Long time no see! We've had a huge break from writing news, but the game development didn't stop even for a moment in that time. Actually, there's been a lot of exciting things happening behind the scenes.
Anyway, today it's time to talk about Pathfinding in Liquidation.
There've been some significant updates recently, and it's time to share them with the community!
To start the topic, here's a dev view of how buildings can now look on the pathfinding grid in Liquidation:
It's important to note that before this round of changes, the buildings were simple rectangles on the pathfinding grid. Now, the shapes on the grid match the actual buildings much better.
The consequence of them being simple rectangles was as simple as the following picture present. The units weren't able to sneak through corners. But now, after the change - they can.
That also means Dominus can finally walk between the two buildings and deal decisive blows to anyone who dares to oppose the Twilight Crusade!
Now that we've got that out of the way - let's move on to the meat of this news post.
You might remember from the news about Corrupt Nether Environment that idle avoidance response got improved in Liquidation. That was another one of the steps towards what's shown below.
Using other avoidance behaviors, Local Avoidance introduction improved unit behavior around buildings.
After that, and a few updates later, we've arrived at the results you can inspect on the video here:
The Corruption raids a Twilight Crusade outpost, who's going to win this battle? Will it influence the war efforts?

Please share your thoughts!
Maybe you want to ask a question about the Corruption appearance in this news post? Ask away!

This week, we're ready to announce that Liquidation now supports community translations! We will be looking for people to help with translations in the future, so keep your eyes peeled for further news, as this is a community-driven effort!
For starters, we ran an automatic translation to the Korean language. Next, we invited the community to begin translating the game to Spanish and Polish languages. The system seems to work, which bodes well for the future. We're still testing and uncovering bugs.
The screenshots you can see here present some elements of the Polish translation of the game. There are still some kinks to be worked out with the fonts, but nothing we can't accomplish over time.
One of the features that we want to keep in the game is switching between languages in the game on the fly. You can change the language in the settings even during a match. Currently, we're testing English, German, Polish, Spanish, and Korean texts, as it seems people speaking those languages are waiting for the game the most, according to our Wishlist data.
Incomplete translations will have their missing texts keep the English versions.
Please let us know what languages you'd like to see next for the game!

In the news last week we announced the Legion faction is almost finished. There, you might've learned that the Nether started to consume the fabrics of reality, and now it's reflected in the corrupted Nether environment.
This change should allow the world to be much more filled, which is one of the most important things to address before Liquidation is ready for Early Access.
Which part of this environment do you like the most? What's the thing you'd like to see next?
We've also improved the idle avoidance response, but what does that mean?
While playing RTS games, you might've noticed that units need to interact with each other when not directly controlled - for example - when a group of your units is passing through your idle army.
After introducing unit collision a while back, we faced a problem - idle units often blocked moving ones... So here's a demo of how it works now, where Husks - Legion faction workers - are running around other Husks.

The New Liquidation faction - Legion - is almost finished. I have been working tirelessly (as always ;)) and we are nearing completion of this faction. Our testers have been busy playing - and they are having great fine playing Legion with its unique dynamics.
Gameplay videos will be available in just a couple of weeks, but to quench your thirst for some Liquidation content - surely - I can offer you this screenshot and excerpt from Legion lore!
Excerpt from lore:
In a plane beyond comprehension lies the crystalline dimension of Zyndik, a world unlike any other and home to the endless legions of the Nether.
As the bloodcurdling calls of the Weaver echo throughout all of creation, rifts open in other planes to create connections for the Nether to flood the worlds and spread their influence.
They seek to consume and convert all to the Nether and the rifts bring forth the ceaseless legions into the foreign words, all serving directly under the entity they call the Weaver, the one who shapes their forms.
With the Nether beginning to consume the fabrics of reality in Ve, their legions search every crack and fissure for something or someone.
Another weekly update is here! Granted, I might have missed the last 30 or 40 weekly updates. But this one is worth the silence! At least, I hope. The big (semi-big?) news is that we now have working replay functionality! Not only that, but our replays are very small and thus easy to share! This way, I am hoping to boost community sharing of replays and reviewing various matches to improve yourself or to see if the other guy cheated or not. (So far 0 cheaters have been detected though) Enjoy this little mundane game - that might not been exciting to watch - but proves the replay functionality! Hello fellow Liquidators!
Another milestone reached - cool skirmish AI!
Over last couple of months I have been slowly working on organic feeling skirmish AI. And now i can finally say mission accomplished. AI does work, is cool, and feels at least 75% organic!
On top of that, testing with multiple AI opponents ( up to 6 players ) created perfect opportunity to optimize the game. And now I can say Liquidation runs smoothly even with hundreds of active units!
Check it out for yourself, recorded few videos as the development progressed:

There has been misinformation floating about that this project is canceled. And I know my passive attitude about talking to the community for the last few months has not helped things. My wife and I, suffered a personal tragedy. We lost our newborn son. That devasted us and prohibited me to do any work on the project for few months, and it still impacts me. However in life, we can move only forward, so I have decided to continue working on the project. Now I want to clarify the situation about the project. The project is not abandoned, however, it will not retain form as it was intended from the beginning. In order for our goal to be more achievable while retaining some form of healthy work-life balance, I have decided to change the genre to TBS. I know its a big jump, however, it is much simpler to develop. All the problematic parts of RTS dont factor in TBS - no real-time pathfinding, no extensive optimizations of movement, no collision avoidance, no optimization for multiplayer. This will possibly save me thousands of hours of development. I used to work 300+ hours a month on this project, and in light of recent events, I decided thats not the way I want to live. Although Liquidation RTS was my dream, I had to admit to myself, its a dream that is crushing me, with its sheer volume and demands. I know for some of you this is a disappointment, but please understand this was a decision born of necessity. I do hope there are some of you that will still enjoy Liquidation in tactical turn-based form. As always I intend to put out a free demo of this new form of Liquidation, so all of you can evaluate for yourself if you want to continue supporting this project. Thanks PS.: Stay tuned for more news about the game. Even though we are changing genre, I still want to put user experience as my highest goal and hopefully
It's time to fill out some forms! Yes... everybody's favorite activity, surveys!
If you have played the demo of Liquidation and enjoyed it or not, in both cases we want your feedback to make the game better!
Take the survey
For those of you who didn't get to play the demo yet or missed the link - you can download it directly from Steam store (Request access to liquidation playtest )
Your feedback will be crucial in deciding how much time we will be spending on iterating over various systems and will help us improve the quality of Liquidation!
Thank you and have a great day!
PS.: Don't forget to tell your family and friends about Liquidation!
PS.: If you missed it, we are currently funding on Kickstarter
We are amazed by how generous the RTS community is. Although our backer numbers are not that high, the average donation certainly is!
I think that we, as an RTS community, might not be strong in numbers, but we make up for it with our dedication to the genre. This is what our great start means to me. And that is genuinely great motivation for us to deliver Liquidation to this community.
Demo
Quite a few streamers played our demo, and you can find a playlist of such videos here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOF0G9xABg6cwItAfcAJSY-RGKmKNMr6W
Some did great, and some didn't manage to finish up the mission. Perhaps they were expecting less of a challenge ;). But here at the studio, we love the challenge, both in our level design and in our work lives.
In the end, all that matters is that people had fun with it!
More than 1000 players also downloaded the demo! And you had a lot of comments and suggestions. That shows a real passion for Liquidation and RTS genre. Just please don't try to contact me directly :( You had... a lot... a lot of suggestions.
This event brought us to an idea! You can expect a Poll about the demo, your likes, and dislikes of what you have experienced in a few upcoming days. It became apparent from your involvement that this is an excellent opportunity to analyze our strengths and patch up our weaknesses!
PS.:
For those of you who did not hear about our KS until now:

You have the last chance to get an Early Bird special package, as it expires in few hours. If you want to get your hands on the game as soon as possible, this package contains a Digital copy with Early access included + some other goodies!
Thank you all!
And have a great day.
Big news, Liquidators!

Hear! Hear! The Fantastic world of Vea will soon be receiving new gods! Do not be alarmed! You need not be afraid for your skull will be safe. Or at least safe from these new deities. They appear to be quite merciful and wish all the best to the human beings that will inhabit their land. Such is the nature of things. New heroes replace old and new stories are crafted from tales of the past. The Kiwi Brothers Studio who have been driving development of Liquidation for a long time are stepping back and the project is going to have a new publisher - Grindstone. The Liquidation community and fans need not worry. Grindstone will be taking the publishing lead and team Divio headed up by Erik Vinclav who was working on the game design and programming of the game will remain on the project. Divio will take over the development duties and software solutions for Liquidation. Story of Liquidation moves on, in fact it is accelerating. We hope that you will continue supporting this project and we look forward to seeing you in the world of Vea very soon. The first chance to join the fight will arrive in May with the launch of the KIckstarter campaign. Stay tuned Kiwi, Grindstone & Divio
I have decided to start posting some development updates about our game Liquidation, so people can see some sweet sweet features we are working on : ) [previewyoutube=znMXcmQyWpI;full][/previewyoutube] This week its run & gun! Most ranged units will be able to fire while moving however in some cases it comes with movement speed penalty or precision penalty. To balance this out, weapons with higher DPS will have loading time, so you cannot kite enemies with heavy damage dealers! Join us on our Discord, if you are interested in more day-to-day updates and small dev tid-bits : ) https://discord.com/invite/liquidation Hope you like it!

What's up Deities?
Today's character profile features one of our latest created characters which is one of the leaders of the Twilight Crusade faction.
Twilight King Dominus Ailwing
Race: Human/Soul-eater
Age: 3,161 years (Immortal)
Origin: Pryht
Height: 332 cm
Weight: Unknown
Gender: Male
Bloodtype: A+
Affiliation: Twilight Crusade
Occupation: Twilight King (Leader of the Twilight Crusade)
Relative(s): Falira (Lover), Shira (Sister), Gishmel (Father)
Personality: Dominus personality is conflicted due to the nature of his being, he usually cycles between an apathetic state and a more emotional one. Despite this inner conflict he tends to be very focused on the events unfolding and is a master strategist on the battlefield. From the teachings of his father Dominus tends to be protective of those close to him, even going so far to willingly give his life for theirs.
Likes: Honor, Discipline, Swordplay
Dislikes: Lies, Losing control, Individuals without honor
Background: Dominus is a human cursed with immortality, brother to Shira, son of Gishmel, beloved of Falira and current bearer of the Curse of Life.
Dominus never learnt the art of magic as he was denied this by his own father but was instead told myths of ancient times.
When Gishmel died, Dominus and Shira ascended the throne but failed to uphold the Church of Illuminus. They later formed the Twilight Crusade to vanquish the monstrosities of Ulkatan and return peace to the realm.
Throughout his rule he held a close relationship with the elven woman Falira who was saved by Gishmel from the Tempus Cage ages ago. Though once told by his own father that no soul-eater should ever engage in love he ignored this fact and continued.
After the war against the Julavum Empire and its allies and the consequent event of the Splintering, Dominus held a firm grasp on the throne to overpower the Crusades enemies.

What's up Deities?
Today we want to talk a little bit about what we are currently working on.
Liquidation is a real time strategy game which includes several tactical elements such as using the environment as cover for your units.
But this is just one of the features which we are currently working on.
Today we want to give a short insight about the weapons in Liquidation.
In Liquidation it is possible to equip most of your units with different kinds of equipment and weapons, changing how they behave and attack.
Equipping new weapons changes stats like attack speed, attack range, damage, attack types and even movement speed as well as defensive values.
However, these units will usually not be able to change their designated role such as changing a squishy ranged unit into a melee tank.
In case you are curious on what kind of weapons we are currently working on, we have attached a few concept artworks.
We plan to reveal more detailed information about the game in the upcoming months together with the launch of the first teaser and gameplay trailer.
Until the next update!
What's up Deities?
Since the background story is very important to us, we want to start a series of character profiles beginning with this post which will give a small insight into the background of each playable character in our fantasy/sci-fi singleplayer and multiplayer real-time strategy hybrid LIQUIDATION, a game in which you take the role of a Deity to bring back balance to the devastated and war-torn world of Ve.
We are also planning to reveal some addtional gameplay information about them in the future which will include their abilties and role on the battlefield for the people who are more interested in gameplay.
You can also expect a game teaser and a trailer in the coming months when we get closer to our kickstarter campaign launch and of course the launch of the game itself.
Today's character profile features one of our latest created characters which is one of the leaders of the Scourge faction, an alliance of poisonous reptile creatures which excels in early harassing attacks.
High Priestess Celeste Xelsius
Race: Basilisk Lamia
Age: 107 years
Origin: Vrathor
Height: 254 cm
Weight: 198 kg
Gender: Female
Bloodtype: AB-
Affiliation: Scourge Alliance
Occupation: High Priestess & Advisor of the Scourge Alliance
Relative(s): Aeternus (Husband)
Personality: Celeste is a very religious person. Having spent much of her youth in a temple, she found enjoyment in praying and healing magic. She has a motherly personality, and so can't ignore people in need, being always prone to help her people if there's a problem. She tends to let people tell her what to do, rationalizing this to be the will of the Gods.
Likes: Praying, Herbalism, Singing
Dislikes: Violence, Herself
Background: Celeste is a rare lamia basilisk, the high priestess of the Scourge Alliance, the wife of Prophet Aeternus and a sorceress capable of casting magic through her voice.
Throughout her youth she struggled due to her paralyzing gaze, unintentionally inflicting pain upon others which caused her to embrace solitude to protect those she held dear.
Holding unto her faith and the enjoyment of singing she tried to overcome solitude until a fellow lamia who was able to resist her gaze gave her the hope she needed to escape her despair.
After the cataclysmic event of the Splintering she united the races of the hollow worlds alongside her husband, forming the Scourge Alliance.
With the appearance of the resource of quenrium, the Scourge Alliance went to war against the Twilight Crusade despite her plead of resolving the issue peacefully.
