and find the ways better and faster with an overall quality improvement for the pathfinding and interaction with the environment.
So this is a sum up on what I am working at the moment. The next chapter is getting better and better and the release is getting closer and closer. Of course there are still some things to be optimized, improved and added. But slowly everything is coming together.
Best wishes and stay healthy,
Bernhard

Planned Price Reduction |
Dear followers,
many people have played and tested Dayscream in the last weeks. I gained much feedback and beside number one complaint bugs one of the most mentioned complaints was the current price compared to the currently available content.
So that's why I am planning to drop the price from 6.99$ to 4.99$ and maybe raise it after Early Access to 5.99$ or leave it then at 4.99$.
For all of you who has now purchased it at the higher price, feel free if you fall within the refund window policies of Steam to refund your game and purchase it at the lower price. If not I am sorry and I apologize for the inconvenience.
If you like you can write to support@bernhardp.com and maybe we can fiugre something out :)
The price will change in the next 24 hours.
Best wishes and stay healthy,
Bernhard

Update 0.1.3 |
Dear followers,
this is a smaller update than the previous ones but an important. It adresses the suggestions to add a short information to the beginning of the game how the player can access the weapons. This is now implemented with a short text after the intro.
Ther are still many bugs which lead to falling through the world. I made some fixes and tweaks to prevent the player from doing so. If it still occurs, please let me know!
Have a nice weekend,
Bernhard
Conclusion:
- fixes for player falling through the world
- short tutorial added

Update 0.1.1 |
Dear followers,
in this update I implemented a system for darker areas like seen in Amnesia. SO if you get out of light, the ambiance lightning gets a little bit brighter but objects that are further away maybe disappear in fog.
Other improvements include graphical improvements that the textures appear even more retro. And the bat monsters fly now lower and do not push you away especially in the first level.
Here is also a sneek peak for what awaits you in the next content updates:
Stay healthy,
Bernhard
Conclusion:
- darkness system
- graphical improvements
- bat monster ai improvements

Update 0.1.0 Story Update |
Dear followers,
I managed to finish the story update earlier than expected.
Now you can uncover some parts of the story and maybe get some more questions which will be answered in the next Chapter.
You can now read notes and get hints on what is going on. They are scattered around the levels, so if you take your time and look around you will find out more.
There are also new effects since the last Update included like impact particles on enemies.
I also fixed some bugs which causes falling through the level or be stuck on some ledges.
Also some shadersand textures got tweaks since they looked a little bit odd or out of place.
Finally the flashlight lights up things further away and the UI interaction text got bigger.
There is also a new intro scene on the beginning.
So check out the new biggest update to date for Dayscream and experience the first parts of the story.
I hope you like the new things and experience fewer bugs.
If new problems arise let me know.
News on new things like Chapter 2 will follow in the next weeks. To keep updated Check here on Steam from time to time, on Twitter @BPotu or on my Discord Channel: https://discord.gg/Z6MSezS
Best whishes and stay healthy,
Bernhard
Conclusion:
- readable Notes
- new story pieces
- fix for falling through level
- fix for getting stuck on ledges

Roadmap for next Update | Dev Diary #4 |
Hello dear followers,
the Early Access launch was very exciting, and I am working on the next update for Dayscream.
It will feature bug fixes, gameplay tweaks and a big update for the story: it will feature readable notes to push the story forward and give the player an idea on what is going on.
So, it will contain the classic note reading ability known from other games. In this way you will be able to explore the first parts of the story.
I will also aim at the most crucial bugs like falling through the floor or be pushed through walls and objects by enemies.
I will also create a Trello board for the public where you can follow on your own the next steps and the roadmap for Dayscream.
I hope to push the update in the mid or the end of next week.
Until then enjoy the game and have a nice October and weekend!
Best wishes,
Bernhard

Early Access | Dev Diary #3 |
Hello dear whishlister, reader, followers and other people!
Sorry for the long silence, I was absent for a few days. But in this time a prepared for an Early Access release for Dayscream.
The short version: I decided to go this way to get more feedback from you faster.
The long version: I think Early Access fits very well for dayscream, to implement faster suggestions from the players and develop and unfold the story, where needed, together. I think it will really boost the development of the game and will only end up in a better version. I also hope to have a better chance to interact and share with you, the players.
And now let's cover some questions:
When will the Early Access version be released?
When it is ready. I hope in 2-3 weeks from now, so mid October.
What will be the state of the game?
It will features the first levels, or better said the first chapter. You will experience narrow tunnel systems as well as openly outside locations. You will also have to solve puzzles and fight against enemies.
How long will it be in Early Access?
I think about 5 months up to one year.
Thanks for reading, I am already very excited about the release of the Early Access version of Dayscream. :)
Greetings,
Bernhard

Short Alpha Walktrough | Dev Diary #2 |
Hello dear whishlister, reader, followers and other people!
Today I will not talk about much what I have coded or done. Instead I will post a short video wher I walked thorugh the first 2 levels of the game. You will see some of the features and monsters and also some bugs and clunky animations.
But I hope you will still enjoy the short presentation :)
Greetings,
Bernhard

Getting things together | Dev Diary #1 |
Welcome to my very first dev diary. It has been a while since the steam game festival and a lot of stuff has happened since then.
I changed a little bit the shaders of my materials to get an overall crispier look but with a little pixelated vision. I will include a screenshot to show you the actual state of the aesthetic.
I also implemented more levels, monsters and a pistol to finally have more than just a pipe as a weapon.
I also implemented a somehow remote control especially for specific levels which should guide you the way if you get lost throughout the level. More on that in the future, I will not spoil you .
For me, one of the biggest achievements since the game festival is the look an the atmosphere of the outside level. I loved the aesthetic and the atmosphere of the original Silent Hill, and that was what I was aiming for.
This is just a small insight on what was going on since June. I will continue to keep you updated.
Best whishes!
