We are celebrating the approaching first anniversary (this April 9th) by joining the Steam discounts with a great offer. We have also been preparing a playable demo for all those who want to try the project before deciding to buy it.
Personally, I can't believe it's already been a year since I published it, but at the same time I can hardly remember the time when I was developing the game. In this year there have been many changes between the game and I have learned many, many things about how to run and how to sell a videogame.
I hope that those of you who have never tried it can take a look at the game and enjoy it.
To celebrate that the game is going to be one year old in April I'm going to make a sale on the game that will last all that month. Additionally I am preparing a demo of the game so that people who don't decide to buy the game can try it for free. Patch notes: -Fixed a couple of graphical bugs that happened to some players. -Several spelling errors have been revised including the error in the start menu. -Fixed the bug that showed some Spanish texts in the English version in a certain path of the game. -The color balance of some illustrations has been corrected. Best regards
New major update for Dear Althea!!!
The biggest one to date that fixes many of the detected bugs and improves the experience in the game menus. Before looking at the details, remember that a new project is already in development and you can add it to your wishlist: From the Streets to the Script - A Carabanchel Story. (More info at the end)
Update details:
Engine update: The game has been updated to the latest version of the "Visual Novel Maker" software.
Menu improvements:
-The main menu now displays more information while the layout and design of the buttons has been improved. Also the game logo has been added with a short animation that I hope you like.
-As I have been asked so much, I have added a diagram showing the different branches of the chapters in chronological order. Remember that there are chapters that change radically according to the decisions you make; a good example is the "Aerated Bread Company" chapter. Remember also that decisions to get to each chapter may depend on decisions made in chapters prior to the chapter where the story forks.
-The "Haking" menu has been changed and is now called "Chapters". The interface has also been changed and now displays a nicer layout with illustrations of key moments and the general interface. Additionally, some bugs have been fixed thanks to Nox Noctis and a new button has been added to go to the menu showing chapter branching. -The "more" menu is now called "Extras" and the layout has been improved. Unnecessary information has been removed and buttons have been simplified. Credit titles are now easier to access and do not generate strange errors.
Corrections:
-Correction of spelling errors: Thanks to Nox Noctis for his great, thorough and really professional help with correcting spelling errors in English. Among others the correction of "Wrong pronouns". Thanks to his great work searching and correcting, plus the help of other players who have also contributed, now the game has improved the quality of its texts. -Correction of several visual bugs that some users were experiencing. -Correction of the images that did not appear on the screen when the scene arrived leaving the previous image on the screen. -Correction of the names and faces that appeared incorrectly in some dialogues. -Correction of texts that appeared in the incorrect language. -Corrections in the results of several puzzles. -Correction of several layout errors in the "superficial character analysis". -Correction of repeated phrases in "superficial character analysis". -Fixed some errors that occurred with a specific combination of decisions.
NEW GAME!
"Create your character and experience a fun story in which you will meet friends, enemies and partners as you try to carry out a vital project with your friends: to create an anime before you finish your studies." [previewyoutube=HWz4HpYYsMo;leftthumb][/previewyoutube] I'm very excited to announce this new project I'm working on. From the Streets to the Script - A Carabanchel Story will be a fully animated visual novel that you will love. Visit the Steam or itch.io page to see all the details! This project has been in development at the same time as "The evil furry", but I've decided to stop the development of the latter for the moment as it's a much more commercially risky project, so don't hesitate to subscribe so you don't miss any related news! I hope you like this news and thank you for your time.
Nominations for the Steam Awards 2022 are coming up! Since its release on the 9th of April this year "Dear Althea" has been praised in its reviews for the visuals of the project. If you also liked the 780 illustrations made with special care to show every detail of the story; consider giving the award "Outstanding visual style" to Dear Althea at the Steam Awards 2022!!!! Voting starts on November 24th and there are 11 categories, remember that during the nominations there will be a Steam autumn sale where the game will be 50% off!!!!
There are only a few days to go until the Steam Autumn Sale starts, but I can already tell you that Dear Althea will be 50% off for the duration of the event. It will last from the 22nd to the 29th of November. If you were waiting for a sale to get the game, this is your moment!
Hello, one more day I bring here the summary of the new update of the Dear Althea videogame starting with a new feature I have been working on; you will now be able to save at the beginning of the chapter. This will make it possible to have a save for each chapter making replayability easier. A beta has been opened to test the Linux version at Ithc.io for free. If you try it, please be aware that it is very likely that you will experience some kind of bug or even not be able to start the game. I would appreciate if you could write me comments about your experience with this version. I have started to put the date in the update file so that everyone can easily check which update they have received. [olist]
This is one of the biggest updates there has been and probably will be from Dear Althea. It fixes almost all the bugs and errors that have been detected to date, but there is also a new feature that will greatly speed up replayability. The Haker!!! option has been added to the main menu. From which you can go to any chapter and even change any decision to see the result. It's still in testing phase and it's possible that when you indicate a game from the main menu, it may cause unexpected problems.
That said, here is the list of fixed bugs, most of them detected by @Bahaha:
Small translation errors in English.
Redundancy in some sentences in the English translation.
Bug that caused Faustina to always be inside the library even if Althea didn't invite her in.
Loops that happened when you had a strong argument with Faustina.
Bug in the symbols of the locks in the decision of the chapter "Miss Cressida Delafield Lanington".
Flower circle animation appeared in some moments when it was not supposed to be there.
Some spelling mistakes related to the apostrophe.
The word "ejaculation" has been replaced by other words despite being written by the original author; e.g.:
...setting down his teacup, and casting an eye irrepressibly jovial even while uttering this pensive ejaculation along the emptied bookshelves. (page 54 - Dear Faustina)
...pouring himself a cup of tea, and casting an eye along the empty bookshelves.
Various bugs that made Miss Delafield look as Mr Drake was talking
Some occasional "Spanglish" error in decision making.
Missing phrase from the "good news" chapter
Error that, depending on the choices made, prevented continuing from the women's club party.
Finally, thanks to the work of @Bahaha I can tell you that in order to find your Dear Althea savegames in your Windows you have to:
-Go to the following address (remember to activate the option to see hidden folders):
In this last small update we have corrected errors that happened to some users when making a specific series of decisions. If you have wanted to make a romance with Eliza and you have not been able to do it, possibly you had this error. [olist]
The updated version of the 12th is now available, those who want to enjoy it will have to reinstall the game after reading this text. In addition to the bus fixes described below, several small improvements suggested by users have been added. [olist]
In this new version several minor bugs are fixed, most of them only happened in specific cases. Before looking at the notes I would like to thank those who have reported bugs to me and especially @Bahaha for his detailed comments on itch.io. [olist]
I apologize to those who have suffered bugs while playing Dear Althea, and I am very grateful to all those who have told me about the bugs they have encountered during their game; being only one person, these bugs had gone unnoticed until now. I hope that with this update, the most common bugs that you have reported to me will be fixed or at least less annoying. To enjoy these changes, be sure to re-download the game to get the April 10th version. Before talking about the new features that this new version brings, I have to remind you that, because the game engine is Visual Novel Maker, there are some limitations that prevent me from implementing: auto-save, the game remembering the language settings or the errors produced when you click too fast the right mouse button. That said, here are the notes on this new version: [olist]
Buy Dear Althea now on Steam or Itch.io with -10% of the total (ends 15 April).
Decide Althea's fate in dark Victorian London. Experience the story of an upper class young woman whose family is falling apart along with her future and who is filled with diverse and interesting characters and may find love.
Finally! This morning I have passed the last Steam check to publish the game and I can announce the final date: Dear Althea will be released on April 9th on Steam and Itch.io. [previewyoutube=OJjFPbyFCjg;full][/previewyoutube] Decide Althea's fate in dark Victorian London. About this game
This visual novel, full of decisions and repercussions, is a fun reinterpretation of the novel "Dear Faustina" (1897) by British author Rhoda Broughton. Each chapter is filled with beautiful, high quality artwork that illustrates all the situations and moments you will experience alongside the charismatic characters. The art that you will be able to see has been made with special care in the representation of the British Victorian era as well as taking into account the class difference that is present at all times. The entire video game has 51 chapters that you will only be able to see if you play all the routes and enjoy the nine endings of the video game.Story
In Dear Althea, you play as Althea Vane; a young upper class British woman whose life is turned upside down after the death of her father which causes her family to fall apart along with her future. She will be forced to choose a new future, a place to call home and a group to belong to. To get there she will have to face all sorts of situations in Victorian London, but love and romance will fortunately abound and make her quest more enjoyable.Choices matter
You will find that the choices you make will change the story from the very first chapter, even if they change there will be many of them that will affect the story in the long run. In Dear Althea, your choices can affect not only your fate, but also the fate of other people. They can also change your relationship with other characters and open up new routes of dialogue that will change the dynamics of relationships.Diverse relationships
You don't have to fall in love with anyone or enter into any kind of romantic or sexual relationship in the game, but depending on your choices you can enter into a relationship with up to four characters that fall within the LGBT spectrum, however you don't have to choose just one relationship; you can enter into a variety of polyamorous relationships.Consent
In this video game, consent is discussed and encouraged in all aspects of relationships between characters. In romantic relationships there is no obligation to have sex, and refusing to have sex has no negative repercussions.Characters
There is a great diversity of charismatic characters in "Dear Althea" but there is a clear division between upper class and working class characters. As a protagonist you can decide from the first chapter and throughout the story which group you are more sympathetic to. Defending characters from one class or the other can have repercussions.Puzzles
If puzzles are not your thing you can skip them without missing any important plot points; however, there has been a lot of effort in the creation of the puzzles to make them all diverse. They have been integrated in the best possible way into the storyline as well as being completely set in the era in which the story takes place.Typography
The typography has been created to help people with dyslexia to identify letters more easily. It is based on the typeface that appears in the original 1897 book.Endings
There are a total of nine completely different final chapters, many of which are the result of decisions that took place several chapters earlier.Due to the branching of the story, finishing a single route can cause you to miss even twenty whole chapters that belong to the other routes, so the title invites replayability. Also, as a final surprise, there are some small post-credits scenes that will change depending on the decisions made throughout the story.- OS: Linux Ubuntu
