Weve had a big release on other platforms, and brought the improvements made along the way to the Windows version as well!
Weve been lucky to work with 3 talented voice actors to bring the characters of Edrist, Ajax, Konel, and Bucket to life. Now, playing through the campaign sounds wrong without them. Their websites as well as many other changes you can check out below!
Unfortunately, this update is not yet available for Linux. We hope to bring that, and a Mac version to you very soon!
This is an exciting update that should bring a lot of energy to Galacide. Check-in on our Discord for more updates!
Check out our updates to Dystopia and Blade Symphony that has been released alongside this as well!

Check out the latest update for our last game, Blade Symphony, too!
We're incredibly excited about this. After three years of silence, we have a new update for Galacide with tons of improvements.
The Warp Ahead update brings Galacide from Unreal Engine 4.10.1 to 4.20.1, and now we have Steam Controller Support and Mouse Control on all of the menus, along with many changes below!
This is a big step for us, as we've been keeping the engine updated for quite some time, but haven't been able to push an udpate. Stay tuned to our Discord for more updates!
Changes:
- Added Steam Controller support
- Added mouse control to the main menu, pause menu, and level select screens
- Added a hold [key] to ready prompt to the ship select screen
- Changed the scores screen to work more directly with the steam API
- Added new indicators for bomb scrap so players can tell exactly what will explode
- Changed enemy bombs to have higher contrast and be more noticeable
- Updated the attack pattern of the miniboss to make it more variable
- Changed the lighting on Mine Entrance so that players could more easily identify gameplay elements
- Added a filter between the background and the bitwall when things get hairy to make it easier to focus on gameplay
- Added a scrap pool at the back of the screen so that players have more options for moving through levels
- Slight damage change on battleship missiles to improve balance
- Updated credits
- Changed tutorial to be more comprehensive
- If bits are clearing, combos will no longer end
- Increased the score value of multimatch combinations
- Increased control to enemy destruction screenshake
- Increased enemy keep away avoidance to keep enemies from clumping together
- Added new enemy rotation behavior
- Added new particles to make enemy attack direction more clear
- Ship control has been improved, providing players with quicker acceleration and turning.
Linux Support
We've pushed the Warp Ahead update for Linux, but as we are a small team, have limited equipment for testing. Our initial tests have shown some potential framerate issues, and our testers have seen small graphical problems, but we would love your feedback in our forums or Discord to navigate and address any issues you may find on Linux.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed multiplayer warp bug
- Fixed a bug where turrets were not flashing when damaged
- Fixed some text clipping in various menus
- Locked resolution to certain ratios to eliminate bugs related to window size
- Fixed an issue where scrap would sometimes disappear from puzzle levels
- Made it much easier to pick up, drop, and ignore scrap in puzzle mode
- Fixed the Mine Entrance boss ball attack to not look like power ups
- Fixed some achievements that were not unlocking properly
- Fixed a bug where certain enemies always moved up and left
- Fixed a bug where particle effects would spawn multiple times causing the game to lag
- Fixed the fighters sine wave bullet patterns
- Fixed problems with controllers and keyboards not respecting one another in coop mode

To celebrate our ongoing work on Galacide, future MacOS release and (hopefully) Nintendo Switch release, we've lowered the price of Galacide to 4.99! We're excited to have Galacide show in Steam's $5 or less section, and hope this means more people can enjoy our favorite shmup+puzzler ("shmuzzler!") Look forward to more updates in the coming months about our recent work. Thanks for your support!

The previous announcement had to do with an update that we've been hard at work on. We currently are juggling work on four other projects, one of them being the upcoming Harmonious Prelude update. So let's talk about the progress on the next update for Galacide:
Mouse Control
The largest new feature for Galacide in the next update will be Mouse Control. Currently, we force everyone to navigate the menus using WASD or keyboard arrows, which really sucks. This was because Galacide was originally created on such an earlier version of Unreal Engine 4, that made it impossible for us to produce a mouse cursor easily. We understand that, in order for Galacide to be successful on future platforms, and for players to have immediate understanding and enjoyment, they need to use a mouse on PC/Mac/Linux. So, one of our talented UE4 programmers, Michael Lee, has been hard at work on re-building the menus from the ground up to support the UMG system that UE4 provides us. Here's a video of his progress:
Mac OSX Port
Unreal Engine 4 has certainly provided much better support for Mac in recent years, and we're finding that Galacide runs at 60fps or better on a pretty old Mac we have for building and testing. We'll be updating Galacide and offering a Mac version of the game in our next release! We hope that this isn't our last platform, as we'd love to put Galacide on consoles in the future. More on that later :)
Translation/Localization
In addition, out of the box we only offered Galacide in English. Updated versions of Unreal Engine 4 have made it much easier for us to localize the text throughout the game. We're hard at work crowdsourcing translations for Galacide, and hope to implement everything for the next update.
More changes?
We've heard a lot of the feedback on Galacide, and while enjoyable for most, it seems people tend to prefer the split between SHMUP and Puzzle. We've toyed around with changes to levels to increase this gap, and we're having internal discussions. We'll followup in the next few months with more information on what this looks like. Thanks for reading!

Today, we're coming at you with a different type of update. Only a few days ago, we released Build 9, which included a few post-release additions and fixes. Now, we're supporting the Linux and SteamOS community by releasing Galacide for Linux! You can now purchase and play the game on computers using Linux and SteamBoxes! However, we did want to bring up a few points. Linux development is new for us, and so is this engine. We've encountered some problems with how Galacide and Unreal Engine 4 play with older AMD/ATI drivers. We do NOT recommend purchasing Galacide if you have an AMD or ATI video card. We will work to support Galacide for Linux with bug fixes, Engine updates and tweaks in order to help it perform better using this hardware. We also hope that with a larger sample size, we'll be able to sort out any new-found issues. Known Issues
- Poor performance on some computers with AMD/ATI graphics.
- No splash screen upon game start.
- No loading screen, going in between the game and menus.

Hot on the heels of our release is the new addition of Galacide Steam Trading Cards!
Here's a sneak peek at one of nine in total Galacide Steam Trading Cards that can be obtained from blasting the Bitwall into oblivion:
Release Build 9 Change log

- Possibly fixed Endless music not playing sometimes.
Stay Tuned!
We're working hard to put together the official Galacide Soundtrack composed by the amazing Tom Stoffel and the Digital Art-book curated by our very own talented 2d Artist Meredith Laxton. Here's a peek at the upcoming Digital Art-book:

Last November, 10 developers flew hundreds of miles from England, Australia, Germany and all over the United States, to create a new game. Tired from the trip, we spent the week relaxing, discussing and creating the foundation of a game that would become Galacide. It was developed from the start using a prototype that would drive the direction of the game. After 9 months of grueling work, exhibiting at our first conference, and opening a new office, we feel Galacide is ready for prime time.
From the bottom of our hearts, we must thank you. Our readers, our players, our fans, friends and family, who have all helped support this project from inception to completion. This is a game that we're proud to call ours, and now we want you to have it.
We're releasing Galacide to the public today, July 28th.
The last Early Access content patch is releasing this morning, Build 8. It includes tons of polish, optimizations and new content. Here are some of the changes that we've been hard at work on for the last few weeks.
Conclusion of the campaign
In this patch we are releasing our final set of levels including Debris Field, Desert Ruins and Scrapyard. Also we have added the character dialog to the game if you would like to read about the creation of the characters for Galacide you can go to our blog
New Bosses
Pretty much everything has been updated including the old bosses but I will just focus on two of the new ones. First off we have added fight sequences that you will encounter at the ends of levels 1 and 4.
We have also added our end boss into the game, The Bit-Matriarch, you will encounter her after fighting your way through the Scrapyard!
Military Ship
We added the final ship to the game it focuses primarily on offense with a fast shooting machine gun, missile volleys, and the ability to dash through bits and enemies.
Release Build Change logGameplay:
- Bomb damage increased from 500 to 1200 so it now destroys most enemies.
- Scrap no longer fire bullets.
- Increased the size of Player respawn blast radius.
- Holding a scrap highlights all Bits of that color.
- Cleared Bits now spawn projectiles that damage enemies and do damage based on your combo.
- “Taking Out the Trash” achievement now requires you to clear 750 Bits in a level.
- “We’ve Got Hostiles” achievement now requires you to kill 500 enemies in a level.
- “The Final Frontier” now requires you to travel 500k units.
- Added Military Ship
- Weapon Levels: Autogun, Wave Gun, Extra Missiles
- Ramming Speed! Smashes through Bits in the direction being held.
- Unlocked by defeating the Bit Matriarch.
- Added an achievement for unlocking the Military Ship.
- Freighter now becomes unlocked when beating level 1.
- Ships now all have a win animation, instead of a warp-out explosion.
- Gun Turrets no longer spawn on the top/bottom rows of bits that are mostly off screen.
- Linking Turrets now maintain their link for a while after their connection goes off screen.
- Snake Boss spawns powerups based on the color of the scrap used to damage him.
- Scrap inside the Snake Boss belly is easier to see.
- Eradicator bombs drop experience powerups when destroyed before exploding.
- Added a new Eradicator boss that will appear in level 5 Desert Ruins.
- Added a fight sequence to the end of Campaign Level 1 - Asteroid Belt, which acts as a boss.
- Tutorial is now named Introduction.
- Remade the Tutorial to include updated mechanics and hopefully better explain old mechanics.

- Modified some puzzles to more clearly present the mechanics they are intended to test.
- Added a combo counter to the hud tracks your current combo and current score multiplier.
- HUD elements flash when player takes damage and pulse red when health is low.

- Made it so score isn’t added until you lose your combo and then it is added all at once.
- Score now counts up instead of just changing all at once.
- Made the player widget larger and added labels to it.
- Rearranged Star Map slightly for better flow.
- Collision optimizations.
- Added controller vibration controls.
- Added music to Ship Selection, Puzzle maps, Eradicator and fight sequences, the Bit Matriarch, and Victory music.

Power-Ups
We have created three power-ups to assist you as you battle the alien invaders. Teal powerups will restore a portion of your ship’s health. Orange power-ups will cause your ship to fire twice as fast and to move 50% faster for 10 seconds. Finally, purple power-ups will give you XP. Power-ups only drop from cleared bits, so make sure you’re getting as many matches as you can!
Control Changes
We have now bound the drop scrap and use special ability to two separate buttons. On the gamepad, B drops scrap and X uses the ship’s special. On keyboard, C drops scrap and X uses the ship’s special.
Gameplay Overhauls
We have completely redone the gameplay of the game’s first level, Asteroid Field, as well as updated the background to improve the look of the level. We’ve also rebalanced the difficulties on all levels, making hard just a bit tougher, and expert even more frantic and challenging.
Enemy Changes
On top of the typical enemies that you are used to seeing in Galacide, you will now notice our new swarm versions of the Sine and Seeker enemies, which will drop scrap less often. We have also altered the Eradicator 27b (2nd level boss) to ensure that the encounter is more exciting and challenging.
Player Ship Balancing
We have done a lot of work ensuring that all of our ships are as balanced as possible in an attempt to make each ship valuable in combat. The Freighter now does more damage overall, and takes less damage when colliding with enemy ships. The Phase Ship has a longer phase cooldown, and the Mining Ship’s first-level weapon has been changed to a weaker version of its level 2 spread shot.

Hey everyone! Today we are releasing an update for Galacide, which will introduce Steam achievements as well as a brand new Puzzle Play game mode. We’ve also changed the ship requirements, meaning that the Freighter and Phase Ship must now be unlocked prior to use.
Steam Achievements
We have added 21 achievements to unlock, some of which include reaching a certain score in endless mode or completing a certain level.
Puzzle Play
A new game mode called Puzzle Play has been added. Puzzle Play features 30 puzzles that are arranged in 5 tiers based on what mechanics they test. Tier 1 tests basic matching skills, including morphing. Tier 2 focuses heavily on morphing. Tier 3 challenges the player to create multi-matches. Tier 4 tests the player’s ability to predict how Linking Turrets will reconnect when their connected turret is destroyed, and introduces bombs. Finally, Tier 5 tests players’ knowledge of the most advanced concepts of Galacide.
Updated Particles
We have performed a major particle overhaul for Galacide. We’ve added new particles for events such as when the player ship is heavily damaged as well as a spark effect when bit arms spawn. There have also been several major revisions to the projectile particles for both player and enemy ships. We’ve also made it so that when you destroy an enemy ship, it will spawn debris.
Optimization
We’ve optimized a lot of the assets for Galacide, which should lead to players achieving higher framerates and smoother performance overall. Click here for the full list of patch notes.

Today we’re releasing an update for Galacide and a new trailer showcasing our gameplay and features! This update includes new enemies, level improvements, a new mini boss, a projectile visual overhaul, and more!
As a result of these changes all campaign progress has been reset.
New Enemies
We added two new enemies in this patch: the Beam Destroyer and Linking Turrets.
We’ve also reworked the two shooting enemies, the Defender and Fighter. They now have multiple shot patterns and scale with difficulty.
Level Updates
We continued to work on the first batch of campaign levels, adding in the new enemies and bit sequences, and continuing balance work. The bit sequences are a new feature which adds scripted bit patterns into the levels. This helps us easily tailor the puzzle difficulty relative to the action.
Mini Boss
We added another boss into the game, Eradicator 29b! He appears in the second level of the campaign, the Mine Entrance, and will also be included among the randomly chosen bosses after Threat Level 5 in Endless Play.
Projectile Visual Update
We didn’t think the current bullets were very easy to see, and with the enemy reworks there are a lot more of them! The particles themselves got a visual overhaul, and we changed the colors of the bullets to be more distinct. Each pattern has its own color to make it easier for players to recognize and adapt.

Hey everyone! This week’s update is a big one with lots of changes and additions. We hope you’ll be excited about, so let’s get into it!
Starting the Campaign
We've released the first 3 missions for the campaign mode, along with a sweet-looking Star Map which can be used to select them! We have more missions planned for future updates, but wanted to show you what we have been working on the past few weeks and get your feedback.
Snake Boss
Speaking of new content, the snake boss we mentioned in our last update, has slithered into the game! This menacing creature can be found in the Asteroid Base level of the campaign and after beating threat level 5 in Endless Play.
Balance and Polish
In addition, we spent a lot of time playing the game and working on making improvements to Endless Play's balance including:
- Overhaul of the difficulty system in Galacide.
- Adding more threat levels to Endless mode.
- Making the difficulty increase per threat levels less steep.
Fixes and Optimizations
Finally, we took time the past few weeks to address bugs and improve Galacide's performance by reviewing and updating our code. Special thanks to everyone who’s provided detailed information on bugs and performance issues they have been running into, thus far! This is our biggest update for Galacide to date, and it definitely won’t be our last! Hop in the game to check out the new features and let us know what you think - we really appreciate hearing our player's feedback! Thank you for reading.

🎮 Full Controller Support
- Galacide Linux [1.15 G]
- Galacide Art Book
- Galacide Soundtrack
Galacide is an evolution of the shoot ‘em up genre, combining the fast-paced action from classic shooters with the quick-thinking tactics of puzzlers. Choose from a variety of ships, each equipped with unique features and abilities. Embark on your mission to tunnel through the strengthening alien invasion, find it’s source, and save the galaxy! Go it alone or assemble a squad of your friends to battle in the most unforgiving corners of the universe!
Please note, because of Engine limitations, mouse control is not yet supported on Galacide's in-game menus. We hope to bring support in the future.
In Galacide, you must carefully strike a balance between fighting the enemy and tunneling through the encroaching Bitwall, as neglecting either will assuredly result in your demise. It’ll take a combination of skill, luck, and an advanced spacecraft to ensure your success, so choosing the right craft for your piloting style is key:
- Mining Ship - A retrofitted asteroid mining vessel, this ship has a solid balance of agility, strength, and firepower, and is equipped with a powerful tractor beam used to pull in enemy Scrap.
- Freighter - A re-purposed cargo-hauler, this ship may not be the fastest or hit enemies the hardest, but it’s as durable as they come, with the ability store & retrieve enemy scrap in its cache.
- Phase Ship - A top-secret military experiment, this ship is able to move extraordinarily fast and temporarily phase through the Bitwall, while dodging enemy attacks.
- Military Ship - The accepted standard for military conflict, this ship boasts huge strength and firepower. Homing missiles lock on targets, and the ability to burst through the Bitwall, carving its own path.
As part of your mission to eradicate the alien invasion, you will journey across the galaxy and visit unique destinations like asteroid fields, planets, mining depots, and junk yards - Each location bringing you one step closer to finding the invasion’s source!
Galacide is regularly updated with improvements and new features, and currently has the following functionality:
- 4 Player Co-op - Enlist the aid of your comrades in your fight to save the galaxy, with 4 player local co-op!
- Campaign - Fight your way through unique environments and challenges to discover the source of the alien scourge and eliminate it!
- Endless Play - See how far you can make it fighting through endless hordes of enemies and tunneling through the advancing bitwall!
- Puzzle Play - Complete progressively more difficult scenarios that challenge your mind, not your trigger finger!
- 4 Playable Ships - Choose from the Mining Ship, Freighter, and Phase Ship, each equipped with special abilities and unique attributes!
- In-game Tutorial - Become an ace pilot by going through a quick training program.
- Leaderboards - Track your skills and see how you compare to your friends and the best pilots in the universe!
- Steam Economy - Achievements, Trading Cards, Badges and collectible Emoticons.
