July 2021 TCC News!
Hello everyone, it's about time that I'll finally show you guys one of the things I've been working on July, and there are even things that I planned on doing in beta 1.8 but were added in this version instead!
Before we get started, reminder that the game will most likely come out in September!, so keep an eye out!
Level Editor Improvements
During June and especially July I was working on the Level Editor, if you don't know the Level Editor in the game let's you create levels however you like! And the goal of this tool is to make it as close to make main-game levels as possible, and I think it's pretty close at doing that.
If you've played the free version of the game, you might've noticed quite a bit of new things, and you would be correct.
When you load the level editor, you'll first notice these "arrows", those are button pages (very creative name) and they let you go through the tools that the Level Editor offers!
Button Pages not only let me add more tools, but they also fixed the problem where I don't have to clump everything together in one bar.
In the second page, the first button is a background changer, it lets you change between backgrounds (just like how you change music).
The second button lets you change the angle direction of the stars at any angles, I had to rewrite star functionality to be able to do to that.
The third button lets you change diamond medal time. And finally, the fourth button lets you publish your level to the Steam Workshop!
Steam Workshop Support
That's right! We're adding Steam Workshop to The Colorful Creature, which is crazy because I wasn't planning on doing it in the first place, nobody asked me to do it in the first place, yet I did it and here I am. If you think I'm lying, just check the workshop itself.
So how does it work? Well before you can publish your level, you have to do the following things:
- Be connected on Steam and have it's API enabled.
- Have the player and the door placed.
- Don't make a change of the level after you've beaten it.
- Have diamond time be higher or the same than the time you completed the level.
- The level has to have a name.
- Cheats must be disabled.
Once you've fulfilled all of these requirements, you're now ready to publish!
Before publishing, you have to read the rules and agree to the Steam Subscriber Agreement (For Legal Reasons).
If you've done everything correctly, your level will be published, and visible within the next minute! Congratulations for contributing in the future of gaming!
Custom Levels Menu
Custom Levels is a way to play your own Local Level Editor levels and your online Workshop levels. You basically click "Play Custom Levels", and you will immediately have a list of levels that you subscribed to and ready to play!
Achievement Menu Overhaul
In July I've overhauled the entire achievements menu, which brought confusion, was hard to work with, and it had tons of issues. So I've changed the entire look by adding a achievement icon, better progress bar, better title and description, and so on!
Thank You!
Well that's all for this month, see ya next month for the early access release of the game!
Make sure you guys wishlist the game on steam!
