Hi all,
There is an interesting GDC speech from Sid Meier about psychology of games:

It's one hour long, but interesting watch overall. Sid mentions a lot about 'winning mentality' of player, i.e. games are expected to be won all the time :-)
It confirms my experiences - the first released version of AOF was hard. Not deadly hard, but it was challenging (something like Deathseeker now). Backslash that followed made us to release a patch with various levels of difficulty and greatly tone down the default difficulty.
I especially loved the last 15 min of video (public questions), when some developer asked about their game where they try to convince player that losing is ok.
Sid's reply: 'bad idea' :-D
Keep it up, just two days till weekend!
