Behind the scenes Well, without spoiling anything of the story... this is a situation you will encouter in the newest part of the game. And here I really tried to create a more spooky atmosphere - which is of course very different from the usually very bright and colorful scenes in the game. Now to do this, I first made the 6 animation frames for this broken robot-hand- and then placed it in a sort of neglected looking part of the ship. But that alone felt a bit boring, and so then I added the animated-fog in the forground... and finally, I made the blinking shadow effect for the background (by copying the background, making it lighter, and then cut out a part again, to create the shadow of the robot-hand). Well, this was really a fun scene to work on for me. And once I had this, I could then use the same effects for many more parts of the story. But...you'll probably see that soon enough :) Next? And that's all the news I have for now. But meanwhile I already started working on the next update, which I hope to release again in few months (You'll find the new release dates in FAQ). Behind the scenes Well, I always like to share some of what I made...but I don't want to spoil things :) So, therefore let's have a look at the map. It was once the first thing I made for Space Rescue, and it was a big help when designing the actual rooms for the game. But after detailing a room, it wouldn't always look like it's map-icon anymore. And so it was about time to bring the map up to date again. But it wasn't just cosmetics. For example the medbay really needed a door & so I finally added one :) Next? Well, and that's all the news I have for now. Behind the scenes Now in the last few months I've not only worked on Hank & Rosa's story- but I've also been preparing about a dozen mini-games for future updates. And for this I made a lot of new art, including some small details like these animated mouse-cursors below. The grabbing hands are already part of the new Neon Sign-game. Behind the scenes Well, I made a lot of new art for this update. And as usual, I like to show how it's made. So, one of the new rooms in this update is the Wrestlers Changeroom. Now for this room, I felt it should be instantly clear that it would be used by show-wrestlers. So I started with some extreme neon lights in the room, and filled it with weird costumes & wrestling gear. Oh- and of course I added a buddy-bag. You know, a bag to practice your wrestle moves on :) And here you can see a bit of my drawing proces for this room - I hope you find it interesting. Next? And that's all the news I have for now. Behind the scenes Well, I made a lot of new art for this update. And as usual, I like to show how that art gets made. So, one of the new rooms in this update is the Guestroom. Now there is actually a lot going on there For example, there are retractable beds, a closet with shutter, and there's a hatch. And this is just the empty room. Throughout the game the room will be occupied by several (rescued) guests as well. This makes the room of course very interesting...but also tricky to draw; for it has to work in every situation. Well, here you can see part my drawing proces for this room - I hope you find it interesting :) Next? And that's all the news I have for now. Behind the scenes Now I always like show a bit of the art I made for the update. But since this part of the game is all about 'finding out what happened'... I can't really do that without spoiling things :) So I'll just share this image from a Keypad-puzzle you will encounter. Now making this keypad wasn't as simple as I initially thought... since the un-pressed keys had to hide the pressed keys, while at the same time, their size also determines the clickable zones on screen... So making this puzzle, was a real puzzle by itself! Next? Well, that's all the news I have for now. Behind the scenes Now I also thought it might be interesting to show you a bit more of what goes into making the mini-games within Space Rescue. So here you see the 'Crane Game' that appears in the Junkers-story; and the many individual parts the game consists out of. Now when designing a mini-game, I always need to make sure it fits within a certain safe-zone. So the interactive zone of the mini-game should not overlap the HUD, and there always needs to be room to display the text bar at the bottom. So for that I use a special safety grid, as you can see in this gif-image. It's actually one of the first things I made for Space Rescue, and still very useful! Next? Behind the scenes Here I like to give you a glimpse of the creation process of the game :) Now this is the kitchen of the ship. And everytime I design a background like this, I always start with a rough sketch. And from there I refine it more & more, till I get to the final result. Now I must say, I love drawing the girls in this game, but... I equally enjoy imagining all this retro-futuristic kitchen equipement! There is just something fun about it all :) Next? Behind the scenes Just for fun, I also wanted to share a bit more on how I create Space Rescue. So, this is an example of how I draw the backgrounds for the game. The image below part of the new update. And as you can see in the Gif, it all starts with a rough sketch. Next I do the linework, then the colors. And finially I flatten the image to add the final details. Well, I hope you find it interesting :) Next? Well! Meanwhile, I already started working on the next update :) And I hope to be able to release it again in about 3 months. Apart from that, I also hope to be able to reorganise the Steam-page a bit. For example I want to add a Roadmap & expand the FAQ - to give you all more insight into my plans.
