Tips for New Survivors
Outbreak: Endless Nightmares has a lot of support built-in for most game pads, but it works best with an Xbox game pad. Once your gamepad is connected, you'll notice gamepad button prompts appear and that you'll have virtually full control over the entire game with your game pad. Get that console feeling on PC!
Outbreak: Endless Nightmares supports keyboard, mouse and most gamepads. Even better, you can rebind almost all of the controls in the game across them! The default control scheme tries to give you a great starting point, but you'll want to spend a few minutes prior to your adventure getting everything just right. You can rebind your controls from the Main Menu -> Options -> Controls, or ingame at any time by pressing F1 -> Controls. If you have multiple gamepads, you'll need to select the gamepad you wish to use before trying to rebind its controls - just make sure it's turned on! Please note, there is no mouse look during typical gameplay in Outbreak: Endless Nightmares unless you're using the Tactical Cam (aka Photo Mode). So expect to use your keyboard to turn your character and look upwards or downwards (trust me, you'll see what I mean when you get there, this isn't a classic FPS!). Please note - If you're playing local co-op you must bind controls for the second player. There is not a default control scheme for them in place.
Please see the following guide for setting up Remote Play Together over Steam.
Outbreak: Endless Nightmares offers you multiple game modes, but some of them are better for play after completing the story. You can choose between: Standard Mode - Balanced for a challenging but rewarding adventure. When the game starts, you'll only have your main character's default equipment. Ironman Mode - Same rules as Standard Mode, but if you die - your saved game gets wiped! Randomizer Mode - Item pickups are largely disabled and every time you enter a new room in an anomaly, your inventory is randomized! Lost Hope Mode - Ironman and Randomizer Mode enabled simulataneously. Easy Mode - Start with an impressive arsenal in your storage cache, along with significant damage resistance.
When you start your game, you'll spawn into the nexus hub world. This is a (relatively) safe location where you can explore, talk to NPCs, find supplies and manage your character's level ups. It's meant to be a safe haven and breather between your ventures into the anomalies (aka dungeons). You'll want to explore thoroughly and use your map - there's plenty of loot to find! As you progress, you'll find Conductor's Coins. When you bring them back to the Nexus, you can talk to the Conductor and hand them over to... well, it. As you redeem more coins, the Nexus will continue to expand and new areas will open. Within these areas are NPCs, shops, loot and more challenging anomalies. Keep an eye out for those coins!
Once you enter an Anomaly, it's down to whatever you brought with yourself and pure luck to survive. Each anomaly is split into different rooms, and as you traverse them you'll find enemies, traps, puzzles, loot and sometimes even some NPCs or shops! You need to manage your equipment and survive. Every 7 rooms, you'll go to Limbo where you can rest, do some inventory management in your storage cache, and pick either to go deeper into the Anomaly or return to the Nexus with all of your loot intact. Just be aware, as you navigate anomalies your storage cache may not always be accessible. So manage your inventory carefully and always bring a way to defend yourself, as well as healing items! Leave some room for some new loot!
Outbreak: Endless Nightmares has a deep loot table, as well as an in-depth crafting system. As you traverse the world, you'll find weapons, ammo and health of varying levels. You'll also find crafting supplies like repair parts, weapon parts, gunpowder and more. A lot of these items can be combined to either dismantle into raw materials, or to build more advanced versions. Have a snazzy magnum and need to take it to the next level? Combine with weapon parts to boost it's damage and fire rate! Did your Katana break? Use repair parts to bring it back to life. Need some ammo? Combine gunpowder with your reloading tools to make different types of ammo. There's tons of options ahead of you - but you'll need to discover all the combinations.
As you fight enemies, you'll gain XP (for leveling up) and Essence (essentially cash for shops). Press F1 at any time to see your character stats and level up progress. For shops, you'll find one in the Nexus all the time, and will encounter randomized shops out in the anomalies. Some shops have amazing equipment... others, not so much! It's all a roll of the dice to see what you might get, so save your cash! And make sure to take a trip back to the demon in the courtyard of the nexus. He'll return you to the game setup screen where you can apply perks to your characters that you've unlocked, as well as change a lot of settings!
Last but not least, don't forget - you have multiple views you can play the game in! You can choose from retro fixed camera views, over-the-shoulder, or a first person view. Change your view with C at any time. Also don't forget to check out the Tactical Cam (aka Photo Mode) to freeze the scene and let you fly around to explore and snap some great pics.
Outbreak: Endless Nightmares is designed to play like a survival horror title from the 90's. Archaic mechanics and all. Embrace the jagged edges and fight back against the crushing difficulty. There's plenty for you to explore in this horrifying adventure if you keep at it, so don't give up if you die. Keep fighting, and try to survive!

Outbreak: Endless Nightmares Linux Depot [7.26 G]
Outbreak: Endless Nightmares twists the series' survival horror gameplay by adding elements of roguelike gameplay. You'll need to explore, hunt for supplies, uncover clues, and fight your way through each anomaly – each consisting of semi-procedurally generated instances where both the environment, and the undead, are out to kill you!
Immediately after the events of Outbreak: The Nightmare Chronicles, you find yourself trapped within the remains of Arzt Memorial Hospital – the hub to organize your inventory and storage cache, level up your character, or just to take a breather before venturing back out into the chaos. There’s more to discover in the world besides murderous hordes of the undead – find the journals scattered about to learn more about the outbreak and ultimately where to find refuge! Don’t think death can save you – every time you die, you'll awake trapped in this nexus.
Outbreak: Endless Nightmares focuses on extreme replayability by offering multiple character options – each with their own abilities, upgrade paths and more! Each time you venture into the anomaly, it’ll change and become increasingly difficult as you grow in power. You'll need to think carefully about what weapons, healing items, and other supplies you'll bring along. If you're lucky, you may find storage caches that give you access to your expanded inventory, and offer an opportunity to restock. But it's all on you to search your environment for supplies. If you run out ... your fate is sealed!
Lydia's nightmares continue as she faces her greatest fears! Immediately following the events of Outbreak: The Nightmare Chronicles, she and her fellow survivors find themselves trapped in a dilapidated school-turned-hospital during the outbreak. Soon, they discover something worse than the undead is after them ...
They’re experiencing hallucinations and find themselves trapped in an endless loop of horror! They'll need to work together to understand the nature of this anomaly and ultimately find a way to free themselves – or be trapped forever.
- Something Old, Something New: Outbreak’s signature classic survival gameplay mixed with roguelike elements.
- An Expanding World: Explore a massive, semi-procedurally generated world that expands as the game progresses! Talk to NPCs, visit shops, etc.
- Three Camera Angles: Choose a view that works for you – Fixed camera, over the shoulder, or first person.
- Photo Mode: Take beautiful pictures with the camera or use the photo mode to scan or anything dangerous nearby!
- Death Isn’t the End: Death returns you to the hub with most of your inventory intact, experience, and money.
- Semi-Procedurally Generated Dungeons: Revisit anomaly dungeons multiple times to find different traps, enemies, puzzles, challenges – and loot!
- Co-Op: Fight the nightmare with a friend in 2-player Split-Screen Co-Op.
- Character Options: Choose from 6 unique characters, each with their own backstory, stats, and ability loadouts.
- Crafting: Dismantle, repair, and upgrade weapons; build ammo through gunpowder; and combine healing items to create new formulas and more!
- Game Modes: Choose from 5 gameplay modes – Standard, Ironman, Randomizer, Lost Hope, and Easy Mode.
- Uncover the Story: Search through notes and logs to read more from Lydia’s journal and piece together the past and future of the outbreak.
- Late Game Content / New Game+: Face a randomly generated dungeon of extreme danger near the end of the game AND try multiple new game + modes after completing the story.
