Hello there Steam people! The last update has not been that long ago, but these last ~2 weeks I have been gathering my thoughts, reading your comments and of course, I've been in contact with my lawyer. He send the request regarding the files to the state attorney and that was basically the last thing we could do. I read a few of your suggestions and messages regarding this, but I feel like I have to explain how it works here in Germany. The process is simple and yet super annoying. In my case, they confiscated all my hardware ( they mainly wanted my harddrives, but they just take your whole pc ). The next step is to make mirror images of all of my harddrives - This process apparently can take them up to six months to even start ( which looks like to be the case for me right now ). Once they mirrored the harddrives they will basically put everything away again - they don't care about the harddrives anymore and will start working on the mirrorred drives. They basically never touch your hardware again after that. This is the moment where it can take days, weeks or even months until they have looked through all the data for incriminating content. In the middle of February it will be 5 months - so if the current estimate for this shit is true, then it will take another month until my drives are mirrorred. There is NOTHING my lawyer ( or any lawyer in the world ) can do to accelerate this. Yes, the german law enforcement can basically confiscate all your stuff and then take their sweet ass time to look through the data. If you look through the internet it's full of people that were/are affected by this here. Law enforcement is extremely slow and while they can listen to requests your lawyer makes, they can also just decide to ignore them and work how they want. It's annoying, it's unfair and it's basically destroying my life right now. Getting a new lawyer would not change this. But I feel like that's enough bad news regarding this case. The last thing I want is to just wait, twist my thumbs and hope everything works out. I know it will eventually work out and I know I will eventually get all the data back that I need ( I don't care about the hardware, I just care about those files ), but this process can take time. And I don't want to do nothing in that time. I'm not going on a vacation or anything. I want to work and I want to provide content for other people to enjoy. I read a few suggestions here that said I should just start a new project. Tell a different story. And while that is always an option, there were also a few that suggested another Chapter for My New Memories. One that plays in the past. And... That is exactly what I will do. I will work on a prequel for My New Memories that will tell a story about the time before the MC met Anna again, during his college years. Since the game never specified when exactly him and Anna met again during college, I can work with this ( especially since Bethany, mcs mother, mentioned that he had girlfriends before he met Anna ). The plan is that this prequel will also have the My New Memories title since it will feature the same MC and since I have the files for Bethany and Sabrina, I can also show them in the story ( at a younger age, of course ). I thought that this was a really good idea in general because of the amnesia happening in the main game. I know that the MC gets his memories back in Chapter 3, but there is still so much he experienced that I can't really show in the main game. That's when the prequel will come into effect. I can show how the MC acted at a younger age, how he talked to girls and how he got girlfriends before he found the love of his life again. This also means that I can work on something again, that I can keep rendering and improving my skills with telling a nice backstory for you to enjoy. And with the prequel it could mean that you might end up enjoying Chapter 4 even more once I can work on it again, since you will know so much more about the MC. This prequel will be here on Steam and it will be 100% free. I was thinking about adding a supporter DLC that you can buy if you really want, but I'm not set on this yet. The main game will be free though, no matter what. I think I said this a few times but money was never something I had in mind when working on my games. I always wanted to provide a wholesome, funny and emotional experience, nothing else. I appreciate all of you amazing people that want to support me but really, playing the game and leaving a review ( be it positive or negative ) is already amazing support, especially for the prequel. I will have more infos regarding the prequel on the weekend, where I will also show you the characters you will meet in there. The plan for the prequel is to be a full game at the end, with the size of one My New Memories Chapter ( take Chapter 3 playtime as an example ). That's why the roster will be smaller ( 5 girls ), but the fun and emotions will probably be the same. I hope I will be able to tell a story like that, it's the first time I work with a "College Theme", even though college won't really be the main topic of this prequel.
