Language
It's been a long time since the last update. The main reason for this update is to add a lot of different languages to the game. With the upcoming Update #13 there will be 39 supported languages in the game:
- Afrikaans
- Arabic
- Basque
- Belarusian
- Bulgarian
- Catalan
- Chinese (Simplified)
- Chinese (Traditional)
- Czech
- Danish
- Dutch
- English
- Estonian
- Finnish
- French
- German
- Greek
- Hebrew
- Hungarian
- Icelandic
- Italian
- Japanese
- Korean
- Latvian
- Lithuanian
- Norwegian
- Polish
- Portuguese
- Romanian
- Russian
- Serb-Croatian
- Slovak
- Slovenian
- Spanish
- Swedish
- Thai
- Turkish
- Ukrainian
- Vietnamese
Music
Speaking of music, I added 8 new music tracks to the game:
- Dandelion
- Hope
- Hopeful
- Light
- Mastered
- New Day
- Silent
- Sunshine
Ambient
I also added 9 new ambient tracks to the game:
- Birds #2
- Branches
- Calm Wind
- Cemetery
- Desert
- Jungle
- Savannah
- Sea Storm
- Tundra
Medieval Village Background
Beside that, I also added a new interactable background to the game. With it there are now 25 different backgrounds you can choose from. It's called "Village" and represents a medieval village. You can turn each torch individually on or off with the left mouse button or all at once with the right mouse button. Depending on your lighting and visual effect setting it can achieve different kind of atmospheres:
Lighting Moods
Moreover, I added two new lighting moods to the game, which means that there are now also 25 different lighting moods in the game. The first one "Blue Sky" exposes every scene with a bright light and a god-ray effect.
The second one "Darkness" does the complete opposite. There are no lights anymore. Use this if you don't like to be distracted or if only the scenery itself should illuminate the scene. Further, "Darkness" lets you embrace the visual effects even more. However, as it makes it very hard to see the matrix blocks and solve any matrix, I recommend to use the self-illuminating "Neon" blocks with it.
Visual Effects
There are also two new visual effects, which brings them also, and you probably guessed it now, to 25 visual effects you can choose from. The first one is called "Meteorite" and it will let rain meteorites from the sky, which will collide with the scene, explode and shatter into small pieces. It is also interactable and you can try to click a meteorite during the flight to let it explode in air. Why a meteorite shower in a calm riddle game? You should ask Wyvern-of-the-Rising-Sun as he suggested it.
The second visual effect was also suggested by him. A "Dragon" with 7 balls floating around. The dragon and his balls (no pun intended) are interactable and will react to your actions.
Block Style
To make everything complete, I also added two new block styles to the game, which brings them to 25 too. Actually, it is one block style with two variants. The block style "Leaf 1" will be without and "Leaf 2" with color and as the name suggested, it shows leaves with different counts.
These features and also some small performance optimizations will be available with Update #13, which will be released on the 25th September 2022.
Hello community,
I created recently a horror game prototype called Cursed Dungeon Raider in two weeks for the 2021 Unity x Humble Bundle Showcase.
It is an Indiana Jones / Tomb Raider like horror game, where you have to recover real historic artifacts from excavation sites, which are filled with traps and monsters.
Sell those artifacts at a museum to gain archaeological reputation and get access to new excavation sites or sell them on the black market to earn more money and buy new exciting equipment (not integrated yet).
You can download the game for free here:
https://cleverai.itch.io/cursed-dungeon-raider
You can rate the game here:
https://play.unity.com/mg/other/cursed-dungeon-raider-launcher
Feel free to test the game and tell me what you think.
Moreover, do you think I should work on this project further and bring it to Steam or not?
New Features
- game left Early Access and is now a full release
- updated the Demo version from June 2020 to the latest build July 2021
- added Steam Workshop to create and share your own custom content (click link below for more details)
- changed the overall chonky UI to a slim looking one
New Requested Features
- no features were requested
Fixed Bugs
- messages will now only progress if you click on them instead of clicking anywhere
- if you choose for the game another resolution than for your desktop (e.g. downsampling), tabbing out and in will set the correct resolution now instead of always to the desktop resolution
- the game will not run in the background anymore to spare your PC resources
Fixed Reported Bugs
- no bugs were reported
Release and Demo
With the Update #12, which will be available at Friday 2nd July evening (CET), Matrix Brain Twister will leave Early Access and become a full release. This means the monthly update rhythm will be changed to an update on demand. So only if you or I find still some bugs or have a new idea which features I can add to the game, I will do that as quick as possible. Moreover, the demo will be updated to the latest version too. What is in the demo?
- random generated or empty 2D and 3D matrices with all different forms
- all ambient and button sounds as well as all music tracks
- all different cursor, block styles, lighting moods, backgrounds and visual effects
- 4D matrices
- 600 handcrafted levels for 2D, 3D and 4D matrices
- save/load, achievements, progression, statistics, leaderboard
- Steam Workshop content
Steam Workshop
With the release, the Steam Workshop will be go online. This means you can create and upload custom content for "Ambient" and "Button" sounds, "Block Style" and "Cursor" images and also your own "Music". The specific instructions on how to create custom content can be found at multiple places (in game, custom folder, Steam Workshop, Steam Forum). You can also download "Sample" content from the Steam Workshop to look how it should be done. Here is a sneak peak on how the Steam Workshop looks in game:
New Slim UI
I also updated the overall UI and changed the look from a chonky to a slim design. You can see the difference on the following screenshots. Before (Chonky):
After (Slim):
These features and also some small bug fixes will be available with its release.
I can proudly announce that the game will leave Early Access soon and will be full released at the 2nd July 2021 evening (CET). The demo version will be updated too, but has no access to the handcrafted levels, the 4D matrices and the overall statistics as no progress will be saved. Moreover, at full release the monthly update rythm comes to an end. It will be replaced with an on-demand update rhythm. So only if you or I find some bugs or have a cool idea which I should add, I will fix or add that as quick as possible. You can tell me about your ideas and/or bugs on the Steam forum. Thank you for all who have already bought the game and supported me!

- added four new block styles: "Isometric", "Dash 1", "Dash 2" and "Wobble"
- added 30 levels and achievements for the 4D Pentachoron 4x4x4x4 matrix
New Requested Features

Fixed Bugs
- no bugs detected
Fixed Reported Bugs

Cloudy Lighting Mood
I added a new animated lighting mood called "Cloudy". It is a bright blue background with sun rays from the left and animated clouds.
Block Styles
Lately I've been neglecting the block style a bit. That's why I have create three new ones. The first static block style is called "Isometric". It has its origin from optical illusions and looks like a block out of smaller blocks.
The second static block style is called "Dash". There are two variants of it. One colorless version and one with color. It is helpful for colorblind people or if the set environment has very few lights. This makes it easier to differ color states of blocks.
The last block style is animated and called "Wobble" and the name really reflects what it does.
4D Levels
Last but not least I added 30 new levels and achievements for the 4D Pentachoron 4x4x4x4 matrix. It starts fairly easy, but gets hard to solve very quick. So I recommend this one only for experienced riddlers.
With the addition of these new levels there are now over 600 handcrafted levels to solve and therefore 1800 stars to collect. These features will be available with the next and last update before release.
New Features
- added desert city "Hadira" as a static background
- added "Rain" and "Sandstorm 2" VFX
- added 30 levels and achievements for the 2D Screw 7x7 matrix
New Requested Features
- no features were requested

- changed "Balloon" VFX so that balloons will always play an explosion SFX, if they burst; before only if player clicked on them
Fixed Reported Bugs
- no bugs were reported
Release Date
The game is coming closer and closer to the finish line. This means I can finally tell you a release date when the game goes out of Early Access. The planned release date will be: 1st July 2021
Desert City Background
I added a desert city called "Hadira" as a new static background to choose from. As you can see it is a city of skyscraper covered in a sandstorm.
Rain VFX
Furthermore, I added a "Rain" VFX. It collides with objects and creates little splashes during a collision. In combination with the "Rain" atmosphere sound effect and a calm music track, background and lighting of your choice, it can create a very relaxing mood. See this short video for an example. The following settings were used: Visuals
- Lighting: Cloudburst
- VFX: Rain
- Background: Banyan or Alley
- Music: None
- Atmosphere: Rain
2D Levels
In the recent updates I added a lot of 3D and 4D handcrafted levels. So it was time to go back to the roots and create a 2D matrix this time. Therefore, I added 30 new handcrafted levels and achievements for the 2D Screw 7x7 matrix. It looks like an intimidating 2D matrix, but it is actually easier to solve than the 5x5 Square matrix. Just focus on the first levels and you will solve all others in no time.
These features and also some small bug fixes will be available with the next update.
New Features
- added japanese "Alley" as an interactive background
- added "Cloudburst" lighting mood with animated clouds
- added 30 levels and achievements for the 3D Cubic Edge 5x5x5 matrix
New Requested Features
- no features were requested
Fixed Bugs
- no bugs found
Fixed Reported Bugs
- no bugs were reported
Japanese Alley Background
It took me some time, but now with the upcoming update I added a japanese alley as an interactive background. By clicking LMB on a lantern or sign board, you can turn on/off the light or you press RMB to turn on/off all lights. You can also change the view by clicking LMB on the front trash bin to see the alley from the other side.
Cloudburst Lighting
Furthermore, I created "Cloudburst", a new lighting mood with animated clouds.
3D Levels
Last but not least, I added 30 new handcrafted levels and achievements for the 3D Cubic Edge matrix. This one is one of the easier 3D matrices.
These are the features which will be available with the next update. In matter of bugs, I found no more bugs to fix. This means I see the finish line and will release the game fully in not so many more updates.
New Features
- Mac and Linux version is now available; Linux user must have the Vulkan API properly installed, otherwise the game will crash
- updated the back-end (Unity Editor, High Definition Render Pipeline, Steamworks) to the latest version; this has an impact on the visuals, mostly lighting, and performance
- converted project from C# to C++ (Windows, Linux) for better performance
- added the graphic setting "Volumetric Lighting"
- added a loading screen at the start of the game
- added 30 levels and achievements for the 4D Hypercrown 3x3x3x3 matrix

- fixed aggressive flickering of moving light sources
Fixed Reported Bugs

MacOS and Linux
With this update there will be versions for Mac and Linux user. However, Linux user need to have the Vulkan API installed, otherwise the game will crash. So if you have the Vulkan API properly installed and the game still crashes for your Linux OS, you should refund the game for now.
Back-End Update
I also updated the Unity Editor, its High Defintion Render Pipeline (HDRP) and Steamworks to the latest version. In addition to that I converted the game files from C# to C++ (Windows and Linux). All in all this update has a huge impact on the visuals, especially lighting, and performance. Therefore, let me know in the Steam Forum, how your favourite scene now looks and performs (better or worse FPS, visual glitches, artifacts, low resolution shadows, etc.).
Volumetric Lighting
Furthermore, due to this back-end update I changed the volumetric lighting effect for all scenes to reduce the low quallity noise. Moving light sources should also flicker less aggressively now. In the graphic settings there is a new option to change the volumetric lighting quality (Low, Mid, High, Ultra). The performance impact depends on the choosen scene and can be between no (0 FPS) or mediocre (~10 FPS) gain/lost.
Victorian Background
The already existing victorian background gets three new view directions. So you can now have four different views in one background. Change the view by clicking on the street name sign on the left or right side. As before, all street lights can be turned on/off individual with a left click or all at once with a right click.
4D Levels
Moreover, I added 30 new handcrafted levels and achievements for the 4D Hypercrown 3x3x3x3 matrix. This one looks easier than other 4D matrices, but it is still quite challenging.
Loading Screen
With the grow of the game, the start loading time takes longer. Therefore I added a loading screen at the start of the game to make the progression visible. As always these features and some bug fixes will be available with the next update.
New Features
- added 30 levels and achievements for the 4D Hypercubic Edge 3x3x3x3 matrix

- changed the visual of the main menu cubes; has now a slightly visible block profile on the edges
New Requested Features
- no features were requested
Fixed Bugs
- changed functionality of resolution and full screen mode settings
- 4D matrix settings were not saved and loaded properly
- reduced glossines of "Plane" background to avoid VFX reflection artifacts
Fixed Reported Bugs
- no bugs were reported
Grey Lighting Mood
I've created a "Grey" lighting mood. It doesn't distract you from the main part and also spends enough light to see everything in comparison to the darker lighting moods like "Space". So a simple lighting which fits for nearly every background.
4D Levels
In addition to that, I added 30 new handcrafted levels and achievements for the 4D Hypercubic Edge 3x3x3x3 matrix.
Tutorial Reminder
I also added a message reminder for the tutorial. It appears, if you don't solve the simple task within 15 seconds and tells you what your actual task was. For those people who either clicked to fast through the explanation or just haven't paid enough attention.
Main Menu Cubes
The last one is a small visual change for the Main Menu Cubes. I added a slightly visible block profile on the edges. It is barely noticeable, only with some bright lighting, but adds a little bit of depth to the objects. These features and as always a few bug fixes will be available with the next update.
New Features
- added 30 levels and achievements for the 4D Octaplex 5x5x5x5 matrix
- added two new landmarks for the existing Egypt background; click a hieroglyph on an obelisk to switch between the landmarks
- added now a possibility to use your own custom cursor
- change the style now everywhere by pressing C, M, L, V or B
New Requested Features

- mountains background starts now with Alps
- victorian clock tower rings now correctly to the current amount of hours
- added missing button sounds for some objects
- some VFX took a while until visible (leaves, snow)
- matrix blocks of a 4D matrix kept highlighted after using AD or arrow keys to navigate between the matrix
Fixed Reported Bugs
- no bugs were reported
Egypt Background Landmarks
Added two new landmarks for the egypt background. An ancient embalm temple and the great pyramid of Chepre. You can switch between them by pressing a hieroglyph on an obelisk.
[previewyoutube=Ty3hVG88uU8;full][/previewyoutube]
4D Levels
Moreover, I added 30 new handcrafted levels and achievements for the 4D Octaplex 5x5x5x5 matrix. It looks intimidating at first, but is solvable for every intermediate riddler.
Custom Cursor
With Update #6 it is also possible to create your own custom cursor. Just create three 512x512 png files named "Default.png", "Click.png" and "Drag.png". The click point is always in the center of the image. So make sure your cursor is pointing to the center. Then create a folder in "Matrix Brain Twister/Matrix Brain Twister_Data/StreamingAssets/Custom/Cursor" with a name of your choice and put these png files into it. Then start the game and you will see your custom cursor at the style settings on the option cube.
Sandstorm VFX
I also changed the Sandstorm VFX and made the grains of sand finer. Here is a comparision: Old
New
Style Everywhere
One last new feature is that you can now change the style of the game wherever you are. Just press one of the following buttons to change the assigned style. C - Cursor M - Matrix Block L - Lighting Mood V - VFX B - Background This and as always some few bug fixes will be available with the next update.
New Features
- added 30 levels and also achievements for the 3D Crown 5x5x5 matrix
- added 'Sunset' lighting mood
- added 'Banyan' background
- added an Audio Player; with that, removed music from disco ball and pyramid, as you can now easily change it via the Audio Player
- with a click on a specific progression, you will now switch to the correct matrix setting; so you don't need to set everything manually anymore to go to the correct level
New Requested Features
- no features were requested
Fixed Bugs
- fixed Sandstorm VFX, as it rotated weirdly in the near of the player camera
Fixed Reported Bugs
- no bugs were reported
Sunset Lighting Mood
Added a new lighting mood which represents an early sunset.
Banyan Background
Also added a new background, which is a forest of Banyan trees.
3D Levels
Moreover, I also created 30 new handcrafted levels for the 3D Crown 5x5x5 Matrix.
Audio Player
Furthermore, I added an 'Audio Player' to the game. Click on the music symbol in the bottom left corner to show it. Then you can switch between all the activated ambient sounds and music tracks and also change the pitch, volume and play order. With this you don't have to go to the audio options anymore to change the track you want to listen to, but the 'Audio Player' contains only the activated ambient/music tracks. Due to this new 'Audio Player', I removed the specific music track 'Night Sky' from the 'Disco'-ball VFX and 'Ancient' from the 'Egypt' pyramid background. This means the disco ball only activates the breakdancer, if you click on it, and the pyramid has no effects anymore. Nevertheless, you can activate those music tracks in the audio settings and easily play them with the 'Audio Player'.
Progression Shortcut
Last but not least, at the 'Progression' cube you can now click on the matrix name and it will switch over to the 'Matrix' cube with the correct settings set. So you can now see and play the remaining levels instantly, without to set it manually.
This and some few bug fixes will be available with the next update.

- it is now possible to add your own custom block styles to the game; just follow these instructions
- added three themed music tracks (Ancient, Arabic, Night Sky); they are deactivated by default
- added ancient Egypt background; left click on the pyramid to play the themed music as a loop
New Requested Features
- no features were requested
Fixed Bugs
- fixed 4D matrix save bug
Fixed Reported Bugs
- no bugs were reported
Ancient Egypt Background
Added with the new version an ancient egypt background. You can click on the pyramid to start the theme music. For the moment it is a static background, but for the future you can visit different POI's and see more of the ancient world.
2D/3D/4D Matrix Format
In addition to that I added several new matrix formats for all dimensions. 2D Screw (fixed size of 7x7 blocks)
2D Gear (fixed size of 8x8 blocks)
2D Snowflake (fixed size of 10x10 blocks)
3D Cup
4D Hypercup
4D Levels
I've also created 30 new handcrafted levels for the 4D Hyperhourglass 3x3x3x3 Matrix. Those levels are really difficult. Only recommend for advanced riddlers.
Custom Block Styles
Furthermore, you can now create your own block styles for the matrices. You can just add one grayscale image and a normal map. The game will then choose the correct colors. Nevertheless, you can also provide foreach color a seperate texture and each with its own normal map for more complex block styles. You can be creative, serious or funny as you want. A proper manual is on the Steam Forum.
Themed Music
Moreover I added three music themes (Ancient, Arabic, Night Sky) to the music playlist. You can either activate them on the specific object (disco ball, pyramid) or at the audio settings. As they are themed music, they are deactivated by default and will not be played as the normal background music. You can change it in the audio settings though. Don't forget that you can also add your custom songs too. The manual for it is already on the Steam Forum.
This content and as always a few bug fixes will be available with the next update.

- matrix formats are now alphabetically sorted for each language
New Requested Features
- extended tutorial with a main menu navigation
- added some more UI hints
Fixed Bugs
- added missing font characters; all usernames on the leaderboard should be readable now
- due to some save changes for the 2D Skull matrix, it is possible that all old progression for this specific matrix format is lost; I am sorry for this circumstance; all other progression is not affected though
Fixed Reported Bugs
- no bugs were reported
Disco Breakdancer VFX
For the already existing disco VFX, I created an Elvis 2.0 breakdancer who dances to a new added music track. You can change through the 4 modes (none, dance + music, music only, dance only) by clicking on the disco ball. [previewyoutube=pH8E8snrjSE;full][/previewyoutube]
3D/4D Matrix Format
I also added a new matrix format for the 3D and 4D matrices. It is a 3D Crown and a 4D Hypercrown.
3D Levels
In addition to that, I've created 30 handcrafted levels for the 3D Window 7x7x7 Matrix.
Button SFX
Furthermore, you can now choose between 10 different button click sounds or even create your own.
Tutorial
I also extended the tutorial with a main menu navigation. It seems that some people struggle with the UI design. So I hope this will help. Due to that, I also added more UI hints which describes the specific function further.
Font
Added missed characters to the game font. Now every name on the leaderboard should be shown correctly. All of this and a few bug fixes will be available with the next update.
New Features
- new 3D levels for the 3D Sphere of size 7
- new lighting moods: Earth, Heaven, Mars, Pink Sky
- interactive victorian city background with real time clock tower and switchable street lights
- new interactive VFX: Ballons, Clay Pigeon
- if the style text turns yellow in the style settings, the choosen style has some kind of interactions
- added a click counter to see which blocks you how often already clicked; turn it on/off in miscellaneous settings
New Requested Features
- added three block styles with two color modes (1. only symbol no color; 2. symbol and color) for people with a color vision deficiency: Dice, Roman, Symbol
Fixed Bugs
- small color corrections for some lighting moods
Fixed Reported Bugs
- no bugs were reported
Victorian City
I created a more complex victorian city background with a small interaction in it. You can look at the clock tower and always see your correct time. The bell tower also strikes on the hour as often as the hours have passed. Furthermore, you can turn on/off the street lights one by one with LMB or all at once with RMB.
Interactive VFX
I also experimenting with new interactive VFX. Therefore I created a VFX which spawns ballons at the ground, raises to the sky and explode either at a specific height or if you click on them.
The other interactive VFX is a clay pigeon. Two throwing machines throw clay pigeons in your view and you have to shoot them as fast as possible before they hit the ground. [previewyoutube=F-sFRSqYixI;full][/previewyoutube] These interactive VFX are for some distraction from the very difficult riddles. So your brain can have a pause.
Lighting
In addition to that, I also created 4 new lighting moods. A mysterious mars-like planet:
A beautiful view of the heaven:
A slighlty surreal looking pink sky:
A view of planet earth and the raising sun in the background from an earth orbit:
Blocks
For people who have problems in differentiate between colors, I created new block styles which shows a dice number, a roman number or a symbol instead of a color or besides a color.
3D Levels
Moreover, I've created 30 handcrafted levels for the 3D Sphere 7x7x7 Matrix.

These things and some bug fixes will be available with the next update.
New Features
- new 4D levels for the 4D Hypercube of size 2
- new ghosty lighting mood
- 6 different mountain backgrounds; change through them by clicking on the flag
- new water shader; change through them by clicking on the buoy
- every saved matrix has now a small save icon; with this you can faster recognize your saved games
New Requested Features
- no features were requested
Fixed Bugs
- fps counter now more accurate
- small engine optimizations
Fixed Reported Bugs
- no bugs were reported
Mountains
I created recently some new backgrounds. You can choose "Mountains" in the style settings and then you can see some grassy and alpine mountains. Also one type of a desert and an african mountain and also two types of nordic mountains. There are 6 different mountains in total. Click on the flag to switch between them.
Ghost Flame Light
I also experimenting with a new light mood. It should create a ghostly atmosphere in any scenario. The ghost flame flickers in light intensity and also moves randomly around you.
4D Levels
Moreover, I finally finished the first 30 handcrafted levels for the 4D Hypercube 2x2x2x2 Matrix.
These things and some bug fixes will be available with the next update.

Matrix Brain Twister Linux Content [2.1 G]
INTRODUCTION
Matrix Brain Twister is a puzzle game, where you have to solve matrices by filling all blocks with the same color. If a block is clicked, the block itself and its horizontal and vertical neighbours will change their color instead of a rotation like the Rubic's Cube. The matrix is solved, if all blocks are filled with the same color, except white.
This is a very simple game mechanic, but can lead to very difficult riddles.
True to the motto: Easy to learn, hard to master.
FEATURES
- 2D, 3D and 4D matrices
- Several matrix formats like: 2D (Hourglass, Skull, Star, etc.), 3D (Octahedron, Pyramid, Sphere, etc.), 4D (Hypercube, Pentachoron, Octaplex, etc.)
- Over 400 handcrafted levels which varies from easy to hard difficulty
- Random levels can be generated for your own fun and you can change them in dimension, format, size and colors
- Solve all handcrafted riddles to not only get achievements, but also to be at the top of the leaderboard
- Create your own feel-good atmosphere by choosing between different backgrounds, effects, light moods, block styles, music and atmosphere sounds
